To everyone considering splintering the already small community...again: You are going to have to deal with these server issues no matter what NA/EU server you go to. If you don't want to deal with them you have to roll JP. If you don't want to roll JP you just have to wait around to get on like the rest of us. This early access period feels like its going to be more of a stress test than an actual head start. There is a small number of my guild members who are going on JP servers just for fun until things clear up. There was a suggestion here written by someone that if you want to RP you should do the same temporarily until servers stabilize and I second this. I know lots of people are getting impatient and just want to play the game, as do I, but nothing good will come with trying to pull more RPers from the already smaller secondary server to make a much smaller third server, you are only doing more harm to your own RP if you take this route. There was a thread about Gilgamesh moving servers due to concerns of server overcrowding, but it was brought up too late and the interest in it seemed very low. There are lots of RPers who have already settled on Gilgamesh, have logged in, leveled, had fun, and more than likely are not willing to delete their progress and start over. There probably will be a paid server transfer option in the future as they had one with XI, but asking over 100+ people to pay an extra $15-$20 to transfer servers is probably asking too much. Now lets all hold hates and pray to the Twelve so that they will grant us entrance into the world.

I am going through withdrawals and I need my fix! >.o if you ever post another WoW picture here again, I will find your character and give them the evilest stare that SE will allow my character to give. Oh a less threatening note...this really sucks. SE needs to get it's act together. I have been pretty understanding because its new servers, but they had all of P4, the week after, and the last 2 days and four of five maintenance's to figure this out. School starts tomorrow and it is kind of my last day of freedom to sit back and enjoy and now I get to stare at a login screen...I am going to go outside and get stung by a bee or hit by a car..and it will be all your fault SE!! /temper tantrum

They are literally never going to fix it lol. Four maintenance's later and they still haven't fixed the issue. SE really needs to get it's act together.

Things will clear up. I think it is way too early tos tart talking about allowing a 3rd split.

An amazing 1.0 summary. Most of it is great as the first half of it really focuses on the Empire and the main antagonist in 1.0 http://gamerescape.com/2013/08/21/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-white-raven/ This has general information, but most can be found on the wiki http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=657017 And since servers are down right now I am sure there are lots of people (myself included) that will help you with any additional questions to keep us busy.

I just got kicked after teleporting. Sometimes I can get to the loading screen right after you pick your character but when that happens I get hit with the 10102 error. Besides that I get hit with the 90000 error. Same here. I went to zone into LL and got kicked and now getting the same error. The JP servers are also not loading up.

Vulgar ? I like to think of such words as just useful and colorful adjectives and nouns !

Welcome! There have been some interesting talks about villainy in these forums lately. I am sure you will easily find a home ^^. Glad to have you aboard!

Lol, I was reading that interview that Reinhardt translated yesterday and they seem to really like NA players because they are so direct. "They either dislike the game and will not play or it, or they will play the game." They said after P4 that their NA pre-orders skyrocketed and they broke the record for top preorders on PS3. That being said, there apparently seem to be waaaayyy more NA players than JP players (which I think is really odd) so we can expect to possibly see even more issues. Back on topic....ARGH! I literally got to play for 15 minutes before I got kicked while zoning >

1. They are more prone to use outsider friendly names, but you are definitely free to use proper Roe names. You can see both types of characters in the world, Sea Wolves named Dirty Copper, and Hellsguards named Ajlifs Ijhhlnas (pounded on my keyboard to make that, but it looks about right ) 2. They are not that huge of a divide between the two, nothing like what is experienced with the Elezen. The Sea Wolves just took to the coast and the Hellsguard decided to guard a volcano which they thought held the spirits of the dead. As far as I know there is no bad blood between them. 3. No answer on this one, but I honestly like the idea and will be playing my Hellsguard with the same outlook on the practice. I would say its probably superstition kind of like walking under a ladder, splitting a pole, black cat thing. It's a fear passed down from generation to generation. At least there have been no mentions of lore as to why they don't like alchemy. "Science scare Roe. Roe smash science!" 4. No lore has come out on this either. I think it would be just as normal as believing that the Twelveswood is alive to people of Gridania. People outside may be a bit skeptical, but that doesn't feign their belief in it. If I remember some of the story correctly, I know there are some in Grid that also don't believe in the spirits (elementals) of the woods.

^ There was an article released by SE the other day that Reinhardt had translated that said the amount of new players on the Legacy server far outweighed the amount of old players. They think it is because people are inviting their friends.

Balmung's Finest: Community Dungeon Crawling Initiative
LandStander replied to Rhylund's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I think the Duty Finder was a great idea. It really cuts back on the time of waiting for people to invite you from your own server so that you can find parties easier. I really do think that they should give you the option to search on your own server as well as all servers though. I personally love getting to know the players on my server. I share the same sentiments as Ashren about it sucks not being able to play with the same people again. I remember in FFXI when you would start a party, you would recognize peoples name and knew what to expect of them. Plus it is one of the few areas of the game that forces you to socialize a little. It will be hard to build a community outside of ones FC because you basically don't need to ever get to know anyone. Our only savior is the fact that we are tied together by being an RP community. Thank god that they are not having regional AH's...that has always been a god awful idea. In short, Duty Finder is great, but we need more options to foster a strong community. You can never go wrong with offering options. -

Lol. I think people are just skipping ahead. Don't be so lazy and look back at the old pages! It's not like you really have to read anything

Thank you . This helped answer a lot of questions for me. The lore summary that was buried in there was an extremely huge help. Gave me a understanding of the Empire a lot more. I kind of want to RP a character who is a spy for the Empire now :3. Down with the Primals and all who protect them!

