  1. Yeah, exactly. Hilarious panicked flailing when you're all in consensus is one thing, and "Hi people I don't know, I don't want to learn anything and you can't make me, now let's go do the fight," is another. It is a jerk move.
  2. A long time ago, in a content patch far, far away (read: 3.1 back in the fall of last year), I took my very first crack at Thordan EX just after it came out. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough people who were willing or able to do it, so my SCH friend and I braced ourselves for the worst and ventured into PF. Luckily for us, we found a group! Unluckily for us, it was...less than ideal. TL;DR: SCH friend: "Okay, so did everyone watch the video?" Me (MNK): "Yep." NIN (who died at least twice in every attempt): "Yep." WAR OT: "Yep." Other two DPS: "Yep." Both the DRK MT and the other healer: "We don't want to watch a video. It spoils the experience, so we're not going to look up anything about the fight." SCH friend and I: "" Keep in mind, this was a few weeks after the patch had dropped. We were way out of the "this fight is brand spankin' new because it dropped six hours ago and no one has figured out all the mechanics yet" phase. There was absolutely no reason for either of them to have this kind of attitude about it, especially as the MT and healer. Try as we might, we couldn't convince either of them that refusing to learn what to expect ahead of time was detrimental to the rest of the group. So they got their way while everyone else in the group side-eyed them. Two hours later, we still had not gotten past Adelphel and Janlenoux, and I was bubbling gently while I tried my absolute hardest not to explode into an erupting volcano of rage at their self-righteously willful ignorance. We dispersed for the night, MT and other healer went their merry way in blissful obliviousness, and I promptly called my SCH friend over Skype to screech indignantly about people who knowingly are liabilities to the group but refuse to do anything about it. So yeah. That was fun.
  3. No problem. Honestly, after you see them enough, you stop noticing them.
  4. There's always a spurt of new THM bots right after maintenance. I think they automate the process of making them, but I'm not quite sure how. Tl;dr - No, you're not crazy. It's just a thing that happens.
  5. Steel is a chill, friendly human being with whom I had nothing but positive interactions in the time we've known each other. (If you ever need a dps when you tank things, Steel, you need only ask.) (Edited because I misplaced a comma, whoops.)
  6. Welcome to the RPC and to Balmung. It's good to have you, and I hope you enjoy your time here. As for connections, Arcian is a former resistance fighter turned sellsword turned hired security for an Ishgardian manufactory. If you're not averse, I'm more than willing to brainstorm possible links there, or just a chance meeting if you'd prefer. Do you mind if I hit you up ingame?
  7. Marcellain sounds like a lot of fun, honestly, and I'd love to get some interaction in if you're not averse to the idea. Since my character is frequently in Ul'dah on business (the foundry/armscrafting folks she's employed with have a branch office in the Goblet), perhaps there's a chance the two of them might bump into one another in some capacity. Do you mind if I ping you ingame?
  8. I passed you in Ishgard last night and remembered that you'd posted a topic that I'd somehow missed looking at. Arcian is frequently in Ishgard on business (as well as Ul'dah, but that's another matter); as chief of security for a foundry and armscrafting business, she sort of has to be where her job is. On that note, the Bellworks is currently hunting for contracts and connections, so maybe there's an opportunity for Garrett there. Maybe we can work something out, if you'd like. Do you mind if I hit you up ingame?
  9. YOU. YOUUUUUU. No, but seriously, this person is great, Baby Hands is a gloriously infuriating riot, and I would definitely recommend them for shenanigans. Good to see you again.
  10. Welcome to Balmung, Arkland, and I hope you enjoy your time here! Feel free to hit me up on Arcian Martell if you ever spot me ingame.
  11. Ad Victoriam is the only Garlean LS I'm aware of at the moment, but best of luck in your search. Also points for referencing Operation Paperclip; you made my inner history nerd light up in glee.
  12. I second this Kudos! It was a lot of fun! Thank you, Eliane! We kind of put the scenario on your character's shoulders at the last minute but she held herself with aplomb. I'll third the kudos to these kudos, then. -chuckles- Thank you everyone for just showing up, hanging out, and improvising with style! I was kind of just making it up as I went, but it was really excellent getting to know so many of you some more -- and even meeting new faces! Craziness, but good stuff. You all are awesome. <3 Fourthed. You guys were great, and I really enjoyed myself.
  13. I just worry that my characters and I are boring, and that my writing isn't descriptive or engaging enough. Between that and being nervous about approaching folks in case I am boring, I'm kind of shooting myself in the foot.
  14. Maksim Gorky, Mario Vargas Llosa, Reba McEntire, Lady Gaga, and last but not least, Marina Raskova. March 28th is a pretty cool day, I guess.
  15. I'm pleased to be able to say that Aeon is reopening recruitment on Monday, November 23rd.
  16. Just saw the sketches you did today, and I wanted to pop back in and say thank you. Keep on being awesome.
  17. Arcian

    Good day!

Yes good more Mhigans please. Hey, welcome to Balmung and the RPC. Feel free to catch me ingame if you want to set something up RPwise; I'm generally available whenever. Hope to see you around sometime.
  18. Hot damn, that is some great work. Color me impressed. (Followed, as well.) If Arcian (wiki here, Tumblr with screenshots here) strikes you as interesting enough to warrant a quick doodle, that would be awesome. If not, no worries, but if you ever open commissions, I'd be psyched if you let me know.
  19. Hey there, Valence. The length of our recruitment closures varies, but is usually about a month or two. We plan to reopen recruitment in mid-November, once the initial chaos from 3.1 has died down. We do not have a racial restriction enforced, but more variety is always appreciated. Best, Arcian
  20. Echoing Garalona; I would love to get in on the creative aspects of this, but unfortunately, I am pretty firmly tied to my FC on this character. Unless you allow (frequently-played) alts?
  21. Oh, good, I wasn't totally off the mark then. As for epithets, Arcian has one of those...or had. She ended up discarding it after she left the Resistance, as it was evocative of someone she didn't want to be anymore. Besides, 'Spinebreaker' carries some unfortunate connotations if you're trying to make a positive impression.
  22. To the best of my knowledge, martel is an archaic French word for hammer, and Martell is the Germanic variant. Arcian is someone who leaders point at things (or people) who need to be beaten down; a blunt instrument. A hammer, if you will.
  23. I'll be away next weekend, but I can definitely lend a hand.
  24. "YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!" Waaaaay too many Black Temple clears over my years in WoW.
  25. If you do opt for an Alienware, I would not recommend the 18 (and this is from someone who is currently typing on one). Lots of fan speed and overheating issues, and consequently major fps drop at points. Don't be me, kids. Other folks in this thread seem to have a lot of good suggestions, though.
