Rules 1) Be Considerate! Don't make the group story suddenly revolve entirely around your character. Don't dominate core elements of the story without leaving it relatively open for others to build upon. Think of how your actions can potentially affect others OOC. 2) Be Inclusive! When you join Aeon, you should join knowing that it's expected for you to try and RP with everyone else in the group. Personal stories for you and your closest buddies are fine, but try your best to include everyone if you can - especially when it involves the Aeon storyline. Remember, Aeon is about collaboration! 3) Be Active! We don't expect you to actively chat and RP with us every single day. However, if you're going to be a part of the FC/LS, then be a part of the FC/LS. Chat with us every once in a while. RP in the LS once or twice a week, just enough for people to remember some interactions with your character. It doesn't take very much. If you're having trouble slipping into things for whatever reason, please feel free to contact Aurou Mhirata, K'ziyo Tia, Leon Greymoon, or Rei'li Niraj. They're happy to help you out! If you can't find the time to be an active member we will kindly recommend that you join a group more suited towards your interests. If you have a circumstance that keeps you from attending events please keep the Vanguards informed to stay in an 'active' status. 4) Communicate! Anytime there's an issue about anything - 9 times out of 10, the simplest way to resolve it is clear, polite, OOC communication. Just grab someone and talk to them! The officers are happy to help with mediation, if necessary. IC/OOC bleeding will only be given one warning before removal is enforced. 5) Don't Be Butthurt! The story belongs to everyone, so feel free to experiment with it! HOWEVER - know that what you do may get retconned if it locks someone out of RP or makes it too hard for everyone else to participate in the story. 6) Don't be a Dick. Seriously. Don't do it. In the event someone may have possibly acted like a dick, but it isn't entirely clear, Aeon runs with a 3-strikes rule. However, one instance of clear and unquestionable douchebaggary will result in immediate removal from the FC and Linkshell. Period. Policy Members MUST be 18+. No exceptions. Aeon engages in a wide variety of RP, some of which may include mature themes. We will not censor anything which could potentially add to character development, plot progression, or fun RP drama. That said, ‘mature themes’ does not include an endorsement for ERP. Please keep such RP out of public view and reserved for private channels. You are responsible for making / finding your own RP. Aeon holds a wide variety of events to help our members get involved in new and established plots, as well as giving them opportunities to interact and build relationships with their FC/LS mates. Regardless, we encourage all of our members to be proactive and assertive in creating their own opportunities for fun and rewarding roleplay, because free and frequent RP is how RP communities flourish! To that end, you will find ample support in creating and running storylines and events here in Aeon. Characters must be appropriately named. For the sake of plausibility and immersion, we will only consider applicants who have a name either in accordance with the established FFXIV lore, or a fantasy setting in general. Inappropriate or offensive names, or names taken from existing characters in other franchises, will not be allowed. Don’t be the RP police. Fun comes first in Aeon, and anything that can potentially lead to fun is usually something we endorse. To this end, we support a wide variety of storytelling and play styles, including that which can sometimes bend (but not break) the lore. As long as there is a plausible reason for your choice, we will be behind it. If you are not comfortable with lore-bending, or if you personally wish to remain 110% faithful to the lore, that is fine – but please do not nitpick, attack, lecture, or flame those who do not share your adherence. Don’t be the PvE police, either. Simply put, Aeon is not a progression guild. Our focus is on hardcore RP and event-based storytelling. Members are more than encouraged to pursue their own PvE interests at their own pace, and we will endeavor to support each other in any and all dungeon-based needs. However, some members have no interest in endgame, min-maxing, gearing up, perfecting rotations, or other similar pursuits. Offering these members unsolicited advice or commenting on their playstyle is absolutely not ok. Similarly, while it is fine to share with us your PvE achievements so that we can celebrate them with you, we will not tolerate excessive bragging about your endgame progress. Maintain positive engagement with the community. Remember that as a part of Aeon, you are wearing our tag next to your name and thus are representing us to the rest of the server community at large. It is expected that you will remain respectful at all times in public chat channels, linkshells, dungeon parties, alliances, and on forums. There is never an excuse to treat other players poorly. A 90-day absence means removal. We understand that sometimes, RL happens. If it does, all you need to do is leave us a quick forum post informing us of your absence, and roughly how long you mean to be gone -- we'll hold your spot in the guild for you. If, however, you do not give us a warning of your absence and you are gone for 90 days, you will be removed from the guild to help maintain a tidy roster. Once you return, just send one of the officers a tell and you'll be invited right back in. Coordinate with someone before rescue RP. Every once in a while, it's fun to have your character get in to trouble and have others come rescue them. If you want to have this happen, please either plan it in advance or simply ask in OOC-chat if anyone is up for some random rescue RP. You are in the clear as long as you have at least one group member on board with what you would like to do. Spontaneous rescue RP with the intent of forcing people to drop what they're doing and come after you, however, is very selfish and generally not cool. We want to come find you, but please, be considerate of others and what RP they may already be involved in first.

