Ivalice could someday become part of the world (the original Ivalice had humans only, and no other races) and FFXIV does seem to pick stuff from every other FF. But there is no way to be sure. Plus, I always hesitate about characters coming from places unknown, because then you have to leave your char's story so intentionally vague as to not conflict with any future lore that comes out. Without solid, tangible foundations from their past, its hard to build their presentand future. Just my 2 cents.

@ Vito: I agree! OOC/IC lines can be really problematic. My character Claire last night came across a tribal male Miqo she haaaaaateeed. But OOCly I absolutely loved it . So much 'grrr' between the two of them! Rivals can be so much fun! But in my case, it was like Rose's: a fundamental difference of opinion that I feel people were unable to keep an open mind about. Just because you don't always agree on everything, doesn't men you suddenly treat them like they don't exist. @Rose: hang in there! I bet your char and your FC will do great things!

Its terible right? I ended up leaving my group (which I was officer of) even though all the problematic people had left,, simply cause I couldn't throw myself into the story or my character anymore. Thankfully, I've fallen completely in love with my new char . My old one will be backburnered for now. Send me a tell in game sometime! We can compare notes, or just rp together!

Rosekit; I actually had a very similar thing happen recently in an old FC, in which people I had trusted suddenly turned on me, a massive weekend of drama ensued, and I was suddenly on the outside without a single word of explanation as to why. Like you, I was trying to uphold the original vision of the FC and was being fought tooth and nail over it >_> Obviously I was upset, but what really made it hard to simply move on was that my characters rp and storylines had been completely destroyed, making her hard to play. Additionally, a few close friends of mine ended up in the same boat with their characters. And these were all beloved characters that a lot of time had been put into. Thankfully, I started a new char and found a new group, and am back to just enjoying the game and enjoying rp again =) Unfortunately these things happen. The RP community is filled with passionate people who will often quibble over a lot of things. But there are a lot of decent folk, and a lot of fun to be had, this is just a case of having to take the bad with the good.

Sorry man, I just couldn't help myself. I was in the mood for some Tank Amore... j/k, j/k I once had someone hit on one of my characters, and then propose to her within 20 mins of meeting her. He then magically made her a ring that had the inscription 'though you hide your wings, you are an Angel' on it. I was like... whut ._.

Also, the lack of age slider makes a lot of characters look naturally young. I play a 19 yr old and a 27 yr old. Both are fun for different reasons. The 19 yr old is inexperienced, and trying to find herself. The 27 yr old grew up an outsider. She has knowledge, but is having to integrqte into society for the first time, and finding it very difficult.

I think a lot of people like to explore the coming of age theme. The youth finding their calling, making a name for themselves. Its a pretty easy ploy to open up a lot of great rp and character development. An already developed character is not as much fun to play for a lot of people.

As a new but adamant RPer, I can honestly say my experiences with RP have been about 50% good, 50% terrible. There are a lot of selfish and/or OOC dramatic members in our community who seem to harbor unfair grudges against new rpers or pvers. A lot of good RP gets ruined by rpers who don't play well with others, and only think for themselves. Therefore, our community gets an unfair rap (I'd like to point out there are a lot of selfish pvers too) A lot of RP hate that I see comes from rpers 'ruining' dungeons by being IC when running with straight pvers. I personally don't see the problem in this; the game is meant to be fun, and I just don't get intolerance towards other people's approaches to having fun, unless it seriously inhibits other people's fun. I think Yini has it right; a lot of misconception can be dispelled from kindness. Gently informing them that they rolled on an unofficial RP server, so that they'll see a lot of us, would be a good way to break the ice ^^

I typically avoid large events cuz I do not find them fun. However, for many they are fun, and for many its a first taste of rp! So they do serve a purpose =)

Hello and welcome! Are you a new rper? If so, the only advice I can give you is to ask a lot of questions, and don't be afraid to dive right in!

You can regain lvl 15 in 1-2 days if you do hunting log, fates, and quests. If you have the urge to start over, ur at a good level to do so!

You can buzz me in game (Isielin Danar'i) if you want to have some general RP, or just chat up some of the games lore and whatnot. As for Linkshells and Free Companies, scope out the Linkshell page for any that catch your eye! There are plenty on Balmung and Gilgamesh, and plenty that would welcome a blacksmith =)

I've had a number of surprise open RP sessions here myself, and 9/10 it brings a smile to my face ( there was an incident of someone suddenly trying to boss people around ) Yea this community has been so much better than ,y last game. Glad to have you with us! <3

It took me awhile to get used to non-action combat, and at first I hated it, but ended up growng to appreciate it once I actually was shown how to play Its solid combat system, but nothing revolutionary.

Welcome! I also started my MMO career with EQ, and also have a love of healers! (Even though I am playing an archer ) I am looking for some Wildwood friends for Izzy, so I may poke you in game later!

To this point all her close friends have been Miqo's, and I'd love some connections with either her own kind, or a Duskie friend/rival. Izzy is a kind, compassionate girl who tries to protect others, but who is also proud and opinionated, as well as being uptight at times. Though slow to rise, once risen, her anger can get the best of her. Firmly in the neutral good area, I'd love either a friend who can mellow out her more uptight mannerisms, or someone she can really relate to (Miqo's can be sooooo confusing to her ) I should note that Izzy is in a dedicated relationship, so this would be friendship only.
