Wonder if this is possible.....(RP or for Fanfic)
Hammersmith replied to Yunas13's topic in RP Discussion
It's not about what you do, but how you do it. Unless you join an FC with explicit rules regarding character concepts, you can literally do whatever you want. The RP community is unmoderated. There is no one to tell you what is and isn't permitted. And anyone who says otherwise is confused. So, don't try to decide if you can do this or not. Just figure out how you can do it well. This is a good general rule! However when you ask a forum for plausibility, it means you're looking for lore reasoning, people are going to weigh in with what the lore shows. Thankfully there's plenty of reasons, as show, that this could happen, without bending or ignoring established stuff in the game (Though you are certainly free to do so if you so wish!) -
Wonder if this is possible.....(RP or for Fanfic)
Hammersmith replied to Yunas13's topic in RP Discussion
The one True case of Time-warp from that is if a legacy char comes over from 1.0 to 2.0. I think even the cutscenes reflect that, as well as the slow "Remembering" everyone gets through the MSQ as it hits them that Hey! You're the Warrior of Light! You did That Thing! Which shows it's possible, but also ascribes to Squeenix's habit of "Chosen One" storytelling. Aether messes things up though. There's no real reason you couldn't wake up in the middle of Cartineu 5 years later and have no idea what just happened. There could be a LOT of reasons, from Time Shenanigans, to Void Portals, to Dues Ex Realm Rebornia at Cartineau. It's not bending much to do such, as long as you weave the reason into the char and use it to give drive to some action. -
When I have Hammer dedicate to a course of action, I foreshadow, heavily. It'll show in on and off screen actions, since he has all the subtly of a brick. Working a grudge? He might not tell you, but things like wanted posters with the face on them are going to go missing. Have a tracker out in the field literally head hunting for you? He'll have them treated in house at the infirmary, even have them meet other people in the FC. There's always warning signs things are about to get very very ugly. But being live RP and a mixed, non fixed audience it often means a lot of people end up with separate peices and never put them together/have no reason to. Work with what you got!

The Screenshot Thread [Tag Your Spoilers]
Hammersmith replied to Zyrusticae's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I think I've reached near peak casual Hammer glamour set. Might still dye the gloves Wine Red to go with the rest of the red. Not sure yet. -
What would it take to convince you to change a plot?
Hammersmith replied to SaintEaon's topic in RP Discussion
Yeah. I expect to roll with whatever happens to the char. Otherwise it's a story on rails, not RP. -
Echoing what's been said above. WHM is a tough cookie to swallow if you load it up as it's framed in pure lore. It's way easier to be a 'white magic' practitioner, which can be seen as a "white mage" by others. AKA: "I don't make people explode when I do magic" It's a fairly common hearth wisdom way of looking at magic, and could easily be used. But the moment someone says succor it's probably a good idea to back away slowly.

Hammer crashes into other people's RP's more often than not. He'll quip, harangue, or comment on something that's going on, or nudge someone and start trying to place a bet on something else that's happening. Anything just to get the ball rolling.

Society has a broad idea of what it wants "Pretty" to be but here in the world of RP we get to saddle it all on our little pretendy-man and force them to dance to the tune. Hammer lacks beauty. Which means having a concept of it to defy and work against. It's a combination, for me, of personal respect for the self (EX appearance and basic self care can suffer easily for your average schlub) and personal respect for others you're going to run into (EX 2: But can clean up to a solid 6 if they try). Appearance plays a roll, both in how things are carried, everything from shoulders to brow to legs to stance. Beauty is a full form involvement that requires brain and body demonstrating a control of appearance. Beauty can be horrific. Beauty can be intimidating. It can be haunting, or strange, or alien. In the end it's what keeps us staring in fascination instead of revulsion at something. Which means it's reliant on the brain behind it and why it's trying, or even incidentally framed "beautiful" by it's actions and currently worn skin-mask. So? How do you do ugly? You grind a lack of personal pride and attention to others into an entirety. No one hits on Hammersmith, in spite of the "Chicks dig scars" and "Roes get swarmed in the quicksand" stereotypes. Where other large scarred muscled Roes get tells asking them to break them in half, I don't get anything. Why? I like to think everything Hammersmith DOES is ugly. From his mad red eye to the smothering cloud of ash and smoke that he spits out, constantly. He's in this for him. He doesnt' dress up. He's not looking or attentive to others unless it benefits him in some way, however short or long term. His scars aren't held well. His personality could crack glass with a good cuss. His body posture is closed and unwelcoming. He's an asshole and that does NOT scream beauty or attractive. It screams: "I hope I'm not next to him when a fight starts"