What is Aeon? The story of Aeon is an original concept set within the lore of FFXIV's world, Hydaelyn. Eras ago, a powerful aetherial weapon was shattered into countless pieces by a band of heroes. To prevent it from ever being remade and wielded, a spell was cast over the shards of the weapon; each would travel through the aether to find sanctuary within the body of a soul who would act as its host and guardian until their dying day. Those who bear a shard develop a distinctive runic mark on their skin, and as such have come to be known in certain esoteric circles as the Branded. These marks forge a unique connection between the Branded, gifting them with the ability to ‘see’ each other over vast distances, and share thoughts and experiences over their telepathic Link. The existence of the Branded is not a complete secret, however. There are many who would seek to collect the shards and take their power for their own. If our play times ever cross paths, I have 17 year old Seeker boy. He's stubborn as can be and more or less a typical rebellious teenager. K'zhiroh Tia is a part time performer/part time whatever-he-can-do-for-gil who is trying to figure out where he fits in this world. He has two older brothers (rp'd by friends) that dote upon him more than he cares for. He's the youngest of five brothers (three maternal and one paternal), but grew up on his own - with the recent reuniting with his brothers he's just not quite sure what to think. He enjoys causing mischief and seeing how quickly he can push someone's buttons. Zhiroh often puts on a disinterested face and tries to act tough, but once one gets to know him better they might see there is more to him than that. He is an alt character (thus an unfilled wiki page), but I've been spending about 50% of my time on him over the past couple of months. Welcome back to Eorzea! I have a younger Seeker Tia secondary character if you would like a contact S'hatsuho's own age. K'zhiroh Tia is a 16 year old from the Hyperion tribe that resides in Thanalan. His only significance to his tribe currently is that his older brother is a Nunh trying to rebuild their sect of the tribe that has fallen upon hard times. Zhiroh is something of an outcast, currently trying to figure out where his own path in life lies. He can be bratty and self-centered, but is extremely over-protective of the family that he has left, which he has only found in recent moons. ((I have a complete backstory, he has several PC family members - the tribe is the creation of another friend!)) PM me if you are interested, I also have a Discord account. I'm EST, but mainly evening/night. I spend a majority of my time on my main - but if anyone ever wants to RP with Zhiroh I have no problem jumping over to him as long as we don't have an event that needs Aurou in attendance! I would love to have more contacts for this little bab, I really enjoy playing him and just don't ever have enough opportunity to do so.

Your main concern should be keeping everyone *within* your FC happy. As long as that's happening and you all are enjoying your RP, your environment, and your company who cares about the rest? Don't let the random salt get you down, because that's exactly what it's intended to do. Ruin your fun. Ignore it. Blacklist the random hate /tell senders and do not dignify them with a response. If you let them know that they are getting to you they will continue to harass you. Eventually, if you just let it all drop, they will get bored and move on to something else.

[align=center]AT LONG LAST, AEON RECRUITMENT IS OPEN AGAIN![/align] That's right, friends~ We are opening for applications with hopes of welcoming a few new members prior to Stormblood's release! The past four months have flown by quickly for us as we've continued with our FC MSQ. We hold major events at least monthly and often have smaller supporting and other member run events in between. Recently we've welcome a new Vanguard to our Officer team to better support our EU and late night members~ Long time member Rei'li Niraj graciously stepped up to the task and has been a wonderful addition thus far! As mentioned in previous posts, our FC family covers A LOT of time zones, though our main events are often run in GMT-5 (EST) evenings. With Revolution calling in Doma and Ala Mhigo, I have a feeling several personal stories are going to twist and turn, guiding some members to leave Eorzean soil. Our members shape the way that Aeon's story flows so who knows what's on the horizon for our MSQ as a whole! I'm just going to add one thing, most of my thoughts have been said more eloquently by other people already. SE has done a decent job portraying rape in as respectful manner as possible, in my opinion. It's not plastered all over the place, and the few instances where it is hinted at aren't too glaring. I haven't noticed any overly violent connotations about it, nor have I noticed the disparity between races coming in to play (ie not a Roe taking advantage of a 'cutesey midget'). In a game centered around war, SE has managed to touch upon a lot of darker topics without being terribly distasteful. And this is a game centered around war. Those cutesy midgets are some of the most dastardly in the first part of the game, honestly. Real world talk for a moment... just because there is a large female representation in the military does not mean that sexism is banished. As a woman in the armed forces, I've spent more hours learning how anything but a sober 'yes' is not to be taken as consent and equals rape than I would care to think about. It's a real problem, even as the number of women in the military continues to grow. As long as there are people looking for ways to take advantage of others, it will always be a problem no matter what the equation is.

