  1. The up and coming Eorzean Economic Company was founded by a group of traders with mysterious origins. Rather suspiciously, their influence and profits have grown quickly in a short amount of time. Nefarious rumours surround their rise to fortune; some say they hire mercenaries to eliminate the competition whilst others dare to claim dark magic is involved. In hopes of distracting the public from these shocking accusations, the EEC has taken advantage of the festivities surrounding the Moonfire Faire to host a carnival on the sandy beaches of Costa del Sol. Location: Costa del Sol, Eastern La Noscea Date: Saturday 21st September Time: 19:00 UK (time zone conversion) Dress code: Swimwear Attractions: Moonfire Angler Derby - Who can fish up the biggest catch in 15 minutes? Open entry and a prize for the winner; just bring your fishing rod. Mysterious Hypnosius - Astounding arcane feats and dazzling magic displays for your entertainment! A Night at the Improv - Our talented ensemble will put on a play with no holds barred. Who knows how the night will end? Security: Any mercenaries interested in helping provide security for the carnival can contact T'yareth Sehn. If you need a point of contact for OOC questions or concerns during the event, I will be on my alt, T'yareth Sehn, and Taeh Marchand will be on Kaylel Wilder.
  2. Ah Korin, I've been on both sides in the past. It's nerve wracking to approach someone, on one hand, and if you're busy RPing with someone else, it's difficult to tear yourself away. I do however go out of my way to respond to newcomers and have even stretched Rinh's character a bit (with the IC reason that her partner is always nagging her to be nicer) and had her approach the ones sitting by themselves, hoping someone will notice them. I agree that sometimes you have to do things you wouldn't normally do in real life so people without OOC connections can join the RP. I'm not averse to arranging things beforehand and coming up with an IC reason for it. Maybe that's not hardcore, I don't know, but I've been left out in the cold myself in the past so I know there needs to be effort on both sides if we want new RPers to feel welcome. Besides, RPing solely with your circle of friends can get stale over time and new blood will spice things up!
  3. I think I wasn't as clear as I should have been earlier and also misunderstood Lament, Zyrusticae and others. It seemed to me like some were saying you should just ignore people whose RP doesn't fit your head canon (because let's face it, the lore isn't always clear and sometimes it comes down to head canon) or RP in a different style, which I thought was unfair. I wasn't trying to say that you should make yourself uncomfortable, not by any means, nor reduce yourself to a prop to stroke the ego of an "all powerful hero". I merely meant I won't outright reject someone for small lore conflicts or beginner's mistakes. Obviously if the RP is extremely OTT, ridiculous, or upsets me in some way (for example, grimdark RP can make me uncomfortable), then yes, choosing not to RP with them is certainly an option. As for using the game's story in your RP, I don't actually include any of it myself but I can understand why a new RPer might. Again, I wouldn't completely write them off for it but perhaps respond with scepticism and explain why OOC. Now if their RP revolved around the story and had nothing else to it, well, that's a different problem. Choosing not to RP with someone who merely boasts about killing Titan all the time isn't unreasonable, no. Sorry if I jumped to conclusions. I've just seen elitism destroy communities in the past and didn't want to see the same happen here.
  4. Wow, that's a bit harsh. It's part of the game's story! Like I said before, what of new players who just work with the lore that is given them in game and don't see this post on the RPC? Are RPers here really that exclusive? It seems isolationist and elitist to me. Some of the comments here leave a bad taste in my mouth.
  5. Five, blimey! I have one and I feel like I'm losing my mind! My 4 year old also plays with me, running around on his chocobo in Costa del Sol whilst I keep the bad mobs away. Someone tried RPing with him the other day as he spammed the 'joy' emote and I had to explain haha. Welcome aboard and feel free to poke me on Rinh Hallani if you're in Balmung! ^^
  6. Found a lot of random RP in Costa del Sol and Camp Bronze Lake. There were also a few in each of the major cities, Gridania having the most, but sitting around in your swimming costume appears a popular pastime for RPers!
  7. Category A: You, OOCLY 1. Miqo'te females and males and Highlander females. Miqo'te are just too pretty and Highlanders, mmm, they look yummy with a hint of roughness....er...ahem. 2. I don't really care as long as there isn't a huge size discrepancy. If I saw a lalafell female and a roegadyn male, I'd probably wonder how she survived! 3. Not really, but again, I don't care much either way in the first place. It's really down to size and physical logistics, but even then, if there's an obvious connection with personalities, well, 'life finds a way' haha. Category B: Your character 1. Rinh does prefer fellow miqo'te but she's not averse to other races. 2. She hasn't seen interracial couples at all yet but I can't imagine she'd have much of an opinion about it. She's not so much live and let live, but 'I don't care unless it's me'.
