  1. I'll be participating in the Culinarian skills contest as well =) Wonderful! I love the bakery concept and you participating representing your bakery will be awesome!
  2. I like this a lot and not sure if Amaare would fit in as a member yet but many of his family were pirates and privateers and he has privateered in the past when the treasure hunting/salvaging business was slow. I'd like to rp with you guys a lot whether he is a member or not, definitely would like him to have a lot of pirate associations in his background at the least.
  3. Any questions you have about rp or anything feel free to ask or send me a pm
  4. I'd like your place to support a cooking contest for the Limitless Sky Beach Party Festival. My thinking is it would be kinda cool to have "official sponsorship" by one of the business entities that will be on Gilgamesh. I'll be leveling the hell out of my Culinarian skills during open beta and early access to participate but mainly as comic relief if we don't have enough participants., it also be cool if you were one of the judges sir. *Gives puppy dog eyes* Oh and by the way if anybody who wants to chat is on enjin send me a pm and I'll give you my enjin name.
  5. Lets talk soon as there are some things I want to discuss with you all and run some ideas by you guys.
  6. Not to take anything away from what has been said but I just want to put this out there. If there were any time to find Dragoons outside of Ishguard and maybe (again maybe) even training people it would be after the god of all dragons attacked wouldn't it? I know one of you guys stated why would someone pick up someone else's cause? Well because Bahamut just turned your homeland into barbecue, I mean that would seem like a good reason to want to be a Dragoon to me no matter where you are from. I hope SE adds that storybit into the Dragoons now. I mean I'd figure Ishguard would have had those wanting to be Dragoons arriving in droves after the Calamity. Now of course them getting in is another thing of course due to the city being closed off.
  7. One of the things Yoshi-P said is that it would take about two-three lvl50's to buy a small house. So, if all the members pitched in a bit you'd probably get it in no time. Here are my rules for roleplay 1. Have fun if it isn't fun don't do it 2. Don't overthink it 3. Let your character speak, don't shush them because you think what your character is about to say doesn't fit. Your character will speak through you just allow them to, you will get to know them as time goes on promise. Many new roleplayers overthink or try to script out every little line their character is about to say. I say just react and let them speak, you'd be surprised.
  8. "I'm not a thief I'm a Treasure Hunter!" - Locke Cole FFVI Totally ripped "Treasure Hunter Extraordinaire" from this guy This guy and his soundtrack especially. Yes the music definitely had an influence along with the gambling aspect of Setzer. c7Ki81p6kvk Add in a dash of this guy for that slice of life aspect that this version of Amaare has And finish it off with my man here
  9. PM me anytime you want with any questions you have
  10. This isn't about mentoring, its about giving some tips, personal experiences and putting out information for characters that can be easily approached if players happen to come across them in game. Entry point characters is what I mean. Sometimes people don't like strangers approaching them randomly. I'd like this to be a thread for those that don't mind it at all and are always open to being approached icly by someone new. There are also some people who -know- how to rp but may just be shy and vets who are not part of the mentoring program but who are playing approachable characters. But I do thank you for putting that here, its a vital resource that should be used!
  11. I made this thread so many of us vets who are open to getting friended by new rpers can put our character names down here so we can be friend requested for rp at the start of next phase. This is not a Gilgamesh specific thread, just something talking about my own experiences. Those who don't mind opening themselves to be friended by the new folk please list your name and information down below including server. A story or two that you can share about your experiences roleplaying would be great if you wish. I would also love if you guys can put down some tips for the new rpers. This is actually a modified thread I once wrote for another rp board but I think it will be a good thing to have here, especially for those of us who are going to Gilgamesh and have more of an uphill battle. I think it will be effective for both servers even still. I've been playing mmos for a pretty long time. I started in the original Everquest series. One of the best experiences I had was sitting with another character in one of the buildings in Eurudin and him teaching me how to play the game but doing it IC. Its was what really got me into rping in mmorpgs. Open beta is coming soon and we are going to get a lot of people coming in trying out the game and deciding whether or not its worth the fifteen dollars a month. Lets help them by making a great impression. All I ask is, show them some patience, be willing to teach them, and do it in a way that encourages them and not discourages them. Yes, we all know that there are going to be the bad element that shows up with the good, but the honest truth is that if you show them a great time they will be more willing to rp and some will turn out to be truly great. Personally I loove meeting new people in my games. Amaare is what I call a "welcome mat" character. I made him to encourage new players to rp because he is so open to meeting new people and he talks with anyone. Now I know that many of us like closed in private rp, I get that, but just be open to the alternative is all I'm saying. Everyone has to have their first time and we should be more willing to grow our small community than to shrink it and not ignoring people who are new to our craft. Too many times I've seen veteran roleplayers completely ignore new