I think this is the exact way they are going to do it. Just look at their reasoning behind Ballista in FFXI. "Ballista is one of the forms of Conflict in Final Fantasy XI. With the recent wave of patriotism sweeping Vana'diel, the decision was made to reintroduce Conflict as a form of friendly rivalry between the three nations. Ballista is based upon San d'Orian military training exercises that involve participants digging up small stones called Petras to toss into goals called Rooks scattered around the battlefield."

Wall of Text Alert! In regards with the Garlean thing I don't think they have chalked them up for being evil for no reason. Say if Canadians started invading the US and you lived in the US. It didn't matter what the Canadian's reason for invading was, it was evil in your eyes because they were killing people you knew and taking your land. I think the same is true with the Garleans. They are military technological powerhouse who is invading countries because they are imperialist who want more power and land *cough* (America). Now about bringing down an entire moon to literally wipe out all life in Eorzea. Think of the atomic bomb or about the massive amounts of chemicals that the US used in Vietnam that destroyed almost all life where it was sprayed. These tactics are used because they are less soldier costly and it is easier to tame a smaller population or a population and army in fear. I had a nice discussion about villains with an old friend of mine about a year back. She didn't understand why characters became villains in real life or games. Though we don't normally get to see why they become villains in games and movies (except with rare cases like Sephiroth), but it seems to be that something traumatic happened and they choose a different way of dealing it than most people. I was watching a documentary the other day about a 16 year old girl who was being tried for murder. She actually seemed like a completely normal person, but apparently in her life she bounced around from abusive foster parents who always "treated her nicely at first, but then turned out to be abusive". This gave her the idea that everyone in the world was the same way and so she always expected someone to do something horrible to her. These experiences created the reality around her. Another interesting thing is just some people are just horrible people (for whatever reason). I was reading a story about a guy who was arrested for drinking in public (which is strange to me because I live in Vegas and there is like 2 or 3 places to buy liquor at every corner). They brought him in to the station, but let him go on a citation. When he left the police station he stole an ambulance. The cops knew who he was and just waited for him at his house where they arrested him and his excuse was "I didn't feel like f***ing walking". Now common sense would tell someone that this is a very wrong thing to do, but for whatever reason, this guy totally lacks that factor that compels him to obey the moral code set in his culture. There are even people who do horrible things because it makes them feel better about themselves or makes them feel powerful and in control. Its sick, but its the way some people tick. While I agree with a lot of what you say, I find the opposite true of good characters. I am pulling this number out of my ass, but it seems like 90% of the RP population in any MMO is "good" whether that is neutral, chaotic good, or whatever, and that just seems dull to me as none of them do horrible things just because they can. People power trip all the time. It gets boring saving lives, paying taxes, and obeying the law. My main gripe with hero and good characters is that there is never any real challenge to them (in games and movies). They always win because they are good and are always expected to win. It could be why I love shows like Attack on Titan and Game of Thrones. It shows that no matter what your moral standing is, no one is safe from death. I think I really got into RPing because it was a chance for me to leave my shoes and experience someone else's life through their eyes. Though I know my own personality mixes with the characters I play, sometimes on accident, sometimes on purpose. Maybe it is why I enjoy playing villains so much. I think I am an extremely nice person in real life to the point that I put myself into horrible positions just to save someone the trouble and stress (which I think some people can also relate to), but I think that chance to actually try to view the world through another is an amazing experience that no one should pass up... I am going off track now...What were we originally talking about now? Whatever, RP for life!!

Any of these character types out there for RP?
LandStander replied to faceman7381's topic in RP Discussion
Ah, god. Ronin Warriors . This might have been my first experience with anime. I remember my brothers and I all bought the toys and they had all those removal pieces of armor. Of course we eventually lost them all, but I still have Cye action figure. They had springs as limbs for some odd reason. I am keeping it to hand down to my one day children :3 Edit: This guy on Ebay is selling it for about $150...I really wish I still had the armor pieces now -
Oh, I watched this with my girlfriend awhile back. Its actually really entertaining and I definitely recommend this. Even if you are not that interested in LARPing, it is still very interesting to see how they interact together. The end was actually pretty damn epic. I think they had this on Netflix awhile back.

Say wha? Has this always been that way? I remember in 1.0 my guild was talking about WAR had better DPS than MNK and DRG. Was this changed or did they get it entirely wrong? Edit: Also sorta off topic here, but can you dye AF gear?
-
Wha? Who told you that? MRD is basically an off tank and a DPS and the same goes for WAR. The only pure tank class there is right now is PLD.

I read your info on the Grim and I don't know that they would be opposed by the Blades, they basically follow the same ideals the Blades do. Especially this part: Sounds like the Night Blades as well . Three guilds interested in gaining as much power as possible. Sounds like a nice rivalry could be had here :3

Lots of great ideas floating around in this thread. I would even be okay with throwing my main in to the pool of rentable villains. She is a sellsword that really doesn't say no to any job unless it is something like a 10 out of 10 on the evil scale like barricading the doors to an orphanage and setting the thing ablaze. But fulfilling the role of a highway woman and committing acts like robbery, kidnapping, and beating up a few helpless people won't really bother her much. A few stories I have written with her puts her in a lawless position with frequent trips to the slammer for various acts of hooliganism, fighting in the streets, and the sorts.
