  1. I will absolutely do my best to make this. I make no guarantees, unfortunately. I will be out of town the day before.
  2. My boss, who happens to be my 4th grade Math teacher, says I have to paint this building the color H. I climb the ladder, and notice a masked psycho who wants to cut me apart with a butterknife, and I can't think straight because the dogs are barking incessantly. I finally paint the building, but the police want to question me. That's when I woke up.
  3. For now just do whatever the people with the exclamation point inside the meteor looking icon tell you to do. I assume you're here because you want to RP as well. Take the time learning to play the game to try and get a sense of the world, and what kind of character you'd like to play. Ask as many questions as you need to.

  5. Oh man, my wife absolutely adores And One. She puts them on in the car when we're on a long drive, and they're not normally my thing, but I liked that song. I'm more of a Covenant guy, myself. [video=youtube]
  6. For Doge: Shiva EX fists - Just for practicality Leviathan spear - For glamour and upcoming plot For Iskierka: Any and all kind of masks or face covering equipable by DoM.
  7. Better Call Saul The Daily Show The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore Last Week Tonight I'm waiting for Game of Thrones to come back, and I'm woefully behind on Breaking Bad and Vikings.
  8. Iski is an average girl, No one understands. Mom and Dad and Vicki Always giving her commands! Gloom and doom up in her room Is broken instantly! By two magic little fish who grant her every wish! 'Cause in reality They are her oddparents! Fairly Oddparents!
  9. This is the best. Like holy shit. Absolutely the best. Can I do a track with you? Kiam Kaah ft. Roe G. Wade?
  10. I would say that's largely because Dystopia Rising is a post-apocalypse zombie horror game. I pay $65 a month plus gear and camping expenses to have the crap scared out of me.
  11. Go for it, OP! Have fun! If you're going to write fanfiction, more exposure to the material is always a good thing! If you feel this means leveling another character then go for it! You'll get the cut scenes, but also the plot that isn't laid out that way. You get the dialogue in quests and context scenes, too. Sometimes even in quest narratives. The context for the cutscenes is important, too. However! If you think that leveling a new character to 50 might hinder you from writing, that's OK too. The most important thing about a writing project is that it gets written! You can always edit later! I definitely think writing will help you become a better role player. It will help you think about characterization and how to build a plot, which are great skills to have in RP. Basically writing in any form is good, and I encourage you to write as much as possible!