players because they had the "wrong name" or made a mistake trying to address them. Its hard coming up to new people and engaging them, not to mention in this game its very hard finding lore enough as it is, give them a chance if you teach them the right way they will be willing to reroll trust me. On Gilgamesh on the last day of phase 3 I hung out with some players who had a conversation with me about following lore with their names, but they never roleplayed. Well guess what? I will be roleplaying with them once we hook up again during phase 4 and early access. I told them it was great that they were doing what they were doing (hell they definitely showed me up as Amaare's name is not lore accurate in the traditional sense , but there is a reason). I was proud of them and new that these were potential roleplayers in front of me. A strong welcoming community is good for everyone, so lets really show our best and do our best to teach and not discourage. Teaching in a gentle encouraging hand and not by ignoring people (which is horribly rude and quite low budget, do we do this in rl when people are speaking to us?) when the are trying to rp with you or by shutting them out completely. We the players are the true tour guides of the game, and the world is richer because of it. Lets do our part, even if its small. Again remember that we all had to start somewhere, always be ready to teach those that are willing to learn, and new roleplayers be just as patient remember that everyone is human and if you are trying to roleplay with a new person or group its always better to wait for openings instead of trying to force your way into a conversation. Apply what works in real life when you are trying to talk to a group of people having a conversation as to not come off rude. And last but not least, don't easily give up. Just because it didn't work the first time doesn't mean approaching another group will result in the same outcome. People roleplaying in mmos are just like people in real life. Some strangers will ignore you and some will be just plain happy that you are there. Most people usually are just in between. I will say this now, I am always willing to rp if I am on if I'm not already tied up in something (most of the time I'm usually looking for rp so friends fuss at me because I am a very slow leveler). So I am giving all those that are new and starting on Gilgamesh permission to hit me up with a friends request. Want to know my second best experience rping? Showing a kid how to play the game IC in TOR. I was basically returning the favor that was given to me in EQ1 so many years ago. Lets make this memorable for as many people as possible. Break out of your comfort zone and actually talk to the new people. Be the great memories for them so they can be one day setting up posts like this on some mmo ten years from now. Trust me, they will never forget you and thank you for it. Thank you guy who helped me in EQ1, I am still repaying my debt today. Welcome mat rpers unite! Vets here is a format you can use if you wish to put your info out there so you can be friended. Main characters: Amaare Margolis, Asambe Kyambe Playtimes: I'm mainly a late night roleplayer and am usually around all day Fridays and Saturdays. I am EST. Server: Gilgamesh RP style: Heavy roleplayer - I actually rp more than I level though during phase 4 and early access I will be trying to level pretty hard for the September 1st 3pm Limitless Sky Beach Party Festival in Costa Del Sol. Still I will be up to rp regardless. Approach me anytime you see me in the cities or towns. If you want you can send me a tell asking me if I can roleplay at the moment, its totally up to you. If I'm rping already then join right in and use my character as your entrance. The approach can be totally up to you as I love to improv - no seriously lol.
  12. And see this is all of what I am saying here. I honestly want to attract as many people as possible and based on my experiences during phase 3 the interest is there. Now is it going to be easy? Absolutely not. Again I'll say if you just want to jump right into rping immediately then please head right on over to Balmung and call it a day. But.....for me...I'm kinda intrigued on helping a server get its legs and with getting new people to try rp. I love doing that. I used to just sit in the tavern my character ran in GW2 and just invite newbies to have their first rp experience. I loved doing that so much, me and my guild back then really did a great job of turning the district there that was formerly dead into probably what is currently the most busiest district in that game. Now getting to do this on an entire server excites me to no end, and I'm so happy about the support from you guys who are coming along to help. So I think we can make something that lasts, and at least be able to take away the negative stigma that surrounds roleplayers establishing a wonderful server culture on Gilgamesh that doesn't just automatically shut people out because they are affiliated with this group or that group or not part of the cool kids. All this does is cause further rifts with different groups and in my opinion that is part of the reason why rpers tend to be looked down upon or ignored by game companies themselves, because we can be so insular at times and so shut off that we purposely relegate ourselves to that of a niche group. I'd like to change that, especially in a game where the lead producer constantly mentions how he likes roleplaying in his "Letter from the producer videos". I want to help make rp so good and so fun on the server and so inclusive that Yoshi rolls an alt there just to see it for himself. I think we can do it, as a matter of fact I KNOW we can. See you guys in game!
  13. I'm just going to make sure I spend a lot of time paying attention to the stories and lore during open beta and early access so I can get some solid answers. SE has always been good at having good explanations so until there are some solid ones I'll leave certain things up in the air for now cause I can see how this is going to get confusing.
