What is you're favoite Final Fantasy Song?
CallmeYahweh replied to Kellen whitewolf's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
There are a metric ton of songs from Final Fantasy that I love. The entire soundtrack to 11 was golden. (I still catch myself humming the Ronfaure theme from time to time!) But I decided to go with the first song that came to mind, and that song was: [video=youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXlE8ZESSEI You Are Not Alone from FF9. -
I've thought about this sort of style before, and even considered making this type of character. (Still might, even!) I have some experience reading tarot; I bought a deck a few years back and practiced giving readings to my friends/family for a while before I "performed" at some of my city's boardwalk festivals. Made some decent change doing it, hahaha. In general, psychic readings and fortune telling is all about how well you sell the idea. Use vague, sweeping generalizations to probe out information people are interested in/want to hear, and then narrow it down from there. That's the direction I'd take a character of this sort of archetype; big time fraud, looking to make a some gil swindling. Granted, in ARR you could easily make the real deal, given the world that the game takes place in. Either way though, you'd want to talk with the interested party beforehand, and establish some key points of OOC information to work in. Using the wiki's rumor section could be fun. The success of the thing relies on communication though. That warlock rp'er from WoW being a good example of this done right. It could be a lot of fun to try out!

Hey so, this thread is rad. Earlier I spotted some talk about Ul'dah, and some of the seedier parts of it. It just so happens that V'ahal Tia, (known commonly as Rendal around Ul'dah,) just so happens to be involved in some of that. He's ex-hired muscle for the Platinum Mirage. He worked there for a handful of years before deciding to be fickle and running off towards Limsa. He's got a bit of trouble following him, seeing as how he's managed to wrack up some debt while there, and has some loan sharks sniffing about for clues as to where he went. V'ahal is kind of a vagabond, and though he's part of a darker side of the city, he's a generally cheerful guy and having some folks who recognize him here and there would be sweet. Hit me up if folks is interested.

The art of Distraction: Keeping yourself busy till phase 4
CallmeYahweh replied to Felix Sideris's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It took me two attempts, but it was well worth it. Samuel R. Delany is incredible. Another Delany fan! Huzzah! I love most of his work with a special fondness for his short stories. Dhalgren's been a hard one to figure out though. -
The art of Distraction: Keeping yourself busy till phase 4
CallmeYahweh replied to Felix Sideris's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Life is keeping me fairly busy in its own right. I had the junkie jitters for a solid week and a half after phase 3 ended but it's (mostly) gone at this point. Doing a lot of reading, especially out of my comfort zone: I picked up three Haruki Murakami novels a few weeks back and I'm chewing through those at the moment, then it's probably off to retry reading Dhalgren again. Lots of editing; helped out a buddy with his third novel, and read through a script with another one. As far as videogames go, playing a lot of League and Warframe. With a little Borderlands 2 and various titles I picked up on the Steam summer sale here and there. -
Call me a nerd or what have you, but I've got most of phase 4 planned out, and early access drawn up roughly. I'll be leveling my main class to ~25ish or so for access to GCs and chocobos, and then it's craft, craft, craft! Once individual houses are purchasable I plan to pick up one of the largest sizes so I need all the gil I can get my hands on. (Plus crafting in ARR beats the hell out of crafting in every other MMO I've played, so there's that.) Once live hits, I'll slow down considerably as I work towards content not found in the beta phases. I'd really like to find a solid, friendly endgame oriented FC at some point as well.

Another Tom Waits avatar. I am both surprised, and happy. Welcome to the fold, sirrah.

Looks like we're gearing up for a 5 day end of Phase 3 stress test starting on Wednesday morning, usual beta time. http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/77221-Beta-Test-Phase-3-Schedule-%2807-08-2013%29?p=934710&viewfull=1#post934710 Be sure to back up your screenshots/character creation data if you want 'em. Looks like we'll be getting a new client for Phase 4, and that means the folder that houses screenshots/character data will be deleted with everything else.

Oh man oh man oh man. How did I not see this sooner? There are some seriously awesome choices being made here. I'll add my own to the pot: 1. Morpheus is on here already. And while the Dream King is definitely one of my favorites, the crown of Sandman goes to either Destruction, or Desire. Desire wins out because well, it's Desire! How can you say no to that? Aside from the machinations that are pulled in Sandman, I have heard that Desire was based upon both Annie Lennox and David Bowie. 2. Bigby Wolf. Fables has a lot of fantastic characters in it but Bigby is easily far and away my favorite. He's that growly, surly guy with a heart of gold, same sort of character as Hellboy, really. Plus he's a PI. Werewolves and film noir, why don't they mix more often? 3. Antimony Carver from Gunnerkrigg Court. I stumbled upon the webcomic several years ago and fell instantly in love. The mix of mythology, alchemy and good, old fashioned powerful storytelling won me over in a heartbeat. But I may not have been able to get that far in, and look passed the somewhat (initially) odd art style if Annie wasn't half as interesting as she is. 4. Batman. He's on here already but I mean, what little kid doesn't wish they were Batman at somepoint in their life?

Rendal has become a bomb. A single citizen of Ul'dah flees in terror!

