The majority of the players reside in the US. We are making a comparison to something we are familiar with. When the majority of players reside in YOUR country, then you will have the right to make a comparison to something YOU are familiar with. Those of us who have RP'd Paladins in the past and understand the term and archetype know full well how to equate the class and job. People who never have can benefit from a real world example to base themselves off of. Whether or not it is a geologically 'encompassing' comparison is irrelevant.

[split] Cynel1's questions about Sultansworn RP and RP in general
Coatleque replied to Cynel1's topic in Character Workshop
It's not so much of a job you're getting into, but how you want your character to be associated in RP. If he is joining the Sultansworn and standing around wearing the armor, calling himself the elite of Ul'dah, then other people are going to expect him to act like a Knight would. -
Berrod... If somebody asks you if you are God'dahn, you say YES.

[OPEN] Kali Kalrath, Lalafell on the Path
Coatleque replied to Steel Wolf's topic in Town Square (IC)
Coatleque was standing quietly at the market stall performing one of her typical under-cover inspections. The stall's owner merely rolled his eyes and stood with arms crossed as she slowly perused over the various vegetables on display. She was looking for a particular type of mushroom today which was illegal to import yet had started to become popular among the refugees. A hallucinogen which carried risk of aneurism if too great a quantity were ingested. She paid no attention to the Lalafell talking to himself behind her until he was right up to her side waving some magic wand with a linkpearl precariously tied to the end of it towards her. Her concentration broken now she leaned up from the stall and half turned in his direction. "A-apologies. Are you speaking to me?" Looking around and seeing nobody else at this particular stall she made her own deduction. "Oh... erm... What I like most about the city? I would say the myriad of interesting people I tend to meet on the streets. It seems I cannot go a day without running into someone who feels the need to divulge their life's history in one breath. I would ask you the same question, sir, but I have the feeling you are not here looking for conversation." -
Having read Sounsyy's post there and noting the number of Ascians, could it be entirely feasible to assume the Ascians are to Zodiark what the Twelve are to Hydaelyn? Pure conjecture of course. But 12 is typically associated with good things, while 13 with bad. And if you were to ascribe all of those same facts and theories to the Twelve but paint them in a positive light, it could work.

Only the OP can change the thread title and first post. -
Think of Sultanate as you would Dynasty. China was ruled by a Dynasty. The Dynasty ruled over all of China. Thanalan is ruled by a Sultanate.
-
And also the Ul'dah starting MSQ line. You help the Sworn go after a thief who stole the royal crown. At one point Papashan shows up with an entire company of Sworn to help you fight the Ascian's thugs.

That would be all well and good except we see them clearly in-game along certain quest lines doing much more than just standing around for show.

[split] Cynel1's questions about Sultansworn RP and RP in general
Coatleque replied to Cynel1's topic in Character Workshop
A perfectly valid assumption. Just because the Order is actively recruiting doesn't mean they would just take anyone off the streets of course. I would imagine previous martial training is a plus, and also some kind of psyche evaluation, stress test, and background check to make sure you're not going to backstab the Monarch you're supposed to protect. All of that bureaucratic stuff is just hand-waved as an assumption for RP sake though. -
Personally, I would put that plot on hold until they come back (if ever). For this reason I try to spread my RP around as much as I can so I'm not locked to one specific person. Like going to work with the flu. If you have it, might as well share it! (kidding, of course) You can also take an example from life. I have some old high-school friends that I still keep in contact with. I haven't seen them in over a year now. That does not diminish the fun times we've had in the past does it? My life isn't perpetually on hold until I get a call from them saying "Hey, let's do dinner!"

I'm not at my home PC, so I'm not sure of the exact location, but... If your download hasn't even started yet, you may want to try clearing the download cache for the entire client. Patch files are stored (by default) in your C:\User\\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\ It could be that the file was corrupted. I forget the exact name of . It is something obvious though, like downloads, or client patches. Just delete everything in THAT folder, then restart the client. It will start downloading the most recent patch from fresh.

Always a line I've tried to impress on others. But just seeing that the Sworn do have the power means someone could legitimately play 'bad cop' if they wanted. Not that any Paladin *cough* would want to.

To discuss what the word itself means? I'm confused here. The latest quests leave me with this 'Illuminati' vibe though. Have to be careful not to fall into that line of thinking. Captain Phillis may be one of the , but that is a separate position from being Sultansworn. She merely used her powers as an officer to further her own goals. This at least shows us that they are still just people. We can all relax a little more in our own RP plots where the Sworn are involved. Just don't expect Crofte to be any less Paladin-y than before!

Below is some dialogue taken out of the latest content. I have hidden anything that could be considered "spoilers" and left only relevant lore to draw from. Points to be made below. What can we draw from this then to enhance our own understanding of the Sultansworn? It looks like most of our assumptions have been correct to date with the following additions: A) Sultansworn actively recruit. They do not begin training from a young age. Anyone could join so long as they show martial prowess, and bear no hate against the Sultana B & H) There are ranks. Or at least, there are multiple Captains. We now have another confirmed "Captain" other than Jenlyns, and she referred to herself as a "high-ranking officer" which means we can deduce there is an overall ranking system like the Flames or Blades might have. D, E, I) The Sultansworn are tasked with the defense of the Sultanate. They have the power to do whatever is necessary to see to that very task. They take on their own investigations without prior approval from the Sultana herself. And just like the FBI or Secret Service, they do not need to share the reasons of doing so with the general public. C) The Sultansworn are well-funded. It can be assumed, I believe, that they draw directly from the treasury if necessary and may even have private backers from wealthy royalists. F) The Sultansworn palace guard that you see as NPCs standing around are all wearing the Squire's armor. They can mostly be viewed as new recruits, but are still fully Sultansworn. G) The Sultansworn have the power to enforce the law. Per the Captain's command she declares someone an enemy of the state AND deploys other Sworn to track this person down. Finally, Captain Phillice is wearing the full Gallant armor (even moreso than Jenlyns). I think it is safe to say the Paladin AF armor is the official uniform of Sworn who have moved beyond being Squires. And the fact that they are called Squires also lends credence that the Gallants are in fact Knights.
