The Great Burden of Adventurers and their Jobs
AquiziTC replied to Seriphyn's topic in FFXIV Discussion
DRG itself doesn't have that darkness. 30-50 is all about "huh you're special even without the Eye." And then 50-60 is about "You're awesome, so here's this apprentice" which goes off the rails REAL f'ing fast and then becomes more about -
I would argue it's more money holding power BUT... Where power lies is not the intent of this thread. A talk about privilege can be made, but not here, and not about this. My purpose for the LS is not necessarily as a save 'haven' away from the icky heteros. (that's a joke) It was simply, in my opinion, a place to network, bullshit, and befriend other players and CHARACTERS who might identify as LGBT+, so yes, that includes 'straight' players who may have LGBT+ characters and might be interested in other characters of the ilk. I MADE it because there -was- a linkshell like that, but it no longer exists, so I wanted to have that again. I -am- of the mindset that any sort of hostility will be handled, by me (or my mods) and if it isn't then I need to know about it so I can DO something about it. (I can't be logged in 24/7, of course) That was my purpose here, not a huge debate over power dynamics, or anything like that. So please don't take any one statement or comment as an entire community's opinion or stance.

Scalia's masterful use of hyperbole NEVER fails to entertain.

This, exactly this. I don't really understand how a LS is 'seclusion.' It's like. OK EXAMPLE: How many of you guys have a linkshell for your static? Ok, great. Do not have/talk to any other friends? Of course not! "That's different it's practical not social!" I hear. BULLSHIT! Yes, there are some statics and raid groups that are entirely business. I do not feel, however, that it is the norm. Sure there is a goal there, but it's still a social circle EXCLUDED to some (read: people not in the static, generally). That is not to say I am excluding anyone, the + I add to things involve things like allies and the like. This is not an FC, of which you can only be in one of. There's actually already an FC for that as I know, NAWTY. And while not RP, they're a pretty cool group of people (they live in the same ward as my FC's house). Linkshells do not have the 'only one' restriction. If you already have 8? Then yeah sure I guess there's a conflict there, but I have four! WHAT?! FOUR SOCIAL GROUPS HOW DARE I! I dunno, the 'you're secluding yourself' argument... I'm sorry, it just sounds dumb. Edit: cleaned up language. Post now with less swearing!

tcdieck for anyone who's interested. Just look for the Karkat picture. I'm not good at initiating conversation, best to pester me.

Firstly: Yes the LGBT+ community has to deal with its own prejudices and stuff! Like with bisexual folks, or transgendered individuals. It is something that good activist groups and kind-minded people try to keep in check. I try to call out the hypocrisy whenever I notice it. (It's something I was trained to look forward to in college, with student organization things.) I have my own theory about the vaunted 'gay drama.' It kinda boils down to a person unable to handle their own power after being used to being powerless or something to that note. It's hard to describe in just a few words, and it's just the psych side of me (yay psychology livelihood!) overthinking, perhaps. As for the gay 'bar.' Eh, I dunno. Sometimes people just want to have a little fun with the setting. Not EVERYTHING has to be 100% lore explainable. It could also just be a weird quirk that is rare, but if it's not hurting anyone who cares?

I've always found this interesting on a personal level, noticing how this works since I was a wee queer lad just learning of the world of gay clubs and the like. I know of many relationships that turned out to be stable, wonderful, long-lasting, and committed that started out as "oh we met at a club/bar/party" which is shorthand for "we were drunk, thought each other hot, slept together, and found out we liked each other." I mean of COURSE this happens with straight men and women, too. It's just slightly funny to me how often it seemed to happen when I was younger. I'm a bit too old to care about the scene these days to keep tabs on it. On a more serious note, like... it's -slightly- offensive to read some of the stuff. "The only reason this gets brought up is to bang" (paraphrasing). Yes and no? I mean for some people sure, and some others no. For me it's a little deeper than that? I mean, look if I wanted to RP for sex I know of places I can go do that, easily. But my MMO characters have ALWAYS been different than that. They've always started as just "I like the look of this person and this class," and then they have grown from there into REAL characters with motivations and a life, mind, and muse of their own. I immerse myself in them and enjoy playing the game through their eyes and mind. So I've RP'd a lot of stuff with Tenrilaux, and it didn't even have to all be with other players. It's just him living in Eorzea as an adventurer and some people call him a hero yeah sure whatever but still. Romance RP to me, is an extension of that life. I've done it all ways: explicit, fade to black, heterosexual life-partners (thanks, tvtropes!), forever alone/bachelor, etc. It is probably one of the most interesting ways to get a DIFFERENT kind of character growth, if it's done correctly. I will never knock anyone's flavor of RP, it's generally not how I work, but like.. being out there as an LGBT player and character is for things beyond just "let's get my junk wet." Granted yes the bearing in THIS world setting is purely for a relationship bent, but that is simply because Eorzea is so open regarding sexuality. Haven't seen much regarding gender fluidity, but that may change over time.