    On Age

I'm also 30. Dogberry is 34. There are a number of characters (Laufuli, Flickering Ember, Wiltfya to name a few) who I call "Dogberry's kids" because he is very concerned about their well being. Some of them are not, technically speaking, children, but he views them as such. Dogberry has a lot of misdirected paternal issues. That said, when it comes to uh... getting physical, Dogberry has proven himself at times a scumbag. At his emotional low points, a sixteen year old obsessing over him would most definitely be the kind of emotional validation he'd crave until he was done with them. He has done stuff like this before, but not with a teenager. But even with the right ratio of fatherhood/validation, it's unlikely a teenager could properly satisfy him. He's got tastes and needs you just aren't born with. Experience would most definitely win out over age. Me as a person says oh god, no, sixteen year olds please go home and do teenager things. Me, as a role player, looks at it and says "this is a fantasy world, with a different set of cultural morals, and also my character is a bit of a shitbag sometimes." I should also disclose that I don't ERP. I strictly fade to black, mostly because I find ERP about as sexy as visit to the dentist.
  13. Not to go off topic, but I've pumped gas in West Baltimore dressed like a satyr.
  14. Oh wow, it's cool to see Dystopia Rising show up here. DR is the LARP I play in. I've had discussions about "bleed" with the author of this article on the Dystopia Rising facebook page, and she has some really fantastic ideas about debriefings being held after each game. I think I can safely tell you that the bleed I feel after a Dystopia Rising game is vastly different from the bleed I feel from an FFXIV plot. In FFXIV, I am much more likely to experience bleed in. I feel that I am my character's strongest advocate. When bad things happen to them, or I feel they're being treated unfairly, I feel bad for them (even if I'm the one making sure this stuff happens to them). I, more than anyone else, knows my characters struggle, so I root for them. Of course I want them to succeed. It's very easy to get wrapped up in those emotions. It's almost like my character are a relative and I want to look after them sometimes. When those emotions get too strong, I have to pull back a little and take a break until the emotions subside and I can deal with it rationally. This usually takes a couple of hours because I'm aware that it's a game, and a collaborative story. I don't have or want full control over what happens in my character, and can always spin the things that cause bleed into a jumping off point. In Dystopia Rising, the things that happen to my character happen to me. Bleed-out is rampant. When my character can get no sleep because zombies have burst into the shelter he's resting in, I have to physically get up and fight off a bunch of people in costumes with a latex covered sword and shield. When he's hungry and tired from long marches and looking for supplies to bring down to the camp, I'm the one feeling the hunger, the exhaustion, and the paranoia of being exposed in dangerous territory. After a Dystopia Rising event I come home a completely different person, and a lot of people at DR talk about feeling the same way. It's common for a lot of people to want to go to restaurants after events, mostly to mingle, but I've talked with others who say, and I'm among them, that it's a jarring reminder that they've returned to civilization. You just can't get a Red Robin burger in the wastelands. When I get home, the immediate shower I take is the first time I've been actually alone in three days, and I'm enjoying having a little bit of privacy but also kind of worried that someone is going to burst through the door and I'll have to beat them to death with the shower curtain rod. For at least three days I check the surroundings of my car for attackers. I approach blind corners slowly. I always, always, know where my exits are and how many people are around me at any given time. When that song or commercial I hate comes on the radio during my morning commute to work, I don't mind anymore. Do you know how much of a miracle it is that these things even exist?! It sure as shit beats the banjo and bongo combo of Mark and Sand crooning by the bonfire! I'd say a large part of the difference is because of the immersive nature of DR vs. the video-gameyness of FFXIV. Plus, I can always log out of FFXIV. When DR gets too intense, I have a three hour drive home.
  15. The scientific skeptic in me says it's because Tarot cards actually have a wide meaning of interpretations, and can be vague enough that you can make pretty much any interpretation you wish, and you can generally get by on telling people what they want to hear. Knowing how to do that is more about reading people than it is about cards, or tea leaves, or runes. The charlatan and RPer in me says BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IN THE HEART OF THE CARDS! THEY CAN GUIDE IS TO THE TRUTH!
  16. Everyone, thank you, thank you, thank you. The turnout and reception to this event was amazing. I hope you all enjoyed it. I tried to get to as many of you as possible, and if I missed you, or couldn't get to you, please contact me and we can work out a time for your reading. Thanks to Xenedra for hosting and having to manage a lot more chaos than I think either of us expected. I will be much more organized next time around now that I have an idea of what to expect. I'm going to use a word document as a sign up sheet and ask that people send me a tell after emoting signing up on the sheet.
  17. This implies we're corruptible. I happen to know for a fact at least a few of you are. Sharkbag.
  18. I'm in. Citizens for Housing Threads. Edit: Excuse me, CONCERNED CITIZENS. Yes! Concerned Citizens for Housing Threads! Brilliant!
  19. brb forming a lobby PAC to influence the mods.
  20. I might be quite enjoying the fact that Amazon Prime allows for all 5 seasons to be in HD for prime accounts. :V Would this allow for some.... human trafficking (and deaths), with political contributions to ship captains under the Admiral's command and some sort of heroin drug? Human trafficking is covered pretty extensively in the Rogue quest line, and Somnus is basically opium. There's corruption in just about any government, and I imagine quite a few Maelstrom captains still have that old Pirate mentality. Though there's quite a bit of apathy in the Baltimore Police Department that I just don't see the Maelstrom having. The Maelstrom is a new concept to Limsa Lominsa, and Merlwyb seems to be a popular leader. A lot of people under her are going to be True Believers, as opposed to the jaded bureaucrats in The Wire.
  21. The Wire is one of my favorite shows of all time. I've always wanted to take Dogberry into a kind of Frank Sobotka direction, particularly involved in labor, and having the lives and livelihoods of others to consider in every decision he makes. It sounds like you're on Season 1, so I won't go into any detail. Sobotka doesn't show up until Season 2. I'm not lying when I said I binge-watched. I -might- have wanted to see the last episode but I'm nicely into Season 2 already. He's the guy at the shipping yards right? Yeah, Frank Sobotka is the leader of the Baltimore chapter of the "International Brotherhood of Stevedores" (basically the fictionalized version of the International Longshoremen's Association) at the Port of Baltimore. I'd love to see RP dealing with corruption in Limsa Lominsa's ports.
