He showed up to the church in his golf pants, caked in mud, and pushes the priest aside and says "I'LL BAPTISE THAT PIECE OF CALAMARI!" and soaks Dogberry's baby in whiskey and says "THERE YOU'RE BAPTISED!" And his son is blind to this day!

This is something I could totally get behind. Use Otakon as an event to work around for a get together, but don't actually... go there. I remember there being a mall nearby that has a wide assortment of food places, and a couple out interesting locales around that might make for good meeting points. Yeah, the inner harbor has a bunch of amazing bars and restaurants. There's a casino nearby now, too. I'm thinking I'll blow off the con entirely on Sunday and go to the aquarium or the science center.

Dogberry is pretty shameless, but the running gag I've had going for a while is that the ONE THING that makes him blush is any mention of "ze puff puff."

I have a hotel room reserved nearby. I will be available to meet up anywhere around the convention center and inner harbor area. I am not going to the convention as the Otakon experience just stopped being something I enjoy. I will, however, be around to greet friends that are coming in out of town. I'm a Baltimore native, so if you have any questions or want suggestions, I will gladly help.

Dogberry is the name of one of my favorite Shakespearean characters. He was the inept constable in Much Ado About Nothing who constantly used the wrong words for what he was trying to say. He's a great comedic character, and I wanted to put that kind of lightheartedness into the character. It's a silly name, unbecoming of a hulking Roegadyn, but with his personality, he totally owns it. His last name Himalspyr(syn)--the syn is silent-- is Roegadyn for "Heaven Spear", which is a name passed around among Dogberry's bloodline. The story of the name is that one of Dogberry's ancestors threw a spear so high it flew into the heavens and got stuck. Also, it kind of implies that Dogberry has a Dragoon ancestor somewhere in there maybe. Iskierka's (Pronounced Iss-Key-Air-Ka) name came from one of my favorite books, "Black Powder War" by Naomi Novik, which is part of her "Temeraire" series about dragons fighting in the Napoleonic Wars. In the books, Iskierka is a Polish dragon that is given over to England in order to help them breed firebreathing dragons. She had other plans. Iskierka is my favorite dragon in the series because she's so headstrong. She acts exactly the way you'd imagine a fire breathing dragon would act. Her name even means "Little Spark". I wanted this character to have a name the belied just how much of a fighter she is. Plus, I think it's just a gorgeous name. Stormspeaker just seemed like a perfect name for a mage. She speaks, and creates a storm. Or she speaks to storms and they do her bidding. Or her words themselves are the storm. It works several ways.

Daghbheri and Rhutshald had been playing at the beach all morning. Styrseig watched them from her chair under the canopy, sipping idly at her pineapple juice. Daghbheri appeared to be teaching Rhutshald how to surf. She remembered watching her own father teaching Daghbheri the same, years ago. Greimoen would catch a wave and cut dangerously close. Daghbheri, ever in competition with his older sister, would get mad and catch the very next wave. Their father would laugh and encourage their fights. Styrseig herself had no interest in their jockeying for supremacy. She kept to herself, mostly, and she felt she was better off for it. It was this competition that led them both into the war, and their mutual undoing. Her lack of involvement left her in the right place to pick up the pieces of their lives. Rhutshald was among them. She remembered holding the boy, just three years old at the time, when Daghbheri walked out of his life. She raised the boy now, and saw all the ways he was Daghbheri's son. His pride, she noticed, was definitely inherited from his father. The same with how he showed emotion. Both Daghbheri and Rhutshald wore their hearts on their sleeves. It's no wonder they got along so well. She loved those things about him. It's funny, she thought, the paradox of loving Rhutshald for all the things she hated about Daghbheri. Rhutshald fell into the water from the surf board, and Styrseig felt the urge to rush up to check on him. When Rhutshald surfaced, laughing, she relaxed. Daghbheri recovered the board, and swam toward Rhutshald with it, shouting words of encouragement at the boy. Did Daghbheri really change? She remembered a man so often in trouble that his long voyages at sea seemed strategically planned to let some major issue blow over before he would return. Then the rumors that he was involved with actual pirates. It wasn't until he met Laughing Bird that he began to turn around. And then when she was gone, he got worse than before. She wasn't sure she could ever forgive him for leaving Rhutshald behind. She was sure that she didn't want Rhutshald to forgive him for it, either. All these years, she told him he was an uncle. She watched Daghbheri sit Rhutshald down and, could just barely hear the chatter of soft conversation between them. Her heart tensed. He was telling him the truth now. Of course he was, that's why he brought him here. It's why she insisted she came with them. Styrseig stood, and wiped the sand off of her legs. She waited for Rhutshald's reaction. The boy turned, and scrambled to his feet. He ran toward her. She could see he was crying. When he reached her, he wrapped his arms around her waist and placed his head against her body. Daghbheri had got up and ran after. He stopped just short of her. She turned and started off for the entrance of The Mists. She rubbed the sobbing boy's back as she guided him along with her, then stopped a moment, looking back at Daghbheri. "Are you happy now?" she asked. He said nothing.

Dogberry has a nine year old boy named Rhutshald. He's being raised by his aunt, unaware that Dogberry is his dad. He thinks of Dogberry as his favorite uncle, the fun one with all the stories of adventure. After the calamity, Dogberry was in no state to raise a child and more or less abandoned him. Now he's trying to reconcile and get back into the boy's life. He's expressed a desire to settle down one day and have some more children, after he gets Rhutshald back, of course. He's talked with Menelwen about it, but with the kind of life they lead now, settling down is out of the question.

I am so disappointed I do not get to rock the bunny suit. Seriously, it would be my Monk glamour.

Every so often, on a day like this, I crave tacos de lenguas. Yeah, that's right. Cow tongue tacos. Done right, tongue is delicious. Do you know what is impossible to get where I live? Tacos de lenguas. Sure, I can get beef, pork, chicken, even shrimp or fish tacos anywhere in this city. There must be some to be had somewhere, but I've yet to find any.