The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward
AquiziTC replied to Nero's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I honestly should have taken next weekend off instead of last weekend, heh. When will I learn. Honestly it looks like the whole server shit the bed, I got back in.. 4000+ queue, it's down to 500 right now. Luckily I'm off tomorrow so I have all the time in the world. -
Woah now, let's not get too hostile. It was just disagreement of an opinion.

EVERYONE did. It's dead, Jim. -
Same, nothing wrong with an LGBT linkshell, but all you'll be doing is cloistering yourself. ...and my Tia is gay too <_< >_> Maybe the Nunh is just the only straight one. "Whoever pulls the short straw has to have sex with all these ladies." I don't know. It's not like being in a specific linkshell means you're cutting off all contact to the outside world! It can just be a more convenient place to find people you want to find, or to just.. let loose for a little while. On another note I should be meeting these Tias, or a Xaela please.
-
Tada! The linkshell is all made and stuff, link here!
-
Ok, the linkshell has been made. Send me a tell if you'd like invites. You can also post here if you have any questions or interest. Also would be looking for other people to mod/invite people who are looking for one as I obviously cannot be online 24/7.

A kinda spiritual successor to Menphina's Ward, a linkshell for primarily LBGT(A+alphabet soup) players and characters. Probably not IC, unless people want it to be. You can use this to socialize, connect with other LGBT+ players or characters, set up some RP, or just have a safe place to be comfortable and talk about things you feel you need to talk about. For now we'll say adult-ish in content, as mature themes and talk can likely occur depending on conversation. Swearing's fine on my list, I'm a native New Yorker, after all. As the Linkshell grows we can always reexamine these things. Send anyone on the below list a tell for an invite! People who can invite (For now): Tenrilaux Lemont Vyol'sae Malirah Nailah Quill U'quih Tia
-
I think I may do that then. While yes mostly everything is welcome and friendly, having a place "of our own" can be wonderful and stress-relieving in its own right
-
There used to be a Menphina's Ward linkshell specifically for LGBTA(alphabet soup) folks. It has shuttered. I've been thinking of making a new one after work tonight. If there's interest for it I will gladly do so! IC one even if people would prefer that flavor. I work until 6:00 pm central time today. (Tuesday the 23rd)
-
Ah, yes I would be interested in this linkshell.
-
Welp, I -was- going to log in before I had to work today, and just keep myself running in my room in my FC house and pray I didn't get kicked out before I got home. However, turns out I can't actually FIND my HW registration code, which means why bother? Derp. What a great start to my morning, haha.

