  1. While he no longer identifies as or allows himself to be called an adventurer, originally he was simply looking for answers about who he might be. Having no memories of who you are and a talent for various things for no apparent reason usually prompts some people to search for answers. Adventurer was the convenient glove he could fit over his endless thirst for information.
  2. I think it depends on the splash importance of the achievement, how easily others could digest said claim, and how it affects the ffxiv time bubble. For example, if I was rping with someone who clearly was rank 1 in pvp, they have the gear to match it, and they call themselves the current best in the wolves den, I personally would see no reason to ignore or argue that. Not only did someone devote themselves to their rp, they worked their /booty/ off for it. If acknowledge it. If someone walked up and told me they helped kill like...Twintania or something, regardless of if they were present for the very first twin clear on the server, icly I couldn't even respond to it. Because it is a canonically debatable subject, it's not something that could easily be spread as ic info, and generally has the same feeling that the people who comment "First!" On things tend to give off. I think it's dependent on a persons disposition as far as what they will and won't take, really. Like lore bending. I still think rp and ooc shouldn't be overly connected though. Things get fuzzy quick there.
  3. I kind of treat them like a ticking time bomb to be honest. I mean, it's like a giant middle finger in a way. Not because they took a pre established character as their own, but because rp kinda works around a system of people not particularly more well established than others in the way of being special. Being Thancred, for example, shatters that notion for literally everyone involved. You just inserted a "famous" person into rp. There is no canon precident for this being possible because you create questions that can't be answered. How famous is "Thancred" and should I know him on sight? Is my character special enough to interact with this person? Will they be accurate enough to match everyone's canon (hell no)? There is no way to introduce a character that is constantly subject to official change into rp without making a large portion of everyone participating feel uncomfortable in some kind of way. If a person you interact with has to have a mental exercise about whether or not interacting with you can be canon or even good to do at all, in my opinion, you have done something wrong more often than not. And all because some douche wanted to be a special potato among people who usually all want to be special potatoes but can't cause of what I'll politely call public order. Tl;dr: I avoid them because ultimately they are either stressful, a waste of my time, or both. Edit: for a more extreme example of what I mean, imagine someone rping as Lightning. We know it's canon that she could be there, and she could be easily remade without it directly mucking up ffxiv because her story is done, so to speak. But how easy is that character to digest in a public rp setting? I think that more easily sums up what I was getting at if my points seemed unclear.
  4. Some random guy: let's just make the housing instanced already so people can stop asking for more housing. Ffxiv devs: hang that man. Finally getting my gc unit though thank Le gods. Inb4 ranking up is a convoluted mess.
  5. TL;DR: The roleplay activity on the server tends to fluctuate with the age of the last major patch, and if activity seems low, you will likely have to be more proactive and poke people more than having them walk up to you. Ive been playing this game since 1.0 launched, and honestly it seems to be more of a cycle to how Rp progresses per update, rather than an absence of it. Its a rough summary, but this is generally how Ive seen it go each major update: People join/return/get otherwise back into Rp after an update. Maybe some story stuff happened, or maybe some sweet gear dropped. Whatever the reason people want to either try some new Rp ideas, write around the most recent story content in Rp, or join a neat plot. A large portion of these people quickly get absorbed into FCs and group up with each other, or eventually lose interest rather quickly and either go back to the game, get into something else in another game, or otherwise get bored/busy with RL stuff. Despite how that might sound this is usually when most of the open walk up Rps happen because the most people are on and a huge amount of people want to get their characters out there. Its like FC happy hour, but for like....weeks instead of actual hours. After the buzz dies down a bit thats when the clique Rp starts to rise up a bit. People have already found their Rp groups and friends and generally stay within those groups unless they are running a public event. Around this time I feel is the hardest to find open Rp because There honestly isnt much going on. Even most of the people I have personally seen active around this time openly are a part of a plot of some sort. (Not saying that means they cant be open to Rps but generally its my opinion it can make them harder to approach for newer characters or Rpers, as most of the characters part of a plot want to interact with specific types of characters to advance said plot.) And then there is the third phase where either a new update is coming soon or is otherwise around the corner, and hype for it is rising. Around this time plots are usually wrapping up somewhat or becoming more open, new plots are starting, and you have a mix of people leaving and joining the game. This "phase" tends to be the most ooc in my opinion because usually around now people are either grinding or trying to finish story content to get ready for the next batch of SE content. This is also however the time when Rpers tend to start putting themselves back out there before the explosion of people being active after the update. I find this time a pretty decent way to run into new friends and people, but as people tend to be less proactive about finding friends at this point it would likely mean that you yourself would have to be more proactive in making those connections (Much to to the disadvantage of character types that prefer to be approached.) There are obviously exceptions to the bullets above, and in all of those times you can find Rpers and Rp, I just personally believe that it is easier during the first and third phases. It will also help you immensely if you get a hold of a Rp calendar of some sort, as Im pretty sure there is one (Or several) on this site. If you are looking for strictly random/walk ups however, I think it would be good to get a feel of how Rp is generally moving around the circle. Also kind of related is where you find it. The Quicksand isnt the only place people openly Rp, its just generally the most well known. As of the time of this posting I believe we are inbetween the second and third phase of the Rps activity. I hope this helped a little.
