  1. Balmung is open now (at least as of 4:00 PST) which is weird, I thought they didnt open until tuesday mornings? Maybe they really are loosening restrictions. Rerolling a lvl 1 standby alt because I thought of a better name orz
  2. welp anything that can be handed out on a massive level for fun (either clothes or even snacks relevant to the patron being celebrated? since all the stones can't be in cold areas! ) either way, i'll be more than willing to help collect mats (this includes shards/crystals o3o ) We'll do that ! You're adorable, thank you ! For the clothing thing, my character could potentially have pulled off going without winter gear because she's had a lot of experience with cold temperatures, but I OOCly feel embarrassed going to an event looking unprepared and in low lvl crappy looking beginner gear. If I had my main on Balmung I would totally donate crystals and other mats as needed. I just thought of something neat- what if someone made a charity drive IC LS to connect crafters and gatherers to make clothing for events like these?
  3. Precisely this, I don't even play male characters and I was genuinely disappointed when I noticed that girls could wear female and male wedding clothes, but males couldn't wear the bridesmaid clothing. Like we don't even need to delve into social justice to be bummed at this, it still sucks to see a bunch of characters get so one-sided-ly locked out of options. And of course if one does delve into social justice they would find even more good reasons to be bummed.

    hello

welcome it's nice to see new people keep joining. I've only been here a week, so we can both be new together- I'll keep an eye out for L'seoira when I'm on!
  5. welcome I'm new myself so I can't offer much in the way of connections, but if you just want someone to talk to or do casual rp, feel free to friend me (or I just might friend you hehe). I have a duskwight elezen Lysiette Noirteaux who at this time hasn't met any wildwoods besides gridanian npcs, which are known for being not that friendly to duskwights. She should totally get to interact with a wildwood interested in integration, because right now she's painting them all with the same brush and needs to expand her horizons (forcibly, preferably with a rocket launcher)
  6. er, I'm sorry if I contributed to this argument with my post ;-; I know in WoW you basically needed alts, but I meant that also no one would look twice at an excessive amount of alts. And I understand seeing the 'open balmung' threads as annoying, since there are (albeit inconvenient) ways around it. In addition, I can acknowledge that some of the posts by hopeful RPers can sound a little dramatic, heck I felt a little dramatic when I was first trying to get into Balmung. The posts I was specifically referring to are more mean spirited than I think plain annoyance should excuse though, and often have the idea behind them that an alt's character data, even when not being played has the same server drain as a person actually logged on a character. Near the end of the thread, it gets quite hostile when if they were only annoyed at seeing the thread, you would think they would just ignore and let it die. So yeah, I agree with Xenedra. I really didn't mean to add ammunition, making you guys upset with each other.
  7. I guess that's possible, assuming sleep paralysis can happen as you're partially up? Cause it wasn't like I went from that to waking up again, it was seamless, so I'd definitely gotten half up in the real world. I'll post the other more recent time it happened and maybe you can tell me if it still fits? it wasn't scary but it was weirder- like a really dumb creepypasta. My alarm woke me up so I grabbed my phone to turn it off. Only it wouldn't unlock for some reason ("some reason" in reality was probably that half asleep people aren't good with touch screen unlocking mechanics) at that point, a person beside me said "Oh sorry, that's my fault. Hold on, I'll fix it for you." And I just kinda tried to muffle the alarm noise under my blankets as they 'tried to fix it'. Then, the alarm did pause (probably went to snooze or something), the person said something like "there, it's good." I went to unlock the phone again and was suddenly both surprised and confused that it was my phone and not "theirs". That's when I realized that the person was not actually there and hadn't been real. I just kinda kept staring stupidly at my phone for the longest time after that.