  14. I would have to agree with all points here. Personally I'm going to be playing my Lalafell as a funny but cute sarcastic bastard, he will also be my main lore associated character that I will be -fully- following the lore with in a traditional manner. (Amaare is not your typical Hyur being not from Ala Mhigo at all and knowing really nothing about it he is my mmo mascot character that I tend to use across mmos and serves a role of icebreaker for new roleplayers.). So I agree with the playing a more serious Lalafell. So yes I will be using the cuteness buuut again he will also be quite sarcastic at times and incredibly intelligent. Not to mention he will use that cuteness to his advantage whenever he is able if you underestimate him. And yes I love Miquo's too but I wish they did overall have a slightly more feral look or the possibility of a more feral look *shrugs* but such is what you get when you play an mmo like this.
  15. I'd be willing to help with this. I've done extensive lore write-ups for other mmos and would like to get to know as much of the lore here as possible. Right now Merri and a few others seem to really know their stuff which I gotta hand it to them, I'd also like to know much of it myself as I often included lore in my rp and conduced in character "lore tours" to help people unfamiliar with the lore in GW2 get familiar with it. Teach teach teach I always say.
  16. Alright then so its settled the event will be on Sunday September 1st at 3pm est in Costa del Sol, Limsa Lominsa Here are some events I would like to do and would love participants Cooking contests Crafting contests Performances/Entertainment Beauty contest a literal Mr and Ms Beach Party Festival complete with votes and such. Pehaps we can put up a polling here as a way to get people to come to the site with results being put up Labor Day evening? The cooking contest can be determined by coin toss. Again these events are meant to be more fun and entertaining than competitive. I really just want everyone laughing and having fun without too much fuss. If it makes things easier to avoid chat sprawl we can do the events chatter in the IC channel so it can stand out amongst the chatter in the area. Its up to you guys. And maybe some sort of game that would pretty much be a meet and greet/character introduction of some sort. Anybody got any ideas let me know. One thing about this event is that its pretty casual and light hearted its supposed to be just a fun event that is part rp event part meet and greet for everyone's characters. I don't want there to be a lot of pressure on the new roleplayers so I think a fun event like this should be a nice icebreaker. If you guys have any ideas for things you want to do at the event besides what I have listed then please let me know. Oh and Amaare will be functioning at the event as comic relief and a funny judge of the events. While I'd definitely like more contestants I'd love to have two more judges for the events.
  17. *is biased towards Lalafell, grins evilly* All I have to say is check out the emotes for Lalafell and ask the vets to teach you how to chain them with macros. Omg they are the funniest thing ever I saw a Lala look like it was jumping rope last phase. Unbelievable!
  18. Thank you all for your interest seriously. The more of us the better. Again please start listing your Free Companies and any events you guys are doing! The more the better and see you all at the launch event. Also be sure to look out for Vee's beta event along with inquiring about the Gilgamesh linkshells that are currently looking for members. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I'm happy to see the positivity here and wish to keep it that way honestly. Oh and please someone put together that weekly meetup, Its hard for me to make it to primetime rp meets unless its on Fridays or Saturdays and I've noticed that such meetups are popular on days like Tuesdays or Thursdays. So if anyone wants to get this started please go right ahead. Also I would love to meet up with anyone next phase and have just a "say hello" meetup on the Friday or Saturday of next phase. I'll be dragging some friends with me into open beta next phase as well who are currently playing other games.
  19. Thanks so much for the compliment, here is another I took I love the sky in this picture. I can't wait to see your character again in open beta!! I believe, or hope this will be the final revamp of Rhynka. It's the only version I didn't cringe at during certain CSes or RPs. Here is before... Believe it or not she's actually smiling at poor U'zhan. No wonder he's so jumpy around her! Here is an after like 6 tries to tone down the bitchy glare shot. I think I did a good job keeping the slant eyes and making her look less upset with everything she looks upon. Input is very welcomed here, tell me what you think peoples!! Love them all, as always I think you and hubby have done a wonderful job.
  20. Oh wow, Leviathan folk, I was wondering when you guys were going to show up. Welcome to the site.
  21. Sounds good to me can't wait to read it!
  22. I think something like this lends well to IC rp, people who buy in literally could rp as investors introducing new storylines and such. I support this definitely.
  23. I just wanted to reiterate, this is not -my- linkshell its the linkshell of the community itself for rpers. I just put a little backstory there because its an IC linkshell, so I figured something positive and inclusive would be the way to go. There will be an accompanying OOC linkshell as well -Coalition OOC-. These linkshells are simply for the roleplayers on the server to stick together and will be functioning no differently from your typical ic and ooc chat channels in any other mmo. So anyone who wants to give out pearls just say so. I also want to remind everyone to not use the IC channel as a way to not rp in public, it was suggested that there was an IC channel for those who are leveling to use and I like those so I agree, but I will say that most of my own rp will be in say so that potential roleplayers can know we are around in the first place.
