  1. If it does end up being Sharlayan in origin, I wonder if the quest line will have a similar situation as the AST one - considering Sharlayan's oh-so-friendly approach to any of their potential combat-usable knowledge being spread around.
  2. Speaking of Berrod, gotta throw some kudos to him and his for jumping in to help oversee during the Grindstone on Saturday when we were scrambling due to an initial shortage of staff. And really, as Warren says often enough in the LS - kudos to the entire staff for showing up every week and helping run the beast that the Grindstone has become. It may have been mentioned before, but it's always worth mentioning again - the event wouldn't be able to run as seamlessly as it does without all the volunteer help provided by overseers and healers!
  3. Inb4 someone ICly opens a fast food joint inside a castrum Inb4 that someone ends up being me disclaimer this is a joke this is a joke please don't message me in 3 months' time asking me why i haven't posted any advertisements for VII-XI's grand opening yet Bonus points if you give it a witty name. Like, VII/XI is all well and good... but you could have something like "Eikon-the-Go," "Third Eye-Hop" or "TekDonalds." With Garle-Malts. Gotta have a nice, delicious chocolate Garle-Malt.
  4. That last bit there just makes me think you're tsundere for Squallclothes. And it amuses me. Honestly, though, I'm kinda looking forward to the new Beast Tribe stuff. From the looks of it, it's a sort of "capper" quest line not unlike what happened with the ARR ones - just possibly getting you a new dance instead of a Terminator-esque half-mask. It's probably not related to the last one at all, but it could be an interesting "pattern" if it does. A sort of side-story that is only visible through maxing out all Beast Tribe reps.
  5. As soon as Chachanji noticed the tensing of Virara's form, he was instinctively moving to put a hand on her shoulder - as if that movement alone would halt her in her steps. He was well-aware of her rather straightforward method of dealing with obstacles, though even one less in-tune with her habits would've been quick to notice her intent to simply force their way in. However, unlike such individuals, the Doman Lalafell also knew quite well that should she deign that this was the path she had to take, it would take considerably more effort than a mere staying hand on the shoulder to stop her. Such an act was merely pretense, however, as what would truly keep her from doing such things was her own conscious decision not to - perhaps colored by the thoughts and opinions of the unlikely companion that had accompanied her. "Ah, hold--" He had only begun the motion when she paused of her own volition, tilting her head questioningly towards him. He looked at the gloved hand, paused in mid-flight to her shoulder, and returned it to his side with an awkward chuckle. He felt it necessary to explain himself, even if it was something as simple as "I didn't wantcha ta break th' door down," however the first syllable hadn't even left his lips when something else caught their attentions. The twitching of Virara's ears were mirrored by Chachanji's own, like two hares overhearing the crackling brush beneath the paws of an oncoming fox. The first thought that came to Chachanji's mind as the Hyur approached was of Bozu - the large, quiet man that Virara seemed rather fond of. No great surprise, considering it was picking the emptiness monk's knowledge that had started them on this trek to seek the Kuze Group to begin with. And that has still taken some considerable effort and wheedling in order to get the information out of him. A man who had apparently fallen from the Sea of Clouds - according to Gogonji's testimony - and survived such an ordeal, and yet he was wary of these people. Such thoughts unintentionally put up the boy's hackles, and he flinched a bit at Virara's sudden question. "A-ah, m-mebbe th' place is jus' built like tha'?" he ventured as the man approached, scratching idly at a rosy, freckled cheek with a gloved finger. "At least 'e saw us before ya let us in yerself..." His unintended chiding drifted into awkward silence as the Hyur drew closer, not wanting to sour any goodwill by alerting the supposed greeter to the near-breaking and entering that had almost occurred. Though, any conversation he may had replaced it with would've been cut short in any case once he got a better look at the man's visage. While Bozu had apparently suffered a great fall no worse for wear, this man's face looked as if he had suffered a similar ordeal much less favorably. And landed face-first into a well-stocked armory for good measure. Not that Chachanji would voice such thoughts - both due his desire to not cause undue friction and the simple reason that doing so would just be rather mean - but his moment of surprise was given away by a widening of violet eyes and a brief downturn of his chapped lips. If the man's eyes marked his reaction as he glanced between the pair of Lalafell at his gates, it was overshadowed by Virara's own response - his gaze lingering more on her than on him. The sympathy-raising atrocity that was his face made reading any real emotion difficult, even to someone as empathetic as Chachanji. Though, perhaps he was also well-trained in keeping his feelings masked to further stymie such attempts. Not that the friendly little Doman would consider such a thing, nor the darker reasons why one would want to keep their emotions under such careful wraps. Instead, all he saw was a fairly friendly groundskeeper with unfortunate features stuck with the task of answering the front gate in this chilly Lominsan weather. So, when the man moved to let them in, Chachanji felt it ill-advised to keep the Hyur waiting on them. He returned the nod with one of his own before glancing to Virara. "Well, um... shall we go? Dun wanna keep 'em waitin' if'n they know we're 'ere, right?"
