  1. For Science! Wait.....For Progress! Would love to just RP sometime. Sounds like it would be a fun person to interact with, conviction that the perennial bad guys are in the right.
  2. I'd say anything can be done poorly and anything can be done well and I'd say a lot of that has to do with the experience and skill of the player. The problem is that this along with vampires, werewolves immortals and such are also a fall back hook for a lot for those who may be the opposite of either or both and a stigma develops.
  3. I'm going for the default answer of "it depends" I think the situation of Amnesia is actually more preferred in situations where you're having trouble pinning down a back story or need to buy time to read up on lore and I've done this a few times before with previous and current characters, Ellmida is a good example of this actually, where all her memories prior to the calamity are vague and blurred together. I personally have no issue with amnesiac characters save for situations where it's just used as a half baked contrivance for some quick drama, as in if it's treated as a serious situation which is automatically improved with little explanation why. As for how my characters deal with these types..... depends on the character. In situations with year old characters, I think it can be done even for a retcon but I would think you would have to take more care than with characters that were brought in with it, probably better in situations where those you usually do with are not currently playing to mess up the retcon with... Knowing you.
  4. This sounds.... Awesome! I don't think I have any characters for the but it would sound awesome just to attend. Also, wasn't there a player a few weeks back who mentioned he was playing a law enforcement type? Maybe flag him down?
  5. Sharpen our weapons for the Great Housing War of 2017?
  6. Lyse says Yda died 6 years ago but honestly I'm wondering...Did she really? She makes a point to say it's not really clear what caused her death it was just assuming she had been overwhelmed by imperialists is my understanding, plus the story seems to make a point of having these plot twists create some impact but you the hero had no indication Yda was behaving different, even those present in 1.0 are uncertain if they ever met the real Yda. I don't know, part of me suspects we will be seeing another twist to the Yda/Lyse story
  7. This would be awesome to have set up. I'm open to coming since Ell is still pretty new and it helps to get pointers
  8. hehe. I love it. honestly what you can do is look at fictional magicians like Trixie from My Little Pony or better yet, Zatanna from DC comics, both are stage musicians who use real magic in their stage performances. When in doubt just think about what might look cool and flashy and go from there.
  9. This isn't exactly a new one, but it's a difficult one to face. Often when people do form tight ic connections you run the risk of your character in limbo because either these same players lost interest, needed to take a break for personal reasons or otherwise went on hiatus. If you have been playing almost exclusively in this group(which invariably happens), it can become even more difficult to set your character apart and move forward again. Often if it's something everyone knows is coming there will be plans made to give still active players a way out or an ic reason for an absence and this is really the best option because it prevents you from being forced to relegate other people's characters to NPC status and attempt to judge off screen interactions based on what you know of them, unfortunately this doesn't always happen. In my personal opinion I don't think it's fair to hold your character in this limbo based on the possibility of "We might come back" If you're not interested in playing at all without them than that's fine but to me it really sounds like you've been stuck in a hiatus by default because of this situation. My best suggestion since you are still in contact with these people is talk to them and try to work something out where you can have a reason why they are not interacting lately that won't force you to have to treat them like NPCs while you play your own story. You should be able to work in a situation where in you can move your character forward while still having a way back in case they return and they are likely to even have some ideas to help you.
  10. As agreed, here is a link to a linkshell for EU players, that might help you with connections and events. Keep in mind though that Balmung is busy all the time and you're pretty guranteed to not be able to spot without hitting a roleplayer. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Balmung Ah also looks like Thunderbolt300 sounded off but he was going to be my next directional arrow if your character shuns crowds, it's likely that the group Shroud Life could be part of your clientele
  11. As I understand there is a group of EU folks on server. My character takes archery and carpentry too but she only does carpentry to craft her own instrument. I would not worry about not wanting to be in high populated areas, there's a decent number of good folks who hang around Gridania and wilderness. I will provide helpful linkshell for you in an edit later when I have more time.
  12. This sounds like an awesome concept as I keep picturing in my head her "voice" coming across as music with this device. If your friend really is wanting to be completely mute without any aids then one suggestion I might make is to pair her up with someone who can be there to initiate contact and help be her voice by offering to "translate" after time once your friend develops more contacts and people learn to translate her attempts to communicate this can be slowly scaled down.
  13. Yeah the concept does sound a bit out there, but the way you write it I think you could pull it off. My recommendation on this for role play is to determine how much this background affects your character with how they deal with others or react to stressful situations because even if the story is interesting it means little if you can't telegraph it with the character since it's unlikely the lore you created is going to be revealed by a massive info dump on unsuspecting players. That being said, I'd almost like to see this put forward as an individual story since it sounds like you have an interesting concept and I'm not certain if working within the confines of the game will be able to give it due Justice.
  14. If your character is a wanderer might I suggest the Shroud Life linkshell? They have a discord as well and cater to characters that don't really stick around the cities. They have a lot of criminal elements but I'm aware they are open to all walks of alignment.
