  1. Your drawings are quite nice  Great job!
  2. Forums aren't everyone's cup of tea, but at least you know where to come when you need a hot steaming cup of...role player community, I guess Thanks for introducing yourself. You might just find enough interesting stuff to keep you coming back in a somewhat frequent manner
  3. (Wow, that was certainly a lot of work! You have a good sense for detail, and your words flow well . Thank you for sharing your work...I write stuff and post too, so I know how potentially nerve-wracking it can be I'm always one to support a fellow story poster...nice job  )

    Hiya!

Wow, travel between Dubai and California...one can only imagine what kind of work you do :surprise: Looks like you have a few plans for yourself already as far as a character is concerned. If you are unclear on anything, or would like the aid of the community to clarify or discuss some fine point with you, feel free to ask Good luck, and I hope to meet you in game !
  5. I myself wish I had cornered the market on Miqo'te racial starting equipment...I'd never have to work another day in my life . And here are a couple Duskwights following up to show you what you missed . Of course, I jest... Nice to have you aboard, regardless ! You introduced yourself quite well; don't look like much of a wallflower to me.
  6. Looks like baby got into the zinc oxide
  7. Pastry and baking :surprise:! Well well, there was another thread regarding cake decorating somewhere around here (I'd link it, but it'll be funner if you look ) Rp will happen where it will, so there can be role play on Ultros if you make it so  Just in case there is some confusion in your Balmung/Gilgamesh choice, non-legacy people can create new characters on the "legacy" server Balmung...many new people here are. Don't know if you thought it wasn't possible, or if you had another reason. Gilgamesh is the non-legacy server. Wherever you end up, good luck in your search for role play !
  8. Seven clans so far listed in the Duskwight Clans wiki. Six listed for Balmung, one is Gilgamesh...it should be a lot of fun to interact with each other  !
  9. (Just as a side note, this short story was motivated by FreelanceWizard's RP prompt, "Tonight I dine upon..." . Its sort of a little tale about perception and intent, but I also figure that folk who live a primarily subterranean existence might have a wee different idea of what acceptable edible proteins might be )
  10. Finally, someone with a mask creepier than mine  And really, English is not your primary language :surprise: !?! When you say "meatballs", do you mean Italian-style meatballs, or some SE Asian type? Thanks for introducing yourself, hope you feel welcome here
  11. Eh, that's not really fair. Your real life race isn't exactly something you can pick and choose, but you can in a video game. Naw, its fair...true, you can't chose your race, but you absolutely can choose your location, and that can effect the racial representation of those around you, and the diversity of your surroundings. Having lived in Korea for 4 years (and not being Asian) made me the almost the literal Hyur in a sea of Miqo'te That wasn't anything more than a bit of throwaway comment for fun about taking that thought process into real life, and was only applicable to the "real life" part, anyways :dodgy: I would still say that, at least for me, my happiness with what I'm playing is going to outweigh any displeasure at what others won't be doing for me by making themselves a more diverse community racially. Can't really effect what others do, alas :dodgy:. You changing your own character to your "B" choice isn't going to make anyone else do the same, so the ability to run into more cultural diversity throughout the remainder of the player base won't be modified or enhanced by your unilateral choice. Given that others will play what they will, I stand by one playing what makes them happy and can relate to as being the way to go .
  12. Welcome Evi! There's a lot of information found within these forums, and many a discussion regarding various aspects of the game, so there's a lot here that will help bring you up to speed on some of the differences and occurrences between 1.0 and ARR. Glad you took the time to introduce yourself, hope to be able to RP with you in the future
  13. Hey wait, LeCard...you're pretty much describing Isobeau as well in your rundown of "evil mastermind" characteristics. Am I not the epitome of a pure and wholesome Duskwight visage here  ?!?