  6. Chachanji shifted a bit uncomfortably as he looked over the strange amalgamation of architectural designs. Not due to any particular understanding of the aesthetics at play here, but more in a sycophantic reaction to the general sense of unease that just seemed to pervade the place mixed with a basic discomfort from the biting breeze. He was dressed well enough for it, but given the situation they might possibly be dealing with, he would have to have been an absolute fool not to have some manner of protection at the ready. Not that one would be able to identify the armor at a glance - it was a design made out of necessity during the incident with the crimson-earringed rogues a few moons back. Clothing that hid a thin layer of high-quality chainmail underneath, a level of misdirection that was highly uncommon for such a straight-forward Lalafell like Chachanji. However, after attempted poisonings, attacks on his person, and even arcane hypnosis, one had to forgo their scruples a little in order to survive such altercations. Though, what bothered the little Lalafell about the results of such actions was a little more intangible than just having concealed chain sewn into his clothing. But those were thoughts for another time, and he was forced to press them down rather than dwell on them - what mattered was the here and now. At his back, strapped in the usual manner, was an oversized hammer that had come to be Chachanji's trademark - though, in truth, it was a tool in keeping with the Gegenji family tradition. This one was, again, a divergence from the norm however. His usual hammer had been left at the smithy, as it was a tool and he intended to keep it as such. The protective hand-guard and armor-piercing spike on the reverse of this one marked it more a heavy warhammer, though the finer details were hidden within its snap-sheath - leaving only the forearm-sized head visible. It was a weapon that seemed more appropriate in the hand of a Roegadyn than a Lalafell, but Chachanji had proven on multiple occasions that he could handle such things surprisingly deftly given his stocky and diminutive form. "'s defin'tely a fittin' place, I 'spose," he murmured in response to Virara's initial announcement. She was always rather terse with words, but he was rarely left wondering what she meant - though whether it was due to her ability to transmit intent succinctly or his own empathetic nature or some combination of the two was left uncertain. Or perhaps he simply took her words and intentions to mean whatever he thought them to mean, which could explain the lengths he had gone to seek to befriend her and show her a gentler path that deviated harshly from the teachings of her merciless Master. A highly-trained pugilistic assassin and a stalwart armorsmithing pacifist - they made for quite the odd pair. And a pair that would remain as such for the course of this venture, as he shook his head in response to her follow-up. "I came this far, y'know? I ain't givin' up on ya now." Which was a given truth, if one knew Chachanji well enough. Like Virara, he had a stubborn streak; but his was more in his almost childish desire to protect people, especially those closest to him. The former had resulted in a rather odd secondary goal for the smaller Lalafell as well, another reason to be at her side on this trip. While he understood Virara's fear and repulsion of the Tsuchigumo - he had been there when she had been taken and had participated in driving it off - the Kuze group's assertions to the earth spider worthlessness via their strange Hyur contact had kindled a strange desire to try and help the thing. Everyone else seemed to want it dead, thinking that it didn't belong and had no place in this world... and that tugged at his stubbornly protective nature. He was here to help Virara seek closure with the issue, but at the same time he sought to give a second chance to the very creature that had scarred her so. It was an illogical dichotomy that seemed to entertain the Kuze group just as much as it likely bothered Virara. Not that she had spoken too openly about it, since she begrudgingly admitted that this was in Chachanji's very nature to behave. And one of her most adamant demands of him was to never change who he was. And so here he was. "So, um... do we jus' knock? Ring a bell?" he questioned, looking over the front gate with a canted gaze. "Though, I'd figger given th' design'a this place, they prolly already know we're 'ere. Still, can't hurt ta be polite 'bout it."
