I'm glad someone else feels the same about these posts as I do. I've been hesitant to post simply because the general consensus seemed to be the non-hero character always loses. When this isn't true. Two examples come to mind of the non-heroes winning.

I'll admit that I've seen a lot of what I can only call witch hunts (sorry, but it applies) wherein a person is accused of something fairly awful, and while there is no proof, they are essentially labeled the antichrist, with people exhorting others to publicly shun them, etc. It's one reason why I avoid Tumblr in general (tho I have an account there), and why I tend to look at people who are seriously into Tumblr with a squinty eyes. I know there are many people on Tumblr who are nothing like that, but it's really hard to tell just in general. I actually had this happen to me back in the beginning times of Path of Oschon. Former members apparently felt I treated them unfairly in regards to a number of things and decided to rant about it on their tumblrs... Stating things such as avoid Path of Oschon, the leader Raandal Bennett, his wife Daphine Rysen, etc. etc.... Then a bunch of their tumblr buddies decided to raise their pitchforks and "spread the word". I was called things like masogynistic because I told my wife to "go make me a sammich, woman!" In /fc chat. Even though these members had direct interaction with one of my characters that was a very empowered and strong woman in a position of power. But, you know, playing around with my -wife- in fc chat was a big no no. Apparently I was also making fun of their characters and the like. Very anti-gay (their words), even though I have male and female characters that delve in such activities. Blah blah blah. At the end of the day, it doesn't really bother me because they're faceless names to me that are just looking for a reason to be offended/upset. I have no quantifiable proof that what they did effected our recruitment in one way or another and, honestly, I don't care because the people we DID get into the company were great and many wonderful memories were had. The biggest thing that bothered me, really, was the fact that they never once took the time to talk to me (or my wife) about the issues they had.... that were apparently building up over weeks to months.... and instead opted to write their rant on tumblr. At the end of the day... I moved on. This is still in my mind, not because it bothers me, but because it's ridiculous how, for lack of a better term, silly people can be. Like I said, even with them doing this I still had great times and wonderful memories made with all of the people that did join and interact with our company. Tl;dr: I, and my wife and company, have been the target of one of these "witch hunts". It's easy enough to just shake it off and move on knowing full well that the silly people are only hurting themselves by missing out on the great times I personally had. Edit:

A “game” of sorts. And, as such, not sure which subforum to post it in (mods feel free to move as desired). Also, my apologies ahead of time if another thread like this already exists. As an era comes to and end, I’ve decided to look back on what all has happened since I’ve played this game. Mainly… I look at my characters and think of what all they’ve been through and how they’ve developed. Then I decided to go ahead and make this thread as a sort of good bye to both the game and the RPC. As such, here it is… Look at your list of characters (assuming you have more than one, but feel free to post if you have only one). Briefly talk about how they started and where they’ve gone. In other words, what you had planned for them when they were simply a concept in your mind to how they ended up developing up to this date. For instance: John Boy was originally conceptualized to be a grunt in the Brass Blades. The plan was to join up with other Brass Blade players and RP being a “cop”, so to speak. Due to circumstances in RP, he ended up becoming a mercenary for hire in Coerthas. He ended up actually meeting someone there, falling in love…… etc. Of course, to be fair(and for likely better examples), I’ll start… Raandal Bennett My “main.” I originally conceptualized him as the street rat turned hero type deal. He started out as a midlander, but because I wanted him to look more like a grown man rather than a teenager in armor… I fantasia’d him into a highlander. Growing up on the streets of Ul’dah and eventually earning his keep through battles in the coliseum, Raandal had learned of the value of hard work and tenacity. Through this, he was to likely become a Brass Blade or Sultansworn… or so was the plan. RP was headed that way, but because of reasons I won’t get into, I essentially scrapped the Sultansworn idea and went instead with the adventurer idea. During his adventures, he met Daphine (planned with my wife). Over the course of their adventures together, they fell in love. Eventually they decided to form a company together (semi-planned… we had originally wanted to join another company, but meh…)… a company of like-minded adventurers with the goal of aiding Eorzeans. The plan from there was to simply keep him as a plate-wearing adventurer, but as RP would have it… he eventually became more interested in smithing and magitek. Coming to date now, he has all but given up the adventuring life and is focused more on smithing as a trade, with rewritten plans to eventually use magitek (likely MCH) as an enhancement in his battling. Mialyre Vance Probably the character that deviated the most from my original plans than any other on my list. She was originally just meant as a filler character for a company RP plot. Eventually, she took on her own life, became a full-fledged member of the company… and almost became my “main” for a period. Her story was a woman that was the “first mate” of a merchant vessel. That was it. That was pretty much the majority of my plan with her. As time went on, she became a Maelstrom officer… the captain of said merchant ship… a lead investigator, so to speak, in regards to a crime ring in Limsa… scorned and all but banished from Limsa as a result of the investigation into said crime ring… and now resides in Gridania with her lover, helping to stem the tide of poachers there. Kedi’ra Rehk The character that never got a chance to reach full potential. This little keeper of mine was planned to be something bigger and darker from the beginning of his conception… have something hidden away that not even those closest to me (namely my wife) would know about. There would be hints here and there in RP, but even those wouldn’t be overly obvious. Unfortunately, due to various issues, his story never really came to light other than just between my wife and I. As such, I look upon this character with a hint of sadness because of the grand ideas I had for him… but never had the opportunity to bring to life, fully. Otherwise, this character pretty much stayed on track for what I had planned. Johnathan Winters A midlander that was meant to simply be a hit man hired to kill Lady Grace. I had planned on him either attempting to pull off the hit, or being paid off by Lady Grace and taken on as one of her employees. The latter is what happened. From there, I planned on him remaining as a “muscle” under Lady Grace’s employ, but as RP plots would have it, he grew into a little more of an interesting character. He had a key, albeit small, role in a major company plot, then eventually simply became an alt after that plot finished. For the most part, John developed as I had planned… but as the character grew he took on a new life that I didn’t expect. C’laksi Vehnik A seeker that was created to simply be a companion in Lady Grace’s ring… just as an alt character for when I was bored with my others. She was meant to be my bubbly and fun character and, for the most part, has retained those qualities. However, as John above, she eventually became tangled up in and playing a key, albeit minor, role in the plot mentioned above. As Lady Grace (Andralyn) retired from the companion business, she handed over the reins to C’laksi…. Something I had not really planned at all to happen. From there, she’s more or less become an alt that I would hop onto from time to time when I was bored and decided to walk around Limsa in search of any random RP. Banza Mananza A plainsfolk who was made simply as a joke. I didn’t really have any plans for this little guy… however, I did use him from time to time in just random RP. No plans, no expectations… honestly he’s only really been played twice or three times… so not much to say. Raging Tower A hellsguard that I had created as a place holder for a plot that never took off. I’ve not even played him past the point of the “tutorial” quest. He had potential, but due to reasons (much the same as Kedi’ra above)… he never had a chance to come to life. Big plans, never had a chance to play him really… so not much has changed, I guess. Y’reha Tia (deleted) The main antagonist of a company plot. Has since been killed and, as such, deleted. I played him long enough to be able to travel between the cities, then simply did the RP with him as needed. As he was created for a very specific role in a company plot, he pretty much developed as planned. So... what about you guys?

Honestly I don't see what the big deal is either way. Unless SE pulls a 180 and makes this game even remotely challenging outside of coil, i would contend that AF gear and your plain old relic will be enough to get you by in the expansion. All of which will likely be quickly replaced by quest rewards and dungeon drops.

This linkshell certainly still exists! However, I feel I must be fair and admit that, at least during the times I am personally on, it is not overly active (yet!). There are occasional gatherings to run WoD/ST/LotA and experts, with an extreme or two tossed in, but it's not as active was originally envisioned. That being said, I'll happily invite any interested parties ASAP should the interest still indeed be there. Perhaps with a larger population (and need) within the shell, more activity will happen!

With all of the RPG fans on this site, I'm somewhat surprised there haven't been any Xenogears/saga mechs used yet. Unless, of course, I missed the rule that says they're not allowed.

Garuda Hard. Farming zeta "lights". Right as the little force field around us drops, a bard goes balls to the wall on dps and pulls Garuda, followed soon by the ninja and another bard. I decide that I'm not even going to bother picking up threat. I sit back by the healers for a few seconds before finally stepping in and doing my riot blade combo. The other tank doesn't seem to keen on tanking either. We wipe. Next attempt, the same thing happens. [7:54](NINJA) ... [7:54]Garuda: Heehee HAHA hahaha HEEHEE haha HEEEEEE!!! [7:54](BARD) would on of the tank please tank [7:55]Countless feathers rain from the sky. [7:55](BARD) one of [7:55](Other tank) I was thinking mr geared [7:55](Other tank) but apparently he doesn't wanna [7:55](Raandal Bennett) I was thinking the dps that want to pull. I dunno... maybe I'm an ass for thinking dps can wait maybe two or three seconds before firing off their spells, just to let the tank even move from the starting point of the trial and even come close to getting in range of shield lob/tomahawk. Perhaps I'm alone in this thought, though. However, I did get a commendation... so maybe not. -
Tricks or Tips, an FFXIV "secrets" collection

