1. Hokay, so. At the iBar in the Rio. Tried to order a Vampire's Kiss. Bartender could only approximate. Asks me, "what do we call this? This is new." I reply, "A Duskwight's Kiss." It is now so. A Soliliquy drink now exists in real life! Cheer for our wierd impact Balmung! (Duskwight's Kiss is a Razztini with a top of Champange.)
2. I am here. Can you find me? ;p Super exited to meet and see those who made it! Those who did not? Next time!
3. Update. Update. Update. This stuff shall now start moving forward. Before I get into further details, I want to point out that just because it is moving forward does not mean that it is to late to sign up. It just means that things will start being found out, and doings shall begin a transpiring. Never to late to get on board as the train gets rolling. Yar. So here is how things will proceed from here: I will start sending out PMs to the people signed up today and tomorrow. Individuals we'll get their set ups, and the groups will get rolling. In the case of those working for the Valeneaux, this will mean talking to Zaralette. Groups will get their marching orders and other set up materials, and I shall begin coordinating live events and what have you for the groups. Additionally, it should be noted that each individual (whether they are in a group or not) will be given one tid bit of information that no one else signed up is going to get. This is to encourage RP both inside and outside of the groups. These tid bits are not necessary to put the whole thing together, but will make it easier to grasp more of the whole picture of what is going on. Think of it like a little side quest of RP encouragement. Those signed up, keep your eyes peeled on your PM box. Those not signed up, let me know below if you are jumping on. Time for the fun to being. ^ ^
4. Here are the details on the three pre-assembled groups investigating the Little Ala Mhigo attack. Full hook details can be found in the post located here. The Immortal Flames - They are pretty much calling in and for aid from all Ul'dahn law enforcement they can get. With several of Ul'dah's institutions spread thin of late, the idea is that a task force will be formed under the banner of the Immortal Flames to pool resources. The Immortal Flames are very focused on Ul'dah solving this case on their own. It DID happen in their territory, after all. Still, a Garlean threat of unknown motive IS of concern to the entire Eorzean Alliance, so Ul'dhan government will not be preventing the other GCs from conducting their own investigations. They simply just wish to solve the problem themselves. The Maelstrom - This grand company is simply sending any volunteers they can get to investigate the incident, and how it might impact Limsa Lominsa. In calling for volunteers they are also open to Lominsan law enforcement aiding with their own expertise, if they so wish. The Order of the Twin Adder - Similar to the Maelstrom, they wish to know for themselves what happened and are accepting volunteers from all sources in Gridania. It should be noted that some of the powers that be in the Twin Adder are quite curious as to why it is that the Valleneaux seem interested in conducting their own private investigation, rather than relying on the Twin Adder's results. The Valeneaux - Zaralette Valeneaux has promised a fairly large sum of money to any and all parties willing to investigate this incident for her merchant house. She seems quite saddened and horrified a the plight of these missing youths, and has also offered a very large reward to any adventurer (or group of adventurers) willing to rescue these youths and return them to their families. If you are signing up to be in one of these four groups, please post below. Remember to indicate which group you are signing on to help out/join. Keep in mind, this is not the end all be all of group involvement. If you have your own crew interested in the investigation, please post below or PM me. Thanks for your time. I hope people have fun and get some neat RP out of this. ^ ^ (Note - Edited post to include who is signing on for what groupy thing.) Immortal Flames - Osric Melkire, Tiergan Vashir, Anelia Sadowyn, Jana Ridah, Kane Denrys Maelstrom - Sousnyy Mirke Twin Adder - Chiane N'Ardente, Kiht Jakkya Valeneaux - Edward Calloway Independent - Taiga Jakkya (New Note - Please see update reply thing in this thread. ^ ^)
5. "This time you've gone to far. This time you've gone to far. This time you've gone to far. I told ya. I told ya. I told ya. I told ya." - Peter Gabriel, Digging in the Dirt The Hook - Little Ala Mhigo has just been raided, and in the wake of the attack fifteen youths are now missing from the camp. These are youths are assumed to have been targets of the raid. The culprits? A small squad of Garlean soldiers. The attack came at night during a sandstorm with the bulk of the camp's defenses being subjected to an airborne drug. The drug apparently caused the defenders to either fall asleep, or be easily slept by the Signifiers present in the Garlean assault team. The entire raid took only minutes, and there are only four reported casualties (in the form of blackened skeletons) that have yet to be fully identified. There is presently no clear story on how the Garleans extracted themselves, or the youths through the sandstorm. There is also no clear motive for why these fifteen youths were taken from the camp. Several groups have pledged to investigate the situation fully. Most notably the Grand Companies, and