On a completely different note: Not sure if it was brought up, but I kinda wonder how Isghardians will feel about Au Ra. (DID THEIR PREDECESSORS LAY WITH DRAGONS?! )

I don't really understand how some people feeling the design could have been better and feels lazy invalidates the opinion of people who love the design and like it as is. It's not discarding opinions, it's merely disagreeing with them. We can disagree and still be cool with one another. I respect that people love the race and I can see why (the ladies are very pretty!) - and I have no problem with people who actively enjoy the Au Ra female look and can't wait to play as one. While I don't love the design, I don't hate it either. I do think they're extremely pretty and look forward to seeing people run around and RP as them - particularly the darker-haired variant I've seen floating around Tumblr. I don't see why anyone would actively refrain from RP with someone playing as a female Au Ra unless they're a huge jerk. (In which case, you're probably not missing out on much by not getting to RP with them.) As a person playing a cat man, I'm basically playing the "fan service race". It's no secret that some people view the miqo'te in a less than positive light. But as long as folks don't: 1) harass folks playing as miqo'te/au ra 2) decide myself and others not worth RPing with because we're playing miqo'te/au ra 3) decide I must be a poor RPer because I decided to go with a cat man or someone else decided to roll a female au ra - I can respect folks for feeling however they do about them, whether or not they agree with me.

So ...you're free to say that you like the design, but everyone else isn't allowed to say they personally feel it's lazy and don't like it? I haven't read most of this thread, so I don't know if anyone was actively trying to silence you for liking them or not - but everyone here's allowed to feel how they want. You are allowed to enjoy them and feel the design isn't lazy. Other people are allowed to feel bothered by the way the males look vs the females. I'm allowed to think the females look boring as all hell. And we're all also allowed to debate with each other in a civil manner about those feelings, even if we disagree. You don't feel the design is lazy, you might even really like and that's fine. I can respect that. Hell, I main a cat boy - I can't exactly sit and say that I am playing a race that is the paragon of originality instead of straight up fan-service material. I also really like the look of the male Au Ra. but let's not use that as an excuse to be flat at rude and call people's opinions 'bullshit'.

My thing is - concept artists are always thinking about silhouette. It's important because you want people to be able to look at a character at a glance and instantly know what they are. A lot of times, some concept artists will even start concepting creatures by drawing out a silhouette first and then designing on top of it. If we made silhouettes of all the different races, most of them would be pretty easily distinguishable ...except maybe miqo'te and midlanders if we cropped off the cat ears and tails. They tried to make up for it by giving them noticeably larger, cat-like eyes, a slightly different facial structure from midders - (or a very different facial structure if you have the older male miqo'te nunh face). If you put a hyur midder and a miqo'te side by side, you can visibly see the differences in their faces. What we've seen of female Au Ra doesn't really do that. The silhouette just reads "female midlander with horns and tail". Their faces just have a few scales tacked on, but overall look like midlanders or like they're trying to squeeze the features in somewhere between midlander and miqo'te. At the end of the day, I'm not really going to lose any sleep over it - but it's very hard to argue that the same level of work in making the male Au Ra unique went into the females too.

It being foreshadowed only makes it even more disappointing. Pretty much this. That SE's laziness was predictable doesn't disqualify dissatisfaction. How does something not suiting your personal tastes = SE being lazy? The size difference doesn't personally bother me, but let's be honest here: I don't even see why Yugiri went out of her way to cover up her face at all when she basically is a midlander woman with horns and a tail. The design is lazy because unlike the male characters which have large horns, more obvious scales, and an overall silhouette that can easily distinguish them from the other races - the female characters straight up look like midlander hyur women with the tiniest possible horns and tail. In some cases, I couldn't distinguish between the horns and their hair. They're that small. It would have been nicer if the females had more going for them to link them to the males. It doesn't have to be size. It could have been horns more similar to what the guys have or just more visible horns instead of ones that practically vanish into the hair. (I haven't played TERA ever, but female Castanics have pretty damn visible horns. It would have been nice to have that.) It could have also been a face shape or facial features that distinguish them more from the midlander hyur. And yes, they could have been a little more toned - not so much where Yugiri would no longer make sense, but she was covering up so much of her body that SE could have easily gotten away with making the women a lot more toned and muscular under there to match the guys instead of making them like midders and miqo'te.

