Small update: If only one person has a 'reacting' gem when near other gem-holders, only their memory-vision thing will transfer to the others. This way, you're not forced to write up a new memory for every single person who wants to meet your character for the first time using the gem as an excuse. Also, I've just started coding boot camp. My time is extremely limited and I'm exhausted. I'm sorry if things don't really progress anywhere, but I thank you for your patience.

Lurial learned how to read/write while studying arcanum (one would think learning to read and write would be pretty important to being an arcanist carrying around a book all the time). Tiergan learned to read and write because one of the privileges he received by being the 'Alpha' slave of his pens was the opportunity to educate himself on whatever he requested. He instantaneously wanted to read and write because he was enamored with the eloquent way an educated Ala Mhigan general once spoke before the city's fall. Leilani knows how to read/write because her father is an archaeologist (and thus has to keep meticulous records of the things he finds) and her mother is a linguist of sorts that is capable of translating and transcribing ancient texts/tablets into Common tongue. Both parents taught their children the skill. Furious Storm knows how to read and write, because I made him able to do so in order to communicate with people ( mute guy running around with a note pad ) only to find out way later that the devs decided most of Eorzea is illiterate. :V So I don't really know how he learned. I just assume that he somehow got someone to teach him once he was made mute. ALL THAT SAID, I kind of can't help but feel like Ferne sort of arbitrarily decided most of Eorzea can't read despite all of the writing that is all over Eorzea. Fortunately, in the same thread where Fernehalwes reveals that literacy rates are low, further down he also mentions that 'No Entry" signs are for adventurers , implying that literacy rates amongst adventurers might higher than normal (possibly because of all the crazy work they're normally doing?). This explains all of the sign posts, road signs (that don't have any other identifying symbols for folks who can't read), building signs, and hunt mark bills that all have writing on them, but would be wasted on the vast majority of the Eorzean populace. Places like Buscarron's Druthers isn't exactly going to get visited by much of anyone except Wailers and other folks living in the wood - yet it still has a big ole sign posted right out front. Perhaps it's purely there for the adventurers.

Steel Wolf. I heart you. Lurial's flirting method - be coy and demure while always just barely laying down the compliments like bread crumbs to a house of sugar and honey. Tiergan's flirting method - be stoic, grumpy, but kind. Then also be completely oblivious to any and all signs that someone is attracted to you until they have to do something akin to mailing you a Neil Gaiman-style letter that says "YOU ARE INVITED TO A SEDUCTION. Please come to this address wearing clothes you would like to be seduced in." in order to get the point.

Honorifics are crazy important in some Asian languages. Not sounding polite/respectful enough when talking to someone can be seen as a small or huge insult depending on how you speak. While dono does mean something akin to 'lord' or 'lady' - it is not any indicator nobility or royalty. It just means that the speaker and the person they are speaking to have the same high rank socially, but the speaker is still trying to be super polite to the person they're addressing. Since Yugiri is leader of the Doman refugees and Alphinaud is one of the quasi-leaders of Scions and eventually becomes the leader of the Crystal Braves -- it makes sense why he would use 'dono' while addressing her. He respects her, but he views himself as on the same level as her. If she were of higher standing socially, Alphie would have had to use 'sama' - otherwise he would have been seen as being a prat for not humbling himself enough in Japanese conversation.

I was always able to create characters at around 6-7AM PST. Is that not the case anymore? Are there just too many characters now?

It really, really grates on me realising that all of these bots are here because even now PEOPLE STILL GODDAMN BUY GIL. >_< I wish people would stop giving these assholes money so we can play in peace.