I do this all the time. I try to get all my SCH dots up while in Cleric Stance (along with Shadow Flare), and I immediately reapply dots if I burn a bunch of damage-boosting cooldowns like BFB. As for fairy healing in Cleric Stance, I... don't know? I've never actually compared it. I... guess it would make sense? I need to find out now, since I've been relying mostly on my fairy to do some spot healing while I get my dots up. Just because I didn't see this answered yet. Spells cast snapshot your modified statistics. So casting a DoT in Cleric Stance then swapping out won't lower your damage, and casting a Regen out of Cleric Stance and swapping in won't lower your heal. Conversely, casting a DoT out of Cleric Stance and swapping in will not increase its damage, and casting a Regen in Cleric Stance and swapping out will give you a very pitiable heal. For the Fairy. The Fairy works off your non-modified statistics. So casting the fairy in or out of Cleric Stance, and using Embrace in or out of Cleric Stance will not matter. Theoretically, this also means that if you summon a Fairy while you were Virus'd in PvP, the fairy would still heal the same. "Snapshot". A very apt word for it and one I'm glad someone was able to come up with. -
Would you mind explaining Hunts to me?
Enteris replied to Branson Thorne's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Those parties are generally going after the A and S ranks. Rare hunts that spawn in each zone and give rewards to those that kill them without having to be a mark from the grand companies. Edit: Kage beat me to it. -
Reporting the thread. On topic... In terms of elitism in roleplay, I question if the definition really has to include thinking yourself better than another. For example, in my own roleplay, there are certain things I expect out of those around me (sticking to the lore in general, no god moding, etc.) that if they don't exhibit in their roleplay, I get discouraged and discontinue my roleplay with them. For those roleplayers out there that go way out in left field (Harry Potter in Eorzea, daughter of the Sultana, or even just bending the lore a biiiiit too much) I tend to stay away from them as best I can... not because I think my roleplay or roleplaying ability is better than theirs, but simply the styles and desires are different and wouldn't mesh. Were I in to Harry Potter or any of the other listed things, I would roleplay with said players and they could very well be stellar roleplayers. My PvE views align greatly with yours. I'd have to agree pretty much through out with what you said.

Tricks or Tips, an FFXIV "secrets" collection

The same is true about cleric stance for both WHM and SCH. WHM: throw your regen on the target, THEN go into cleric stance and do your dps.. The regen will benefit from your out of stance cast. This is testable much like the gear thing. Cast out of cleric stance and notice the numbers on the ticks, then cast it while in cleric stance and notice lower numbers. I -believe- the same holds true for the fairies (if summoned while not in cleric stance their heals will act as though you're not), but I could be wrong. This holds true for DPS as well, hit those dots while BFB is up to see bigger results... even if BFB falls off before the dot does. The dot will still tick for BFB damage (and whatever other cooldown you had on when you hit the dot). Granted, I haven't seriously healed (or DPS'ed) in a loooong time, so this all could've been changed in a patch. -

Good to know I'm not the only one experiencing these issues on Garuda. I've given up hope for the speed runs I grew used to when farming light and instead opt to always tank the adds, now. I'd rather spend the extra minute (if that) killing off the adds instead of wiping and having to redo the whole fight. Also, general statement about people who claim they know the dungeons, but then die to avoidable mechanics (read: first boss in AK hard... go go face laser). Edit to second this: -
Yes! This! I can't get anywhere because by the time I log in after work, the GS is practically inaccessable so I just tool around doing my leveling and just grumble "Sweet patch, bro." Just treat it like the character creation restrictions. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes in the morning. Log in, do the quest (that takes maybe 5 tops... but the extra 10 is there to account for lag) to unlock everything, then log out in the Saucer. When you log back in after work, you'll still be in the Saucer and able to do whatever (like buy a new mini-cactpot ticket). Just don't expect to be able to teleport back to it until in the early morning again should you leave. Or, you could do like I need to and just take this weekend to beat the piles and piles of console games that have yet to be beaten. Oddly enough, I've started a "marathon" of sorts with all of the Final Fantasies... my wife asked me to start with 7 instead of 1 >.<... and I've actually gotten up to the Golden Saucer in it just now... heh...

"Abusing" that plus rule on the King has gained me close to 10k MGP, 6 Godbert cards (>.<), yet no Bahamuts. The only thing I did was buy a bronze set thingy from the vendor, which turned out to be a behemoth card. My deck is now behemoth, mandragora, couerl, bomb, cactaur. I don't -always- win, but I win far more than I lose and have a net gain. It's more recognizing patterns and reacting to them. He's going to play there with that card? Ok, I'll play here and the next turn he'll do this... Again, doesn't work 100% of the time, but the net gain is there... and the chance at the Bahamut card.

Also added another member with invite privileges to the main post.

We are indeed still around and accept all levels. While the "main" purpose of this linkshell was to get us non-static people into coil, it was also made as a way for those still leveling, needing relics, or other non-end game PvE stuff done. If I see you guys on, I'll toss out invites.

