  1. Pigs achieved. Also built a "safe" tunnel that leads directly to the Nether Fortress from the portal spawn (also leads right next to the escape portal someone made) due to an unfortunate... misunderstanding(s) that I had with several zombie pigmen. Unfortunately, said misunderstanding(s) and tunnel building left my already limited time exhausted, so the white horse will have to wait until tomorrow. Cows are overflowing, feel free to take some back to your respective bases... or slaughter a few as needed. Please do not kill off the entire stock as I am not dragging more back from across the world again. Pig breeding has begun.
  2. Cows achieved. One pig has made the trip... will get the second tomorrow. Was going to have a white colored horse added to the mix, but... I was foolish enough to stray from the road and found some surface lava with my face... and the horse's face.... so that'll have to wait until tomorrow as well. Still breeding the horses when I can... and obviously the cows as well, now.
  3. D'aw! Thanks! Playing in vanilla is refreshing in that I don't have much else to focus on other than building. Unlike in the mods I play in where I'm constantly upgrading nuclear reactors and the like. Even still... I don't consider myself that great of a builder. I appreciate the compliment though! @Sastra Is Stallion Charles the Great supposed to be Chuck? The horse you were dragging over? If so, he's alive and well in the pen. Found him in that frozen pond you mentioned also with your stuff.
  4. Thanks to help from Sivri and crew, we now have horses on our side of the world. I've begun breeding them... and aim to grab cows and pigs next. Sorry Sivri for your deaths in the process. I put what items I could find of yours in a chest along the path.
  5. By that argument, Pugilist and Monk should be called black belt and master, but you don't take issue with that? Not that I would care either way as they're both classes/jobs/whatever that punch things in the face. A name is a name... it shouldn't matter enough to make you change the way you play your character.
  6. I'm not really seeing an issue here. Are you upset simply because the name isn't thief? The rogue, mechanics-wise, seems to play pretty much how a thief would/did in every iteration of Final Fantasy that they existed within. The rogue, for all intents and purposes, is a thief. The only difference is in the name. Perhaps the word "thief" has a more criminal connotation to it than "rogue" does, but as a roleplayer... does that matter? Can you not play a rogue and claim to be a thief? Is it truly necessary to have that THF tag on your character sheet? The one point I can agree with, to an extent, is the impact on the cities themselves. That being said, there will still be a rogue's guild... and, short of the in game lore stating otherwise, one can easily roleplay that there is a shadier, seedier underside to the guild that focuses more on criminal activity. TL; DR: It seems you have an issue of semantics when, at least to me, it seems this class is essentially going to play like a thief would, it's just being called a rogue (same as Knight turning into Paladin as you pointed out as well). The guild impact that you worry about may exist, but as roleplayers... there shouldn't be too much issue to work around there, either.
  7. Was it MRP2? I know there was a glitchy GHI part added into MRP with 2. And yes, the book maker was so much fun. TotalRP. Yes. MRP and GHI rolled into one... Amazing book creator.
  8. The only bit I would add is to also look in the linkshells section of this website (link at the top of the page). If you're not already part of a free company or linkshell, they could also help you get into RP. There are a number of different themes between all of them and different sizes at that... I'm sure you can find at least one that might fit what you're aiming for. Plus, getting to know a close knit group of people can be a good step to overcoming that shyness.
  9. I greatly disagree with this. Gridania has a lot of Conjurers, and honestly, the best of the best don't leave the Shroud. They stay with the Fane and serve the Forest, but there is absolutely no reason to believe they would be unable to balance both the needs of the Elementals and healing their own. The bigger issue is that Gridania is defensive by nature, not offensive. They are primarily pacifists and wouldn't seek conflict in the first place if they could at all avoid it. My apologies for not being clear. I was working under the assumption that because they are very defensive in nature, should a war engulf Gridania, it would be on their home turf, so to speak. As such, all of the battles would likely take place somewhere in the Shroud. War is messy, there'd likely be a good amount of collateral damage to the nature itself. As such, it's possible that the longer the war goes on, the more angry the elementals will become... maybe so much so that they would actually consider waking the great one. If this is the case, then it makes sense to me that more and more conjurers would have to be pulled away to commune with the elementals and calm them down. I didn't mean to say or imply that they would have zero conjurers on the front lines as healers, but I would still argue that should the above situation be the case... they would certainly be stretched thin. Granted, I don't even pretend to know the ballpark number or percentage/population that Gridania has of conjurers. So perhaps they would have plenty to spare to cover all elemental threats, actual battlefield healing, and even have a fair number back home drinking tea and waiting for their deployment.
