  1. You seem to have it figured out for the most part but there is some common misconceptions you have about the Balmung server. Everyone there will not be a bunch of level 50's roaming around. You would be surprised at how many people never achieved 1 level 50 job or only have 1 or 2 level 50 jobs. I personally played for about a year in 1.0 and only got to level 40ish, but I am scrapping that character and starting a brand new one. I was also on the Masamune server and didn't RP so I am one of the many who will still be very new to the RP community there. Also the Heroes of Light thing you posted about is kind of a non-existent problem as the lore indicates that no one really knows what happened that night and the Heroes of Light do not know that they are the Heroes of Light as their have fuzzy memory syndrome. So you don't have to worry about anyone hoarding a title over your head like that. Now Gilgamesh was not too bad from what I saw during beta as the community there seemed to be pretty decent, but then again I didn't really see any RP going on as it was beta. Though I do remember seeing Dogberry running around with a group in Thanalan and RPing and I just stalked them for like 45mins :3. I am sure they saw me as its hard to be a Roegadyn hiding in the bushes
  2. All the Balmung mother hens (and umm father seahorses?) need to let the chick-a-dees spread their wings and leave the nest. I definitely understand that a lot of us on Balmung want to keep the community as close as possible as the more of us there are, the more RP, and the more friends IG and OOG we can make, but some people are just too adamant about changing their minds no matter what and we should all just respect that so we don't create any bad blood. I would personally love to stay united under one server as the RPC originally was intended to do, but unless someone can Yoshi P the real world then we have to live with two communities for the time being. Lets just keep the misinformation about servers to a minimum. Slandering one server is uncalled for as we should all be promoting the RP community as a whole because at the end of the day we are all in this for the same reason.
  3. I'm kind of with you on this one. I don't mind the arena style stuff, but objectives are so much more fun. Ballista was my first eye opening experience to PvP (as RO and PSO didn't have PvP options by the time I quit) and it really has not been topped yet. It was like PvP soccer/football, haha.
  4. I think Gilgamesh was chosen because that is where most of the RPers were at during beta, before they opened up the Legacy servers, and those that didn't want to go to Balmung for *insert reason here* got comfortable and decided to stay there As horrible as it sounds, P4 is right around the corner (I remember reading a hint on FFXIV Core that it would probably be sometime around the 17th) and as much as a switch makes sense at this point (seeing how many other huge communities will be going there and there is an extremely huge possibility that it will be locked out), its kind of too late. I am unsure of how many are actually going to Gilgamesh, but to try to relay this information to all those people in a short amount of time (if they decide to move servers) would just wind up with mass confusion, people going to the wrong server, people getting left behind, etc. For those going to Gilgamesh you may just have to tough it out and hope for the best, but know that if things don't go that smoothly there will always be the Legacy server, which hopefully doesn't get locked out as well as I was doing my character transfer from Masamune it said that the server population was very high. This might have just been related to transfer characters though as they would probably want to keep spots open for newly created characters as well. And yes Kossori, those people on the beta forum are very horrible people indeed. I haven't logged on there for a long time and all that negative talk about RPers on Gilgamesh reminded me why.
  5. I personally love PvP as I find that the AI for PvE is usually pretty lacking and I know there are a lot of like minded people as well in the LS I joined. I am sure that no matter what server you join there will be a lot of PvP to find.
  6. Welcome back! Hope your vacation went well. you didn't miss much, just the sound of us all collectively whining about how much we want to play
  7. Hold on, hold on, time out for a second. Can we just take a moment to look at how funny this video is? Ahahahahahahahaha. This is hilarious. I found an article from cracked that has more stuff like this if anyone is interested in reading more about awful online things. The WoW plague is one of my favorites now. http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-7-biggest-dick-moves-in-history-online-gaming/ Okay, let normal talk resume! Edit: It was probably pretty horrible for the people involved, but hiding in the mountains and cultivating and out of control plague at least deserves a giggle.
  8. I have personally played characters who probably could be seen as villains since I first started RPing, which technically was not that long ago. I think the trick is to not make them over the top. I feel like I did a great job in GW2 as I made my character a lovable villain. She had enemies, but also a good chunk of friends, even though the only reason she made friends was to use them when she needed. She did things because she loved chaos and though she had huge plans, some that were definitely not ever achievable (such as destroying all of a particular race in the world), but she kept busy by destroying the bond between allies, friends, and just causing trouble in general. Most of the time it was not her direct actions that did this, but hiring people to do things which allowed her to stay mostly behind the scenes. This made it easier for other people to take the fall if they were ever caught. Of course it did not always go as planned so I made her a bit of a comical character as well as to give her an escape route when her plans didn't go as well...planned. To sum it up, she was an awful person, but she was still human and had emotions just like anyone else would. I personally have not found a way to port her over to FF, but hopefully I will be able to figure that out one day. I guess what I am trying to say that is that its definitely possible to have a main as a villain. I think most people may think that a villain has to show no emotions or never sometimes feel remorseful for some of their actions, but that does not necessarily have to be true. Magneto from the X-Men has been mostly portrayed as a villain, but really he is just trying to save himself and others like him from being annihilated by following a more militant "kill or be killed" logic. Sephiroth is another good villain. He was a pretty stand up guy then he found out all this stuff and lost it. I think a good villain can have emotions, they have probably loved and lost just like we all have, they have just choose a very negative way of living their lives.
  9. Down with the bourgeoisie! Uh, what? Wrong forum? *quietly leaves the thread* >.>
  10. I heard the Deadpool game itself is kind of stale as far as gameplay goes, but from the reviews I read they seemed to have got Deadpools personality down really well. Angry Joe (youtube) did a nice review of the game. I almost thought about getting it because I kind of like his insanity, but honestly don't know much about him besides the basics.
  11. Debt buddies :moogle:! I will be sending some of you messages and thank you for the responses everyone. Haha @ LeCard, ikr? I don't mind though. I was actually a bit surprised that so many are choosing LL as their home as I was certain most characters would be from or currently living in Ul'dah. I won't be playing a magic user myself, but I really like the idea of a mage guild where all you nerds can sit around and talk about magic and making these go boom:geek: . I think it would be a great connection place for a lot of the people playing scholars.
  12. Bumpity bump! I finally got my characters background all good to go and would love to make some early year street gang connections that revolved around Ul'dah. They would have to be around 8-13 years ago though as Dennthota is now 27 and actually had a legitimate job as a bodyguard from the age of 19-23. She has pretty much been resorting to her old ways of conning people and rigging games again. I also posted a new thread about other criminal-esque connections I would like to make if anyone would care to take a gander. Making Connections
  13. - If your character is a business owner or someone who would loan people money as Dennthota has a gambling problem and is constantly borrowing money from people. This has caused her to rack up debt in all corners of Eorzea. - If your character was in Ul'dah 8-13 years ago and ever gambled as she ran with a street gang (would like some real connections here and not just npcs ) where she would rig games of chance and rip travelers off. - If your character tends to frequent bars around Thanalan you may have come across a loud mouthed rowdy Roegadyn woman and may have ever got into a little tussle with her as well. Edit: - Law enforcement characters might know her from her stubborn nature and refusal to bow to authority which has gotten her thrown in jail on multiple occasions. Mostly in Ul'dah but a few times in Limsa Lomsa as well.
  14. Ah, thanks! I used the search feature but for some reason that didn't pop up for me. I thought it was strange that I didn't see a thread like this/that come up yet. I will go check that out !
  15. That sounded like a come on to me. !!!!!!!!!!! lol!!!
  16. I perused the forum and haven't seen this subject yet. Maybe its because we are still a bit ways away from launch? Anywho, I thought I would start this thread for anyone and everyone who wanted to make connections with other characters for when launch starts. Be it family, childhood friends, rivals, that guy's street performing Opo-opo you accidentally killed for exp and now he wants to kill you, etc. I shall start. *Ahem*. Dennthota has racked up a lot of debt in her past with her gambling problem and I was wondering if anyone would like to volunteer there character to be someone whom she is indebted to. I would prefer this to be a gil debt, but don't mind being indebted with favors or the likes. This relationship would likely be based around her continuing to try to get out of it, hide from the debtor, and maybe if there is enough people who would be interested, her actually paying the debt back to some people. The amount can be discussed and I do like using real gil in situations like this to keep the immersion. So free gil for you, yay! (If you can get her to fork it over 8-)) She also used to run with a little street gang in Ul'dah when she was in her teens and I would really love to have a connection in this department with other little rascals. Maybe even someone who brought her into the gang and taught her the ropes (she has a knack for rigging card and dice games). She is 27 and she arrived in Ul'dah when she was 14.
  17. I understand your disdain for newer RPGs but there have been some diamonds out there. Lost Odyssey is definitely one of my most recent favorites. I heard a copy of it is really hard to find though *opens the super secret safe and pets my glorious copy*. I know there was another one but can't think of its name, Tales of something, which is also new. Ah, Tales of Vesperia (thanks google). If you play any of the onlineish RPGs on the Vita (or PsP) then maybe you and I can play some multiplayer sometime ? Welcome to the community!
  18. The tricky thing about grinding in this game is that Yoshi pretty much made all the world enemies trash mobs as he didn't want there to be any party based world play outside of FATEs...Don't know why he decided to do this but I personally love grind as well and this really upsets me. I actually enjoyed the grind in XI as each level felt like a real accomplishment. Most leveling will be done in dungeons and quests but honestly...eff that noise. I am going to go beat up a bunch of random baddies in the world and explore . I am a Legacy player but am scraping my character for a fresh start in 2.0 so if you end up on Balmung maybe you and I can do some grinding together and maybe even combine RP and grinding?

    Hiya!

Ah jeez, RO. I actually really loved that game and it was one of my first MMO's I played. Actually my second, my first being Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast. I literally just started RPing last year at the release of GW2 and fell in love with it. I know I messed up sometimes (like using someones name that had not told me it yet, but I just read it above their head ), but luckily I had a great group that showed me the ropes. The community here is also very friendly and I am sure they will help you ease right on in. If you have any questions feel free to ask myself or post a topic.
  20. Thank you for these videos. They were really great to listen to.
  21. I personally like the level 1 gear. The pants scream all sorts of sexy. Though the arm pieces are a little weird. The entire outfit works together though because of the puffy arm pieces kind of accentuate the biceps /flex.
  22. Welcome to the community! There are lots of LS' on the LS page if you two want to start looking for a group right away. The Wiki is also a pretty nice place if you need some help with lore or I am sure you can find the answer somewhere on the forums. There was some PvP in XI. Ballista was very fun if you were lucky enough to have a server where people would participate every now and then. There was also some other arena and my LS would have competitions to win prizes and stuff. The community on Hades was really awesome.
  23. Sexy amazon lady! I say stay with the darker skin tone. Modified some minor things on my character. Tried to make an older guy for a possible alt, but there is only one wrinkley Hyur face . I just made her for fun. Just thought she looked really nice. Ladies ~.^
  24. Welcome! I wish my lover RP'd...Heck, it would be nice if they just played any video games .