UPDATE: The first post on this thread has been updated with more information, a complete list of participants, and an FAQ. Additionally, to help give everyone an excuse to RP with one another, your gemstone will now pulse, hum, spark, or do any other strange and unusual reaction (feel free to be zany and creative!) when close to another person carrying a gemstone. It doesn't happen every single time - thus if you RP constantly with someone who also carries a gemstone, you can tailor when it happens so it does not disrupt other RP - but occurs at random without any real indicator of what triggers it. If two gem-holders draw too close when their gems are reacting, each of them will experience a sudden echo of memory and emotion from the other person that is related to their 'Defining Aspect' (the one I asked you to give me ages ago that is central to your character.) For Example: Let's say that Tiergan and Leilani are gem-holders and Tiergan's defining aspect was "Rage" while Leilani's was "Joy". When they encounter each other and draw too close, Tiergan would be hit by a vision of memory/emotions from Leilani that exemplifies Joy ...while Leilani would be hit by a vision of memory/emotions that exemplify Tiergan's Rage. Feel free to peek down at the complete list of participants on the first post. If you see someone you've always wanted to RP with, feel free to give them a poke and ASK them if it would be alright to engage them in RP. If they say yes, awesome! Meet up in-game and have fun with the world's quirkiest ice-breaker in the form of memory-sharing rubies. Please keep in mind that many of these people may be busy, have obligations that prevent them from RPing with every single person, or otherwise may not be able to RP with you. If someone declines or is otherwise unable to RP with you and you act like a twat about it, I will immediately eject you from the story. I had a realisation a while back that a lot of folks signed on to this because they are a lot like me: A little shy and unsure of how to really jump in and RP with new people who are strangers. I am really slow at Rping and have a lot of real life stuff on my plate, so it takes a lot of time for me to reach people. Thus, I had an idea - if you have the free time and the willingness (I understand that not everyone has the time to engage with folks all the time so this is entirely optional) please message me if you would be down for RPing with other random folks associated with this plot. I will be making a small tweak to my story soon that will give folks an excuse to interact with total strangers. Everyone will be able to look at the list of folks who are open to being poked by strangers and be able to have a ready excuse to interact. Perhaps someone on the list is a person you have been wanting to RP with forever, but you never really had the chance until now. If you are extra super duper shy or just generally have trouble hunting down RP for various reasons, you can also mention that in your message "Tier, halp me!" and I will randomly assign you a buddy who also requested help. If you are the TOTAL OPPOSITE of shy and have an easy time winding up balls deep in RP but you would love helping a shy person out, I will match you up with an rper in need as a kind helper. :3

A very good and highly skilled friend of mine is looking for a end-game static to do content with. If you have an opening for a MNK, please let me know! Conversely, he also has WAR at 50 that is not as geared, but knowing him, if there’s an opening that requires a tank role, he will gear the hell out of it very rapidly to fill the role.

During All Saint’s Wake, Tiergan got transmogrified into a puffy white bat. Being the kind of person who is incredibly adverse to magic, he immediately flapped and flailed around in a blind, frantic panic, nearly getting trampled and squished by people who were now several hundred times his size until he crashed smack dab into D’lyhhia. Once he recovered, Tiergan begged her for help in transforming him back, swearing up and down that despite his present state, he was actually a rather powerful miqo’te fighter and could serve as a bodyguard for her if needed. D’lyhhia agreed to assist - even if Dodo was a huge turd about it, and eventually Tiergan was returned back to his original form. Tiergan instantly swore her to secrecy so that no one would ever know of his secret Hallow’s End Shame: Being the cutest, floofiest bat there ever was.

I personally feel that's stretching just how slow news actually travels in Eorzea, but that's just me.

I think Au Ra are unique enough in appearance that they would've created a stir visiting various Eorzean cities for the first time -- otherwise why would Yugiri go out of her way to hide her appearance out of fear of startling the populace?

Why do people think that they have to leave the RPC forums if they're on Gligamesh? o_O I thought this forum was for everybody?

I wonder what leveling a level 1 baby Au Ra will be like in terms of the MSQ? I mean, Yugiri was the very first Au Ra to arrive in our part of Eorzea and she arrives long after the Ultima Weapon was destroyed - I wonder if all the MSQ cutscenes and what not for Au Ra will remain the same as they are for everyone else and thus... kind of be a little weird?
