I think it's supposed to be taken a little more tongue-in-cheek. It's not a question of how comfortable they are. Not every decision in life is based solely on one's sexuality. this, and I think that a lot of guys who play girls might also like the novelty of choosing another gender. Most games without customization for the character will limit you to a male protagonist. So when that customization is offered, maybe a lot of guys also think it'd be neat to play a girl, even if they don't state it exactly that way? While many people are insecure about their sexuality, in this case I don't think it's all that related.

The only lets players I really watch are two best friends, cr1tikal, and vinesauce. For the most part, I don't have the patience for full, multi part playthroughs. I prefer the videos where they've cut the funnier/wittier portions and compiled them into something that's no longer than 20-30 minutes. There are a few exceptions of course, if something is exceedingly funny, but in general I just don't find watching ppl play games entertaining for hours on end. and of course, here's a fantastic video of vinesauce going through a really bad mario knockoff called Superboy (only 4 minutes long!) [video=youtube]

oh, no worries! I put it in the artisan section, thinking it fit with "other media" which in retrospect wasn't a good idea

*casually pretending I didn't just make a poetry thread and post these 2 days ago* Feel free to have a look at some very unskilled but self indulgent babby poems. I'm probably going to make a verse for each of the 12 but I also don't write poetry often. And these are all my character's patron deities which makes them a bit more special to me. Oschon the wanderer Patron of rogues and vagrants The aimless fool with his walking crutch Passing through fields, rivers, mountains, valleys Guardian of the invisible Llymlaen the navigator Lady of the compass, master of the four winds The pirate's patron Holding hands with the sea Leader of the stray Nymeia the spinner Weaver of fate, watcher of stars Binding free will with lengths of thread Overseer of pain and fortune The gagged observer

I somewhat connect levels to my IC character, but that's mostly because I'm pretty new to RP and want something as a base to fall back on. The upside is that I can have a pretty good idea of where my character is in their life, and even as I lvl it's easier to think ICly. The downside is that I don't have as much freedom in what my characters do- they basically all have to be newbie adventurers who tend to wander, otherwise why would they be progressing in battle lvl and warping all over the place? One fun think I have going on is with my duskwight toon Lysiette, she's pretty intelligent and loves learning how to do things which allows her to learn a lot of different things without deteriorating too much in skill. However this also makes her impulsive and irresponsible with her time, deciding to pick up anything and everything interesting to her. To reflect this, I had her join every single class guild, but I don't allow her to get any more than 10 lvls past any other class. This drives the time it takes for me to level her through the roof, and acts as further reinforcement that her intense dabbling makes her mediocre at best in everything (her intelligence is how she's not completely terrible, but it certainly isn't making her shine anywhere) as for how I consider lvl 1s? I've never played DnD (though I've always wanted to lmao) so I always considered lvl 1 to be "has some decent talent/self taught skill but isn't at all refined". Of course, that being said, I have my other character Synglona in several guilds I don't IC consider her joined yet because I wanted to reserve them for later when she WOULD join them. I'm going to lvl MRD so I can crossclass overpower because it's very useful in dungeons, but I'm not sure if she would ever join marauders ICly given how much of Limsa's law enforcement is form MRD guild and the fact that a lot of her family is in pirate jail. So I guess I wanted to say that personally, taking lvls into account is helpful for me as a new RPer but only to certain points.

cant say this has really happened to me since ive been using inventory to convert the whole time and always caught the little page. That being said, I have wasted materia points by melding higher grade materia that exceeded the points max for the gear. That one gives a wrtten warning in bright red, so i dunno what that says about me lol

As frustrating as lag is, I think the campaign is a nice idea. gives people who've run out of sub money a chance to try new content. Its inconvenient for us but there are other things you can do in game and gs will still be around after the week is over while most of the free users will be gone

oh don't worry, I know certain levels of noise can't be helped. Mentally, I completely get it. I know the fault of these reactions are my brain and not "those filthy mouth breathers" or anything. What I'm talking about is a weird sort of disconnect where part of me is completely irrational and the other part understands that food eating is a natural thing, everyone does it, and you can't think worse of them for it (but not able to stifle said irrational part). And yeah, I may not be able to control it but it is more manageable when people make basic efforts to not be loud.

