  1. I think that's overthinking it. I mean sure you can hand some foreigner a written document of your demands but how is he going to be able to read it? I think it is a lot to ask to expect the Qestir to read or write in the Doman or Kugane languages when they rarely seem to deal with anything outside their territory.
  2. As I said, citation needed, it's how I remember it...can probably try to find a video of it?
  3. Citation needed: I believe in the initial MSQ they specify that the Qestir believe all words -spoken- are lies and therefore language and writing are exempt from these restrictions. That being said I would doubt any language they do have would be complex and more or less convey needs and intent in as few "words" as possible.
  4. I have to wonder if Questir do actually have a form of sign language for themselves because it seems much to expect anyone to communicate complex economic and mercantile information with just pointed looks. My guess is the only reason you may not see them using hand signals with anyone is practical reasons of animating it as well as common sense that if someone you just met is not familiar with your culture than it's asking a little much for them to understand an entirely different language communicated with gestures and hand signs. Possible it might even be a language that's sacred and only used in the tribe and with close allies.
  5. I was skeptical but after seeing and hearing the results these measures seemed to have worked. I think the issues of people staying logged in was more widespread than we thought and people frustrated by the queue times caused them to try to stay logged in as well which only exacerbated the problem. Since the measures have enabled shorter queues at least for now this should make people more confident about logging out and reduce numbers over time.
  6. Would love to hear more about your character. I may have a few ideas
  7. I think the quest text after you finish it specifically says that all your mounts are then able to swim.
  8. This is honestly something I'm interested in, but I'd prefer a small in either LB or Mist
  9. I never did get back to you guys about this, since I did some RP and then was stuck behind the queue until about midnight. Relogging DID fix that issue - quest was in my log and I was able to continue as normal. I'd hope it was fixed or patched or something since then (or will be shortly), but if it hasn't and you hit the same problem... your options are basically go do other stuff or relog. I ran into this same problem. Someone mentioned that when they logged out and logged back in it fixed it for them, but I didn't feel like waiting through the queue last night to find out
  10. Man, I just had a thought. It'd kinda suck that we've been trying to build up the RP population on Mateus... what if the growth ends up being enough that it drops off the list of choices? I hope that doesn't end up being the case. Yeah but that's good news, it mean Mateas will have a stable population capable of supporting sustainable RP and then we can work on building up Jenova or Fairie.
  11. Lol. It is way to early for me to think about that with this character. I will tell you how I retired previous characters, surprisingly I've only actually killed off two and these were in situations where it was too hard to work with the character or I couldn't get them off the ground. My draenei priestess back in wow just resolved the issues she had that generated conflict and she disappeared into the background. My supernatural detective has settled down for now with his girlfriend and a dog and has become more or less a background NPC for others. I had a stormwind guard turned worgen who eventually retired to a quiet life with his daughter. I don't see retiring a character as having to wipe them of any chance to continue to exist, they're just no longer part of the main story, their interesting life has been settled into something more routine
  12. Yes.....Yeeeeees! *Cough* I mean, welcome aboard.
  13. Honestly without actually seeing your character and how he rps it's difficult to offer any help with this, from the way you have described the situation it could genuinely be a problem with the character itself or it may just be an issue of how you could be pulling him off, it may be both. Depending on what the problem actually is there are some wildly different solutions to addressing it and without actually seeing how your character plays I'm afraid there's not much I can give you beyond(if you can) stepping back and using a different character to see if you get the same complaints. If you do it might be just a situation of stepping back and letting someone else take the wheel. If it's a character issue you may be better served finding some rp reason to adjust his echo so others don't feel he can just mimic their ability and make their contribution seem less.