  10. As has been stated, more or less, throughout this thread already, I believe Limsa would come out on top. Gridania has their hands full making sure the forest around them doesn't swallow them whole. They'll be busy using their conjury force to appease the elementals as opposed to healing their lancers and archers. Ul'dah is a literal mess of internal conflict. The misuse of refugees and even "slightly friendly" beastmen (Qiqirn), plus the power struggle within the walls themselves, would be their downfall. Limsa, for a city built around pirates, is actually fairly well put together. They have a few pirate squabbles here and there, but if the admiral were to give free reign to looting and plundering as someone else mentioned in this thread... then I'm sure they'd happily fall in line and join in with the blockade/raids on any ports. So, while Limsa fends off any attempt from Ul'dah (and even Gridania?) to attack by sea with ease, then most likely puts on a blockade to win by attrition... Gridania will likely be too busy making sure the trees don't come to life and trample every living thing in the Shroud. Were Limsa dumb enough to attempt to actually go into the Shroud.... then yeah, they'd likely lose that battle.
  11. Perhaps I'm looking into this a bit too much, but I have to disagree with this statement. It is not anyone's job here to encourage anyone to stay open minded, depending on your definition of open minded. If, by open minded, you mean not going around griefing, or blatantly whispering someone that their rp is "dumb" and so forth and so on... then yes, I agree. To put it simply, explain to them that that is rude and unnecessary... then move on. If, by open minded, you mean accepting all the RP types that exist out there and learning to cope with and intertwine your RP with theirs... then no, I disagree. That borders very closely on (may even push over the line) trying to force people to play your way. Example: (This will be an exaggerated case for a reason) Lets say you RP your character as a vampire. You then approach my character with the stereotypical "blah blah, I vant to suck your blood." It is not your place to attempt to force me to RP with you, should I choose to ignore your character. However, if I am an ass and tell you that your RP is dumb, etc. etc.... then by all means you should call me out and tell me I was rude, then move on. I should not have to accept anyone else's RP simply because they feel their RP is good/right. If you want to RP a Harry Potter fanfic in the middle of Eorzea, more power to you, but don't act surprised if I end up ignoring your emotes. Again, exaggerated examples, but the point still stands. "Encourage" is only a step away from "force"... I'd be careful with how you "encourage" people to be whatever your definition of open minded may be.
  12. When in armour, I actually RP Fio having placed a light wrapping of cloth around his tail and some chainmail over that to prevent it from being hacked off. Is he less acrobatic? A little. But it's better then having to compensate for a hacked off limb that aids in balance. Did you play in 1.x by chance? Miqo'te used to have this thing on the left goin' on: I have no idea why they did away with that. I thought it was a cool little detail. Seeing that immediately makes me think of the ramifications to their abilities. Would that extra weight cause any issue with their balance? Beyond that... another "extension" with plated armor sounds like a fairly decent weapon as well... depending upon several other circumstances (plating, padding, fully covered vs. only top half like it looks like in that picture, etc.). Especially if they do have full control of the movement of the tail as has been discussed in this thread... possible tactical advantage in terms of offensive measures at the expense of balance and speed, perhaps?