yes. YES. ALL OF IT SO MUCH. You have described a person I live with. But might I add. Oatmeal. Lip-smacking. And demon noodles (instant ramen). When this person eats, I usually immediately reach for anything that can make noise. (Usually computer headset or headphones). ...if I can't think of a good excuse for a song, I put on white noise. Sweet, blissful, white noise. That must suck so much, I can't imagine it. The worst is, if it were just gross and annoying, it would be one thing. But it's never just that. There's that completely out of character intense anger, the actual violent urges (I wasn't actually using hyperbole unfortunately, the dissonance between "I want to watch you cry with pain I inflicted" and "what in the holy eff is wrong with me" isn't fun). The stress of being unable to stop those feelings, unable to focus on anything else, and unable to not listen for the next sound. And the times where it's panic instead are also hell, like sometimes you're just flinching every time you hear it because the urge to react is so strong. My roommates friend last year liked to do the things I described earlier and now I'm wired to despise her voice at all times because there were so many memories of being subjected to that stress and being unable to escape because it was in my room. She came over to eat almost every day during exam season, and I just could not handle it, since my good headphones had broken and there was nothing to block the sound
-
Let me preface this rant by mentioning that I'd never actually follow through on these urges, and I know the thoughts I get are wrong and very unfair to my fellow human, so trust me, I'm not an asshole. But at the same time, I can't really control getting those urges in the first place, short of hightailing it out of there. I guess this is less "why humanity" and more "why brain why". It is still IRL tho, so on topic?

I haven't even tried getting into GS in Balmung. I already know my poor creaking, ancient laptop won't be able to handle it even if I did get in. Besides, neither of my characters have a plausible reason for being there so I'll leave the fun times to my main. Even if it does mean getting bombarded with all the goldbot tells that are so much more noticeable after a week on Balmung (and seriously, I only got one goldbot in the last week and I've been on pretty well all day. Go Balmung)

I don't want to be a bother, but could mine please get moved to in character- multiple? It's meant to be mostly in character after all (for all my RP alts) , with only occasional ooc posts. I mean, if any ooc whatsoever disqualifies me, then okay, it's just that IC is the main focus. I do know the blog is pathetic so far, but I just haven't had many interactions since I'm trying to get to chocobo level.

been watching some older Corner Gas episodes (shh this show is fantastic) , and remembered how relaxing the opening is [video=youtube] also I'm pretty sure I've listened to this song well over a dozen times in a row the past few weeks [video=youtube]

Synglona isn't interested in doing crime because she doesn't like personally inconveniencing people, but she grew up in a pirate family and so has an extremely disinterested view of law and plenty of family contacts in the piracy, black market, and most port/coastal focused crime. She doesn't bother breaking the law much herself, but she has no qualms generally in being a contact or messenger. If that's connected enough to the underground, I'd love an invite too! More shady LS don't really fit her since she's not really directly into shady stuff at this point, but at the same time she is still somewhat involved or at least fairly aware of underground happenings Also, some alternate names could be "word on the street" or "word of mouth"

just unlocked all gold saucer stuff on my main. Racing bird is Quantum Swift, because I've always been interested in quantum physics and such so when I saw that option I had to go for it. I was going to make the second word as related to quantum physics as possible, but then it would be too clunky sounding and obvious. So yeah, Quantum Swift's gonna win some races (hopefully). Calling her Quinn for short.

I only have a choco on my main, and I named it Carue because One Piece is a long time favourite of mine (flaws and all) and because it fit perfectly. I mean... he's literally a duck chocobo

Let's start a thread for anyone and everyone to put in some short poems. No concrete rules, just anything you think sounds nice. And yes, this thread is for bad/inexperienced poetry writers too! I rarely if ever write poetry, so I'll just go ahead and embarrass myself first with these three little guys that popped into my head. I think I like Oschon's best though. -- Oschon the wanderer Patron of rogues and vagrants The aimless fool with his walking crutch Passing through fields, rivers, mountains, valleys Guardian of the invisible Llymlaen the navigator Lady of the compass, master of the four winds The pirate's patron Holding hands with the sea Leader of the stray Nymeia the spinner Weaver of fate, watcher of stars Binding free will with lengths of thread Overseer of pain and fortune The gagged observer -- so yeah, basically I'm definitely all for the prose myself but I figured variety is the spice of life after all, but all I've seen is the haiku thread.

