  1. While Tiergan uses a regular chocobo - I don't see what the big deal is about using a lot of others. Fat Chocobo is just a morbidly obese chocobo. The idea of taming a coeurl for use as a mount is not really mindblowing. Drakes? Bomb Chariots? Water Lizard mount things? We have quests in game where you befriend different beast tribes and they can give you those things as mounts. If you're turning up your nose at people riding those things because you think they're breaking the lore, you're ironically also just picking and choosing what you feel is 'lore' based upon your own personal feelings as opposed to what is actually in the game as lore. The only mounts I would kind of quirk a brow at are maybe behemoth, Sleipnir, and the primal unicorn ponies, but if you find a fun way to spin it RP wise in a way that's plausible ("It's not actually the real Sleipnir! It's just a horse dressed to resemble it.") - then I will just roll with it. At the end of the day, a couple of people riding mounts that aren't standard yellow chocobos isn't going to shatter all of my RP.
  2. Hyurdemerrin! I remember him! Also, hgngng this makes me want to fiddle with screenshots if I could just take one that doesn't look like butt. :V (I think one of your images isn't linked right though!)
  3. Whether or not they're dragon-people, I am SUPER curious how Ishgardian NPCs are going to react to the Au Ra and whether it'll be with extreme distrust and suspicion or something else. Is Doma in Dravania by any chance?
  4. Thanks to biggening glitch, DodoLady is now even tinier than before. Also, Merri has excellent taste in jackets.
  5. I think if you encounter anyone who tries to guilt trip you as a player into anything you don't want to do - whether it be ERP or Poly related or not - that is the moment where you OOCly tell them you're no longer comfortable RPing with them and block them. People like that are not worth the trouble and they probably have other motives for pursing the RP that they are - not to mention the rampant IC/OOC mixing that will probably happen.
  6. Herp - I forgot to mention. I basically reuse the heck out of names, because I am super awful at naming characters. There is a "Lurial" and a "Tiergan" in nearly every game I play - but they don't often share the same characteristics because I build them based off of the game I'm playing. (Though FFXIV Tiergan and SWTOR Tiergan were both slaves. :V) They generally have different personalities and the only thing that's similar is the name. And maybe the fact that Lurial usually has white hair. :V Leilani Leilai is also based off of my old tarutaru character from FFXI with the same name and roughly the same appearance - but they're not the same person.
  7. People are free to RP whatever makes them happiest. That said, I kind of agree with Faye. If you're RPing in FFXIV, why not make a character that belongs in FFXIV? It's not hard to make a copy of the character you love with similar characteristics, backstory, etc. I also personally feel like if you 100% MUST have character that's traveled from a different world to be happy, it makes a lot of sense for to: 1) Have your character keep it a secret, so no one IC-wise thinks you're crazy and/or tries to exploit them. Why would your world traveler straight up tell people they're from a different world? It's a fast track to having others around you think you've gone mad. Lightning had giant terrifying world-hopping monsters to back up her claims and Shanttoto is... well... she's Shanttoto. It makes much more sense for them to wait until they find people they trust and confide in them. Plus, it could be fun to think up a cover-story for your character on who they are and where they've been. 2) Not have special super powers that are completely impossible for normal folks to have in the land of Eorzea (like spending an hour powering up their chi only to have their hair turn blonde and spikey while they fly through the air.) OR just have them be stuff that everybody around you can easily explain away as magic/technology/etc. This is honestly just to make it easier for folks to accept your dimension-hopper and not see them as a god-moding, OP, mary-sue that shatters immersion with a single Kamehameha.
  8. .... brb going to make placeholder character.
  9. This thread is going in circles, with people bringing up the exact same points over and over again while also bringing with them the same hostile attitude towards each other. I don't think we have discussed anything new in the last dozen pages. It's just been a back and forth of people being rude to each other. If you guys can't talk about things like adults and can't get across your points without being harsh with each other, maybe now is the time to step away from the thread. Or it could hopefully just get locked. At this point, I feel like nothing good is coming from it.
  10. I took a liiiiiiiittle too many pictures of Zaius and I with the Chocobo Size Glitch. :V
  11. I may or may not fantasia my elezen into a dude Au Ra. :V My only problem is deciding whether I want him to be the DRK or Tiergan. (Hgngn, I wasn't even interested in DRK until I saw the video footage. AUgh.)
  12. Let's do this Sheets are free. Oh my god. Cat burritos.
  13. 1) Spray bottle. 2) Lots of practice letting your cat get near the door and then pushing him away with a meaningful ">:C NOH." (I kind of just gently push him back with my foot) 3) Repetition. 4) Giving your cat a meaningful death glare + "NOH! >:C" when he even kind of sort of looks at the door in a way that implies "I'ma dart outta that shit yeaaaa!" 5) Giving your cat meaningful death glare + "NOH! >:C" pushing-him-back from door as you prepare to use door. Unsure if this will help your cat as cats have super different personalities, but it works for mine. (Sometimes :V)
  14. Can we just... agree to disagree? This is an absurd amount of heat over an imaginary fantasy race. It's okay for people to like the Au Ra and it's okay for people to not fancy them so much. If you feel very strongly either way, you can also talk about it without sounding like you think the person with the opposite opinion is an idiot. Also, you could probably just e-mail SE about it as they're the ones who can actually do something about it either way. Vent out all of your love/hate in an e-mail, and then come back here to talk like good people about a game we all enjoy playing and having fun times over. [EDIT: I should add Zyrusticae - even if you feel someone is being a huge turd, don't use it as an excuse to sink down into the mud too. It just makes this thread that much more combative and unpleasent. REMEMBER GUYS. FANTASY RACE. FUN TIMES. AN MMO WE ALL PLAY FOR ENJOYMENT. It's not really worth this much anger over.]