  13. For me to say you're wrong would be rather arrogant, to be honest. I simply share what seems to be a fairly logical explanation to a few things with what little we have been given to go by. And I perhaps misspoke (mistyped?). I didn't mean to say that miqo'te are indeed simply humans with ears and a tail... I was more looking at their physical appearance and more simple biological features. In other words, how they would act, barring cultural differences, would likely be very human-like... unlike the meowing, purring, etc. that I have unfortunately seen through out the random RP I've come across. Simple stuff like walking upright, using utensils to eat (messier foods), etc to more complicated things such as speech patterns and the like. I very much agree that there is a level of underlying difference within the miqo'te when comparing them to hyur. Like you said, that superior olfactory sense accounts for something. Perhaps what I was touching on is how much of a difference is there? And therein lies the issue that would likely answer the question of how much control they would have in regards to their tails. Just how different are they underneath the skin? Is it just the smelling and stronger legs? Or is there actually a portion of their brain capable of consciously controlling the movement of their tails? On the note of cat biology, I pray I didn't come off as playing the know-it-all. My "knowledge" simply comes from the amount of time I've spent owning cats in my life (currently own seven ) and the brief google search I did for this thread... and a little bit in the past as well because I was actually curious as to the control of a cat's tail and the meaning behind each movement. So, again, I am by no means the professor of all things cats. As to the suppressing vs. full control thing... I suppose I'm still just hooked on the mental image of a miqo'te quite literally pointing at someone with their tail... or pointing at several people in a crowd in that "You, you, you, you..." scenario I mentioned earlier. I likely also have a deep seated aversion to anything that comes off as "cartoony"... and that mental image really seems silly and cartoony to me. I do apologize if I've misinterpreted what you meant as pointing, but I'll leave you with this little thought... If a miqo'te is able to point as in my mental image of what you're trying to say, how far off are they, then, from simply being able to curl their tails around objects, thereby making them fully prehensile? If they're able to bend and flex their tails with a precise enough point... I can't imagine that grabbing is too far behind. tl;dr: I don't think you're wrong or stupid. In fact, I agree with you on many points. Many of my points may have been "mistyped" as I am known to do. I get good thoughts in my head then just puke on paper/forums when trying to relay said thoughts.
  14. Well to be fair, that's applicable to cats, but miqo'te are fully sentient. It's not out of the realm of believability that a sentient organism could control their limb beyond just instinctive movements. Which is what the second part of my post there covered.
  15. That's . . . really cool. Mostly my line of thought was that if you can wag the tail, curl it, lift it, wave it, then you could do simple actions such as point or what not -- I hadn't actually given thought to the idea that it would actually make biological sense for it not to be controlled. On an intelligent person, the idea of not having control over a limb kinda freaks me out a bit, I will admit. Although I will also say that I didn't imagine it being precise either; pointing in a general sense more than a specific -- so I'm with you on that one (not dextrous as a monkey's tail, but able to make simple motions already shown to be in range -- just controlled rather than automatic). Although, if it isn't able to be controlled then there would be a question of whether or not its movements would be able to be suppressed when the miqo'te feels something -- ie, if my character is annoyed by something, would she not consciously be able to stop it from twitching? Ahahaha, luckily for me social etiquette doesn't much come into play. Half the fun of rping Zhi is getting to showcase that rude, ignorant teenager who thinks she's beholden to no one. edit - ah, and I wouldn't count humans-with-tails in the same league as miqo'te. At the very least we can agree that miqo'te tails are far more mobile and expressive than anything humans have ever had. And that is indeed the part where conjecture comes in. As for what Square has given us, we truly don't have any idea. So we have to look to real life examples to see how it would work. Well, they're human-like to a degree... so humans with tails. We have a tail bone and there are humans out there that have tails (think stubs, not actually full-length miqo'te type tails). Some of them are able to wag it a bit, but that's really about it. Others don't have control at all. So, from the human example we know we can possibly wag a tail if we had it. Then we look to cats, the other "half" of the miqo'te. And, as I stated above, the results of studies have been fairly inconclusive. We do know that cats use it to express emotion (think body language)... again upright and tall when happy, wagging/twitching when pissed, etc. Beyond that, we've yet to see cats do much else with their tails, other than chase it (Yes, owning seven cats myself... I have seen them chase it. And, on that note, a couple of our cats do intentionally hit us with their tail... haven't seen them point yet, though. ) So, even from the cats all we know for sure and have seen is that mirroring of emotions type deal. So the confusion comes from the crossover between the two creatures. How far does the human/hyur brain go to control the tail? Or is the cat side of the brain in "control" of it, leaving it to be nothing more than a visible emotional extension? I think this plays into your question about being able to suppress it. That entirely depends on the unknown amount of control that the miqo'te actually has... how much that "hyur side" of their brain controls it versus the "cat side." In that regard, I would like to think that they are able to consciously control the muscle at the base of their tail to the point of making it stop and put on a "poker face". That being said, I personally feel that would be the extent of their "hyur control" of their tail... being able to wag it and being able to stop the wag. Otherwise, I think every single sentient creature in Eorzea would love to play poker with miqo'te. You'd never lose against a miqo'te with their tail being giant, obvious tells.