If your character stayed with you for a few days!
Khoure replied to g0ne's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Lysiette would assume I must be some kind of technological expert, because WHY WOULD YOU OWN THINGS AND NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE/REPAIR THEM??? and keep bugging me with questions of how something worked, how do I craft a computer, do I know any guilds she can join for this stuff, can we go try this thing called fastfood, etc etc. She doesn't have any social tact and immediately latches onto anything that seems 'interesting' to her. Synglona on the other hand would apologize profusely for everything and also sit in various corners looking lost. She would try to ply me for conversation after a bit but would be a lot more conscious about it. While she's used to being cooped up on ships, she'd still rather be out and about exploring and only returning for sleep. That is, until she discovered youtube and spends the rest of her time listening to all sorts of music styles and being amazed by the variety -
it depends I guess. In general, since the 'human' race are actually called hyur, I think it would be fair to call everyone humans, since that's what they all overwhelmingly resemble and the term wouldn't actually be hyur-centric. In other places with different races where humans are still called humans, I usually avoid the issue by rephrasing wherever I can, using the term people when applicable, or sentient or mortal races if it fits. Once in a while I've broken down and used the term 'humanoid races', but it sounded rather clunky so I try to avoid it.

that's unfortunately neither here nor there. The problems of the gaming industry are many and varied, and really a subject for its own thread as I can see it getting intensely debated. Right off the bat, you sound a little incendiary about the topic yourself. Besides, at the absolute least you're forgetting about Ubisoft.

it's always pretty funny when that kind of thing happens. Back when I first started WoW (vanilla days), my brother, his name being Benjamin and his nickname being BJ, rolled a Paladin. Inspired by one of our uncle's alts, a priest named 'PopeEddie' or something similar, he named his first character 'PaladinBJ' It was many a year before I realized the obvious albeit immature joke in that. It's especially amusing since he did take this character all the way to lvl cap. Apparently the naming oversight wasn't pointed out to him until sometime in the 20 lvl range, which is honestly actually surprising. So yeah, one time my brother mained 'paladin blowjob' all the way to endgame content.

Celebration of The Lover - Saturday February 21th at 5:00PM Eastern

oh, I didn't know that lol. The only night gear I've ever remembered seeing is in the wvr demimat book (requiring field IIs I think?) which seems pricy and I thought I remembered most dress items being pretty expensive to make, though I forget what the bridesmaids stuff costs now that you can vendor purchase the set. I'll have to check the MB for RP clothes then, I guess because there is so much star lvl vanity clothing recipes that I assumed all vanity clothes were at star lvl and therefore prohibitively expensive to newer players  I never used glamour on my main so I've never paid attention to this kind of thing -
for my duskwight, I frankensteined several of the built in randomizer names into something that looked nice. I literally have a page full of the generated first/last names and a ton of potential combinations This was for two reasons: I didn't trust myself to stay within naming norms while making entirely new names, and two, I didn't want to come across a lot of people with the same first or last name which can happen as it doesn't take that long to start seeing repeats in the randomizer. The first name Lysiette (and I'm actually pretty proud of this one) came from the randomizer names 'Lycelle', 'Reinette', and 'Melisie'. I did try and make sure the parts where the different bits connect seem allowed in the naming conventions. For example, combining Ly and sie I figured was okay because ly follows through with an 's' sound (even if its a c) and sie comes after an 'i' sound, similiar to the 'y' in lycelle. Her last name Noirteaux came from the randomized 'Noirterel' and 'Soilanteaux'. Both halves meet up with a hard 'te' sound, so I knew it wouldn't be too weird. Some combination names I was considering: (first) Nimisie, Aurisie, Nimette, Lychette (last) Soilantoix, Tristelaine, Terreloix, Vilaudefoins. Obviously, since I don't know anything about name meanings, this is all purely what sounds nice phonetically. For my sea wolf, the naming works differently so it was a matter of a)sounds nice on its own b)sounds nice translated and c)has some degree of meaning without being ridiculously on the nose. Synglona means song gatherer, and I named her that because her Dad was the unofficial musician of his pirate crew, and it was his music and singing that attracted her Mom to him in the first place (plus another reason related to the Mom that would be spoilers) thus, Synglona was named with respect to that. her father I named Eyrinebb (wandering fog) because I wanted something not too garbled-looking, and also that reflected that he is a pirate born from a line of pirates without being too obviously pirate-y. For Synglona, I was also seriously considering keltwyb, klynwyda, Eyrilona, Blaetswys, or Hirskrael. Also, even though he doesn't actually exist ingame, one of her brothers is named Swygnthosin (silent gray) though technically that's too many letters (he's in pirate jail anyways so w/e) he's named that because their dad got to name him and he thought he was being clever by a)referencing his own name and b) knowing who the kid is going to be exposed to growing up, he'll probably end up the opposite of silent and therefore it would be a great thing to laugh about later (like naming a black cat snowball). I'm just glad a lot of you seem to be wasting as much or more time as me making names. I always try to come up with great names even when I have no intention of ever RPing, and my siblings get annoyed with me when it takes forever (if I had a dime for every time I was told to "just pick something already" am I right?)
