  1. 1) Leaders mixing IC and OOC. ( I had some of the most creepy and bizarre experiences with this one in WoW.) 2) Don't mind FCs where the IC leader and OOC leader are one in the same, but only if the rest of the entire FC storyline doesn't really revolve entirely around said leader or hinge upon the leader's presence to continue functioning. (AKA, no 'House' RP.) 3) RP/Storyline bottleneck with FC Leadership. If EVERYTHING has to get vetted and ok'd by the leadership before you can run a story or do something RP wise, even if it has nothing to do with the FC story itself - I'm out.
  2. First, I'm going to put up a disclaimer that I think everyone should be able to RP in whatever way that suits them. With that out of the way - I think what people are trying to say is that many of the job quests (with the exception of ones like Paladin, Warrior, Bard) are very much like the Main Scenario Quests. The MSQ plays out like a single player game where your character is the one and only chosen hero of the world. They are the chosen one. The lone figure who is doing all that awesome crazy stuff in the main storyline and is helping save the world. The leaders of all three nations know them by name and consider your character their friend! All of the Scions adore and respect you! You've smashed in the heads of countless primals and personally took down Gaius himself. There might be other warriors of light, but YOU are the main one who is a champion of Eorzea who destroyed the ultima weapon, faced off against the Keeper of the Lake, battled against Lahabrea, etc. Along the same vein, because of the way the White Mage quest is presented, your character is the 'lone and only chosen hero' who ever gets to be a White Mage while no one else save the Padjal get to have that special privilege. While some job quests might simply be one scenario out of many - in the case of the White Mage quest, you literally only got to be a White Mage because some other long dead guy's white mage stone up and specifically, personally selects you to be the first and only non-padjal white mage in ages. This spirit likely did not have multiple white-mage stones just hanging about in the shroud waiting for more adventurers to come around. Just like our characters only have one job stone - he likely only had one job stone to give out as well. Meanwhile, the Elementals are still very much against letting anyone non-padjal learn the art of succor. Thus, just like most people frown upon folks who RP out the MSQ and have their characters talk about how the defeated the ultima weapon, personally faced off against Gaius, etc -- some people also frown upon folks who RP out some of the job quests as though it happened to them (if the job quests made it clear that only one person got to be that job.) It's even worse in the case of Dragoons where there is literally a chosen one - the Azure Dragoon. There is a lot more wiggle room for things like paladins, warriors, and bards where the quests explicitly show many people getting taught a the job skills. (not sure what the monk quest is like, but if it's another "Person is trying to teach a bunch of students the lost art" deal then it can get included here too.) Summoner kind of has wiggle room too because its story quest references that a BUNCH of summoners have been hunted and killed at some point - which means you're definitely not the only one. (Not to mention the enemy you face off against is also a Summoner) All this said -- if you want to RP as though there is a slow revival of all of the job classes happening, I'm pretty sure you'll probably find some people willing to roll with that. Just RP whatever is most fun for you and find others that align with your interests.
  3. Tiergan might have enjoyed watching two Roe-ladies teasing Bryn just a liiiiiiiiiiiiiittle too much. :V Mwahah~!
  4. TIERGAN DID NO ONE TEACH YOU ABOUT PROPER UPKEEP AND MAINTENANCE? YOUR SABATONS ARE GOING TO RUST. D: I-I do what I want! ::quietly buys new sabatons:: ...Is that the cake in my room?
  5. o/ Leilani Leilai would like to join! Mostly so she can marvel over all the other for-realsies bards and learn from them while also trying to compose songs. :>
  6. Could always just have her be Warrior IC while she's paladin OOC unless you really want her to develop in a paladiny-direction!
  7. I'm actually there now on my Turk It's super fun! YOUUUUUUU! I totally saw the suit and quietly wondered if it was a Turk. I was so excited when I was right.