  16. If you have control over a body part, why couldn't you use it to point, or hit someone with it? Are you saying that miqo'te don't have full control over their tails? It just seems a bit silly to me, but I guess to each their own. (just to reiterate, no one has really claimed miqo'te tails are prehensile if we're going by the definition of 'able to grasp something' ) I actually had to do some quick google "research" on this. There have been several studies regarding this fact (in regards to cats, that is) and whether or not they have full, conscious control of their tail. Much like their purring, the results have been fairly inconclusive. Many say yes, many say no. Even still, the tails on cats seem to only mirror their emotions. Nice and tall if they're happy, wagging if they're pissed, etc. To my knowledge, we have yet to run into any humans that have tails that also have full (or any) control of them. As such, I can't rightly say to what degree a person would have control of their tail. Is it a series of muscles from base to tip that would allow them to flex and point as you suggest? Or is it simply a muscle at the base that allows them to wag it and perhaps make it stand upright (like a happy cat)? Sure, I am all for a miqo'te being able to "hit" someone with their tail by wagging it, but as far as controlling it to the point where they can literally point to people in a crowd with is, saying "You, you, you, you........" I'm not so sure about that. Even then, if they DID have control of their tail to that degree, it makes me wonder what would be the "proper social" etiquette regarding the use of it. Much like our tongue, we have relatively close to full control of it, but we don't use it to point at people.
  17. As far as I see it, we have two things to truly pull from to be able to stick to lore. The information in writing given to us by Square, and the avatars in the game themselves. Regarding the information from Square, it is said straight out that: "Adaptation to a hunting lifestyle has fashioned them with a keen sense of smell, powerful legs, and a tail which provides them with exceptional balance." This is a direct quote from the character creation screen and has already been mentioned in this thread. It mentions the eyes of Seekers having vertically aligned pupils, while Keepers have longer ears, rounder eyes, more pronounced canines, and longer, skinnier tails. That is all that is stated, to my knowledge, by Square regarding the biology/physiology of miqo'te. So, looking at the in game avatars, the words are more-or-less well represented. Granted, with the help of sliders, ear length, tail length and bushiness, etc. can be changed, but overall everything else is as stated by Square. Seekers have the vertically aligned eyes, Keepers have rounded eyes. I haven't personally looked close enough to check the canine issue, but that's not really a talking point in this thread at the moment. Beyond that, the miqo'te look very human/hyur-like. The have all the same features a hyur has, save for their ears and tails. Going a bit deeper and using the emotes, it seems that the tail and ears merely lend themselves to further solidify the emotion of the miqo'te. as has already been stated in this thread. That being said, nothing that I see would serve as evidence for the tail being able to be used for much more than wagging. Carrying a small amount of weight while still being "upright", maybe. Pointing at people and things, or even being prehensile enough to actually grab and hold onto things... or carry their own weight while hanging from a branch (like cartoon monkeys...) not so much.... So, using the evidence given to us, to be able to stick to the known lore... one would play their miqo'te as being fairly human/hyur-like, with ears and a tail capable of mirroring their emotions, having good sense of balance with powerful legs, and with a powerful sense of smell. Anything else would simply be conjecture on the player's part. That being said, the night vision/day vision points in this thread would be a fairly logical conjecture. Being a little more sensitive to certain smells (good or bad) would be a fairly logical conjecture. Reacting to "cat nip" in a way that would differ from a hyur... eh... probably not. Any other physical differences (like what was oddly enough brought up in this thread)... also probably not.
