Management Update #15 http://68.media.tumblr.com/5bb6b6a69938ff785593ff8fcee9037b/tumblr_inline_ovzj4aYRNi1trt837_500.png[/img] After applying, please continue to try to reach out to Avelyn Firestone in game, or even message us through our Tumblr if this is not an option (she can hardly be online 24/7 after all)! We’ve been trying to contact several people in regards to their application and IC interviews, but either people do not reply to us in game despite being messaged several times (we do check for AFK tags), or just don’t seem to be online all that much. Our community is ran by a handful of individuals, and we simply don’t have the time to constantly chase after people when we’re online (we too like to roleplay and play the game after all). So please try to contact us after applying! Either contact Avelyn Firestone in game, or poke our Tumblr. We don’t mind it if people feel the need to contact us several times either, we rather keep people well-informed instead of no communication at all! Thank you for you cooperation! ~ The Management

discussion [Help/Opinions] Changing characters/accounts
Virella replied to voidVirago's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
SE or Microsoft won't do anything about this. I've seen similar threads on Reddit, and they were all like "Your problem, make a new account." I'd honestly don't know what advice to give you. Unless your father wants your character deleted, I'd just keep them? Maybe when he isn't playing you can still log onto those characters, while in the meantime you level them up again on another, new account? I don't think anyone is going to get their panties in a twist if you changed their last names or something. Doesn't solve the issue you can't go on Balmung though. That said, I believe your father's account can at least RAF you, so that's something to keep in mind to when making a new account! To be fair, I'd have a chat with your father about it and see what he wants you to do. -
All the advice I can offer you off is perhaps to make your character a lot less complicated? It is not so much their background what makes them interesting, but more so the roleplay! I feel you might be stabbing yourself really badly in the foot by wanting to be so many things at the same time? Especially because this is your first roleplay character on FFXIV! Maybe something like... "Hey, he's a Xaela dude from the Steppes, he is a Warrior (they got their own version of the Inner Beast, the Warrior questline touches upon that) and he likes to travel, learn and explore" is a lot easier to work with? Once more, your character, but perhaps giving him a lot easier concept/background might be wiser until you're more familiar with roleplay in MMOs/FFXIV?

As far as I know, the player who ran that linkshell has quit playing the game!

Are you asking people how magic works? Because I'm pretty sure magic is still fantasy and not something people can explain beyond what they did. I think Sounsyy and Franz provided all the lore we got on it, and this is what you have to make do with. It's a fantasy setting, you're not going to get all the answer you seek because simply at one point people can't explain it any more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

With SE adding instances back, we've chosen instance 2 for the remembrance! Hope to see you there this weekend! -
I just try to put it in her search info and just toss my hands up and go "good genes" or something like that

Actually about that... I'm not completely sure? One of the two aforementioned Shaman roleplayers asked Koji at Fanfest if we would see Ala Mhigan shamans come Stormblood, he said yes. He might have implied that the few Conjurer NPCs we have are the Shamans my friend asked about, but I somehow doubt that? Of course I don't have any proof of that, beyond just having to take my word for granted. Not to mention they scrapped the whole Oracle deal for the Ala Mhigan class. So who knows they might meant to be the Oracle class before it got shafted in favour for Red Mage. What makes me really sad because man, I love spellcasters, but eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
There's Ala Mhigan shamans, conjurers and surgeon-esque Ala Mhigan NPCs to be found. Shamans were CNJ in 1.0, and in a ARR in the Monk questline they still appear to be conjurers. Shamans have little lore about them. But most roleplayer I've known have been pretty creative with it. The whole two of them. :^) However, there's nothing stopping you from being any of the ingame classes ultimately, provided you come up with a how and why for your character!
-
Monk as we see the job in game, are all based on the Fist of Rhalgr ^^! We've seen Miqo'te as Monk as well during the questlines. I'd suggest checking Sounsyy's lore compilation to help you out. Also I'm on Balmung, so I got no clue about any other servers!
-
Both jobs and character race combinations make very much sense, so don't worry about that. As far as Monks go? We haven't seen an au ra represented as Ala Mhigans, but all the other races are fair game as far as we know! You don't have to be a highlander to be a Monk though. Roe is completely fine as well. Yes, the Little Ala Mhigo NPCs are very pissed off with you, at the start of the MSQ. They really don't like 'outsiders'. They ease up over time though. But even if you finished the SB MSQ, some are still very pissy with you, whereas other's are not. Honestly, my vague guess that next patch(es) will go in who is and isn't a 'true' Ala Mhigan in the eyes in the groups of certain Ala Mhigans, and internal conflict happening due to that. Roleplayers however do heavily touch upon these topics, of that I can assure you. (Heck, Ave yesterday had a facepalm moment when she had to explain a younger Ala Mhigan why she hated nobles, and started to rant about 'ffs youngsters don't know our history') I haven't played through the SB MSQ as a non-highlander yet, but I haven't notice them being nicer to my character? When I get around doing it on my Roe, I will let you know though. The Temple of the Fist NPCs involve do have a bit different dialogue though, if your character is a Monk. Or so I think? But that is about it. During the MSQ, if you play it as a Monk, no one seems to bat an eye at you as far as I could tell. But that might be to blame that it's too hard for SE to give every class a completely different storyline while going through the MSQ (not to mention swapping jobs ect would make it a pain for them). If I recall something, I will let you know though.