  8. I've been on the receiving end of hostility towards a different style of RP. It's not nice. I'm a good RPer! I'm not too modest to say that, but nor am I the best, and I'm very open to adapting, adjusting and learning. Perhaps as a result, I'm very forgiving of so-called RP sins. In a RP community, if you close yourself off to an entire group of people just because you don't play the same way they do, I think you're losing out. I've come across people new to RP, and it clearly showed, but many of them improved and became fantastic RPers over time. I try very hard not to write people off, no matter how dire it seems at first. For that matter, I would imagine some, if not most, new players are not so hip on the lore. Turning them away because they haven't seen the lengthy discussions on the RPC and just rolled with what the game presented to them is short sighted in my opinion. You could've brushed off a really amazing RPer just because they ICly have the Echo or claimed to have defeated a primal. It's not their fault if the game makes it complicated to incorporate the story of said game into their RP. TL;DR: As a matter of course, I try to include everyone unless there's a very good reason not to do so. Your mileage may vary but I've met some great friends and RPers this way.
  9. What are you looking for, then? Rinh has family but not any ties to player characters. From what I understand, a few families would live in the same area and form a clan, so do you want to link families that way?
  10. I'll admit it bothers me a bit but, as mentioned, there are lots of miqo'te women who are quite the opposite. The arcanist quests in particular were brilliant in my opinion. I really loved how a 'weak female' miqo'te came into her own and saved the day, reducing her foe to a blumbering fool. Hah!
  11. Welcome aboard! Taeh's already mentioned Europa but I thought I'd point out the website for Eorzean Union, a PVE/PVP FC for EU players.
  12. Yes the summoner job isn't easy to dance around. Personally, I've been RPing that Rihn can summon a primal's energy but haven't actually said I've defeated Ifrit or whatever.
  13. Totally unrelated but I love watching this romance between Lost and Siobhain blossom. *giggle*
  14. I've got a Seeker alt who I haven't RPed much yet so her story is quite open to new connections. Give me a poke on T'yareth Sehn, or if I'm not actively playing her at the mo, Rinh Hallani.
  15. Hi there! Rinh is a Keeper of the Moon and has quite a few Keeper friends so feel free to add me. I'll add you on skype as well.
  16. Ooh, congratulations on getting shortlisted! I'm glad things are going well for you and hope you enjoy Prague. We'll miss you, and will definitely try to be miserable and desolate without you haha, but looking forward to seeing you again when you return. Happy early birthday for Saturday and have a lovely time!
  17. Yep, 100% this. The one thing that's put me off tanking is the "tank is god" mentality. You're expected to know the most efficient path through the dungeon, the tactics for every boss, spot a pat a mile away, hold aggro over dps who're targeting the wrong mob, bake a cherry pie whilst standing on your head, etc. It's a hell of a lot of responsibility to pile onto one role. It wouldn't be quite so bad if you were allowed to make mistakes as you learn but more often than not you get slammed in the face by a rage train. If people want more tanks and shorter queues, they should work together as a team, share some of the responsibility and offer helpful tips to new or struggling tanks rather than shouting at them.
  18. That link was very useful, thank you! I love romance but Rinh is quite snippy, blunt and abrasive. It takes a very determined, very understanding person to break through all the walls she's put up. I never set out with the goal of getting her into a relationship but it's definitely opened up an interesting avenue of RP now that she has. I've had sickly sweet romances in the past as well but I have found this darker, conflict-based romance more rewarding, personally. As for ERP and PDA, I don't mind the former so long as it's private and between consenting adults, nor the latter as long as it isn't excessive. A quick kiss here, holding hands there, sure, but don't make it become your character's sole reason for existence. I think it has the potential to deepen a relationship and the RP but of course it depends on the person. Now I wonder if my Seeker alt will wander the wilds alone or find a certain someone?
  19. I would love to be involved in something like this.
  20. I know right? I was ranting about this earlier today haha.
  21. Cool! Anybody else want in? I'll set up a chat if I get a couple more people interested. I'll also ask round in the linkshell when I get online tonight.
  22. I think using [EU] for posts and calendar entries will work but I wonder if it would be nice to have a place to discuss and plan future events. Maybe people interested in helping out with events could get in touch and I can make a skype chat for it? Anyone up for that?
  23. Welcome aboard from another UK player! If you want a good way to get in touch with fellow EU RPers, you might want to check out Europa. We're all friendly and happy to help folks new to RPing in MMOs. ^^