  7. "Ah, yeah, they're 'round 'ere. I can give ya a couple good ones if'n ya'd like - ya get to know th' smiths outside yer field'a expertise pretty quicklike, y'know?" the little Lalafell added, scratching at his cheek. He blinked when Yheli referred to Zhara as a 'worker', though, the confusion apparent on his face. "Oh, um... she ain't really a 'worker'? She's... ah... k-kinda me girlfriend 'n likes ta help out 'round 'ere." It was a bit of an awkward subject, so Chachanji was more than happy to change the subject - which Virara seemed more than willing to provide with her question. It wasn't that he was embarrassed or ashamed of his relationship with Zhara. It was just he was well-aware of the stigma against interracial relationships, plus a lurking concern about how his folks would react to her at the Starlight dinner in a few suns. "Well, protectin' 'gainst beasts... y-yeah, I 'spose tha'd be akay," he murmured thoughtfully, rubbing at his chin. "Still, I'd kinda wanna know what me weapon is gonna be used fer - 'n lotsa folks like usin' 'em on other folks. Which I dun like. So it's a... matter'a character, I 'spose? I'd hafta feel like I really get 'n trust th' person ta make a weapon fer 'em." He rubbed at the back of his neck. "Papa was kinda th' same, y'know. Sure, 'e'd make generic weapons 'n stuff fer people - includin' th' Garleans... but if'n ya wanted 'is good stuff ya had ta get 'im ta like ya. Or do some sorta grand errand fer 'im, dependin' on 'is mood," he continued, as if that exonerated his decision. "I 'spose if'n I get better at... y-y'know tampin' down th' edge on me weapons 'n stuff, I could start doin' tha' too... I dunno, though." The Doman's gaze followed his fellow Lalafell's to the Miqo'te as Virara questioned her integrity. Despite his overall good nature, he did take a moment to sort of look her over - gauge her somewhat. After all, he was putting a rather dangerous tool into her care. "W-well, she seems fine ta me, I think?" he responded in the end, scratching at his cheek idly as he mused on the matter openly. "I mean... she seems ta be puttin' a lotta thought in how ta use it in th' proper way - gettin' a good mitt ta avoid personal injury 'n a stronger cuttin' board so she dun cut inta anythin' she shouldn't in th' kitchen. 'sides, she seems ta want ta get a sword made - wouldn't tha' be a better choice ta use as a weapon than a kitchen knife?" He folded his arms over his surprisingly burly little chest - a rather un-Lalafellin bit of his physique - as he continued. His attention was affixed entirely on Yheli now. A surprisingly intense, yet still kind of kicked-puppy-dog-ish stare locked onto her. "'s-sides, ya wouldn't do somethin' like tha' wit tha', knowin' what ya do, right?"
  8. Where has this game been all my life? You will believe this, until you realise no addons, and thus no MRP : < There's flaws as well! But the RP tag does help immensely. People tend to only use it when they are actually IC though! What is... very hopeful in turn as well. And most folk put some information about their characters, however limited, in their search info. And there's always the RPC wiki! But you can't expect people to read that before/while RPing with someone. But it's nice to have. ...whats MRP? Manufacturer's Retail Price.
  9. You can roll from 0-999 using the /random command. Just type that in and you'll roll a number! It's frequently used in a lot of the competition-style events just to keep everyone on a somewhat level playing field, horribly RNG luck notwithstanding. And there's various statuses you can set yourself as in-game. Online, Do Not Disturb, AFK, Looking for Party, and so on. One of the more recent updates added a "Roleplayer" status you can set yourself as so people will know you're looking for RP.
  10. It should be noticed that an "alchemist type" would be very easy to play since there is an Alchemist crafting profession in the game! Complete with ALC-specific outfits. So you could easily mix and match conjury (or arcanima or astrology) with surgery and/or alchemy however you'd like to present your character's healing abilities. Don't be afraid to have some fun with it, too - I'm pretty sure we've had FFT Chemist-style types who just throw potions at people and people with healing bullets for their MCH guns.
  11. I'm like 99% sure they aren't connected. SE is just reusing names. Like if we went to Illisabard and the Garleans had a city named 'Midgar' I wouldn't expect to canonically find Cloud running around if that makes sense. I think there was a dev statement saying exactly that. While it's using the name, we're not likely to be seeing Ivalician races and stuff. Unless they're enemies, since technically we wouldn't be playing them... hm. Really? I thought I heard the opposite somewhere, that there was a connection between Ivalice and Hydaelyn. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find where I heard that. Might have been from one of Mr. Happy's videos or some article. Stated by our very own Sounsyy! It's not completely ruling it out, but it's also warning not to assume we're getting the bunnyfolk just because the raid has Ivalice in the title. She goes on to even suggest that it might actually be about the Ascians. There's a good quote from Fernehalwes there too: So, I guess it's more or less a wait and see and don't get your hopes too high sort of thing?

  13. I think that's just the Doman dress outfit on a Lancer/Dragoon.
  14. "I-I'd rather ya didn't," little Chachanji murmured, rubbing at the back of his neck as Yheli examined the blade with a careful eye. "I was jus' warnin' ya ta be careful wit it 'n stuff, y'know? It really could cut through a board if'n ya let it." He blinks as she starts listing off the precautions and even leans forward a little in open curiosity as the Miqo'te starts sketching out a board along with materials and dimensions. His expression twists into one of thought as he looks it all over, and his brow furrows only more when she hands the papers to him. "U-um... did ya want me ta make this?" he queries, holding the papers up to emphasize his point. "I mean... I could prolly make th' gloves, it'd only be fair 'n its somethin' 'm sure I could do... but I dunno 'bout glasswork 'n tha' sorta stuff. Ya'd need ta find someone else ta make th' board. A goldsmith mebbe?"