This is pretty much the reason for our application being a more involved one - we want to make sure that people fit in and personalities won't clash. Our application has saved us a few times, some people get salty as hell and show true colors when denied. A majority are very sweet and take denial with grace and understanding, but the ones that don't... the hate is real. It really makes you wonder what would happen had person X been allowed into the FC and got into a disagreement or something went sour. The couple open invite groups that I've been in had more than their fair share of drama and headbutting that I don't care to revisit again. Those groups ended up feeling like a chore or job to be involved in.

Hey U'nalmi, Thank you for the question, sorry if things are unclear. At this time recruitment is closed for general applications - by having it be 'Invitation Only' it allows for people that we've RP'd with in passing or have had a good past experience with to submit an application still. In short, a current member would need to invite you to submit an application and you would note that on the form. Applications submitted without an invite are not being looked at at this time. This is a temporary status while we are in the middle of our MSQ and are comfortable with our current member numbers. I hope that clears things up a bit? - Aurou

Hey Tagyr! Thanks for the question. Depending on the day we might have someone on at almost all hours if school or work isn't in the way of gaming time. While we live in timezones spanning from GMT-8 to GMT+2, some are night owls for their respective areas. I know there is generally someone around starting at like 10am EST to 4am EST (1500 GMT to 0900 GMT). As long as you don't fall in that odd 6 hour pocket of time there is usually company. - Aurou

Everyone here has given you wonderful advice thus far! Honestly there isn't too much more to add. The fact that you notice and are acknowledging that you might have a problem is also an amazing first step into setting things on a proper path. I lead a plot driven FC of 20ish members, we've found that smaller groups are best if you want the story to be meaningful. We are undeniably a picky group (for better or for worse). I have two other leaders that have full access to the plotline and help shape and move the story forward for everyone. We try to adjust the path as things happen, but overall have a planned outline. It's always our goal to have as many people involved in the stories as possible since our size is pretty manageable. Hype does wonders. You and your officers being excited is important. If you aren't excited, or don't show that you are, why would anyone else be? When we plan a major event we make a post about it on our forums, tack a message in our FC message thingy, sometimes we will drop small things into RP in the days leading to the event, and on the day of the event spam Discord so that everyone remembers. One of our leaders also makes nice little banners to pin to the messages, too. Time put into planning and advertising can really help. Trimming the fluff would probably be a good thing. These people joined your LS for this certain story and type of RP, right? If they are no longer interested, they need to move along. No harm, no foul. The best thing that you can do to encourage RP and prevent from becoming a social or purely slice of life/tavern group is to keep like-minded people in the LS. Do you keep a site for things? What about a Discord or Skype group? There isn't a day that goes by where we don't use Discord for chatting, RPing, planning, etc. Does everyone get along OOC? A huge part of our recruitment criteria has to do with how well a potential member will get along with the rest of the crew. (again, this is extremely important because we are on the smaller side). People are more likely to jump in on events when they are invested in the cause, the characters involved, or simply to support the people running it. We also poke eachother on Discord all the time - 'Hey, does anyone want to do this or that?' 'I want to RP!' 'Shit's going down, who's with me?' Sometimes being a leader is a thankless job. Keep lines of communication open with everyone. Have meetings (IC and OOC) with your group. Be open for change, and be ready to enforce rules if you need to. I personally recommend having 1 leader per 10-15 members. Always have someone around to answer questions, handle situations, etc. My leaders (I use this term loosely, the three of us are all on equal ground) and I talk about EVERYTHING. If there is a problem that one of us catches wind of, we bring it to leader chat and figure out how to best resolve the issue. Work together to figure out how to get over this RP dry-spell. The three of us collaborate and bounce ideas off of one another on our FC story and how to run each event. We offer to help with any events that our members want to run, as well. There will be times where not everyone agrees. There will be times where members feel like you're ignoring them, and vice versa. Again. Communicate as much as possible. When (and you really should) you go to prune membership, give everyone advanced notice of your intentions. "In 30 days we will be cutting down on our numbers. People that don't RP will be removed. If you still want to be here, show us that you do!" Have some sort of 'active member' policy and keep it enforced. There can always be exceptions, ie 'RL always comes first, let us know if something comes up - we will put you on a special no-clean list'. Make your intentions known and clear, discuss them with your leaders and membership in an OOC meeting. Hold an IC one, too, if that's how you do things. Really the best way to lead is to learn from the past. Try things out, and if they don't work change them just a little. Tweak things until you find what is just right for your group. Don't let yourself be too discouraged! Keep at it :moogle:
