Just wanted to say welcome to the new faces that are headed to Gilgamesh again lets start listing those linkshells and especially those Free Companies! We need the variety and for people to see them so that we can keep interest in going to Gilgamesh up. Lurkers who are heading to Gilgamesh don't be shy, please come out and say hello and lets get those concepts up people. The more buzz and presence we have, the easier it will be to get folk to be interested! People are coming by daily! So lets give them a lot to see! -

Lol nah, not really, I am really here for you guys who wanted to play on a non legacy server. I just hate when rp servers die. At first I was just going to lend support but still play on Balmung. Then the idea of staying to actively help became more appealing. You guys are the leaders, I'm just the guy who wants to help make things great is all. Besides options are a good thing and I am loving everyone that I've run into already who really wants to this to work. On these forums and even in the game people are really excited about this. Wait till beta 4 and early access! So many people are rooting for us! The helping to build a foundation really gets me excited. Besides the character I'm playing just for this server is my favorite version of all time. I haven't played him in a while, much more fun than my previous version, I am going to have fun entertaining all of you and making you all laugh with his antics. So thanks all of you once more, seriously. Oh and Isis what are your character's prices? I would love if she performed at the Beach Party Festival on Sept 1st at 3pm if possible.

You should give Rhazamir and Rhynka a PM, I know their characters are performers, they might be open to this. I think its a great idea honestly.

Like some have stated here I like the improvisation random organic approach. The only things I will prescript before hand is community events. Now everyone is different and everyone likes different things. Personally I don't like scripted rp, especially if everyone is not on the same page because I've found that those who usually prefer to script rp can sometimes want to retcon things that don't go the way they want. I had an experience where someone wanted to do a semi scripted story, I told them that I don't like scripted rp but decided to be a good sport and go with it anyway and just let a friend be privy to the scripted details because me knowing the story beforehand would ruin the experience. Well a rp partner on the side of the scripter put the story in motion without the scripters knowledge, so myself and my friend rolled with the punches and rped the situation. Come to find out that the original scenario scripter decided to not do the story and acted like the story didn't happen at all. (Even though her friend already put the story in motion and myself and my rp friend were already engaged in the storyline at hand). It caused a lot of frustration because I personally do not believe in retcons. I have always been of the mindset "the show must go on". It caused even more frustration because the scripter wanted us to acknowledge other things she was doing but not the fact that a storyline was put in motion by someone on her side without her knowledge. Worse yet instead of apologizing or asking for a retcon she didn't acknowledge her friends move. So yeah no scripted rp for me and I'll decline such instances from now on. Want me in your storyline?, just bring me in through rp and don't tell me what you are doing. I'll be just fine. And please...no retcons. As someone stated this is a game, its interactive. If I wanted to read or write a book I wouldn't be playing a videogame.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part VII Q&A Summary (07/24/2013)

Right, that's the direction I was likely going with if it turned out that there was no concrete answer ;P The explanation I'm writing toward is that to become a Bard, one must both be capable of harnessing the powers associated with White Magic and wield sufficient skill with an instrument in which to carry and project that magic. Just as a faulty gesture would ruin a mage's spell, nothing less than perfect playing will allow a Bard to "cast" their surges of inspiration. Therefore those without magical talent or the proper skill with their instrument of choice cannot become Bards--and so that's what makes them special: they're able to combine both magic and talent seamlessly. As for the archery part of it...? Maybe it's a tradition? ;P RP-wise, I don't see why someone couldn't play as a Bard and have nothing to do with archery. Yeah I kind of don't like the archery part of it myself and wish it weren't like that. I mean I know they wanted Bard to have something that it's class primarily came from but singing archers? As opposed to a singing pugilist, marauder or even gladiator....(weird). Well at least weird to me. I can't see folks in Gridania being archers or conjurers and deciding "hey I wanna sing!" Just comes off as counteractive to living in the giant supernatural forest that you want to be all eco conscious. I mean wouldn't the Wood Wailers wail on someone who is causing sound pollution?

