1. I've been wrapping my head around the whole Eorzean to Earth conversion for time, piecing together just how best to interpret time in Eorzea so that it could, theoretically, flow 1::1 with Earth Time (i.e. like WoW). It hasn't been without it's set backs...but I believe I have found a solution. The cornerstone of my hypothetical time system is that, by word of Yoshi-P, an Earth week and an Eorzean week share the same timeframe- that is, both weeks are 168 hours. This makes divvying time between days relatively simple- seven 24 hour days becomes eight 21 hour days. The problem is how to scale the bell, minutes, and seconds that ensue. Do these scale down by the same factor as an Eorzean day? What about factoring in leap years? And what about all the in game clocks that are set to factors of 12? In that regard: 1). Impossible: Scaling down seconds alone is a complete mathematical mess that is, quite honestly, improbable to implement reliably. Seconds must remain 1::1 to be thesable to implement. 2). Thankfully, we can consider leap years unnecessary in Eorzean time. The Eorzean Calender can be considered 'perfect'- eight days a week, four weeks a month, and twelve months a year is a very neat and efficient management of time. Leap Years on Earth are basically adding back the 1/4th of a day that we round down from each year, so Earth would be 'catching up' once every four years. As for clocks? That was my breakthrough moment. I thought about it, and decided to divide the minutes of 21 hours by 12. That is to say, 1260\12 = 105. And I realized it. We didn't need Bells of an Eorzean day to equal one hour. We could simply have Twelve Bells- The First Astral Bell unto the Sixth Umbral Bell. It fits beautifully into Eorzea's concept of Moons and Cycles. The 3rd Umbral Bell, on the Second Fireday of the Sixth Astral Moon...wordy, perhaps, but elegantly high fantasy. As for minutes and seconds? It would be toilsome to adjust clocks to compensate for anything else than sixty minutes...but we don't have to! 105 minutes is 6300 seconds, which means we can 60 minutes at 105 seconds each minute. So to recap: 1 Eorzean Week = Eight Eorzean Days = 168 Earth Hours 1 Eorzean Day = 21 Earth Hours = 1260 Earth Minutes 12 Eorzean Bells = 21 Earth Hours 1 Bell = 105 Earth Minutes = 60 Eorzean Minutes 1 Eorzean Minute = 105 Earth Seconds::Eorzean Ticks What would this mean for the RP, if Yoshi-P found this page, went "Eureka!" and had the Dev Team calibrate Eorzean Time to flow to this system (which would make me have a cheshire grin for days)? It solves WoW's biggest problem with 1::1 time. Instead of having to log in and RP the same time every day (which sucks for folks at off hours, who have to RP nightowls), time rotates. If during the weekend you have RP hours at night, during the week you find yourself moving slowly through the day cycle, each day closer to the weekend having you start closer to the morning, then into the afternoon, and finally the evening once more as the cycle repeats itself. Of course, I could just be a madman that RPs yet another catlad in the game. That wouldn't surprise me..which is why I post it here. What do you all think? Could this work? Should it be brought forward to Yoshi-P against the odds that it's too troublesome to implement? Should I just give myself a swirly?

3. Hm. Yes. Yeeees. I think Ryn and Haecid could get along. Perhaps not at first...Rogues are one of the worst kept secrets of Limsa Lominsa, but I could see fun times ahead. Usually on Central American time, usually after 7 pm or so during the week. Hit me up, and let's see what happens.
4. Maetikoel is a Rogue? Rynathan's a Rogue! They should try and meet each other at some point!
5. Rynathan Elurhandir would probably butt heads with Mhaya at first, but I think it would be interesting for RP. He can come off as a bit of a knave since he's a member of the Rogue's Guild. But I think they could be fast friends, if not share at least a friendly rivalry of some sort. Ryn's mate Marianne is also a phenominal cook, and not opposed to the occasional spar. And their little circle of friends in Limsa Lominsa are pretty active as well. Feel free to send a tell sometime if you see the miqo'te around! I'm usually around during the week, more active on weekends, and I'm in the Central Timezone (Texas).