  14. I always wonder how often this thought process carries over to real life..."There are too many white people here in my home country of Sweden. I think I'll move to Uganda, where I'll stand out more." A class glut is one thing, because it potentially effects one's actual mechanical gameplay experience, with the lessened ability to get into groups with a particular role, etc. But race really shouldn't matter to anyone else but the player it seems to me (especially in FFXIV, where any racial advantages are really negligible), so my suggestion is that one goes with what makes them happy to play. As you can see, the majority of everyone else seems to be doing just that
  15. (You follow my Twelve of choice...must be an elegant, sophisticated Duskwight thing . You have a wonderful way with words, and I enjoyed the tale. Thank you for sharing that with us  )
  16. I was motivated by this particular topic to do a bit more exploring of Isobeau's culinary peculiarities... Enjoy
  17. "It's a citrus, Pin. The grocer said it would be like biting into a slice of the sun." Guttering oil lamps caused flickering umbra to dance across the three irregular orange orbs cupped in Isobeau's hands. The huge cavern was alive with the activity of adults, but in this little corner of shadow and stone, two Duskwight youths huddled together, contemplating this new and unusual treasure from the world above. By now, Isobeau was old hat when it came to life in the huge local hub of civilization, having by then accompanied her Grand-pere on trading forays within the majestic confines of Ul'dah's walls a whopping three times. The first time she had ventured within that great collective of desert society had almost ended rather poorly for her, but she was older and wiser now, and (in her head) impervious to further troubles. She fancied that as she strolled the streets of the markets, lagging as far as possible behind the porters and Grand-pere as to appear alone, most of the various vendors and browsers would not even entertain the foggiest notion that she was not one of them; a sophisticated city dweller in her own element. After all, was she not just the newly-awarded beneficiary of one of her aunt's very best hand-me-down tunics (tucked and tied up where needed, and it was needed in many places)? Auntie plied Nymeia's own good trade for her Family unit; there were no worn elbows or frayed hems to be found on the clothing of the Clan weaver. If nothing else, she certainly looked the part of one born to a cultured and privileged life...if only in her own mind. "Bring me your knife, Pin" she ordered, fussing over the fruit like a mother bird might over her eggs. Her little cousin slid off the rock and scurried over to his nearby pack, white hair flying with the flurry of motion that only a youth with the prospective of something wonderful just within reach could make. Little boy keepsakes spilled out upon the stone, until the small knife was found. "He picked these out just for me, you know." Pin had scrambled back to his original position beside his elder, holding the knife toward her handle first. Negotiations had taken quite a while over the sales price of the various ores they had brought to the surface and presented to market. Isobeau knew not to venture too far from the Clan porters, but in an environment such as the Avenue of Sapphires, stalls and stands were within steps of each other, and the ornate woodwork and bright green paint of the grocer's booth attracted her eye as things not found in her natural environment were wont to do. "Ah, what have we here? Such a lovely example of civility and grace." The Elezen shopkeep was handsome, enough to take a little wind out of the young Isobeau's lungs when addressed by him directly. A bright white sideways smile, tanned skin, other features that her kind shared with his and she would find attractive, but with a different shade attached. The young Duskwight girl did the only thing that came to her at the moment, pulling at her sideways braid awkwardly and looking at her bare feet. "Here, do you want something? Come here, Princess." She looked up at the Wildwood, locking her gaze briefly with ice blue eyes that did not share the smile creasing his lips, before he bent down behind the displays of produce. He came up with a small hemp sack, handing it in Isobeau's direction. "I'm sure you don't get many of these, isn't that right Princess." The grocer widened the mouth of the sack just enough for her to get a glance at the several brightly colored objects held within, just as his own grin widened with charismatic mirth. "These I hold away special for pretty little Princesses such as yourself. Don't eat them here, fille, wait and share with your kin, in the dark. You'll see, my dear, it will be just like biting into a slice of the sun." "I like the smell of them, like there might be bread inside!" the boy's excited eyes were locked on the treats, as Isobeau took the cutting implement from his grasp and made the first tentative incision to the fruit's pocked skin. The peel was rather soft and the flesh malleable, but she quickly circumvented the blade around the fruit and pulled it into halves. "Oh, look, it moves!' And by "move", Pin referred to the multitude of small larval insects newly displaced from their warm, rotting residence, squirming through the ruined pulp of the citrus in every possible direction. Isobeau dropped the remaining two uncut citrus and frantically cupped the freshly severed sections. "Hurry, get the bag, Pin....hold it under my hands. They're escaping!" "Do they stuff these citrus, like meat buns?" her cousin asked, grabbing the sack and thrusting it beneath Isobeau's outstretched hands. She shifted both halves to one palm, and began quickly picking away at the little white wigglers with the other. "I'm sure they do, Pin. Citrus is a rare treat, even for city dwellers, because it takes so long to prepare", Isobeau said sagely. "Take your half...here you go". "They're so sweet, Izzy. I feel as if I might become dizzy." "The sun wiggles on my tongue!" she returned with a laugh. The two Duskwight youths sat in their little corner of shadow and stone, and enjoyed their new and unusual treasure from the world above. A treasure shared with her by one whom the Clan elders said she was never to trust. 'I don't know why', she said to herself with a shrug, daintily sucking a larva from between juice-sticky fingers. 'This seemed like a pretty good deal to me.'
  18. Ah, well...now you're delving into the unexplored portions of Isobeau's (potential) backstory. This is someone I'm toying with...
  19. Wise choice, my friend...and as lovely as we always are 8-)
  20. Well, Cross...there's always a first time for everything ! I think we need to thank that Youtube video...you're the second person to mention it today. There are many people here who would be happy to help you out, and there is actually a formal Mentoring program, where another, more experienced player, will help you develop your role play skills. Don't get THAT anywhere else Thanks for introducing yourself, hope you'll enjoy your experience here
  21. I think you jumped right in like a boss...well done . I see nothing wrong at first glance with that concept at all, and its an interesting premise. If you'd like, I can put that info there on the Duskwight Clans wiki, or you can hit it up yourself when you feel you want to Glad you moved right in and made yourself at home . It looks like there may be a few fellow player's clans that you could have rubbed shoulders with, having operated in the same general area. Twinflame comes to mind right off.
  22. Many disregard the subterranean bounty to be found within the twilight realm from whence we Duskwight come. Am I too proud to subsist on cave crickets and sightless shrimp? Fluorescent fungi and even the lowly roach, which are legion in certain locations underground, have found themselves upon my plate and preserved in my pack, and will again, I am sure. "Excuse me, Isobeau? You have a fore-leg stuck in your teeth..." Of course, when I'm in Ul'dah, its lizard on a stick all the way (heavily seasoned, thank you . ) I think she really likes fruit too, the riper, the better
  23. Yep, that's a good one! Worked for me...came up with the name Valiant Cherry, which I absolutely love .
