  1. Wow, what a great time to defect! lmao You don't really need to be that clever to be a Machinist! You can simply know how to use firearms and aetherotransformers. As for roles within the Empire (or former roles in your case), almost any role you can think of in our modern military and intelligence, you can find an analogue for in the Empire. There is also Mirke's wonderful lore compilation to draw from, but do be careful as there are spoilers within!
  2. My Carrds:

  3. No, I mean, I don't think there's an example of NPCs or lore sources having Miqo'te call their children anything but children.
  4. When the naming conventions dropped, Seekers were presented as their leadership being separate from Nunh...ship. Since then, everything seems to contradict that, soooo, yeah. I guess since it's in the lore book, it should be taken as fact. But there are a lot of contradicting things and mistakes in the book, so I guess take it as you will? :?
  5. Both Seekers and Keepers seem to be very hunting and battle oriented from what little lore we get. Seekers have a leader, and according to lore that leader is usually someone other than the Nunh (even though one of the examples in game seems to have a Nunh leader). I don't believe they call their children "kits," though I could be wrong. In general Miqo'te don't like being compared to animals.
  6. There are a loooot of options, especially since you can change your class to have new outfit options. For example, my character is in no way a Summoner, but I switch to Summoner to wear an outfit only DPS spell casters can wear. This site can give you an idea of the diversity of outfits, and they add more quite frequently. You don't really need to know much, if anything, about previous FF games here. Aside from names and some themepark-y things, everything is unique to XIV. There is quite a lot of lore, but it's fine if you don't know it all, because chances are your character would only know a tiny portion of it. The stickies in the Lore Discussion board are a good place to start.
  7. I get what'chu sayin', but you must have run into far more receptive people than I have! Though I suppose one person in ten learning is better than nothing.
  8. You can make all the declarations you want about RPing in public being open to, well, public response, but it's not going to stop people from being weird about it. I mean, I agree that if you RP in public you should be ready for walk ups. But people are people, and they're going to be weird and picky about it, and there's nothing you can do about it.
  9. Not that I've ever seen unfortunately. It is canon that Keepers paint their faces, but the teardrop is never specifically addressed. I think it's a levequest that says this: It kind of makes me wonder if the drop is a tattoo instead of paint, but that's my own speculation. For my own Keeper's background the teardrop is actually hollow with a crescent filled in for the phase of the moon she was born under. Since we know so little about Keeper daily life, you're pretty safe making up small traditions like that. There's no reason different clan-families can't have unique traditions.
  10. It likely depends, but we really just don't know as we have no examples of traditional Keeper clans in game. Going by the Postmoogle quest line though, I would argue that typical Keeper women don't have much tolerance for their men and find their company only something to bother with for the bare minimum of time. Men sticking around for longer than that seem to be thought of as unnatural, and quite possibly annoying.
  11. That system was an unmitigated disaster though and ended up being one of the contributing factors (among many) to SWOTR's state today. I'm like one of 5 people who still enjoy that game and even I think it's a dumpster fire from top to bottom.
  12. Gridanians don't trust Duskwight or Keepers of the Moon much. Some of that is covered in the Lancer and Archer story lines. My character certainly has bias toward Keepers. There's no way this wasn't a "joke." I mean a very bad and tired joke, but likely not meant seriously in any case.
  13. I mean, this is a nice stance to take if you can afford to. Petty gripes with RP style aside, some of us have some very good reasons for being cautious about certain behaviors. People like to joke about how the internet doesn't affect real life, but it really can, and for some of the more vulnerable out there it can actually become dangerous.
  14. When I think of the term "red flag" I usually don't think of minor complaints about how other people conduct their RP. "Red flag" usually, to me, means something about personal safety. For example someone who acted possessive of me or my RP time would raise a red flag for me, and I would be wary of spending more time with them. Another big red flag for me is when someone OOC excessively comments on the appearance of my characters.
  15. I didn't mean to imply that you found it difficult, but there were several people in the thread saying that playing a different gender than their own was too daunting. I just wanted to drive home that more than anything, this is usually just a mental block. All you have to do is create a character!
  16. If you find it difficult or daunting to RP a gender that isn't your own, you're probably just psyching yourself out. The differences are subtle and probably matter less in Eorzea than they do in real life. Without getting political, I'm struggling to think about anything that my gender specifically affects in my everyday life. I guess I walk outside at night alone less than my male friends? But that's not true for all women in all places, so I don't know. Just write a person first. That said, I do choose to RP mostly women simply because I'm just usually more excited about good female characters in fiction than I am about men.
  17. I mean, this is the answer to your thread right here. Thread over.
  18. I'm sorry, what? Were you guys LARPing being abusive to trans characters or something and then had to change when trans people made themselves known in your circle? I really have to wonder what this "dark" RP is. Also, protip: These folks have always been in your gaming groups, but the fact that they haven't revealed themselves to you should make you think. This "PC CULTURE IS RUINING EVERYTHING!!!111" garbage is tired and makes my eyes roll into orbit. It's not the reason for people being hesitant about public RP, for god's sake. I have to go with Gegenji's theory of nerds gonna be nerds. Seriously, we should make a poll. How many of us have social hangups or anxieties over initiating or joining RP? I bet the number would be high. And is sending a quick whisper really so massively catastrophic to your RP? Molehills. Also, using queer is fine, considering there are queer studies at universities.
  19. How can you disagree with hardware limitations though? These limits exist whether you believe in them or not. The strain on the entire Aether datacenter continues with or without the power of you imagination. People with expertise are telling you on a concrete, material level that sustaining Balmung is physically impossible. Unless you have invented some quantum servers and are ready to roll them out right now (and even then, I don't know). . .
  20. When designing a room I like to think of a real world parallel and start from there. In this case it would probably be a gym or dojo, right? So, there's the obvious training area, a big open space. There's also maybe changing rooms, showers, or baths? Maybe a place to sit between workouts? Since it's likely going to need a wide open space (you'll be saving on item slots) you can really get creative with structural things, too, like pillars and walls. Also, this site, Housing Snap, is really great for inspiration. I'd caution against outright copying things just because that's not super nice, but it's a great place for inspiration!
  21. Dumb jock finds out life is hard in the big city.
  22. Hmm, a possible climate change is in order? That's interesting. Possibly the effects of the Calamity are starting to reverse themselves? Or will?
  23. Oh, sure it's for the best, but it's not interesting or Shroud-y enough for me. lol I was just a little disappointed. Can you imagine if Ramuh was disturbed enough to join in? Wooooo...
  24. I thought the elementals had been incapable of doing that for all of ARR because the Calamity weakened them or something? That very well could be! Though you'd think that kind of commotion would bother them regardless.
  25. I'm actually really disappointed the big DBZ fight didn't spill over into the Shroud and incur some good ol' fashioned Greenwrath. I wanted to see some imperial scum get vaporized, damn it!