I only done it purely with friends, because I know we can write characters who fit IC together. Or not. My biggest blast regarding pre-arranged relationship was a marriage between two characters who would prefer to strangle to other, while keeping up to be the perfect loving couple in public. That was a blast. It was far from romantic though, but it was a pre-arranged marriage? So I guess it sort of counts? Hells if I know. However I never seen the appeal of it with strangers. For the reasons some people gave above. But I guess if people are just focused on romance, perhaps it the most honest to not lead people on so to speak? Might as well be clear that you're just looking for lovey dovey roleplay, and have zero interest in anything beyond that? In the end though, I do remain a bit sketched out by these type of threads, because they often are red flags in disguises (see OOC clingy behaviour ect). But that might just be me, and I wouldn't hold it against anyone if they had a different view or opinion about it. As someone said above, it's not likely you're going to roleplay together anyhow, so eh.

Yeah, some people can get over the fact this is not real life, I'm sorry to give this huge revelation to you. Snark aside, the point I'm making is that you're dealing with a gathering of a people who - by nature - tend to be shy, reserved, and afraid of stepping on toes. Sure, not everyone in the culture is like that, but it's a known thing. Also, someone's personal nature - especially considering something like stepping into the unknown or approach to potential conflict - is not something they can easily turn off. Some can, many can't. That's bullshit. Utter and complete bullshit. Roleplayers aren't just shy people. To say to is fucking absurd. It's the dumb American PC culture what just rules on Balmung. THEE MUST NOT OFFEND ELSE I WILL DEMONISE THOUUUUUUUUUUUUU. American culture is predominant on a US server? American PC culture, yes. Because other games I've roleplayed before this 'you must not offended anyone ree' shit became all the rage, US people weren't as fucking terrified to just roleplay with randoms in the open. It's like ???? What happened to you guys. You used to be so cool, and not give a fuck, and just roleplay. Now this idiocy is seeping into roleplay as well. And on Balmung, is just so fucking easy to see. Unless we somehow, gathered all the US social outcasts and shy people, what I doubt???? But whatever, I'm done. Just roleplay, instead of whisper people constantly. Like what the ass, no one is out to get you if you DARE TO INTERRUPT THEM IC, except for a few butthurt divas. Once more, grow a spine and get over yourselves that everyone is going to be mad at you for daring to join in their public roleplay.

So nerds should stop being nerds. Got it. Yeah, some people can get over the fact this is not real life, I'm sorry to give this huge revelation to you. THEE MUST NOT OFFEND ELSE I WILL DEMONISE THOUUUUUUUUUUUUU. @Zhavi The fucking point I'm trying to make is that it's not rude to just come up to people and roleplay. It's goddamn roleplay, not running into their irl marriage and shitting on their table.