The one I -was- a part of has shuttered. Are there others? I can go through the list again. -
I. Basic Info Characters:Tenrilaux Lemont, Senhi'to Dahs Primary character:Tenrilaux Lemont Linkshells: Primary RP linkshell: [*] II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy. I can be IC all the time without breaking a sweat. I also, however, know when it's appropriate to be OOCly succinct for certain game things, setting up story, etc. I am, however, a fan of FULL immersion. Anything and everything can be roleplayed if it's desired by the players! Views on RP combat and injuries: Healing magic exists for a reason. As it appears dismemberment is NOT on the list of curable maladies (see: Raubahn), I'd prefer to stay whole and hearty. Granted, with magitek, cybernetics aren't really that out of the question, so if the story calls for it or if it seems just like the reasonable thing to RP, any and all injuries are game, up to and including complete incapacitation and death. Views on IC romance: As long as it's not JUST sex, sure! A realistic relationship can be enormously fun to RP. It generally allows for a different kind of character development than other types of RP: more introspective and growth-related, or how intimacy with another person and involving that person in multiple aspects of an adventuring life can really effect someone. It's been a long time since I've done romance, but I enjoyed it. It's also why I'd like to do it again. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Generally the RP I have the most experience with from MMOs. This was super huge in my WoW character's development, as the guild was a close-knit group of heroes. My current free company is the same. It's pretty much the common type of RP I'd expect. Views on lore: LOVE. IT. LOOOOOVE IT. I love lore, a lot. Teach me something and I'll be wrapped around your finger. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Not much to say? Linkshells being a 'radio' like thing, and other things just being like.. just mechanical game systems to bend to the will of the RPer. Tells I guess are like linkshells, just 'private' channels? The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward

Having Balmung, Gilgamesh, and Jenova (which got a population boost due to Dodger, I believe), all on the same data center is stupid. Are they going to do anything about it? Nope. I dunno. I kinda just want to get the leveling DONE, but I'm hating how the questing is working out with how huge these maps are. "Oh yeah we opened up two new quests at the old hub. Have fun hoofing it, loser." I'm just acting cranky though, so far everything has been fine enough. -
I'm throwing my hat in with the "Cloud wasn't emo" crowd. Pre-reveal, Cloud was a dork. He was trying to be the anti-hero. Part of it was his childhood dream, part of it was Zack's influence, and part of it was just trying to look cool. The thing was he wasn't really anti-hero material, so he just came off as looking kinda dorky, which made it kinda humorous. I think most of us players remember that. Now of course later we see how fucked up that kid really is, and why that weird kinda mishmash of personality is IN that head of his. He has his pre-crisis, which culminates in him just trying to do SOMETHING so he doesn't lose his f'ing mind. Which he does anyway, poor guy. Post-recovery, he's a man who has had a new identity, and a new TRUTH about existence thrust onto him. He also has all the memories about what he's done, and what is happening now to the world basically because of him. He's understandably timid and nervous and cautious! He doesn't like making the big decisions anymore, and when the party asks him to lead, what does he come up with? "Let's mosey." I think Cloud is just a victim of Flanderization, primarily due to Advent Children. And even that can make sense. The despair from "I thought we saved the world, but looks like the Planet is telling us to go fuck ourselves anyway." It's like.. all that work and death and ruin for NOTHING. I'd be a little emo, too.

I feel kinda ... well ... desperate but I don't do well just.. trying to talk to random people all the time. Especially trying to find the characters that are uh, compatible with Tenrilaux. Ok, short of it about character details: Tenrilaux Lemont, a Duskwight Elezen Dragoon under the service of House Dzemael (damn you MSQ) Member of the Grim Echo, though it's not central to his character (just my group of internet friends! .. the old founders anyway). He was an exile until recently, so he's slowly getting back into the serving the Holy See. So why post here looking for something like this? Well, I'm uh.. pretty gay soooo... yeaaahhh.. Looking for! Uh, doesn't matter really. Not like SUPER into Highlanders, Roes, or Lalas, but I mean if the character's awesome enough then y'know whatever. Just a guy adventurer to RP and adventure and stab dragons with! And maybe sloppy makeouts. Y'know, the simple things in life! Guess you can send me like.. an ingame tell, a message here, reply to this thread, ingame mail. Or this is silly and uh... sorry. >.>; A note before I hit send! Friends are always also cool too! Ask me to share a drink with you in The Forgotten Knight! -
This was the song that played in the dungeon'y shadow place in the Benchmark, so may be a dungeon theme rather than Ishgard. Either way, thanks for bringing THAT earbug back. Yeah listening to it a bit more, this definitely is more Duty sounding than a major city. Addendum: also I like the second half of the Shiva music when actually fighting her. By itself? Eh, but when you're running around stabbing her? I dunno the pace and crazyness of it seems to fit. EDIT2: Also the actual youtube vid has an mp3 link on it THANK THE TWELVE!