  8. I don't have insomnia, but I do occasionally get super weird and thankfully short lived half-asleep, half awake dream states. Probably the worst/most interesting one: One time I woke up in the middle of the night, started to pull into a sitting position, when I saw movement behind my cabinet (it had been pulled in the middle of the room because we were going to paint the walls) There was a man with indistinct features (it was dark + dream-like state, so I didn't question it) that sharply and distinctly said "don't move or I'll shoot you". Needless to say I froze in my half-up position, petrified for a full five or so minutes. Eventually, I whispered something along the lines of "can I sit up?" and upon not getting a response, slowly came to the realization that it had been a dream/hallucination hybrid of some kind.
  9. What gets your character(s) all flustered and embarrassed? And what is their reaction to said embarrassment- do they flush madly? Do they get sulky? Snappish? The purpose of this thread? No one is completely without shame and therefore neither should your characters. It might be something small, or it might be something very broad, but there's more than likely something! -- My entry: Synglona has always been somewhat embarrassed by her voice. It's a bit nasally and too high and/or squeaky for a Roegadyn of her size. There isn't much to be done about that, so she tries to just ignores it. Except when she laughs. Her laugh is very loud and obnoxious and usually accompanied by even louder snorting. Her family has likened it to the death throes of various sea life, and frankly she agrees with the assessment. Thus, she is intensely mortified when it happens in public, and will generally apologize profusely when it happens and refuse to meet anyone's eyes for the next minute.
  10. wow, the main forums are.. far more hostile to RP than I imagined. I never remember getting any hate in WoW for having a bunch of alts, heck it was pretty well expected and I wasn't even on RP servers. And still with the idea that alt character data somehow blocks new people form joining in... :dazed: It'd be nice if SE maybe offered free server switches out of Balmung for anyone. Maybe they could actually break down and add an "RP SERVER"/"RP FRIENDLY SERVER" label or something. Because while we need a fair amount of people not RPing in order to drive the economy, it would be nice to have some potential free space for more RPers stuck trying to get in
  11. The Menphina event was pretty neat! Unfortunately I had to leave halfway through in order to lie down cause I was pretty sick, but still getting to go to an event was cool Also, another thank you to Ilwe'ran for gifting me and a few others with coats so we wouldn't look out of place like the lowbies we currently are.
  12. yeah, that's par for the course. My point was just "yes it can feasibly be written into a well rounded character that is interesting" not "yes it can be made into a character that everyone can/should acknowledge" And based on your post, we both can agree on that.
  13. i'm not sure if you wanted a reply for this, but okay. I should have clarified to, any idea can be written if one is serious about it. Obviously, there is no one willing to be serious about writing something like that. And in addition, the ability to write something well is sort of like an exponential graph, difficulty approaching infinity as you approach the asymptote of "nothing to do with canon whatsoever" that being said, Padjal are actually a thing in canon, and imho while definitely not near 0 difficulty, certainly not near infinite difficulty either. Something approaching infinite difficulty would be like someone trying a weird crossover as you've proposed.
  14. I'm going to preface this by saying I only did the first quest for WHM so I don't know much about it other than only Padjal get to learn it, and that padjal are ridiculously rare/chosen. That, and that one boy padjal was real salty when our MC got the soul crystal/ was allowed to learn WHM I think that in this case, I can apply some lessons I've learned writing fanfiction. That lesson is that content is a heck of a lot more important than ideas. Ideas are dime a dozen, and their terribleness or awesomeness is largely dependent on how you write. The only factor an idea determines is difficulty. A padjal character would be fairly difficult to write well, and if you get it badly people might jump down your throat. Heck, people might jump down your throat anyways. But almost nothing is impossible to write well. I know RP is a bit different, but in stories most characters can be considered sues when you only account for basic impersonal information and not for the way they interact with and are treated by the world. In short, I say go for it. In cases like these with very unique characters, it is important to strike a balance in how integral this unique feature is to the character you are writing. If you make it too unimportant, it will look like you just wanted to add some fancy bells and whistles to a normal character that doesn't need it. Base too much of the character around the feature and they will seem 2-dimensional, silly, or the dreaded, overused "sue-like". Honestly, call me tasteless, but I think interacting with a padjal under some kind of masquerade or glamour could make for some interesting RP
  15. Hey, you're like the reverse of me lol. I've been playing the game since June or so, but I'm super new to RP. I've only been on Balmung since beginning of this week though, so I'm dirt poor as well orz. It's my first RP event too (first ever actually), I'll keep an eye out for you. Of course, the character I'm taking is only lvl 20, so I'll have to get there with the fallgourd float escort at 4
  16. in regards to the above discussion, I always thought that Ishgard just had approximately the same problems as Gridania, only stronger? Like I always got a similar, although more zealous feel to Ishgardians as compared to Gridanians. I mean, Ishgard has that big religious thing but if you replace that with 'the elementals' you can see the parallels.
  17. This is excellent, I wasn't going to go because both my characters are far too low and poor to afford appropriate clothing. But I might just have Synglona take you up on this one
  18. I haven't heard anything on the subject of applicable races either, which is a good thing as hearing nothing implies that any race can have "hearers". The only ingame ones we see are I think hyur and elezen, but that's probably just because Gridania is the nation that primarily teaches/cares about conjury and its almost entirely made up of elezen and hyur (with a few keeper miqo'te) as for if everyone born with the talent ends up becoming conjurers? I think they have to be somewhat in tune with conjury in order for their 'hearing' skill to reveal itself, even if it is an innate talent. This is drawn from Sylphie in the Conjurer plot line, she only starts hearing spirits after she finally starts to work with and actively listen to nature. That being said, I don't think a hearer has to be a well trained conjurer, and they certainly don't have to be an official healer. I mean, no one has to be an official anything if they don't want to. They do probably need to be capable of the very basics of conjury though, if they are actually going to be hearing anything. At the same time, that would mean someone could potentially go through their whole life having the hearing gift and never know about it if they never trained in conjury.
  19. IMO the best thing is consistency. While it sucks that the hours are inconvenient, I believe that "every tues, wed, thurs from 3-5 am PST" is much preferable to random, all over the time openings, even if the random method gave rise to more time open over all. Of course, its based on people logged in, which introduces some randomness, though there does seem to be overall trends. If it's regular, and open for at least an hour (giving you time to go over appearance/push multiple alts) then I don't have a problem with it. Granted, that does create a problem for those who may be at work during the open hours, and can't just take a day off.
  20. teacher you say?? My duskwight lady needs to learn literacy, actually, so this is pretty convenient. Just sent a PM with some details about her .w.
  21. eorzeahoy.tumblr.com It's a new blog, made for mostly character journals and IC ramblings of all ffxiv rp characters, even though for now I'm only talking with my Roe. Still working on a way to write with my elf, given that she's illiterate lol There will be the occasional ooc post, but it will be primarily in-character.
  22. pirate songs, you say? You're pirate music library is not complete without this gem [video=youtube] it also doubles as a piece of totally necessary Canadian culture for you
  23. you would not like me behind the wheels lmao. I hate driving and it scares me, so I'm only comfortable on the road when I have 3 full seconds of space, or in general enough to fit probably 2 cars, the 3rd if they had little room between them. I do go the speedlimit though, just with the buffer. Except when its rainy or icy. I understand why you don't like it, but driving is dangerous and sometimes I don't have the greatest reaction times and creating a larger amount of time to react in makes me feel safer
  24. thanks ovo I just took the randomized names and combined the different sounds I liked together so that I could be relatively assured that it stayed within naming conventions while still being somewhat unique. And don't worry, I can't predict my online times either. Sometimes I stay up till sunlight, sometimes I'm sleeping at sundown. Luckily, people accept being in university as a good enough excuse lol
  25. Another very recent person here! It's nice to not be the only new one- and other than at most a year of forum rp when I was 12, I'm completely new to it. I have a duskwight too named Lysiette Noirteaux, who'd be totally willing to meet another duskwight sometime.
