I don't know about other jobs, but Solkzagyl wears the Paladin AF2 and Sidurgu the Dark Knight AF2. I seriously doubt they bought it with tomestones. So I'd assume the Esoterics gear are perfect replicas of an unavailable AF (unlike the Mythology gear that was a slightly different replica of the original AF).
-
So, the weapons in all the previews are actually tomestones gear and not relics. I can see almost all those weapons as tomestones gear, as they're not traditional FF weapons. But the Deathbringer, the most iconic DRK weapon, is not a relic? Aw.

A good 90% of the inquisition is either blinded by faith or ax-crazy.

Does your Character aspire to be a Hero?
mongi291 replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
Ophelie couldn't care less. Isaulde... eh. She's a Dark Knight, so she's used to being despised. While she'd love to be considered an hero for what she does, she knows it will never happen. -
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXIII Q&A Update Thread

Oh, now that I read it again, I understood. Somehow I read it as: "that character has a too big head to be just a Miqo'te child." -

LALAQO'TE CONFIRMED! GET HYPE! I must have missed that. Has anyone got a screenshot? -
Ok, let's try to make a constructive post now. No matter what you do, there will ALWAYS be someone that is against it. You CAN be a White Mage: you just need to find a decent, not lore-breaking explanation. Someone has already done that. Heck, I guess that with a bit of creativity, someone could even play a Padjal without actually breaking the lore: just don't expect everyone to be ok with it.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
mongi291 replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
And that time is ALWAYS. Mo deeps. I wouldn't say Vit is useless. I see it as similar to accuracy. Past a certain point, it serves no purpose, as you will survive everything you're hit with and you can use less and less Vit if you use cooldowns optimally. After a certain point in T13 or whatever, you WILL survive that Akh Morn and even the potential AA crit afterward, and then there's no use in having more HP, in my opinion. It is an unfortunate characteristic to have for a main stat that will probably not go away unless they change the parry system immensely and make it the main stat or something, keeping Vit as a secondary. I don't know how they'd do this; I'd just like parry to be better. I don't like to complain in here. I think though that one thing I would prefer is that people don't woundlick quite so much. I've been kicked from parties twice now for pretty innocent, obvious advice like "please use buffs" and "please help burn x." In both of these instances, it was due to a healer or tank that wasd being mentored on the fly by the other two party members, who wouldn't suffer any criticism towards their stagnating friend, becoming a worse player by the minute the more they sheltered them from positive advice for fear of bruised egos. In the end, tanks should keep both VIT and STR accessories, unless they can afford to penta-meld gear and make accessories with both VIT and STR. I can't do the latter (I have something like ~740 gil. :c), but first thing I did when in Ishgard was buying STR accessories for soloing or for pre-made parties. -
This might be a bit off topic, but I think a DRK linkshell (and maybe a FC?) might be a good idea.

What have the moogles done to deserve this much hate other than, y'know, over 9000 quests in Churning Mists? The level 58 DRK quest. I would have liked, y'know, something related to the rest of the DRK questline, instead of some moogles trying to be evil.

If you don't find anyone else, I could do it in a month. Right now I'm on vacation, but by 26th July I'll be back, and I was already planning on creating a Dark Knight character... But you'll have to be patient, as I'll have to create the character and rush to Ishgard. You'll probably find someone else in the meantime, but if you don't, know that I'm available.

I am so torn! FFXIV Dark Knight or not?
mongi291 replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I don't know if this can help, but I used to hate tanking. Then I thought: "I hate tanking... I'm just like a DPS. A weak DPS... But at least I'm not as squishy, and I don't have to hold back to not pull aggro, because, you know, pulling aggro is my job... And I don't have to worry about perfect rotations, I just need to keep aggro... And if I die, I can just blame the healer... Actually, scratch that: I love tanking." -
So, Clemency is affected by attack power. I'm definitely playing PLD again now.

Some people might not have wanted to see the exact text, especially since it is very important to that story. And considering the mod team has requested people keep spoilers hidden, yeah. Edit: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=12146&pid=192641#pid192641 Quoting Melkire here. Uh, I was pretty sure to have put that into a spoiler. Oh well. Epic fail on my part.
-
Oh my God... /shocked Yeah... They may have been introduced in the same expansion, but Ishgard and Au Ra don't really get along.
-
It's not that spoilery, if you don't say the context... Mod Note: Please err on the side of caution when posting direct text or dialogue from the game. Context does not define what is and is not spoiler content. No warning has been given for this post, but future infractions may incur post deletion.