  14. I tend to agree with everyone that the title of this thread may be a bit of an issue as it tends to invite hostility rather than open discussion, I doubt that was the original intent but it is certainly not helping to foster a civilized conversation on what anyone can see is a very real problem. ((citation: Title has since been changed) I don't deny that there is some genuine hating on Balmung going on which could have been brought on by a small number of people who left Balmung after not feeling welcome and then amplified it to others who could not get into Balmung and found this narrative easy to digest as further vindication that they were not simply on Mateus because their first choice was blocked. It's easy to hate on the popular kid and though this is a flimsy phrasing of the real problem I think its important to accept that there is some small truth to it before we can move on. Speaking from someone who actually wants Mateus to stand on its own and become another great RP server it worries me hearing that there is any negativity or hate on other servers and those who are passing this around, those who are seeing this being passed around..seriously, please stop. We are in this together, Roleplayers already have it hard enough against casual gamers and griefers we don't really need to make enemies of our brothers. Also coming out of left field, This : http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=19379 I don't know if everyone has seen this, but it is right up there in announcements. I hope the plans are still in motion because I think it is something we need and what I truly want to see. I don't like the idea of us splintering off too much or isolating ourselves too much into separate communities especially now and I think this RPC has done a lot to try and address that, even making improvements. No single rp server is going to be the same and giving new players a 'shopping zone' in the future(when Balmung and Gilgamesh eventually open up) for something that fits them might go a long way to forming a more cohesive community. We may not all be on the same server but at least we are all on the 'same page' *insert pun beating here*
  15. It is not my intention to disparage you but your essay seems to have a circular theme, dropping on the same singular grievance that can be (perhaps incorrectly) easily assumed as a scathing commentary about one of the largest populated servers. I don't assume to know your history but I feel that if you had made the effort to do so you might have discovered that until this point there were other ways to get onto Balmung that circumvented the character creation restrictions and barring that, perhaps might have attempted as others clearly have to establish an alternative rp server perhaps by reaching out before this. Coming from a WoW RP server that died because of these transfers to Moon Guard and WrA and Emerald Dream despite the dedication and best efforts by well established members of the community I feel I need to point out that there are those of us who are comforted by the phrase "we are not going anywhere". I feel I cannot emphasize the reassurance of this mantra enough as based on no further information you yourself have never had to experience whole groups of friends, guilds and rp partners 'jumping ship' en masse for those greener pastures. Your argument about smaller groups squabbling where to go feels uninformed and I can only assume you must have missed the surveys for EU and American players as they attempt to form this decision for the establishment of a new community. To give you the quick summery it seems that currently Mateus has the run of it for new NA servers and last I checked Lich was overtaking the other options where EU was concerned. You also think that no one is transferring and I believe it is an understandable mistake to assume that as this movement has been quieter. Last week there was a group of EU friends that transferred out, causing a snap up of abandoned properties that is unlikely to have been noticed due to the speed. Players are transferring alts to Mateus in order to play with friends that could not reach Balmung. Taking all this information into account I can only assume your arguments are bore out of gross misinformation, frustration and a minimal amount of resentment. Am I happy to finally after 10 years of being on low and declining server populations from various games to finally be on a server where I don't have to fight to find rp? Hell yes I am. Please do not assume though as I feel you are, that I am an entitled spoiled stubborn role-player who has just had it so good at the expense of other fledgling communities.
  16. I'm not clear with what you are looking for in terms of advise or approval, since you've stated that this is right out of the gate not a lore friendly character and don't plan on making her one, I guess that helps narrow it down? I'm aware of Parasyte and I get where you're trying to go with it but I actually feel the removing the head part is borrowing too much and really not necessary for the concept you are trying to work with, plus it leaves too much to explain to those not familiar with the story(which never fully explains the premise itself). I would say you can drop the specifics while still keeping the idea of what you're trying to manage.
  17. Didn't someone mention a few months ago that there was also a small rp community on Sargentas?
  18. I sort of feel this was a long time coming, it's not unexpected. One of the reasons I moved 8 placeholder alts over to Balmung is because I suspected SE would probably be doing this at one point, it's surprising that the announcement was so sudden but I kind f think they were trying to avoid a lot of last minute rush transfers. While high population is good for RP i feel it's reached a critical mass where it's starting to hurt gameplay. Housing is not so much as a long shot as it is a lottery and while the new move may help with loading issues piling on more transfers to an overpopulated server could exhaust the capabilities of what it can support. The bonus is I don't have to witness a general f#$*ton of bots every time the server restarts. I also think that the overemphasis on Balmung has caused smaller communities such as Faerie, Mates and Jenova to be passed over to everyone's loss.
  19. Who does Lysse resemble? I must have missed that.
  20. Would like to try and make something work with your time because I think Maeve and Ell might really get along well together!
  21. Sorry, I don't know anything a-boat that. That was... like the worst pun. Good Work. Also I have not seen your ship either, the responsible practice is to have ships microchipped, that way if they loose their masthead they can still scan it to find the owner.
  22. That sounds like something a genie would say. Are you a genie?

I have a more in-depth look at Conjury on my to-do list. In addition to the "curriculum" above, here's another couple links that might be helpful about some of the schools in Eorzea that might teach a more broad view of magic. - Sharlayan's Studium - Ishgard's Saint Endalim Scholasticate - Other Formal Education Across Eorzea As far as going beyond the basic spells we see in game and manipulating aether into new and creative ways - you'd not be the only one to have ever delved into the realm of experimentation! Hope this helps! ^^ Sounsyy you are amazing.