A really cool look at what can be achieved with Archery *Resource*

Not to be "that guy," but another tidbit to consider. http://www.skeptic.com/insight/pulling-a-fast-one-video-critique-of-a-viral-speed-archery-video/ What you subscribe to is up to you (general), I suppose. -

I played XI and enjoyed it. However, I don't want to submit myself or anyone else to that hell again. "Don't have a particular piece of gear? Pfft, get the hell out of my party!" Yeah, no thanks. -
You left out Lalafell strength. Edit: he edited it in.

Polyamorous Primal Fighters and the Azure Dragoons who love them. Don't forget city-wide plots and anything miqo'te while also discussing the benefits of ERP. Also, aether/echo/blessing/WoL. But yes, grats.

As sad as I am to admit it, there are times where I'm much lazier in RP than others, and times where I'm just more inspired. I don't RP a miqo'te currently, but even as just a short, fat kid, there are times when I'm much more explicit with Kino's mannerisms in /em than others, so it's definitely not something I'd begrudge a miqo'te player for leaving out. I imagine it'd get tiring re-iterating and re-establishing "yes, I am a miqo'te" all the time, and, to be honest, there's a chance it'd be just as tiring to read. So many things to respond to... where to begin? Well first, tossing this in for relevance: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=7880 But as was stated above, I believe it would get tiring on both ends to read and type that the ears and tail twitch as the miqo'te grins, their fangs showing slightly before ............ It's an unneeded redundancy. By all means, throw it in if/when you can, but don't feel obligated to do so. I think it's a bad move to call someone out on their RP style and capability for not adding in subtle movements of ears and tails. It shows, to me, that you are more focused on superficial things rather than the actual RP/story/events going on. As was stated above, you can see that the character is a miqo'te. And unless the player says otherwise, I'm pretty sure people won't mind you assuming that they are actually ICly a miqo'te... complete with ear and tail movements. On the topic of smelling... what exactly do you expect someone to do? Meta game and say your character didn't wipe correctly so they smell of feces? Meta game and say that your character must've taken three steps through a field of lilacs? I mean, short of there being an actual reason to state that something smells... this can really fall under that "assume it's happening" category. As to the miqo'te whoring bit... it's hard to deny when there is in-game evidence of such behavior (can't remember what thread the screenshots were in). Or, at least, those miqo'te hovering all over La Noscea sure do make it seem like a fairly common thing in lore with how very playful they are... and it does often seem to be miqo'te moreso than any other race. That being said, I agree that it would be refreshing to see more tribal affiliated miqo'te, or at least those that do ICly make mention of their relation to a tribe. And that's coming from a player with a seeker miqo'te that has pretty much been handed the reins of a brothel. And a player with a keeper miqo'te that is very much rooted in his "traditional" ways to the best of my understanding and ability with our very limited lore. As to the time of day deal... I've run into very few miqo'te (that aren't mew mew neko neko =^.^= chan kawaii types) that actually don't make mention of this. The large majority of them have made known some sort of preference as to their respective celestial being... so I can't really comment on that particular deal to any extent. Unless, of course your issue is the whole in-game clock vs real life clock and who is right... it'd be hard to get any RP done for ANY race if we were to make our characters go to bed at a "realistic" (read: when the sun goes down for the majority of the races) time. We'd have maybe forty minutes tops of RP before our characters would yawn and pretty much immediately nod off...

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Enteris replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I definitely dont expect dps to wait for a full combo or anything but at least letting me even see the second group on my screen before you (general) open up with blood for blood and every other cool down up and throwing everything you got at the mob. Some pulls have space between them... such as the first and second pulls in sunken temple hard. I'm glad you're (general) able to fully dps while moving... I'm not sitting around and getting beat on by the mobs until I have both groups aggroed. You (general) can wait that extra 10 or so seconds. -

Enteris replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
This has been mentioned before iirc, but... Those bards that think Shield Lob is sufficient threat to be able to just go ape shit on the mob as I'm still moving to grab the second (and sometimes third) group for the AoE fun.... -
Well, not that I was entirely integral to said plot, but when this happened to first time around, Shayrei(Andralyn) wanted to continue to have fun, much like Aya said. Sitting around and waiting for the plot at that time to happen wasn't fun... so she took it into her own hands and finished it out herself (with help from company members and the like). It's nothing against Zhavi, or anyone in such a position. As Warren mentioned, I'm not sure anyone doesn't miss her. She's a stellar RP'er and community member. However, sometimes you gotta be selfish and move on. Perhaps put that particular plot on hold unless, like in Andralyn's case, it's far too important to your character. Hopefully I was as clear as mud. :dazed:
