Rping on Gilgamesh? Please give this a read
Gideon Aryeh replied to Gideon Aryeh's topic in RP Discussion
If you think something like that is a good idea go on ahead and get it started. The more good ideas implemented by you guys the better. Please don't see me as the head of this or anything. You don't need my approval. Proactivity from all of us will make it better for us all. I'd love to see everyone start their own projects. -
Will you be using Naming Conventions?
Gideon Aryeh replied to Tranquil Dawn's topic in RP Discussion
I've been meaning to ask about this. 1. Is Raubahn Aldynn following Highlander naming conventions and 2. I've noticed a lot of npcs in Ul'dah for example not following these conventions, especially the Highlander and Midlander people of color like Raubahn. I've also noticed those from other countries like the Garleans following -nation- naming conventions as opposed to racial naming conventions. Can someone list names from the other non Eorzean nations of the world if possible? Last question is there a country that follows more American naming conventions. I mean modern day America where names could be as wide as the sky? Amaare is a highlander, but he has never been to Ala Mhigo, he was born and raised on the ocean in a boat, his parents have never been to Ala Mhigo either as they were raised in a seafaring nomadic environment (the families are treasure hunters, privateers, adventurers and salvagers by trade and for several generations) around merchants, pirates and the like. So the places that they docked had influences on his parents naming him something more exotic. For example their last name in real life Margolis means pearls this goes hand in hand with the treasure hunting lineage of his father's family. My Lalafell on the other hand totally follow naming conventions his name is Asambe Kyambe. -
Thanks again everyone. What do you guys think of this event being set up in Costa del Sol, I was thinking about making this event fun and open like a beach party where we can get lots of pictures, lots of laughs, playing in the water, and other shenanigans? I didn't want the first even to be something to high end and honestly my character is pretty down to earth (this version of him anyway which is basically the -real- version) so he would do something that just anyone could go to and just bring themselves their smiles and their friends. Opinions?

My goodness I have to give a special shoutout to the guild Eden for participating in their first rp lesson today. It was impromptu, funny and the ones who participated did very well for their first time. Like I said, we are going to be drawing a lot of lurkers. I noticed a crowd watching a roleplay session I was having inside of the Quicksand and one of them said "This is better than daytime soap operas". So I said what the hell and said "Perhaps next time you can participate ?". Well he got the courage to join in and it was funny. His character had some whiskey Amaare got him and he got drunk. Then a few others joined in with him. Then his friend joined in and served as a waiter. He got Amaare some (what he called)KFC which was a live Chocobo hatchling. Amaare told him "I can't eat this, its too cute to eat!", and he told Amaare "This is KFC style sir, I can guarantee its fried". Amaare replied "Fried fresh and alive? I don't know what this KFC is, but I don't think I want it anymore". lol Teach these kids, be patient with them and show them the way, gently. They enjoyed it and so did I and I told them if they want to try it out again to hit me up in phase four. Remember most of our roleplayers are going to come from those new to doing it. Lets make their first experience a great one guys! We don't have the luxury of a big pool of rpers like Balmung will, so we have to work hard to build this up ourselves. To roleplaying the pastime we all love! -
And I look forward to seeing you there along with anyone else who joins us. Lets build the greatest rp server ever!

Limitless Sky will function as the IC rp chat channel of the Gilgamesh rp community. All are automatically offered an invite after becoming a member of the Coalition OOC chat channel, the ooc chat channel of the Gilgamesh server. Those who are interested in passing out Linkpearls please just shoot me a pm. The Linkshells both will be set up by Open Beta. *A wonderful thing about Final Fantasy mmos is that linkshells and pearls are actual items npcs use long distance communication right in the game so yes something like this would make sense even icly! Please make sure to make use of the channel if you decide to join! We have new people requesting to join this channel all the time! Here is the link for the Coalition OOC LS http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116&pid=38323#pid38323 An IC introduction: "Man, I remember pop's dream was like getting an airship, I mean he loved our boat you know, she was a great gal before she got destroyed by that damn flying salamander. But, I'd see that old man get all teary eyed over getting himself an airship one day. Man he'd say "Son, I get me an airship and I am just going to fly off into the limitless sky till the day I close my eyes. I'm just going to take people everywhere and anywhere, see everything and anything and make the ground a memory my boy" He'd go on and on about the possibilities and why he would name his ship Limitless Sky. So I figured hey what the hell, Having an airship one day would be kinda cool you know? I do like the idea of just letting people come along for the ride. Whoever wants to come along just would need to ask. I mean its all about the infinite possibilities right?" - Amaare Margolis: Treasure Hunter Extraordinaire

Just on a sidenote everyone. Everyone is invited to the OOC and IC Linkshells: Coalition OOC and Limitless Sky (the IC Linkshell) so when putting up your profiles feel free to mention these. Again these are just basically the rp channels of the Gilgamesh server. Also I would love to have anyone who is willing to give out linkpearls when I am not online to step up. I don't want to miss anyone who is interested in roleplaying on our server when I'm at work. I'm a late night player so I don't want to miss the prime timers. -
Pugilist first and foremost. Amaare is basically the equivalent of a street fighter first, his second would be Bard as he does sing a lot. (Thief would actually be his first if it were choosable but ah well).

I'll just put this on the table Balmung was the server to be for a long time for established roleplaying. If you just want to jump right in and get going with your rp its the place to go. Gilgamesh is new, and with any new thing it takes time to build up. It also takes proactivity on the part of those interested in having a strong rp community to make it so -themselves-. The pool here needs to be built by us, otherwise it doesn't get built. So it depends on you and what you want and know you can do. I DEFINITELY understand those who just wish to jump right in and take off running with an already established community. It makes total sense, and I know there will be good things for those that go there. Hell my original choice was Balmung to be honest. Me personally? I like options and choices. I'm a long time veteran roleplayer. I hate when any rp community/server dies. I personally look it as a blow to the entire community of that game no matter the server. So I'm ready to put my sweat in and do the work. I also believe that the community going to Gilgamesh should not just be swept under the rug with the belief that those are just those "uncooperative people who don't want to play with us on Balmung". Agree or not people's concerns are legitimate no matter what the reason. I will also smile like a proud papa once the community establishes itself. Just something to think about. Play where -you- are happy, but know the pros and cons of where you decide to hang your hat.

Yes there will be, the community will be there its just a work in progress, but there is interest as I make sure to bounce around different forums and inform people in game. One thing though is that as mentioned Balmung still has the advantage in numbers, if you're playing on Gilgamesh you'll have to be more proactive at this stage as the community is going to have to have its rp foundation built up by us pretty much. So the question is go to a community that is already established where you can just jump right in or head to a community that will take some work to be grown but with that comes endless possibilities for those who put in the work. I suggest all who are playing on Gilgamesh really think about this important fact because proactivity is the name of the game here. The community won't build itself and if the resident roleplayers won't do it the community will die. And I'm a bit too hardheaded to want to hear "I told you so* *winks* -
Hah! Glad I wasn't the only one who was going to play a nerdy Elezen scholar.