6. Excellent! How would Rynathan contact/ roguishly track down Jujuwai? I should be able to arrange for the measuring and fitting to take place in the Mists.
7. The daughter of a friend of Rynathan's has lost her arm. The rogue has been enlisted to search for a mechanic, preferably one specializing in prosthetic limbs, to help get the lass outfitted with a replacement. Looking for anyone near Limsa Lominsa, possibly the Shroud, to help help her out. Ul'danians would also work, but would probably have to meet Ryn outside the region, as he avoids traveling to them.
8. Well, Rynathan was born as E'Rynth. And seeing as I've written his backstory with a sour bridge burning with the Eft clan as he entered the 1.0 timeline, I wouldn't be oposed to discussing some sort of connection to the Eftmaw and Morbolvine clans. He's anti-tribal, so while far from villainous I'm sure he could be a source of some conflict for y'all, if you happen upon him in Limsa Lominsa. Send me a tell if you're interested.
9. I'm always looking to expand Rynathan's RP circle (and the Lominsian RP circle in general, really...pirates need love too). If you ever spot him slinking around Limsa Lominsa, feel free to throw some chicanery his way.
10. Hm...I don't know all the classes through and through, so I can't really recommend game mechanics. But it'd probably work best as an extra class, like DRK. Given the classic vibe of the red (rad) mage, maybe it could be a multi-role class that could Paradigm Shift between roles.
11. Samurai would be nice, bu- RED MAGE RED MAGE RED MAGE REDMAGE REDMAGEREDMAGE *reverently foams at the mouth*
12. I actually made a younger version of Rynathan, E'rynth, on Jenova to play with my brother since he couldn't jump onto Balmung at the time. I seriously neglected him, though, since it was a pure PvE affair and I tend to be a lowbie that prefers RP. Not to mention my internet at the time was attrocious, and I couldn't avoid AoEs due to a two-second lag time; certainly made RP more appealing
13. You might have more luck transferring a character in from another server. Just got my brother's character transferred into Balmung today, and it was surprisingly painless. You'd need to progress through the game a bit (the Lodestone's web page covering World Transfers has the specifics), and $18 is kinda a bitter pill. But it certainly saves the headache of having to have impeccable timing just to get into the RP community. Welcome to the community! Hope you find your way into the sever alright.
14. I've recently returned myself. Walked out of the Mizzenmast, got pulled into an excellent RP session. The community's never been better- welcome back!
15. I cannot lie Scaith, it was a really easy decision.
16. Rynathan's Theme: Time's Scar - Chrono Cross PZ595N9NZVg This version specifically. I think it portrays his dissonance and prospective development well.
17. Thank you Kiba, Nailah, and Scaith for the warm welcome. Rynathan's hair is kinda sorta blue, depends on the weather really (sorry Scaith, point to Kiba). Given I have this insane notion of soloing the Deep Dungeon when it comes out...oh yes. This game will be fun. Yeeeessss. Any advice on formatting wiki pages? I have one set-up for Ryn but I was thinking of finding a format more along the lines of Nailah's, with more horizontal tabs than vertical scrolling. Thing needs to be updated badly, so I might as well start at the roots.
18. Rynathan Elurhandir of Balmung server was an active Rogue back before I stepped away from the game. Plan on reintegrating him with the Sisters this weekend, though that Hands of the Edelweiss seems intriguing too. Ryn definitely could use a friendly Rogue or two in his corner. Not sure if he'd be the best mentor, since he took a leave of absence from the Rogues, but I can see it being a fun time. Send me a message if you want to plan something!
19. Wild Chicanery uses Flail! ...aaaand it knocked itself out. Been awhile since I've played FFXIV. Been resolving a potato for an internet issue, then got strung up with real life stuff. Finally in a place where I can return to the game and the RP community! Rynathan of Balmung should be prowling around the docks of Limsa Lominsa any day now, as I review his character and previous scenarios and figure out how he's come along while I've been away. Really looking forward to getting through the MSQ, though getting back into the RP feels daunting. It's good to be back! If you're fresh to the experience, looking to find a roleplay buddy, or just looking to grind through the MSQ to get to the goid stuff, so am I!