  8. I saw a group of 5 RPing at the Drowning Wench and ran up to them on Leilani for some random RP. \o/ (Mostly by having her squeak things on the sidelines until I was sure I wasn't interrupting something :V) It's really awesome seeing some more life happening over there these days!
  9. Finally got a Riviera Bed! ...Unfortunately I had to redecorate the entire front half of my room just to fit it in there. :V That bed is huge.
  10. ::INCOHERENT NOISES OF EXCITEMENT:: AT LAST, BUTT CAPE. MY TIME HAS COME. ALSO GRYPHONS. I AM SO READY FOR THIS EXPANSION.
  11. Aeon is a fantastic FC full of solid RPers with a leader that works unimaginably hard to create a fun, immersive story for everyone to engage in. Anyone would be lucky to be part of their crew. If you are wondering "Hay Tiergan, why you no with them no more?" - it's because real life is a butt and I was so stressed out by non-game related events that I needed to go somewhere where I could just be a normal member. (Otherwise I would inevitably try to do guild leader things and stress myself out again. :V Knee jerk "I gotta do the thing to take care of my crew" urges.) If you get in, be warned that you might see me sulking around Cliffperch on occasion while also shedding on furniture when I think Bryn isn't watching. o/
  12. This is awesome sounding and I wish I had alts that fit this. ;A; Maybe Leilani could be an unofficial Turk.
  13. F'lhaminn is actually a Fernhawles-confirmed half-breed miqo'te. She has a Sun Seeker name and was brought up as a Sun Seeker, but has obvious Moon Keeper traits (most obvious being the rounded pupils). I'm really, really curious what a Hellsguard/Sea Wolf combo would look like because they're the only race where the skin-tones really don't have any point where they intersect.

    On Age

As someone who sits very firmly in the "Older characters should please stop openly hitting on characters who are clearly minors" camp -- I actually agree with the sentiment that we shouldn't be limiting people's RP, but only to a certain extent. If all the RPers are doing is having their teenaged characters flirt heavily, get wasted, and talk about their proclivities -- they're not doing anything wrong. This is pretty much exactly what some teenagers actually do in real life. If you're RPing with someone and having your character flirt them up only to learn that the other character is a minor? Just have your character NOPE on out of there. You can even play it for laughs, because this kind of thing happens in real life all the time. [EDIT: Good lord, this forum really insists upon making all youtube links or even just URLs into youtube videos. Skip to 1 minute and 22 seconds on this video. ] Making light of the moment as your character backs off can make things feel less icky while also making it clear where your RP boundaries are to folks. For me (as in just my personal opinion) all of this only enters rapid squick territory in two situations: 1) An actual real life minor is ERP'd with by someone who is not a minor or tries to draw someone they know is not a minor into ERP with them. This is actually illegal. People have been investigated/labeled child molesters/gotten in all sorts of trouble for unknowingly engaging in romance-RP with minors. Some members of this community itself even have stories of people they know getting in trouble for it when parents have stumbled upon the romance RP logs of their children. It's no bueno. Don't ERP with someone you're not 100% sure is not a child. (It also saves you the feeling of needing to jump into a hot shower and scrubbing your flesh raw if you later find out you've been doing all this crazy smut RP with a kid.) Some minors don't actually know they can get people in trouble for doing this, so I can forgive them if they just had no idea of the impact -- but any minor that DOES know and tries to draw adults into sexual RP situations with them anyway has basically decided they think getting their rocks off is more important than the possibility that their RP buddy could get labeled a child molester for life if something goes wrong. 2) A character that is a minor propositions (not just idle flirting that probably isn't gonna get anywhere) or is propositioned by a way older character with actual intent to ERP. This is the point people often disagree with me on, and that's fine. Minors doing their thing with minors is totally okay with me. Some people just really like exploring that 'young awkward first love' scenario or exploring the transition of youth to adulthood. On the other hand, fully adult characters doing things with characters who are minors (and might even be like a decade or more older) or continuing to flirt even after the player makes it clear their character is just a kid is very unnerving to me. YMMV, but in my mind you don't really know what kind of person is behind the wheel of the adult character and whether that kind of RP is enabling some very dangerous mindsets. Also a 26 year old character trying to repeatedly get down and dirty with a 15 year old character just makes me recoil super hard in my chair.
