  1. In terms of appearance? Gerel generally looks as she does in-game, give or take some lean muscle and height. But as for personality? She's got a kinder edge due to being Kha, and so has a good idea on how to assimilate into "civilized" society-- but she's still Xaela. There are "bestial" aspects that pop up when it comes to certain topics or situations, like battle and survival. You can take the Xaela out of the Steppe, and so on. It's a contrast I like playing with. For me, rather than emphasize physical characteristics, it's the culture and people that can push a Hyur-lookalike into something more interesting and engaging. Granted I've also seen some interesting RP that tackles the idea of Auri women being taller, more masculine, and more beastly (and they tend to use the male model for such a thing), or those who play a "sickly" guy who's the complete opposite and "defanged" in a sense (usually by using a female model).
  2. I'd say that your aforementioned idea works well enough. Could also be a personal mission to gather information about the outside world. As a few of the quests showed, understanding each other is vital--maybe your Qestir wants to get ahead of the curve. Then maybe there's just a personal desire to get away from the Steppe and see what's beyond their borders. I imagine that with all that's happened, more and more of the Xaela will likely grow curious about what kind of world their guests came from, and how it forged them into who they are.
  3. All of the Disciples of War classes/jobs utilize Aether to an extent to augment their capabilities, though in differing ways. Do Warriors and Paladins likely have a greater physical presence? I'd say that's pretty certain. But, Aether is what pushes them past normal standard and into "I can take that demigod's fist to the face." Aether is also the defining factor in -how- they act as protective wards. Different mindsets and goals equal varying "origins" and methods in which their magick manifests. It's why Warriors and Paladins aren't the same.
  4. From the official forums: "Hello There's been a lot of talk regarding the North American and Japanese promotional campaigns. We are working to setup campaigns in PAL regions with the new in-game items. They will also be available for purchase on the Mog Station at a later date. We will share more information as soon as it becomes available. Please note that the North American and Japanese item codes won’t work on EU accounts." Source
  5. M_epoUlyzGM Been listening to this a lot as I have Gerel gear up for Stormblood.
  6. I'll toss my Xaela into the mix. Gerel's been in Eorzea since the first wave of refugees, and she's picked up a few things in her travels. And! She's always willing to help out a fellow Kha. Feel free to shoot me a message in-game whenever--name's exactly what you'd expect.
  7. I figure it would be something that was trained and honed as well. The muscular tail given not only to genetics but years of swimming, an increased perception of underwater vibration and currents from spending a suitable amount of time to learn the subtle differences and feels. It's something I'm very fascinated with. It seems totally doable to me but since lore is so thin I worry about becoming unrealistic! I don't see why a Raen can't be just as skilled. Maybe they come from a fishing-oriented family and developed the same type of attributes through years of hard work--might even have a small home by the One River. So go for it! Sounds like you're excited, and I don't see a single issue with it. Fishy Raen, go.
  8. Something to keep in mind is that the Ejinn, the Xaela tribe you're referencing, likely develop their aquatic skills through practice and training--it's less about the tails, and more about holding their breath. Something like that? You hone. They just have tradition placing a greater importance on it. If you want a Raen who's more comfortable/adaptable with water? I see no reason why they can't be, and there's a variety of reasons/explanations you can use.
  9. For the most part, I know that a lot of Xaela tend to hang out in front of the Quicksand in Ul'dah as a meeting place, near the gate to Central Thanalan. I think there's also a weekly gathering of Qalli (though I believe generally all Xaela are welcome) on Sundays. http://clansarant.enjin.com/ And, of course, I'll go ahead and plug my own character as somebody who's (usually) always willing to talk with another Xaela wherever and whenever. So go ahead and shoot me a whisper if you're ever interested, and we can work something out!
  10. "Seolc" is apparently another word for "silk." Huh. Anyway, I'm not really gonna weigh in on the Dragoon revelations--most of the points I would've addressed/added have been stated. I'll just hope there's clarifications and-or revisions due to localization errors.
  11. As a word of warning: I haven't leveled Bard yet, and so most of my knowledge is coming from what I could quickly look up. But! Let's see. From what I could gather, a Bard's songs--a true Bard's songs, at any rate--were heavily influenced and given power via the raw emotion and empathy they poured into their works. This emotion? Generally came from the horrors they were forced to watch as archers for the Gridanian military. Over time? This gave birth to magical songs that helped to boost the morale of those they watched over. Now, how could that translate into somebody who wants to put on shows? To go with the month's current theme, maybe they use their own fears to sing a song that conjures up the dread and apprehension in whoever is listening--gets them invested in the universal feeling of being afraid. In the end? I think the most important part is to look at your character's history for the greatest inspiration. What drives them? What have they seen and done? How can this resonate with the people they're attempting to reach? Now, when it comes to Aether? Maybe a little bit of applied glamour magic? Could use fireworks/sparklers to simulate some illusionary colors and such that match the tone and theme of what your character is going for. There's also the more extravagant ones like the Rising-centric items.