  15. Well, this was a thread that (appeared to be anyway) sniping at male characters for looking too pretty/girly/not-stereotypically male. (At least until the OP tried to clarify that it was actually about all of them looking way too similar and not having enough variety.) I feel like anyone who was complaining about forced gender roles/sexuality in the Au Ra thread and then came here to talk about how male characters don't have to look like broad shouldered, square-jaw'd macho men to be considered men are being consistent in what they're debating about. Besides, I feel like it's okay for people to like/appreciate/lustforhue certain figures as long as we also keep pushing for diversity in character types. Everyone's human, they're going to like what they like and I don't think there is any shame in liking things - but there is shame in trying to have all the ladies or all the men in video games be sexualised fanservice material with no greater diversity and options for folks who just don't want that kind of thing. I could tell you horror stories of working in the gaming industry and being told at one point while working on a game that they want me to strip off all the clothes and armor from all the women in the game and not give them weapons because it might make them too aggressive/intimidating (because no guy wants to fap to a lady who could possibly shank them for getting too close.).
  16. oh god daddy yes I did not know this man was in the game. I will be a shallow asshole and possibly try to buy the game just for him. <__________< yaaaaaaas Educate yourself, child. Is it me, or is he basically a highlander? He even has one of the highlander hairstyles maybe? :V
  17. oh god daddy yes I did not know this man was in the game. I will be a shallow asshole and possibly try to buy the game just for him. <__________< yaaaaaaas ...So you mean to tell me that THIS CHARACTER couldn't be described as a "pretty boy" or "emo-looking"? In fact, he kind of just looks like an extra-oriental Noctis. Sasuke-esque, even. Just sayin'. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Let's not forget the whole bleeding broodily thing the character is doing while bandages waft through the air around him. And the fact that the art is actually by feimo who paints almost nothing except super pretty final fantasy-esque men. You picked a really hilariously hypocritical avatar to go with your topic. Additionally, your posts would have gone over so much better if you didn't straight up insult folks (Clover specifically) who were trying to have a simple debate with you. Clover was extremely polite - far more than I would have been with you - and it would have been good of you to respond in kind even if you completely disagree. Or, as Faolan put it: [video=youtube]
  18. Just to come into this conversation: I think this is what Clover was talking about. all those thing are considered... pretty normal in Japan and not at all a clue as to whether something or someone is feminine. Asian bodies tend to be hairless, gelled hair is normal because Asian hair is textured in such a way that makes those styles easier (jealous), fine clothes and lots of jewelry is just part of the Asian aesthetic. I mean... have you seen what yoshi P wears? He's a 40-year old man, but that's the style. It's not weird over there. Hell, one of their big popstars, Ken Hirai, is so "manly" looking they constantly question whether or not he's full Japanese. That guy. (Go look up his song with Namie Amuro "Grotesque" DO IT OMG) She's trying to say it's a different aesthetic is all. ArmachiA kind of nailed it here. And as an Asian, I can promise you that the males in my family could not grow chest or arm hair to save their lives. Some of them have leg hair, but not all of them. Heck - the ladies in my family have never ever had to shave their legs or arms ever. We're a pretty hairless folk. Most, if not all of the men in my family (except for the older generation) have gelled their hair in their youth (around the age of the FFXV cast). They all slowly stopped doing it as they got older and married. A lot of stuff that would get labeled "metrosexual" (like wearing a buttload of jewelery) in the US is normal fashion in Asia. The standard 'look' for Asian guys in Asia (Asian-Americans prefer different stuff) is the slenderer body-type of the FFXV cast. They're basically trying to reflect an ideal version of Japanese youth,
  19. Not at all. I've seen tooooons of fans of the female Au Ra all over the net and on Tumblr. Don't feel discouraged. Just because other folks don't fancy them doesn't mean either of you two should feel bad about liking them or rolling one up. Hell, I'm 90% sure that a massive, massive chunk of the miqo'te population is probably going to fantasia when the expansion hits.
  20. They can stand next to and write things at each other if they ever meet in game. :V Fury would secretly be delighted.
  21. Furious Storm is a massive, jolly 45 year old veteran fighter-roegadyn whose tongue was cut out a while back for reasons he never really gets into. He communicates by carrying around a pad of parchment and writing out messages to people. If they can't read, he communicates by drawing really hilariously bad pictures, because he's not very good at drawing.
  22. Entirely personal thoughts unrelated to the whole lazy vs not-lazy thing: We already have our tougher ladies with the Fem-Roes and the lady Highlanders. Midlander females and ESPECIALLY female miqo'te have the 'cutesy moe girl" market cornered. Instead of having a similar facial aesthetic to miqo'te and midlanders, I was hoping the at least one of the female Au Ra options would look elegant, but still lethal. There's one picture floating around Tumblr that I am liking the feeling of if the models continue to veer in that direction. It has much more noticeable scales/horns, including much more noticeable ones on her face. Her facial features and facial structure feels more like adult proportions than child-ones. From what I can see, there are two clans just like there are with all the other races. I'm really hoping SE decides to make one of the Au Ra clan females more mature and refined with more obvious horns/scales while the other can be more cutesy and child-like to appeal to a wider sense of taste. It'll kind of suck if it's just a color swap.
