If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Flynn Bladebreaker replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
The important note is the definitive "NO" on giving Balmung the RP server label. It's too big, too old and too diverse. That's not how I took this. I'll rewind it when the VOD is out but what was said was 1.) Dev team is 50/50 about adding RP labels to certain servers. 2.) Adding this labels is easy peasy and not an issue. 3.) They're holding back because of fear of RPers creating a toxic environment by asking non RPers to leave the servers because it's an RP server. At no point was it mentioned "We won't do this for Balmung." They want to be careful about toxicity. Tagging Balmung as it is is not being careful -

I'm happy with the answer. It's not a definite "no we aren't doing this", it's just about being careful. -
If SE would tag any server for RP, it would be an entirely new one. Tagging an existing one, the most popular one in fact, would be incredibly unfair to non-RPers, and RPers currently locked out. No one should be made to leave, they gotta be motivated like SE is doing by offering free transfers and perks to the new EU servers.

No. Connections exist because not everyone shares the same RP taste. No. And PING. DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE WORLD. The rest, we don't need to repeat ourselves over this again.
-
I think ya'll looking into it a little too much and being harsh on someone basically asking for help. It might have come off the wrong way of asking but do we need a whole page of it? At the end of the day, many people come from different communities where we aren't met with a locked server, we aren't met with an extra paywall to join. It doesn't matter how much it is to transfer, that's not the point. With a thread like this, makes you think is it really worth the fee anyway. Balmung is closed, Mateus is growing and it should have been done sooner. An EU place is also in the works. That's it, nothing more we can do at this point than go on in circles.

discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
Flynn Bladebreaker replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
As soon as Balmung was announced closed, I didn't see any concern about an EU server. It was straight for another NA one, which is all well and good but you know, I think it's about time our side of the pond get a place recognised and supported by the RPC as much as they supported Balmung. I understand there are some website limitations, but when you look at the FC/LS tabs, you see a Balmung section, Gilgamesh section (no Mateus yet?), and Other. It might change in the future, I don't really know, but as of now it doesn't give me a lot of faith that there is any support for EU players. I hope this changes once we pick one of the new servers. I've also heard some say Lich is already the unofficial EU RP server, but I can't find that anywhere unless it's through word of mouth, and that's definitely not a good way of letting the community know. -
This isn't fair on anyone who has been locked out for years. It's almost like Balmung is a VIP club and you have to pay a fee to get in. Sure, people will do it, but why should they? OP: If it helps, us EU peeps never got a say on what we'd like to be the unofficial server for our side of the water, even when the datacenters came in at a later time. Either we accept the bad ping (because it's 250+ for a lot of us now), or we fend for ourselves.
-
Now look where that's got us, and we're paying for it (literally with transfers, I'm really glad that's not an option anymore. I don't want people to pay extra just to get RP). This was needed earlier, hence why I suggested an EU RP designation when SE first offered free transfers to the EU datacenter, but even that was scrapped because people said "no we should stay on Balmung where it's all at."
-
Currently there is Mateus over on NA's side, and if you're looking for an EU one it might be worth waiting until Stormblood when the new EU servers are live. One of them will be designated the unofficial EU RP server by the community and it's possible a good portion of the EU crowd will build up there over time.
-
Guess we're all waiting on SE to give us more info on these transfers before we can take some solid action. I hope Mateus turns out well for you guys, and I hope the EU crowd gets the similar treatment for one of the new servers. (also that thread seems to downvote anything RP related or even having an opinion of Balmung. I've ventured on different EU servers, met alts there, and all of them are creeped out by the server)

Is RP just a way for people to hook up these days?
Flynn Bladebreaker replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
This is something we shouldn't have to do though, strangely. Indicating that we RP should really be enough. -