  15. I'm wondering if it'll just be a sort of DRK-comboish thing. Like, you HAVE your melee ability jump-in ability from the get go and can use it whenever? But, like using Dark Arts, if you use a spell or a chain of spells, it boosts the damage of it significantly. ... Or maybe something like Greased Lightning where you build "spellchain" stacks and that boosts the damage of the melee hit depending on how many stacks you've gotten. I dunno. Just ideas.
  16. I would assume, though, that it will have access to a combat rez and (if still existent in the new CC skill setup) some manner of healing like Cure. So while it obviously won't be a hybrid - the game isn't really set up for that - it might still be able to do some pinch healer-work much like a SMN can.
  17. Up until now Virara's method of fighting mages has been simply to get in their face and punch them in the diaphragm so they can't chant or focus enough to channel aether. With a sudden renaissance in melee abilities, I imagine spellcasters in general will write their spells as faster than previously characterized even at the risk of inconsistency. I suppose a new method will be necessary. Amusingly, Chachan's new combat technique still works here: break their stuff. Can't do your casties or your stabbies if your fancy rapier is busted.
  18. Fair enough! As mentioned, Chachan could probably end up in the Gridanian area easily enough - he has a friend (who's a healer as well!) who lives out that way now. So he could bump into Mimi at some point during that. Or, if she's in Ul'dah or Limsa... well, he's a smith so he might not be helpful on the ingredients part... but his helpful nature could result in him helping her find her way to said ingredients or just helping her around if she seems lost in those cities! Or if the rumors involve any equipment he could potentially ID to help out. A worn dagger or some other memento if it falls in his wheelhouse. Plenty of options, really.
  19. That's just the way of things, really. HW brought a flood of suddenly DRKs and MCHs and ASTs. How many stick around will ultimately be the staying point, both in PvE and in RP. Besides, we still have potential other jobs waiting to be revealed - with how much hype people are having for Samurai supposedly "being confirmed"... you might see more of them than RDMs come the next expansion should it be true.
  20. As a Doman Lalafell and generally goodboy, Chachanji might make for a good buddy. He's the sort that likes to help people, but he can be a bit timid himself... so I dunno if he'll have that oomph to get through her shyness. It's something that could happen, though! He's usually around Ul'dah or Limsa, though... so I'd have to finagle a reason for him to be out in the Shroud if she doesn't venture too far from there.
  21. I was using that mostly as a joke. You'll obviously want to use something a little more engaging than just a glance, but the main point is just that - engaging the other person somehow through talk or emote rather than just sit there in silence expecting the other person to make the first move. And certainly not to get upset when you don't get engaged as the player mentioned in the OP did.
  22. This is what I think as well. Mine will most likely be an Arcanist experimenting with swordplay and combining the two, should Red Mage be "WoL only". Sounds like what I was debating with Gogon - except replace the straight sword with his swordcane. Well, that's if I decide to have him go that route. I had another angle with him I was going for a bit as a sort of Arcanist 2.0/Calculator route... but that's kind of been left idle for a while. So I'd have to figure which route I want him to go.
  23. MMM. Dat Red Mage. SMN has been my DPS of choice for Gogon for a while... but I think we've found the replacement. I've always loved RDM as a class - and mained it in FFXI - so I'm super excited to see its incarnation here. Plus, as I've mentioned in a couple places... I used to joke a few months back about Gogon's cane being a sword cane. With a gem in it for potential spellcasting if he decided to use it as a focus instead of his tome. And now we have a job that has a gem being attached to a sword for spellcasting. Still enough of a different thing, but I'm tickled by the similarities.
  24. I don't know if I mentioned it in here or not, but while I wouldn'tve minded if they added a new race (I still think the Viera designs that were shown way back were adorable), I also don't mind if they put that focus elsewhere since adding a new race and somehow fitting them into the story seems like quite a bit of effort. I also wouldn't mind if they allowed for more customization and whatnot for the current races, but I unfortunately don't see them doing that either since people will complain about the lack of ability to utilize more sliders and whatnot without giving everyone a free Fantasia (which I suppose they could do, since those are often included with the special edition of every FFXIV release to date as far as I know). Ultimately, I think the focus will just remain on whatever new jobs they're bringing and the story and regular content to be displayed in Stormblood. Which isn't too bad, really. The new jobs will likely shake things up a bit anyway, and more races and customization to races can always be added down the line.