So nerds should stop being nerds. Got it. Yeah, some people can get over the fact this is not real life, I'm sorry to give this huge revelation to you. Some people can see this is a hobby, and not themselves. JEEEZ. Some people can distance themselves from all that. It's really just Balmung who has this retarded culture. Man, I can't imagine how sad my D&D group would be if I would need to like kiss people's asses and ask for permission 24/7 to say or do something IC.
-
But why would I ever give the OOC rundown, or anyone, for that matter. Their character's weren't there earlier? Let them run into an awkward, wrong moment. It happens in *gasp* real life as well. That's immersion shattering stuff broheim. Sure, I'm glad to go "Oh they have x in their hand, or you can see x" if they step into the scene, but I'm sure that can be emoted out as well. Like get out with this dumb culture of "ermgerd best not step on people's toes". We're all a bunch of nerds, doing the same nerdy shit. Stop being so shy, so overly polite, so reserved, and so afraid to insult people. I've always been an advocate of you don't have to roleplay with people you don't like. Just shoo them off IC, don't seek them out if they don't approach you. Simple as that. Like is that heartbreaking to just tell someone IC "Not now." Or move away IC. Or just go "Oh, I'm sorry, we're having a private conversation" IC. That's ALSO ROLEPLAY YOU KNOW. Just because your characters don't want to be interrupted, doesn't mean the player minds it???? Can we drop this attitude that the player is the character??? If Ave shoos someone off, doesn't mean I suddenly hate their guts. They might have just caught her at a wrong day. Jolly gosh, negative interactions are a part of roleplay as well. Grow some balls and tell people to fuck off IC if you don't want them to be there IC. That's roleplay for you. (Heck, I even did it with the weirdo who was in his slutmog. Even if I didn't agree with a single fucking bit what he was doing. Partly because I had no clue how to make Ave respond onto someone being there, but not really being there, so she just gone "okay friendo" and just left. ITS NOT THAT HARD JESSSSSSSUS)
-
Okay guys. You can all ERP in party chat, because that's private, you don't want people to see it, nor do you have any desire of other people walking in that for a myriad of reasons. Maybe apply that logic too to any roleplay you don't want other people to see? It's that simple.
-
Nah bruh, he literally flew up. We were there for hours already. Sat himself next to us. Gone fishing in his slutmog. Then decided to go IC after an hour by suddenly stopping, changing his gear, and starting to talk IC. That's not wallflowering. That's being an asshole. Like dude. Go fish IC next to us. But at least do it goddamn IC, or give some hint you're roleplaying. Because if you're sitting there in your slutmog, without any emotes, I'm just going to assume you're eavesdropping while doing your fishing for precious gil. So we go back to, wallflowers must be tended to, and people must be roleplayed at constantly. Fuck no, this server has tons of PvE folk who have no desire to RP. That's why that bloody RP tag should be used a lot better. And no, before you ask, he only had some zany lolsly pve thing in his search info with his ilevel. Nothing said he was a roleplayer, at all. Those are the people who shit on roleplayers immersions. Not the random people who walk up to other roleplayers IC.
-
Iffff people got their RP tags on, and aren't RPing in party, it's all fair game to me. Else roleplay in party, keep RP tag off, or even better, shoo off to a place no one can run into you. Like man, I don't get this dumb roleplay 'culture' on Balmung that you cannot interact with people, because else it would be impolite. If there's one thing I miss, it is that I could just walk up to whatever damn group I found, and people would RP back at me. At least they would shoo my character off IC if they couldn't be arsed with them at that point at time. But here on Balmung you get OOC snark for being 'rude' in whispers. Because you dared to interrupt the flow of their apparent private chatbox in /s and /em. HOWEVER. I hate people going IC when it is convenient for them. I legit had someone just fly up next to me and a group of people. Started fishing. Didn't say a thing IC, until we we're about to leave. THEY SUDDENLY STOPPED FISHING, and got IC. Like dude, woman, whatever, don't do that???? You even clearly saw we were wrapping up, and now you decide, after an hour or lurking, to just chip in. THAT isn't cool to me. But at the end of the day. Do what floats your boat. I'm just not going to be the biggest fan of people who treat /s and /em as their personal chat for roleplay. Just use party or something instead. And keep your roleplay tag off. Tadaa, issue solved. :L Just use the RP tag if you want to be approached, done.

One correction: construction of Baelsar's Wall began in 1562, which was roughly 15 years ago. Construction finished on the wall some time before 1572, based on resistance dialogue and the fact that tunnels had long since been under construction under the wall to get around it in the 1.0 version. Hope this helps! Oops my sleepy head got that wrong. Thank you for fixing that up!