This event has taught me that most of the server is carrying around more gil than I have ever seen in my entire time playing this game x 100.

This. To be fair, the designs are not exactly my favorite either, because the cast looks like slightly tweaked versions of either characters ripped off from other franchises (Hello Sauske!), characters from all their previous games, or are just... pretty bland designs in general. There isn't really a single one that sticks out in my head as memorable looking except Noctis and its because, again, I can't stop thinking of him as Sauske: The FFXV version. I may or may not get it depending on what the combat system/story is like. That said, there is this this extremely messed up implication floating around this thread that 'real men' look a certain way and that we should sneer down our nose at these characters for not looking like 'real men'. In reality, real men can look like a lot of goddamn things. They can be thin and svelte. They can be big and bulkular. They can be fat and stocky. They look like they belong at the army or look like they've spent way more time at the library than the gym. They can also look like goddamn women sometimes, but they're all still dudes. It's okay to have preferences in the type of characters you want to play in games. As some folks may have guessed, I admittedly prefer to play tough, muscular dudes that look like they spent half their lives in a gym (BUT ONLY IF I CAN HAVE EYEBROWS DAMN YOU SE) - especially in MMOs. The FFXV cast doesn't really fit my normal preferences. But, talking like these game characters are too 'pretty' or too lady-like to be 'real guys' kinda takes a shit on all the real-life men that don't fit the stereotypical Alpha Male look and I don't know about you, but I know way more dudes that fit the slenderer body-type of the FFXV cast - than I do guys with the stereotypically manly Alpha Male physique. (Though uh, not the faces because it's tough to look like that without 3 pounds of cosplay make up. :V) Also, having a problem with 'pretty guys' while playing what basically amounts to "pretty-boy-anime-guy-land the MMO" is kind of questionable.

(You guys did great things with that tiny house in the Mist, but man did it ever feel kind of sad that such a big FC was crammed in such a tiny home sometimes.) Hey there, I understand you're unhappy with me, and that's okay. You have a right to those feelings. The advice I'm going to offer is given with all sincerity, respect, and good will - so I hope you'll hear me out. You should know that it's okay if you don't get along with people. Sometimes personalities just clash and it's difficult to mesh with certain folks. Not everyone is going to like everyone else. You'll even encounter people you feel are mean to you. Whether or not they're actually mean depends on perspective and ultimately, doesn't matter - so don't worry about them. It's best not to spend any of your time fixating angrily upon any one individual that has upset you. Instead, put all your focus on the people that treat you well, the people who have been kind to you and offered you friendship. You already have a couple of folks in this thread talking about how they would be sad to see you go and that they have enjoyed RPing with you thus far. Instead of focusing so much of your energy on people who have upset you, invest it all in being showing these people how much you deeply appreciate their time and kindness. RP with them more, chat with them, do the Holiday Event with them, or just do neat things for them -- however you feel is best to show your thanks. We all get angry at people sometimes. I would be lying if I said I've never held a grudge towards anyone. That said, I am a firm believer in that you get what you give. If you spend most of your time fixated on the people that have upset you, perhaps even spending energy railing against them -- then you have put out negativity and will only get increasing negativity in return. You feel bad. They feel bad. Everyone feels bad! On the other hand, if you just avoid the people who have upset you (while being very polite to them if you encounter them!) - and instead invest all your time and energy on the people who have shown you kindness, on showing them how much you appreciate them, you're putting positivity out there and you'll hopefully get positivity back in return. I hope this helps and I hope I didn't come off condescending or rude. I just didn't know how else to word my feelings.