I'm a fan of the slow, saturatingly evil type. The slow burn that drags everyone else along with them. Real evil isn't mustache twiddling. It's making people make bad choices, over and OVER until they start reaching for the bad choices FIRST and the 'good' ones second. It's the vizier, it's the quiet, too wise wizard in the corner. It's the charismatic warlord that starts as a bandit and ends up an emperor. (Ghengis Khan anyone? Current record holder for human genocide? Killed about 10% of the entire human population that existed during his lifetime (according to low estimates)? And yet there's a statue of this guy out n the steppes.) A person who leads or guides so well and so seamlessly that everyone THINKS it's a good idea to go along, for good or ill (Spoilers: for Ill) Real evil's making everyone else envy you having those bad options available and wanting to reach for those bad options as well. Real evil is also envy of evil. Well done evil, not a one off villain of the week, means not tipping your hand that you're a bomb that's leaking nerve gas micro-litre by micro-litre. It means you marshal and hunt the weak and the spiritually poor and you -plunder- them as human resources. Which is problematic in RP play. The Long Game takes time. The best of it you'll see in RP is a microcosm of Bad News rolling in and getting people behind thinking that Bad Things Might Just Work Out Well. And people mistake you for the good guy until it's way, way too late, or never STOP seeing you as the good guy, which makes it all the more bizzare. Because humans are -terrible things-. But it can be -rull- fun.

Berrod's Monkfighty (and other such punchery) Workshop
Hammersmith replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in Character Workshop
I like having a defined toolkit for my char. It prevents having "an answer for everything" by always having something handy to solve everything, which is a method of thinking that permeates a lot of RP. (It's dangerous folks. Don't do it) Knowing that toolkit, and knowing the effects gives you a better, more well rounded char, who thinks and reaches for something, instead of charging into a situation and relying on you, the writer, to create a coincidence to get them out of it. (Well I just so happen to.) So I kind of approve of this sort of thing: Knowing what your char can and can not do. Emphasis on the Can Not. It's just as important as the Can in a cooperative sort of thing like RP -
"You're out of practice. This is a bad idea." The fire was small. The lantern inside it burned brighter here in the swallowing dark of the shroud. A beacon of pure white in a wreath of dull, ugly red. "Shut up." Someone had had the foresight to drag a log up to the remains of the fire. Hammersmith was seated on it. Humming to himself as the dark and the diamond-bright thing in the fire whispered. "I said this is a bad idea Shaman. Go Home." The fire pulsed. "I'mma king o'bad ideas." The fire shuddered. "Noticed. One of them said you reminded them of their father. You can still quote that letter YOUR dad sent you after you hit the bottom of the mountain, right? Same one you gave your kids after you sent them back up it? That made you squeamish. Kind of funny to watch. Been a while since you felt weak, huh? Gonna happen a lot more before this is through. Go home Shaman." The fire -writhed- under the giant's one glittering ruby eye.. "Fuck You." Sparks were rising from the dead embers. "You're going to see a lot of people die soon. You made that Harky stripling feel -heroic- And you knew you were doing it! You know what happens to people who think they're noble, right?. Aren't you tired of outliving people you don't even -pretend- to care about? You and me both know you have a bad habit of rising people up and then leaning back to see how fast they fall. You got a sick habit. Go Home Shaman." Sparks were leaking out from between the ancient roe's teeth. The two were mixing in the inky black night of the forest. "Fuck. You." Forming a column of starts reaching for the stars. Two parts of an old ritual weaving together in the night air. "And here you are back with your faith. What'd you tell that pointy mage? You and faith fight? A lot? You fight knowing you're going to lose and that pisses you off more. Go Home Shaman." The word that followed wasn't a word. It was a force given form with tone. It was a command and a burning retort of promise twisted into something that rolled off the tongue and dripped over the brain like dark, thick, viscous oil. The one after it was nothing short of explosive hatred that drew claws over the ears and unleashed a flood of sparks that screamed rancor. "You're out of practice. It's nobody's fault but your own." Out in the dark of the Shroud a voice rose in song to the sky and the stars. A raw, bloody edged voice only just short of crashing against the vaults of heaven. "You're feasting on nettles because you don't know how to find a better meal. People are noticing. You're chasing phantoms people forgot about because you don't know how to get your teeth out of something that's wronged you. People will notice that. You're bleeding inside and out too much. People have noticed -that-. They aren't blind. You're not going to have anyone to blame but yourself for the pain that's coming. Come on then. Sing me your faith, Spark Shaman. Remind me what a soul on fire is supposed to sound like. Remind me why I love hearing your tongue dance with Words." In the dark of the shroud the shadows shuddered as a low voice rolled through the spaces between tree and bough, carrying sparks and smoke with it. In the dark of the shroud a voice called for something more through a curtain of rising flame and boundless fury. Fury fed with passion kept kindled as coals, rising again in a crimson howl