If I was making a Free Company on Balmung I would pay you to join it. You sound like you are going to be a ball of fun. Someone snatch this one up quick! *Pushes a Lalafell character with your personality on you*

Why I love it when other RPers crash my scene
Gideon Aryeh replied to C'io Behkt's topic in RP Discussion
Being a proud blackbelt of what I like to call freeform improv rp I endorse this 10,000 percent! -
-Being chased when making a speedy retreat from a difficult fight -Training out in the streets of Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa on peoples faces. -Costa del Sol ladywatching. -Gridania smoking fine green -Eating fine food and having fine spirits -Gambling in Ul'dah and Limsa -Treasure hunting, privateering and salvaging. -Running from Wood Wailers because of smoking fine green and making passes at the Seedseer -Taking on occasional contracts from civilians to deal with -troublemakers- and threats -Robbing, extorting, killing, pirating, threatening, beating up and running from Garleans and any combination thereof

Thank you very much! ^^ I will get to that right away then. Hehe, I tried to a little already as opposed to making such a topic but I guess there was nothing to be worried about ^^" And no, I haven't tried the benchmark, I had completely forgotten about such a feature. Thank you very much for linking it to me, I'm downloading it as we speak. The only thing I had to go on was CanYouRunIt? which I am doubtful is an entirely reliable indicator. Nevertheless, it said I was above the minimum requirements and hovering somewhere between there and the recommended. I hope that won't mean I'd have to settle for lackluster graphics but I guess I can't expect everything ^^ Thank you once again for the warm welcome. Welcome to the site! Have you ever thought about playing it on the PS3? You could just pick up a usb keyboard and play it there and I don't think it will be hard finding a used PS3 for like 100 dollars. It should suffice, especially since PS3 and PC players are on the same servers.

RPC Mentorship Program ( PLEASE READ FIRST POST )
Gideon Aryeh replied to Ellie's topic in Chronicled Connections
Server: Gilgamesh Primary Linkshell: Limitless Sky Characters: Amaare Margolis/Asambe Kyambe/Marques Varsonde Style of Roleplay: Heavy Strongest Skills: I am pretty good at finding obscure hard to find lore and making it work. Have a unconventional idea? Find me and we can figure out how to make it work and still have it based on lore. I will say that right now I am still learning the lore of FFXIV myself so we can learn it together! I am a master at what I like to call "freeform" roleplay- improvisation non scripted storylines and full world rp. My motto is if it happens it happened. I don't do retcons as the show -must- go on! I am also an events master and have done lore based events to teach people lore in the other mmo's I've played. Last but not least I'm pretty skilled at making tavern rp not only great, but also being able to icly get tavern rp to lead to fantastic adventures outside of the tavern. Never turn down potential possibilities! In the past I've run or helped run two successful taverns/bars including getting a name to stick that is still being used to this day. Need any advice on running a tavern? I'm your man! *Even if I don't mentor you my characters are all pretty approachable so if you see any of them don't be afraid to engage them. I never ignore anyone and will rp with everyone. One of my constants is playing characters who have some sort of humorous aspect or way about them even when I play a snobbish character. I just enjoy entertaining people, making them laugh and providing the most fun rp experience we can have together. Free Company: None yet but looking -

Raubahn is leader of the Immortal Flames but the Sultana is in charge of Ul'dah So much of this. I think it's actually kind of hilarious-in-a-good-way that a Japanese company (a country that is often stereotyped, for a reason, as xenophobic and full of misogyny) is leading the way in female and non-white characters in positions of power. Hell it's so great to see it at all, and it really says something about where humans as a whole are going, not just in video games but in every facet of life. Square Enix, keep doing that. It's awesome. Fantastic and sad at the same time since most Western mmo devs don't do this very often (Well aside from Funcom but those guys always trailblaze even if their games aren't always the best in execution)

Just the fact that the Grand Companies are lead by two women and a black guy is something in itself. Bravo Square Bravo.

Balancing character personality (Mundane or Mary Sue)
Gideon Aryeh replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
1. I don't like scripted rp, nor do I script my character's every action. He lives in a world, he is part of -that- world. If someone screams down the street he hears it. If there is someone getting mugged over that way he runs to help. He isn't limited to what he is engaged to at the moment. He is part of the world, and if the world does something to draw his attention he will react in one way or another regardless of what he may be involved in at the moment unless it is a situation he absolutely cannot get away from. For me roleplaying is playing as a living npc, someone who lives, breathes, eats, sleeps, loves in the particular world he/she is in. They react to situations no different than many of us do in real life, and I NEVER let ooc feelings get in the way of how my character would react to a situation. How he feels and how I feel are two different things. Personally I like playing my characters like this. Characters that don't live in a bubble and are not shortsighted and limited to their own dealings and actions. They are part of the world and -react- as such. I think for every positive you should add a negative trait. In my opinion the reason why Mary Sue's come off bad is because the player never lets their character be weak. They won't let them take losses. Fact is that there is always going to be someone better than you. Or there will be a situation that your character can't handle. There is nothing wrong with being awesome in some areas and weak in others, and don't make them weak in areas that are rarely seen. Make it in an area that sometimes may be exposed. It happens, and there is nothing wrong to that. It also adds soul and believability to the character. Its all about checks and balances, and remember people DO NOT need to know your character's weaknesses from day one, let them be discovered through roleplay.