  15. The above is why it's super hard for me to RP Lurial 75% of the time, because she's supposed to be super smart and I'm super derp. :V
  16. I bolded the part I feel really nails the fear lot of people might have towards 'overpowered' characters. We've all run into that one roleplayer who was essentially godmoding his or her character as being super strong, super rich, super fast, super skilled at everything - but it's all okay because he or she has flaws too! Like being too nice! Or too trusting! Or too strong for their own good! It kind of leaves you with the sense that they're not roleplaying a character and crafting a decent narrative so much as playing out some wish fufillment fantasies of being popular, rich, skilled, or well-loved by all. Everything has to have balance. Even if you're playing a super strong/skilled/rich/etc character, there should be some reasonable consequences/drawbacks to that power that make them feel more like people than tropes. A lady who is a highly skilled and power soldier from participating in so many wars and battles might be struggling with some serious PTSD. A man who's an incredibly powerful healer capable of mending almost any wound might be completely socially inept from doing almost nothing else but studying conjury and communing with the elementals. There has to be a give and take, because the flaws and conflict they generate is not just fun for you, but for all the folks you interact with.
  17. Man, that's not fair. Its like you skipped past the awkward roleplay puberty phase where you make a series of hilariously awful characters ( A fallen angel gets turned into a vampire and has both angel powers and vampire powers, but also is a master thief with a heart of gold! ) and jumped straight to making normal characters. How will we swap tales of ridiculous badness now?
  18. I only learned about the RP in AOL chatrooms because this girl I was babysitting (who was 9) jumped into them while on my computer and immediately started spamming A/S/L over and over to show me how cool it was. I immediately herded her away from the chatroom going "OH SWEET LORD, DON'T DO THAT." and then went back the next day to try RPing in there. I'm 99% certain my first character was a very small chocobo because my screenname at the time was, in fact, LittleChocobo. :V
  19. I got started in AOL chatrooms. :V Good ole "Rhydin". I was 13 or 14 and my characters were all embarrassingly awful.
  20. Lurial's is named Diamond Whirlwind. o/ Tiergan's might be Final Eclipse until I pick out something less tryhard.
  21. I named my regular chocobo after a friend's GW2 character Baldr that because I have the maturity level of a 12 year old. I waited almost a year for our FFXIV RP to finally present me with an opportunity where I could realistically emote out "Tiergan mounts Baldr." :V I haven't gotten to name my racing bird yet because drowning in work. Not sure when I'll get to log in.
  22. That depends: If Tiergan knew in advance he'd have to stay in my home and he also knew I was the person who created his entire backstory. I'm 1000% certain he'd probably rage at me for the entirety of those days and also maybe might murder me. If he knew in advance he'd have to stay in my home, but he didn't know I was the one who gave him his shitty backstory -- he'd probably be as polite as possible, but also feel slightly awkward because my place is tiny, I'm tiny, and he's not. It might be sort of cramped for him. I would oogle the hell out of him every time I'd think he wasn't looking, but he'd notice and chalk it up to "Weird little Doman has not seen miqo'te before." I would DEFINITELY make him get things down from tall shelves for me. And help me carry around heavy objects. Also open jars. Lots and lots of jars. In fact, I'm pretty sure I would spend a crazy amount of time getting him to help me do all the things that tall people who don't have noodles for arms can do. Tiergan would just put up with it because: I'm giving him a place to stay and going outdoors where he'd possibly cause a traffic accident by being a real life catman would be a terrible idea. I'm so tiny and noodly armed that he'd take pity on my inability to reach tall shelves and open jars of tomato sauce. I'd also do 100% of the cooking because otherwise Tiergan would probably accidentally burn down my apartment building while trying to feed himself.