  6. Still looking for more people if anyone was interested
  7. Hello everyone and thank you for your replies. Getting back to you all now.
  8. Title says just about everything I want to, but here is the rest. Im looking for: Characters that need or want spy training. Characters that are already spy types and are seeking an organization to join or an antagonist spy organization to oppose. Characters or groups seeking to have a spy among them for story or plot reasons. If there is an interest please either send me a private message or post here and I will message you myself. Short and sweet, but I can and will happily answer other questions anyone might have. Thanks for reading. EDIT: If you are already in a FC it will not be a problem. You do not need to join my FC or any linkshells. Forgot to mention that bit. >.>
  9. Shoor I haz a large FC house I dont mind you using. You shouldnt even need to worry about party chat rps.Worst that might happen isone or two of us spectating. Im Eligor Abigor in game if you had any other questions or concerns. Also on Balmung, just in case you happen to be on Gilgamesh or somewhere else.
  10. Why the fuck is barret wearing matrix sunglasses now? That is all I got from this trailer.
  11. Its actually not that hard once you get the idea. Im not perfect at it but I can help if you'd like.
  12. -le snip- Well that answered a lot of questions I had about Midgard, and by extension "dragon death" in FFXIV, but all of that also raised a few more questions. From everything you posted it sounds like for now, whats known about the whole situation with Bahamut is as clear as its going to get until possibly a later date when they decide to grace us with a complete and clear story about what went down. My attention now is more focused less on Bahamut and Tiamat and more on Midgardsormr. From your many (wow) sources and quotes, we can get an idea of how powerful he either is or was at some point, seeing as nuking him not only made him take a nap, but turned a wonderfully lush land into a zombie hellscape out of a Steven King book, but now it raises questions on exactly WHY he chose that moment to wake up. The WoL may have been the one to awaken him, but the WoL certainly wasnt his first visitor, seeing as how you have to fight platoons of Garleans to get to him in the first place, and until he hitches a ride inside of you he was all for the whole "kill all (humanz)" ideal, so why did it take him fifteen years (Give or take) to wake up and start doing things again? And on that subject why does what is essentially a massive space monster *cough* Jenova *cough* have a working relationship with the will of a planet to the point that he can disable said will's blessing? I realize at this point Im treading into the realm of "there just isnt an answer yet", but its getting weirder the more I find out. Ignoring his eggs that he apparently had a reason to bring to Hydaelyn from somewhere for some reason that he is obviously more powerful than, why is a being this powerful only observing, or better yet why isnt he a target for the Ascians? Another spitball thought that caught my attention in your quotes is that the Allagans were conquering everything during their reign. Why wasnt Silvertear Lake a target? I doubt they repelled the massive superdragon that was alive and well enough when the Garleans rolled around, so did they just kinda avoid the overlord but actively murder most of his descendants at the time? I feel like there is certainly a very specific line here somewhere that Im missing but it just gets crazier the deeper I go. Finally Id like to point out that Dragons in particular are really iffy with death. In one of your quotes from Midgard himself he states that he was "slumbering", but his ghost thing attacks you, so he was clearly out of body. Then another quote of yours mentioning the crystals being his aether mention that he is dead, so I think its fair to assume that what is death for the races of man in FFXIV dont apply to at least Midgardsormr. Its also fair to assume that his first body is "dead" since he went through the trouble of making a new one in the first place, but maybe he can have multiple bodies or whatever. I actually have a theory that he cant be absorbed into the lifestream seeing as he was apparently there "before time was time" on Eorzea, but thats another crackpot theory on its own and this post is long enough. Thanks for replying everyone again btw. EDIT: What is Midgardsormr's seal? I know he guards the lake but I dont remember anything about him managing a seal.
  13. I DID assume that Midgard died, but I didnt meant Nidhogg died when he fought the knights, I meant that he died after fighting the WoL which considering that his eyes werent completely gone certainly explains that bit. But that still leaves Bahamut and Tiamat. Even if Bahamut WAS killed somehow defending anything, that still leaves out why the six other celestial dragons didnt help him in some way (Midgardsormr was guarding the Lake so he is kinda excused). It also doesnt answer why Tiamat is in Azys La out of all the places she could "choose" to exile herself. Midgard points out that she chooses to stay there, Im just trying to figure out the "why" behind it. Out of all the horrible punishments I personally can imagine with my incomplete knowledge of just Eorzea letting myself be trapped in a floating super lab thing that the people who killed my brother lover created just doesnt really seem too high on the list. Not to mention the possibilities of just when she was actually trapped. If she was trapped (most likely) before the allagans went poof then they likely did tests on her that wouldnt be too nice for other dragons, so why did they let her keep both of her eyes? If it was after they went poof, how did she get in the barrier and activate the restraints? I understand you can make dumb decisions when you are sad, but her decision is so odd and specific I cant even understand it. Also thanks for the replies everyone loving em so far.