I think it's fine to have this kind of reaction. I can't say whether RP has changed or not for other people, but for me it has and it comes down to what you're used to seeing. Before last year, most of my RP didn't involve as much sexual content as you would see today. Sure, my character got with someone around the start of 2.0, but that wasn't our goal. It just happened and we still continued with our stories. Anything ERP related, we kept it completely to ourselves. Before that, ERP and relationships were looked down on in the RP communities I was used to. I welcome them, but like real life I don't want it in my face. After coming back to the RP scene after a break, it did baffle me going to events that were slice of life, fight clubs, tavern openings, etc. Roughly around 15 people. But when I was helping a new RPer in the game, we had a job done, got wounded, I took him to Bronze Lake to get healed (because that's where war veterans go), but there was a date auction (and orgy) there and it was literally full. I think I counted 50+ people, and I mean full as in you couldn't see the water. Lore wise, I found it disrespectful, but it kind of tells me is this what the majority of people are really into. Sadly this new RPer was uncomfortable as this wasn't what he was expecting or used to seeing, and neither was I. TL;DR Your reaction is perfectly normal IMO. -
discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
Flynn Bladebreaker replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
Whatever gets picked, I really hope it becomes like an EU Balmung. As in like, people searching for a server get pointed towards Balmung. Now people looking for an EU server get pointed towards this new one just as easily. There are other small EU pockets to choose from, but I feel due to RPC limitations those don't get as much notice. If any mods read this, do you think it would be possible when the RPC gets upgraded to have a site banner that says "NA servers: " and "EU servers: " or something similar? Top of the list being the most known popular? Doesn't have to be a banner but something similar in design that just says "here are the servers we support". It's getting me excited knowing we'll have an official unofficial EU place. EDIT: After making an alt in Odin and talking about RP with some people there, they are mostly alts and are also on board with moving to one of the new EU servers once it gets designated and advertised -

They will work with enough attention and support from the community. Just like Balmung, minus SE's hardware capabilities which is forcing us to pick an extra place. But what do I know, I'm not an expert. -

We shouldn't be trying to get non-RPers off the server. SE are working on ways to transfer whole FCs, gil, housing, etc. -
I think we actually petitioned this to the RPC before 2.0 launched. It never took off, sadly, and we were told "all the RPers will be on Balmung so there's no point splitting". At the same time, we had no EU datacenters, and by the time we got them most of us decided to stay. And then, well, this week.
-
Oh my god man. WE CANNOT STAY ON BALMUNG BECAUSE IT'S FULL. That is not going to change. If restrictions are lifted, it'll just get full again and then we're back to having this debate. We can certainly all stay on Balmung and encourage SE to alleviate any server population issue by either reversing the transfer ban (and implementing alternative population control measures if needed) or designating an official RP server. In fact, I'd go so far as to say this is the most probably scenario at the present time [see topic 3 in the OP]. I think it's unfortunate that some users seem to think that SE are demi-gods incapable of modifying their product to consumer demands. I suspect we could get an official RP server designated within 2 months if there was an organized and dedicated effort. Then go for it already. An official designation somewhere would be fantastic. But right now, we need to focus on getting people where they want to be. I would join people on the OF but my account has a lifetime ban for a simple meme.

And yes, an official designation would be nice. But we don't have one. So we have to make do for now by spreading and growing. That will not hurt the community. At all.

discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
Flynn Bladebreaker replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
I'm not expecting everyone to move, but I really do feel this will help current and new EU RPers who want a choice for latency and RP. As I said before since it looks like the most voted for is a new server, we don't know which one and when they're named we'll need to pick so the RPC can advertise it as such. -
Get this through your head. Balmung is full. They can't simply lift the restrictions. Even if they did people would still have to pay to transfer in. An official tag would be nice but until then we need to take action. We have a centralized hub, it's this website. RP can exist on more than one server, it doesn't all have to be on one. I wish it were but the server is simply full, and people exist on the other side of the lake.
-
Have you listened to anything that's been said? It cannot continue to be the only hub. It is literally full. They have said they will wait for the population to decline. We cannot wait until they take action, that's up to us to do something about it now while new people are locked out for who knows how long.