  12. In Othard? The desire to be a hero that everybody respected and feared. In Eorzea? To simply help and learn.
  13. Gerel's immediate response to anything that surprises or sneaks up on her is to put a gap between them so that she can study her attacker and prepare a counter. After seeing that it's just a prank, she'd probably stare in silence as she quells her embarrassment--then laugh. She likes a good joke.
  14. I don't think I've ever had a character actively finish something that I'd categorize as a life goal. Largely because the original goal changes as time goes on, and so it just keeps growing and growing, extending into the far, far future. In the event it ever did happen, though, I think they'd just find another one. If Gerel finally decided she was done following the Path? She'd just find something else that suits her, and make that the new target of her passion. Maybe she'd dive into her love of food and open up a restaurant, or try and become a writer (after learning how to read and write in the first place). The thing about following a life goal is that we eventually discover other avenues we could pursue, and over the course of it all, gain a wider and broader foundation to build upon. So I guess the way I see it? One door shuts, and dozens more spring up, wide open. The more you RP a character, the more you may find them growing in unexpected ways. Maybe the former gladiator, after winning all the wealth they could ever need and exhausting the glory, decides to take up teaching. All 'cause a random Lalafell mentioned they might be suited for it one night after a few drinks.
  15. Definitely guilty of the bolded. I'll also add that I personally say what my character does (and mimic -how- they say), at times, to make sure it sounds "natural."
  16. Gerel's "general" theme. Why? Because she's now in the West, working and doing her best to make ends meet and provide for her family--while enjoying all the new adventures, of course. EgQpRvADWNA For a battle theme? I usually go with something uplifting and hopeful, with an underlying "primal" dance tone to it, since she enjoys and values her ability to fight. Also, look for the version with vocals if you give it a listen. Really, really good. M3x7Hpmz8Tc
  17. I try to approach it with a healthy balance: I have Gerel use abilities that're related to her specific profession, but at the same time, occasionally diverge from what's established to give her a sense of individualism. It's good to keep the base of a class as the foundation, but I also feel you shouldn't let that act as a restriction. It's good to experiment a little. Granted, I don't use the actual ability names often. Would be a little weird (if funny) if she just went around Bootshining everybody, or Demolishing them. But it's also important to note that a few abilities are named by the quest giver themselves as being known techniques of the specific guild/job mentor, so that's another thing to keep in mind.
  18. Well! I'm blown away. Thank you so much for doing this, and keep up the good work!
  19. Huh! Sounds good to me! Here's my Auri Wanderer: http://i.imgur.com/ct4aSc8.png
  20. XZDt-O6r7rM Mostly 'cause Gerel follows her version of "The Path." When Gavin put this out? It gave me ideas for what she hopes lies at the end. I've had it on repeat ever since. Just keep in mind that it has mild spoilers for The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine!
  21. Gerel Kha's sending in a flyer! Right after she gets somebody to read and write it for her.
  22. Yeah, but what if you wanted to do them IC? Do people really never RP adventuring at all? Some do, some don't. A lot of people like to separate their gameplay from their RP, to an extent, since they may not be an adventurer who's going around killing everything for the experience, rewards, and thrills.
  23. Hard to say, really. As some have said, they don't consider glamour much of a thing, even if it's canon. And SE themselves can be very hand-wavy/tongue-in-cheek with what they show/portray as being "possible." For example: the only instance of quickchanging I can think of within the game's narrative? Belongs to the one and only Godbert Manderville. Granted, the man just instantly loses clothing in general. But yeah. Is quickchanging possible in a lore sense? Maybe. But there's no hard-and-fast proof that it absolutely is. In this case? Go with what your FC has been comfortable with, up until now. If the new recruit is adamant about it being a thing, and there's no compromise, then I think they'd be happier finding something else that suits their style more. Props to actually doing some digging, though.
  24. The three most common Xaela tribes I see are Dotharl, Malaguld, and Kha--throw a stone at the Quicksand, and you're likely to hit one of 'em. Me included! Ejinn, Borlaaq, Arulaq, and Himaa are the close seconds. If you wanna play a Xaela who may have a bunch of influences to draw upon, you could always go with Kahkol: a tribe of orphans and refugees from defeated or destroyed tribes. That way, you can keep the self-made tribe and practices without running into (as many) issues regarding conflicting info and fanon from other tribes. You get to do your own thing, to a degree, while putting yourself in the shoes of an established tribe. Another thing you can do if you choose to go with the self-made tribe is put up a post explaining it, after you've worked out details. Maybe some lone Xaela wanderers have crossed paths with your tribe, or others will find the concept interesting enough to work with you on it. To sum it all up, though, from everything in this thread? Xaela are hard, man.
  25. zZiYFFDGoh0 What can I say, it's a classic for me.