  14. So Ive been thinking a lot about Tiamat lately and why she is sealed in Azys La by choice. The more I think about it, the more it seems an oddly specific and weird punishment to choose for herself. So we have established a few things about dragons to date in FFXIV. First, death is kinda iffy for the older/stronger dragons, as proven by both Nidhogg and Midgard, both of whom have decided that death is little more than an unpleasant nap as of yet. We have also established that eyes are the source of power for dragons, and without them they can maybe(?) be killed (again, Nidhogg is an example of having no eyes and still being all cool with it, as is Midgard.) So my question is....how exactly was Bahamut permanently killed? He wasnt just some youngling dragon, he was one of the first brood of Midgard like Tiamat, so it seems odd that one that would later be worshiped by other dragons could be killed--at least permanently enough that Tiamat would deal with the Ascians who likely are the only ones capable of permanently killing him in the first place to "summon" him back to life. I cant understand how Bahamut could simply DIE when Nidhogg, someone who is further down the line can survive losing both of his eyes, AND even being obliterated only to possess someone later and rebirth himself. And I dont really wanna get started on how Midgard was basically in a nuclear explosion which would typically include one's eyes (his corpse looked mummified to me) and just was like "nah its cool I'll just become your mount now." So with all of that it just gets me wondering WHY Tiamat chose imprisonment via the Allagans when she apparently could have chosen death or...something else. (EDIT: Also why cant Midgard just breath Bahamut back to life like he did those dragons he makes you fight when you meet him?) Theories or answers? Im seriously stumped here and its starting to drive me nuts.
  15. Honestly I see it done more by lalafell Rpers than the rest of the races in general. It does not really bother me personally seeing as my character typically uses the stereotype to his advantage. IF someone decides at a glance he needs to be treated like a kid, he isnt gonna shout at em and tell them to stop, he is more likely to let them pamper him or whatever and then later set them up for either regret or a surprise. I can see how it CAN get tiresome, especially in plot Rp, but really Ive been Rping a lalafell so long its easier to just roll with it in your own way rather than get offended about it.
  16. The ability to craft YOUR CHARACTER as an in game minion with custom armor sets and generic behaviors so that you could essentially turn a character into an in game idol, and dominate the already saturated Market Board game with even more outrageous prices. Take this limited edition *Erik wearing the female hempen undershirt, pantalettes* ITS ONE OF A KIND!
  17. Im up for any instance in which the derpgoon dies a painful and hilarious death so....bread. No statistics, just bread.
  18. Tifa.....wearing PANTS? *Kills everyone withing a 500 mile radius and makes many upset comments to everyone about it*
  19. Wow.....so I guess this vampire thread didnt cast flame shield (que cheesy drum). OT though I would say there are plenty of ways to go about making an unofficial vampire in the game without HURRDURR breaking lore per se. Like mentioned already how your character functions could be explained with various void touched/aether proficient or reliant/any sort of function you want or need to make yourself happy. Then as other people pointed out the word and description for a vampire already exists within the lore. Does that make you a vampire SE made? Nope. Could your character take inspiration from the word or in game descriptions and take to calling themselves that because they want to? Yup. Ultimately it IS your money and you CAN do whatever you want in a game YOU paid for, and to Hell with everyone else saying nay. The issue with that approach however is that you typically dont join a MMO RP community to play by yourself. You can Rp your own head canon all day and no one can bother you about it, but what it comes down to is that you want other people to accept and play with your character. I PERSONALLY tend to approach Rps with a set of questions in my mind. 1) Is this something I would find fun to play as or with? 2) Is this something that will be more than just a "soda fizz" phase, where something is new and exciting and then the entire novelty just dies off later and no one really has a satisfying conclusion or takes anything worthwhile from it? 3) Will I have to retcon this later or will this end up destroying my or someone else's character in the long run because it will not be able to function after devoting themselves so deeply into it? Usually, if the answer to any of those questions is no, them I dont want to bother with the idea, and if the idea is mine, I axe it. Not saying at all that you should do the same, but it is my opinion that if you are seriously trying to bring a concept to life then you need to think about what it is you are really proposing to someone, and how the things you would like to happen would affect someone else that would even give it the time of day. Your Rp experience is yours, but the second you involve someone else in your ideas it affects more than just you, and I believe that should be considered more than whether or not it fits into the lore yet. People take their characters seriously, so the second you present something even slightly potentially destructive you open a can of fire breathing worms.
  20. I would REALLY love to rant about this, but being that it is an opinion I will simply respond with another. Correct or aesthetically pleasing sentence structure and habit does not a good Rper make. I know a LOT of Rpers, and have been exposed to a lot of different styles, and I can say that in my own personal experience whether or not a person has used quotations to identify whether or not they were speaking when nothing else was happening in a sentence did not take away from future Rp, nor did it make someone who did in comparison seem like a better or worse Rper. Im still getting kinda ranty so I will leave it at that, but I just wanted to share my own opinion on your response.
  21. le snipped for glitchy goodness. Gotta stop phone posting.

  25. The Jormangundr from the Crystal Tower. Cause Im obsessed with the serpent, and I think outright morphing into Midgard would be impossible or unfair.