Valeneaux (a Duskwight Merchant House that had long been providing aid to the Ala Mhigan refugees in the camp). The Process - This is a plot hook. A jumping in point for any interested party, and it serves as the start of a much larger plot. As the plot moves forward more layers of onion shall be peeled away. So, this starts with a simple investigation into the incident. All are welcome to jump in and enjoy the plot. There will be small groups formed based on a few affiliations, but these are not the end all be all of how one can be involved. They simply serve as hooks for people to gather together and RP through the plot based on those affiliations. A cross post will be made in the connections area of the forum for people to sign up to be part of those groups. Investigation and plot cookies shall be done in a blue booking process. Consider the hook above to be what is generally known IC about the event. Ask questions and do investigation based on that information. For any and all groups I will make time to do some live back and forth investigation things, either over skype or IG. Please sign up in the connection cross post, or (if investigating individually) send me a PM, in game message, or a tell. Yar. Lastly I will briefly list the three "pre-made" groups here so that people can have some idea of what they are before the cross post is made. They are - The Maelstrom, The Immortal Flames, The Twin Adder, and the groups/individuals hired by the Valeneaux. Full details on what all is encompassed in these groups will be in the cross post. Thank you for your time, I hope you guys jump on and have fun with this. ^ ^ The connection thread cross post can be found here.
6. eisengrin. not the one in germany. please to add.
7. I think that is two unrelated bits. He does one thing because of the Echo, and chooses to only reveal himself to you and Minifilia.
8. You do realize that out of all the members of the Scions/Crystal Braves, Minfillia and your character are the only ones with the Echo? Statements like these make me question whether or not some of you have even played the Main Scenario in its entirety (Or rather, 2.0-2.3). That is not so. The other NPC adventurers also possess the Echo, as do some of the Scions, and ALL of the Archons. That is why they are Archons. Minfillia says so when you are first introduced to them. It is further stated in the quest text for some of the side quests that start in the waking sands. That is also why there are other adventurers wreathed in light in some of the cut scenes with Hydealyn, they are other Echo users.
9. There is some logic here. Each Novus plan should take into account your current and possible future gear builds. Yes, maxing out crit and skillspeed on a weapon will make you feels super cool, but if you have sacked too much of your accuracy doing it, you are going to be the fastest swinging, possible criting miss festival on Eorzea. It makes for becoming a sad panda. It is similar to the idea of "best in slot." There is no such thing as "best in slot" there is what is best for your overall build and what is not. Wasted stat points are still wasted stat points.
10. The Twelve are specific to Eorzea and part of the land's creation myth. They may be known of in the rest of Hydaelyn, but they are not worshipped as god universally. We have not heard much about Doman religion, and we know the Empire considers the Twelve to be primitive heresy.
11. I was in ST and got 90K'd. Yay for error 10105
12. Heh. I actually use this for a thing running around in the game right now. It would be silly if I did not bite. So, here goes. Yssen's virtue is Justice. He believes that society and law have very little to do with this concept, however. In point of fact he believe the world is a convoluted mess with very little justice in it at all. Mind you, he is not judgemental, just justice minded. Yssen has his own sense of what is right and wrong, as well as his own sense of when and what to do to balance the scales. Yssen's vice is Wrath. Despite his outwardly calm nature, Yssen can get angry very easily. He is also quite vengeful when all the right buttons are pressed, and has been known to act completely out of anger. Once he has truly been set off, he tends to be very focused and a little bit terrifying. Very few things/people can get him out of his wrathful state, once it has been triggered.
13. I would say it replaces the premise actually, completing the retcon of the previous lore. It is more talking about how one element flows into the other and are all part of a cycle, not that they cycle and topple each other. This reinforces how things work mechanically right now. Using fire spells has no detriment when attacking, say Leviathan. The spells simply have different effects attached to them. Jumping back a bit. The original question is whether or not one can use the teachings and paradigm of Conjury to pull of Thaumaturgy effects, from an IC standpoint. My answer to this remains, yes. There is ample evidence in lore and such to suggest that one does not need to use the teachings and paradigm of Conjury to pull off Conjury effects. Magical teachings all simply teach different methods of controlling and manipulating aether. I can see where those teachings would push a student toward using some elements over others, but not where they would flat out restrict the use of those elements by paradigm. Mechanically being a BLM, while ICly putting your effects in the paradigm of Conjury is hardly lore breaking.