I'd be down to get ahold of Snow's bandanna or Lightning's ponytail. ..and so would everyone else.
-
Yeah. It could get out of hand pretty quickly. I think this is kind of a special case since during E3 it was revealed (to the 14 team's surprise!) that Lightning was given a miqo'te rse set for 13-3. I wouldn't be surprised if this is largely the end of it, and was dealt with as a sort of dream sequence or something. That being said, I am happy that Gilgamesh will be the universe hopper he was in all the other games, though.
-
Wait... lightning herself will be in game? I LOVE CROSSOVERS! Right? This isn't official or anything so until word comes out from Yoshi or the website, take it with a grain of salt but: http://www.rpgsite.net/news/2488-final-fantasy-xiv-goes-final-fantasy-xiii-crossover-crazy "As part of the promotion, FF13 lead character Lightning will put in an appearance in the remade, relaunched version of FF14 as part of a specific, exclusive quest line related to the famous heroine." I wasn't a huge fan of 13, but Lightning is right up there as one of my favorite FF characters; the deal was sealed when she socked Snow.

Some respect please, this is addressed to all
CallmeYahweh replied to Gideon Aryeh's topic in RP Discussion
I think respect is due regardless of which side anyone is on in this debate, regardless of server choice. Yes, this is a small community, and yes, it will be even smaller when members migrate over to Gilgamesh. I don't see how this hurts anyone at all, however. No, long standing members of the RPC won't get to roleplay with Gilgamesh's population outside of Skype or the forums, but honestly, with so many people around, what are the odds of people actually roleplaying with everyone anyway? Disagreement and debate is, imo, healthy and part of a fully functioning community. Without people having opinions this would be a pretty boring place. But I'm not sure debating a choice that was made already is going to do any good other than stir up feelings. Especially on a topic as heated as this one. So, I echo what others have said before me: just treat each other decently. I've avoided this topic because I am a new member and honestly, it doesn't personally concern me. But I thought what the hell, might as well say my piece. So there it is. As a sidenote: Rock, you seem to have a solid head on your shoulders and I respect what you're doing to help establish Gilgamesh as a roleplaying server. Diggin' it, man. And to the RPC in general: I personally think what Kylin and the moderator staff has done to support the members who wish to start on a new server is awesome. This is a personal website as far as I'm aware and thus, it doesn't have to do anything. So kudos to you folks. I may be new but this is a damn good community and I'm happy to be here. -
Titan Egi! Coerthas looks amazing. I'm a sucker for snowy locations in videogames though. Digging a lot of the Garlean locations, too. The Ceruleum Processing Plant has some serious FF7 vibes going on.

I've got to say, I thought I'd be a little weirded out by the idea of different Final Fantasys bleeding into ARR but I am surprisingly okay with it. The armor looks good, the weapons are cool (that gunblade hrrrghn) and apparently they're gained through a quest involving Lightning herself, and not through some silly mircrotransaction deal. Seems solid to me. I am hype!

OC Remix albums tend to be cream of the crop when it comes to fanmade remixes. Some of these guys are seriously talented. I've got Balance and Ruin queued up to listen. The only question is, am I ready.

This is my new favorite thread. I love reading about the process behind people's characters. Hear, hear! I am a junky when it comes to mythology and Arthurian legend is right up there as one of my favorites. I caught you at the Blue Skies event last weekend, playing Wart and was curious if that's where the name came from. Tre cool. For Rendal, the name was just a temporary one while I partook in beta festivities. It comes from, laughably, Dark Souls. One of the minor background characters, Knight King Rendal. When I found out that there was, indeed, a roleplaying community to this game, I knew Rendal wouldn't stick so I had to scramble to come up with a reason why he had a very unMiqo'te sort of name. That became a huge part of his backstory though, and a major defining trait of his character; V'ahal Tia ran away from home, got wrapped up in some bad dealings in Ul'dah, enlisted to help out in the battle of Carteneu, but because ultimately, he is a coward, he ran from it before the fighting started proper. To help erase that part of his life, he adapted a new name, and Rendal was born.

Blue Skies Event: Horizon Crossing (temp Gilgamesh, perma Balmung)
CallmeYahweh replied to Merri's topic in Chronicled Events
Like the first one, this event was a blast. And, like the first one, having been on the organizing side of events like these in previous games, I want to dole out a huge helping of THANK YOU, and YOU'RE AMAZING to the folks who ran and organized this thing. Hectic, is I think, putting it lightly. I had a rough time at first getting my grips with how fast the chat was scrolling due to all the people talking and enjoying themselves but once things died down a little and I got used to it, I started to get into the swing of things. No pictures to share unfortunately but I do spot Rendal in a few of those! -
The Hunting Log, and FATEs really speed up the leveling process. A gold rank on a FATE gives a lot of XP, some gil, and (once you're there) a hefty chunk of seals from your Grand Company of choice. I'd definitely echo what everyone else is saying at this point: buy a hi-potion or two, an antidote, and be careful about your HP. Cure makes this incredibly easy I hear, as well, and have heard more than once of it just being totally cure tanked for the most part.