  18. John slowed his approach as he neared the entryway in the Wench. He was exhausted, worn out from being spread thin across the city with few other employees. It wasn't a complaint, just simple fact. As he entered the Wench, he quickly surveyed the establishment. His eyes stopped on the fiery red mane of his employer, then quickly took in those seated with and near her. Once satisfied, he walked in their direction, his eyes still darting about to take in the rest of the patrons within the Wench. He stood where once the highlander male had stood just moments before. His face showing little emotion, a perfect tool were he to be one of the patrons at the table playing cards. Though his eyes were constantly moving and watching others, they notably stopped on the runner quite often, his jaw muscles flexing from time to time as he stared at her.
  19. Overall, I don't consciously think of any outside sources when creating my characters. There have been a few that I think, "I'd like this guy to be/act like this person." Otherwise, the majority of my characters are "unique" to me. That being said, with the sheer volume of media out there and "unique" characters within each, it's hard to say that any of my characters are truly unique. Anyone that RP's with me may very well think to themselves that my character "is like so-and-so from such-and-such." And, to be honest, that wouldn't bother me as, like I said, there are so many characters already created out there that it's easy to come up with something that's not actually novel at all. To quote a show that I actually can't stand, "Simpsons did it!" On the other hand, I can't really say that my subconscious doesn't play a role, either. I may have chosen for some of my characters to be/act like others without actually consciously realizing it. In fact, not too long ago, one of my RPs apparently drew heavily from a scene in Casino Royale... and I honestly wasn't even thinking of that movie while I wrote it out. It was only pointed out to me later how similar the scene was. Plus, as has already been mentioned, I'm sure each of my characters have a little bit of me in them as well. As much as I roleplay to be something I'm not, I can't fully escape from putting myself into my characters even to the smallest degree...
  20. In regards to race spreading out-ness, copying a snip from my post in your Eorzea as a whole thread. Removing midlanders as they're everywhere... Ul'dah has highlanders (from Ala Mhigo), Dunesfolk, Hellsguard, and Seekers. Limsa has Plainsfolk, Seekers and Sea Wolves. Gridania has Wildwoods and Keepers. Duskwights are technically off on their own. This is from the in game lore itself regarding where each of the races (and their subdivisions) are from. Granted, there are always those "few" that break away from the rest of the pack, so to speak. So, while not common, I wouldn't say it's impossible for a Hellsguard or Keeper to be part of the Yellowjackets. However, as pretty much already stated, you're looking at midlander, sea wolf, or seeker as likely the most common in the ranks.
  21. My wife and I often make "pair characters" as they've been labeled here simply to offer each other that easy IC out when the stalkers arrive. Granted, I've yet to run into any stalkers personally on FFXIV, but my wife apparently has made the hottest character alive as she quite often gets stopped by someone seeking out some sort of romantic RP. I dare say it's gotten to the point of at least once a week. My wife's character is always fully clothed, in a robe most of the time in fact... so it's not like the whole "she's asking for it" argument applies here. She's not walking around in the coliseum gear set, in other words, showing every bit of skin possible. And she's always open to random RP, so if someone stops her, she will actually stand/sit there and RP with them. Then it gets to the point of (paraphrasing) "So, are you single?" To which her character's response is "I'm actually married." The other RPer usually gives an "Oh..." and then awkward silence follows. I, generally, have no problem with my wife RPing romantically with other people. We've just personally had too many experiences similar to the OP where the romance becomes a "real" thing for the other person and we have to call it off. That being said, my wife and I do have other characters that are not romantically involved and/or have very open relationships.