They can. I've taken it from them as a NIN before and I've seen both PLD and WAR do it. Though PLD used provoke. Were they using Dark Arts > Power Slash for massive enmity boost? If they didn't, of course they'd lose aggro. And Provoke doesn't count. By the way I discovered Sole Survivor works on enemies too. That makes it far more useful than what I thought. EDIT: Oh and Carve and Spit grants MP if used while not in Dark Arts (something like 850 MP). That means we'll probably end up using it without Dark Arts while tanking, for MP regen, and with Dark Arts while DPSing, for more damage. As a NIN I didn't take aggro when they did that combo, but the WAR did. Then again, the WAR was level synced the DRK was at cap. Well, a WAR is a WAR. They have the best DPS out of all tanks, and their strongest combo for DPS is their enmity combo too, so that's understandable. Oh and they can handle a few hits, so it's not really a problem if they take aggro. Maybe that's what NIN's enmity control skills are for.

And here I am, who barely tried DRK and now is going on vacation until the 26th of July. At least by the time I get back DRK and MCH will hopefully be buffed.
-
Oh, nice. Is Clemency affected too? Because healing 1500-ish with a 3 seconds cast time would suck.

Well, I didn't think of a better place. I guess I took the "skeleton in a closet" saying too literally. By the way I fixed a few things.

So, after seeing all the lore behind Dark Knights, their powers and their relationship with Ishgardian society, I decided to make a Dark Knight character. But, as usual, I need some help to make sure I don't create a lorebreaking character or a Mary Sue. Here's what I thought so far. ??? (I haven't found a name yet, tbh ) - She is an Ishgardian Duskwight Elezen. She is 24 years old. - She comes from a poor family, and was born in indentured servitude (her entire family was forced into it for an Ishgardian noble due to not being able to repay some debts). - The noble for which her family worked molested her mother. Her father confronted the noble about that, but got killed, when she was just 9 years old. The body wasn't found and it was thought he escaped. - Later on, when she got older (around 14 years old) the noble molested her too, but knowing she couldn't do anything about that, she just tried to ignore him, until... - ...one day, when she was cleaning the house, while the noble was away, she opened his private closet in his room, and she found her father's body. - Realizing how he died, she confronted the noble about her father's death. Filled with anger, pain and sadness, she channeled a burst of dark energy and ended up killing the noble. She fainted after that. - Before she came back to her senses, her mother found her and tried to hide the body and clean the place before someone noticed, but she was found and arrested. - Her mother was accused of murder and heresy (because the noble died due to dark magic). She tried to tell the knights that her mother was innocent, but they ignored her. Her mother was executed. - Now homeless, orphaned and filled with guilt, she was forced to become a criminal and steal to survive, for a few years. 3 years later she was found and almost arrested by Temple Knights, but a Dark Knight came to her rescue. - Intrigued by powers similar to the ones she used 3 years before, she stopped the Dark Knight before he could leave and asked him about those powers. He hesitated, but then revealed to her the true nature of Dark Knights and their dark powers - the dark side of one's personality channeled into magic. - Remembering her natural talent for those powers, and willing to find a way to pay for what she did, she decided to become a Dark Knight herself, to protect the weak and the poor, and she asked the Dark Knight to train her. At first puzzled by her request, he later accepted, unaware of her tragic past. - She currently is a Dark Knight, still fighting for justice in Ishgard. Due to her dark past, her powers are a force to be reckoned with, but they're rather uncontrollable and quite taxing for both her body and mind. To balance that, she tries to never think about her past, and acts as cold and unemotional as possible.

I haven't hopped into HW yet but I've been hearing folks in linkshells advocating VIT or maybe even PIE for DRK. The former given that consensus seems to be that it's a squishier tank than PLD or WAR, the latter given its constant need for MP. Yeah, I've been hearing the PIE thing too... I'm just sticking to STR on Judge because that's always been my tanking go-to stat with WAR and PLD, and so he has all gear that lines up with that from his preparation. Once I actually get him to a decent level and have his abilities, I can likely give a decent report on their squishiness and MP consumption. However, as of yet (at 34), I've only been running low on MP if I'm doing the DRK-equivalent of "Flash spamming." I can understand VIT, but PIE? If you're tanking you have Blood Price; if you're not you have Blood Weapon. And either way Souleater is really good with Dark Arts so you will have to use Syphon Strike. Oh, and from what I've seen DRK has more base PIE than every other non-mage job (PLD and BRD have something like 1400 MP at level 50. DRK on the other hand has 1900 MP at level 50). EDIT: And yes, I know they said "PIE will be a possible option for DRK". I remember that. But it turns out they either lied, or were exaggerating.