20. *ranger rolls into the trenches* I bring you a snippet that might shine a light on this matter of Lore White Mages; ~A Mizzenmast Repast, Scene Two (MSQ LV 14) It's a small snippet of information, aye. But it brings up some questions. Succor isn't capitalized in this context, but Kan-E-Senna- the primary teacher of White magic- wouldn't just throw around the word casually, especially since she could have said, "The Yellow Serpents are in need of aid." And it would make sense she would dictate where and when the power of white magic would need to be applied in a warzone. So therein exists a potential for people than other then the Warrior(s) of Light to be trained in the ways of White Magic. So this begs the question of what the White Wolves are. And it would be an ironic name if this military force was not affiliated with White Magic. Certainly not all White Mages, but perhaps a honor guard for those white mages Kan-E Senna has reared to face the might of the Garlean Empire. What sort of Lore exists about this Gridanian military force? As for pure and corrupted trees of white magic...I'd treat it as White and Black Necromancy in the D&D sense. Sure, you can apply Necromancy in straight-laced ways (Prettying up and preserving corpses, disposing of bodies to prevent undead plague, communication and succor for the spirits of the deceased, etc), but there are plenty of way to twist the original image of the school of magic, and the balance clearly tips to the latter. Kan-e Senna's school of white magic, then can be seen as its 'Pure' form, granting life unto life. The corrupted school of white magic, then, might be granting life unto matter...or twisting together a heinous bastardization of life.
21. Thank you all for the replies! @Faye: I think I could see Rynathan finding his way to the Harbringers at some point. IC wise, he's only attuned to the Aetheryte in La Noscea at this point, and without an airship passage or a company-issued chocobo, he's kept to the region. With Oschon as his Guardian, however, the itch to roam is bound to arise sooner or later, and he's far more likely to trot along to Gridania over Ul'dah. I can see Rynathan interacting well with X'unme, seeing as they're both good-aligned and he'd probably find fun in badgering the lass. And Seeing as they're both Chaotic, I think Ryn could eventually get to the point of trying to get Shadiyah to be less moody...though he'd instantly feel her creepy Void presence in the room and, well, he's got two strikes against him already. I think an encounter between the two would enlighten Ryn to odd paradigms within his own constitution that might make him reconsider not caring what brought him to La Noscea. Lady Covington and Ryn would probably not get along well for awhile. While Rynathan follows his own way, he'd probably clash over their means to the desired end. And I'm pretty sure he and Aelius might end up as nemeses, especially if he takes a job that crosses the Code. Of course, I'm just drawing conclusions on the characters based on Alignment; the RP is its own beast. Given our timezone difference, maybe we could set something up for the weekend. Not sure how late you run in the week. @Septia- Yeah, out Time zones make it pretty hard to align well. But I am not opposed! Perhaps we could set up a forum RP and work together on giving the characters some prior interaction? That way when we cross stars and meet in the RP, we can jump right into the RP goodness. Or the inevitable death duel on a lava field with aether-edges alight and fury coursing through our character's veins where one of them becomes a robot and the other a hermit =P @A'kos, Okhi- Definitely up for RPing with you guys. Maybe we could arrange a meet-up between the three of us and expand their Rogue network?