Thoughts about intersex (NSFW-ish discussion)
Hammersmith replied to CrimsonMars's topic in RP Discussion
Yeah. This is not the platform for respectful representation or understanding. Much less education. I'd firmly suggest -not- going to exploring this concept here in this context in this game with this crowd surrounding it. -
[Interest Check] Fighting Tourney, with a Plot?

Murder? Yes. I'd like a helping of murder. I mean....fighting. -

Part of me thinks rival schools of punching would be both the natural, and most hilarious, path for some of this to take. The temple's been gone for going on 20ish years. Any monks in prime physical form right now have never stepped foot in what used to be the prime guiding archstone for what a Rhalgar monk was. There's a chance the concept has fractured, new and strange techniques have surfaced out of new blood in new dojos/schools/splinter styles, or that old, forbidden methods of the style have risen or returned now that there's no larger order to slap them down.

Hammer spits and touches iron when he's suspicious of something. He also gets very, very twitchy when he hears any sound resembling "Squerk".

Wandering Dark Knight Miniature Flavor Text A wind up miniature of Hammersmith. Keep away from mages and alchohol. Minion Guide " It's said the original wind-up Hammer is responsible for 'building' all of the subsequent versions that have hit the market. The capture and sale of them is a form of profitable pest control in the Goldsmith's guild. Behavior Independent Idle Animation Constantly smoking, golf club over it's shoulder. Will mime a swing if near a wind-up of a mage classed char.

You're a bard. You have options. You a purely physical bard with NO magic in their background? Then everything you have is style and grace and grandeur. You're a one man murder band with more bravado than the entire WWE and enough power in your songs to make the old warrior poet skalds back the fuck up take stock of what they were doing wrong. You can do a purely physical bard with all of their abilities, just knock the shine and explosions off the moves and just be a story that ends with an arrow in someone's head. You're a legend in motion and you're going to pull everyone along for the ride. You are using magic? Good for you! You've got words and song to work as aetheric levers to make things move to the motion of your ocean. Terror or Triumph, howls of wonder and hate. Storys rolling off the tongue that turn one arrow into an explosion that recants the wars of Olde and the times when the skies went dark with death. You have options. Trawl your brain. We're here to help.

I wonder how much aether a dead dragon or 10 leaves behind Who wants to go do some more Dragon genocide?