14. I will be there. Possibly with bells on.
15. You have many things that work on many levels. If you wish, I can send you a PM with some detail type things and thusly connections can be made where most approriate/interesting/horrifying. ;p
16. I do have to point out that the book this is coming from may be a sticky point. They have changed a lot of the lore for caster type stuff since 1.0. The book being referred to is from a time when Conjurers had all the elemental magic (and when elemental weaknesses were actually a thing mechanically). Back then, Thuamaturges didn't have elemental magic at all, they use Astral and Umbral spells. While we can still see vestiges of those days in the current game, we do have to remember that all of that got practically thrown out from a lore stand point. This happened in 1.0 when they shifted how magic worked for CONs and THMs. Long story short, that book may have been effectively retconned as lore. Possibly when they changed magic in 1.0, but most certainly when ARR started up. Which element tops which is no longer a thing, and I am not sure there is a book around that says that it is now.
17. They have giant heads, and tiny arms, and they are not sure this plan was thought through. ^ ^
18. Question. Do they have to be 16 or can the skew younger? I have a potential candidate that is 15 going on 16. While she considers some one else to be her "father" discovering and interacting with her biological father could produce some very interesting results. I can PM you some details if you like.
19. There is nothing that says they cannot (other than the mechanics of the game not letting you cross class lightning spells anymore). They are just elements that Conjury does not focus on. In fact, the only real difference as far as lore for the different magic styles is source, approach, and philosophy. Thaumaturgy draws on the caster's own inner aether to produce effects, while Conjury from the natural aether flowing around them. The MP cost of Conjury spells and such is technically the caster paying back the area around them from their own aether. There is a whole thing in the Conjurer quest line that talks about this stuff. Beyond that the two styles are just vastly different philosophically, what with them both being representations of the primary religions and religious practices of their home city-states. This not to say that there are not some abilities and skills that would be exclusive to Thaumaturgy, Conjury, and Arcanistry. Conjurers have little need for the Astral Fire or Umbral Ice forms, from a lore stand point. Likewise, Conjurers would have not need for an ability like Convert, since they draw their power from what is around them rather than an inner reserve. I hope some of this has been helpful. ^ ^
20. Just a couple of notes on some of the many questions put forward. 1. On Galreans - Garleans cannot naturally use magic, like at all. The Imperial soldiers we see that do use magic are one of two things. They are either; a.) using a magitek device to simulate the ability to cast magic naturally, or b.) the brainwashed that have been pressed into service from lands taken over by the empire. There is one thing we do not know, and that is the definition of Garlean. We do not know if the term refers to pure blooded Garleans (Cid, Nero, etc.), or simply those who come from the area the Empire was founded in. They never have been clear on it. 2. On sources - Magic requires Aether (or something similar) as a power source. Thaumaturges use their own, Conjurers channel it from the elementals, and Arcanist channel from the surrounding area. We know that Eorzea as a whole is an aether rich environment. For whatever reason it just flows better here. This is probably the reason Eorzea boasts a higher number of Primals than elsewhere. We do know that in the course of conquest, the Empire encountered a Primal outside of Eorzea, but that is the only case we of a Primal being out side of Eorzea that we know of. The point here is that it is much easier to channel aether in Eorzea than it is elsewhere in the world. Also, while aether itself is a source, we do know that it is not the only source. Demons and other such dark things channel from the Void, casting spells such as Void Fire, Void Blizzard, ect. ect. We also know that regular people can do the same by forging pacts with Voidsent or otherwise connecting their aether to the Void. This is generally considered a bad thing by the three magic based Guilds. Lastly, and well worth mentioning, Ceruleum is also used as a source of magical energy. It is basically a liquid form of aether (think Mako energy from FFVII) and is processed used as the fuel for magitek devices. 3. On Aether Poisoning - Too much Aether is totally a thing. A bad thing at that. Absorbing too much Aether drives people nuts and has a deteriorating effect on the body. There is a similar effect mentioned when a person handles too much raw Ceruleum. The cause seems to be absorbing more than one's natural limit of Aether. Your mileage may vary as far as what the exact definition of that is. 4. On Casting - We currently have three major magic classes, but their spells are not the sum and total of spells available to Adventurers. Flash, Shield Oath, and Sword Oath are also spells. Bard songs are also spells. Monks channel Aether through their Chakras. For some reason Dragonfire Dive makes fire go splode everywhere. The point here being that Aether channeling/manipulation is not something that is the soul purview of just the spell casting classes. Just some things I have seen for consideration, and to help add stuff to the conversation. ^ ^ -Y