22. [lol] Seriously? Bombs? THAT'S your RP gimick? Who do you think you are, the 9th Doctor or somethin'!? NOBODY BOMBS LIKE THE 9TH DOC BOMBS CAUSE WHEN THE 9TH DOC BOMBS HE GETS A LOVE INTEREST!!!1! [/lol]
23. Greetings, and thank you for your time! Out of character, I go by Zephyo, and I consider myself a medium level roleplayer. I've been a roleplayer for almost 14 years now, starting young under the boughs of a certain Spiritwood years and years ago. Since then, I've roleplayed and attempted to roleplay in every MMO I've indulged in, and tried to involve myself in forum roleplay communities covering a whole spectrum of genres and lores. It's given me a great passion for writing and characterization, one that gnaws on me like an itch to be scratched raw. But I think my biggest problem is that I don't get involved with the community behind the roleplay, and without OOC contact, I drift off into inactivity. Final Fantasy 9 is one of my favorite games, and I can't deny that its protagonist, Zidane Tribal, has had influence over my character as I've tried to flesh him out through the roleplay. But for all the interesting gimmicks I can try to give him, or the characterization I pull out of him, Rynathan Elurhandir is really nothing without a community of characters to develop and grow around. Rynathan is...kooky. Whimsical. A little immature, and can be daft socially. To those that can move past his barbing jests, he is a kind person who zealously pursues his own standards, despite what others may think of his brand of chivalrous chicanery. He values trust in others far more than the gil in his pockets, and places the trust others have in him much higher. Awakening amidst the craigs of La Noscea with a splitting little recollection of who he was (another amnesiac, YAAAY) Ryn has found himself associated with the Rogues of Limsa Lominsa, with the Wench his chosen post. He cares little as to finding out who he was before...whatever happened to him, and throws himself into the present with reckless abandon. What I'm looking for IC are three major things: 1). More Rogues. For how he flaunts his own flag of the Code about (figuratively speaking...a real flag would be awkward), Rynathan has no interactions with PCs within or associated with the Rogue's Guild. Which I feel is kinda sad and limiting, seeing as Limsa Lominsa has all these nice Cartels and Crews running about IC but no real Rogue presence to speak of. Knowing a couple of Rogues would really help his RP immensely. Adds to the legitimacy factor of hanging Coke-breakers by their ankles. 2). Friends. Rynathan...has met people. Inadvertently harasses a pair pf Au Ra siblings. And in recent events, saved a guy's wife from getting enthralled by a void possessed person (full body tackles- effective, but highly impractical) and getting him out of the corner for a change. But as for friends, he doesn't really have people that close to him yet. And that wouldn't be limited to just his time in Limsa Lominsa, but before losing his memories as well. From his childhood, or even his days as a low-key adventurer. People that, while he doesn't remember or dwell on, might throttle his paradigm and force growth that wouldn't occur otherwise. 3). A Good-Aligned Free Company. I'm currently in a non-RP focused FC, and it's not a horrible thing. But while I eventually plan on playing through the game and getting to Heavensward and all the cool looking gear, I'm really enjoying my time taking it slow and just RPing, so my interests aren't really aligned with theirs. So having a group of people I can jump between IC banter and OOC chicanery would be pretty freaking cool. Thank you for taking the time to read this far. Quite a bit of text up there now. Feel free to PM me if you wuld be at all interested, or leave a reply about any questions or concerns you might have. Thank you again for your time!
24. Oooh, I like this a lot, count me interested! Rynathan is an amnesiac who found himself on Oschon's doorstep amidst the crags of La Noscea, and upon his recovery has made Limsa Lominsa his home. He has aligned with the rogues of the city, and the unspoken Code of the city-state is a familiar comfort to him. However, he has little knowledge of how drastically the world has changed since the Calamity Bahamut brought to Eorzea, and of the Au Ra that have begun to adventure through the realm. Not to mention the changes to himself he remains ignorant to. Key Points: Shrewd, Observant, prone to chicanery. An IC Rogue, with an unrealized affinity for Gladiator. Has also dabbled in Conjury and Pulgism. Finds Arcanery tedious. Still letting the character come into his own through In game interactions, so the wiki page for him is still rather empty. I'd be happy to share more; I have logged most of his RP so far for my reference, and would be happy to share so you could get an idea of his character =)
25. Thank you for the information, Reppu. You have been most helpful in my venture into the RP, and your politeness is unexpected and greatly appreciated.