  22. Are you wanting those that RP being part of the Maelstrom to join said LS, or strictly Yellowjackets?
  23. I was going to keep the PM in a PM, but seeing as it's pertinent to this discussion... and I've been passive-aggressively called out for my ruining a city-state comment (Osric ), I figured I might share a slightly deeper look into my personal thought process. However, before I do, I would like to point out that in no way do I feel that any involved are bad RPers. I say this only because in previous threads, it's been the norm to twist words into such accusations. Now then... onto the copy pasta with minor edits... Essentially, the Ul'dah RP is on such a grand scale that, like the wiz has said, people will fall into two categories. The first being those that accept the RP is part of server lore (god... I hate that terminology) and will RP along with it. The second is the group of people that will not accept it, or don't even know about it (as only a fraction of the RP community even uses this website), and as such will run the risk of becoming RP pariahs because they didn't accept what the "in-crowd" states is lore. As for how it frustrates me, I RP with and am known to several of the "top dogs" in that plot. My company RP is a merchant ship. Not even two days ago, Askier came up to Raandal in game and asked for his help in delivering fresh water. Now, this puts me in all sorts of binds. Raandal is deeply fond and protective of Ul'dah. It's his home. Were this to actually have happened, it would only make sense that Raandal would hop on board and help out however he could. If I am to accept his contract, that would mean that I thereby accept that this RP did happen... and now force my company (the crew and couriers of the ship) to also accept said plot. I either have to accept the plot happened and RP out 1 and 2, or RP in game that Askier is absolutely insane and that the water is entirely fine, thereby painting a huge target on myself to become a RP pariah due to the fact that Askier is one of the "in-crowd" in this community. Not accepting the plot also runs the risk of those connected to me, namely my FC, also being painted as pariahs. I, personally, do not accept that the poisoning happened and refuse to RP that it did. At the risk of becoming the RP pariah that I mentioned, I will act as though people mentioning Ul'dah's water being poisoned are insane. It's just large plots like this (and even the bomb one of Askier's prior to this water poisoning) that pigeon hole people into one of the two categories that I mentioned above. With the bomb plot, there were certain things that I didn't care for so I rewrote Raandal out of the Flames and Sultansworn to be able to still RP with the other people and not force them to change their particular views. (Again, not saying it was bad RP. It just wasn't RP that I personally agreed with.) Either you accept it and get to be accepted into the "in-crowd", or you stick to your beliefs and standards... and thereby get shunned and outcast. There are many reasons why I refuse to accept it. The two most salient of those being consent to have a plot forced upon an RPer, and plausibility. If it did happen it would affect far too many RPers without their consent. How many story lines, personal or FC, are now going to be hampered if not all around screwed because of this? On a small scale, as I mentioned before, Ul'dah is important to Raandal, am I now forced to accept that thousands (from what I understand and has been "confirmed" by Askier in the other thread) of people have died in his home town? Just what thousands have died? Politicians? Merchants? Street Urchins? What about any RPers that have stories that somehow tie directly to the water supply? Do they have to accept this poisoning or else risk being shunned and ousted? The plausibility of Jin'li poisoning as much water as he did without being caught earlier is just absolutely insane to me. Even in that thread (and I'm paraphrasing here), they mention that the ones that were supposed to be on the lookout for Jin'li never showed and it was just shrugged off as an "oops". So, because players had scheduling conflicts, the PCs were unable to attend said event and stop the poisoning... which completely ignores the NPC side of things. They tried to cover that with the whole whiskey deal, but even then a guard would have kicked his rear out and told him to pour it in the sands. Nevermind the idea of pouring it into the water supply instead of on the ground to begin with. You don't pour anything into the water/drinking supply of a desert city and just get told not to do it again. Layer that on top of the built in lore from square regarding the war effort(s) that are constantly happening against the Garleans and primals and you're really starting to push boundaries as far as writing server lore (ew, terrible term).
  24. Sounds good. And apparently Shayrei wishes for me to play the part of dealer again... >.> As a side note... pirates never said "Arr!" and "Shiver me timbers!" or any of that other crap. That was all made up speech from Treasure Island. EDIT: And while I understand and appreciate the desire to split the thread as you have, the points mentioned were pertinent to this thread as well. You guys are trying to establish a better RP community in Limsa. To do so, you need to hear opinions on what to do or what not to do. City-wide RP, as it's been labeled, is one of those things that several have asked not to do and they gave their reasons to back it.