  15. My usual is to only sell a stack of 1 and it's worked okay for me. I've noticed things like my low level crafting items take a while to sell but it's not unexpected. Usually I'll try not to undercut at all because it leads to a death spiral for the cost of that item and because the server pop is so high I can almost guarantee it will sell eventually....The only exception being certain furniture and minion drops from PoTD and those I just resigned to leaving up in the event someone may want them. If you're leveling you can get a pretty good price for any materia quest rewards. I've pretty much ignored using them myself until I not level cap and have gotten a decent cash flow from them. It really depends on what you're selling and if you are in the mood another option is to take time to study the market boards and see what sells.
  16. Took me a while to find the link but if you're looking for education. St. Reineitte's is based in lavender beds and usually seems to have regular classes. They also appear to icly foster characters as well as provide free education. I'd give it a look. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=15089
  17. I agree in at this point it is overthinking it and to get a better idea for your character it might be good to just jump in and get a feel for your character and other player characters before you really solidify your backstory. That way you can have a better understanding of what people mean rather than hearing opinions on if things will or won't work.
  18. Uhhh I guess I can't offer much but hatred is very much a learned behavior. The views of others around you can very much color your own over time especially if you are not exposed to alternative views aside from just the one.
  19. I would love to help but Ell doesn't seem to come to Ul'dah often, when she does though she seems to have a bad track record of being robbed.... Regardless I shall keep you in mind! Also good luck on teaching!
  20. Altering major plot points and making adjustments to better suit others, so this is part repost part bump. Bad guy must be available 8 PM PST with latest going til 9 or 10 PST or wider availability on Thurs and Friday 2 PST til 10 PST. Must be able to work with Garlean or at least accept contracts from them. You can be as decent or evil as you want just.... Nothing over the top. I tend to work closely with lore to reason so please keep in mind, also prefer brawn to magic but I'm open to either. \o/ Please let me know in replys or PM. Initial plot is still in planning stages, likely will occur in summer or fall so please keep in mind and thank you for your consideration!
  21. Ell is used to not having a lot of money and tends to be careful about saving, that being said she has a sweet tooth and has been known to drop a Gil or two on sweets now and then. She's also very bad at watching her purse in larger populated areas like Ul'dah and has been robbed no less than 4 times, sometimes in bold and creative ways, it's become a bit of a running gag.
  22. As you know this is all advice, you are perfectly free to go the route you think is best. Let me start by saying that my usual default to characters and backgrounds is the K.I.S.S. Rule (keep it simple stupid<-I think someone added the last word because they needed an extra S and weren't very creative) That being said It sounds like you made your choices based on what would be most interesting or unique. Yuuna appears to have an acute case of Main Character Syndrome, which is great for writing a novel or a tv series but honestly the same attributes you can want for a main character also tend to carry over poorly when trying to role play with others. Role Play has no true main character, you're trying to tell your story while also helping to build the stories of others and it can be wholly unpredictable how this plays out, the way you seem to present your character however would suggest the main focus be on her and would crowd out others in attempt to cater to your own character's needs, wants and desires. Another matter I notice is the complexity of her backstory which can make her less relatable and surprisingly less interesting and that's where we come into KISS again, does it need to be this way when something can be explained this way? This sounds great! why does it have to be more than that? it tells us everything we need to know, creates a sense of loss and tells us she has skill in something. Plus it creates plot bunnies for others to follow, why did her parents leave her? Why didn't she follow them right away? I would look into explaining why she would be selected princess as in how her island elects a princess. Also does she need to have a future husband? seems like it was thrown in there randomly unless you planned on doing something later. Seems like you could just cut him out of the story and lose nothing especially when Keiiki is the one who warns her. If she is a princess it makes sense to smuggle the ruling class out in the event of an invasion, but does she really have to be a princess? What does it bring to her character that can't be otherwise provided? This part I think would raise the most objections because it feels tossed in without rhyme or reason. If the Garleans know of her escape why not just destroy the vessel? It seems a whole lot of extra effort to smuggle someone on board a ship just to poison someone, not to mention spies and assassins are valuable in any empire and with no route of escape it's a basic suicide mission. This is what I mean by KISS, you're creating an assassin plot that is incredibly difficult to explain it's complexity and can be unraveled by tugging a thread, it's entire reason for being there seems to revolve around an explanation for making her an Au Ra, but why does she have to be an Au Ra? If you want to play an Au Ra then why not make her one from the beginning? It would definitely be less confusing for everyone. You could definitely work with this and bringing back to the princess aspect you could use this as a reason for why she was chosen? Maybe that's all a princess is in her tiny country, someone trained in complex magic. I don't know, that's all the advice I have to offer, I hope my ramblings have been reasonably useful for your character.
  23. 1.lesser panda 2.company tabard 3.south sea couch and chair set 4. High Allagan weapon
  24. Omg omg! Spell! Welcome to Final Fantasy! You're going to love it no matter what character you ultimately decide upon, the story quests are amazing. I'm on Balmung as most, it's sort of the main RP server but unless you get really really lucky you will likely have to pay for a transfer to get over here. Like everyone says the community is big enough to do pretty much any kind of story you want. Good luck!
