The posting can be found plastered liberally on the walls and bulletins of Ul'dah while only having a single poster in The Roost and The Drowning Wench as if the inquirer had canvased one city and simply given up on the rest. OOC: Well anyone can apply, please either send me a PM or contact me in game or even reply below if interested!

Help wanted with Midlander Thaumaturge background
Ellmida replied to Menord's topic in Character Workshop
If you want my opinion at all I think you're over thinking it with the name, but if you are so concerned you can explain it away depending on where you want to go nationality wise -
Sure, fuck it. Go nuts. Like was said: We'll talk to anybody. \o/ yay! \o/

Can I play even if I'm not having trouble finding RP? Also my character is the outgoing sort so she will poke your personal bubble if you want her to. xEkIou3WFnM

discussion Why FFXIV's rape themes fall monumentally flat
Ellmida replied to Seriphyn's topic in Lore Discussion
This is...actually a really interesting topic and honestly though I will try to give my own bumbling explanation...it's not going to come out as great as I want it to. Just because a culture is based on a meritocracy rather than a Patriarchal or Matriarchal society does not mean sex based crimes do not exist and will never exist. While sexism and gender inequality can be argued as a reasoning behind the high rate of these crimes against women it is by no means the sole cause of rape. You have women rapists, and while the crimes of this natures are vastly under-reported because of the social stigma, it still exists. Rape is a crime that involves control of one person over another, that sort of thing doesn't go away simply because men and women serve equally together and it is actually a very common story when you get into invading armies and occupation. Uh...well I think I've reached my depth at this point, there's really not much I can get into without digging into vast amounts of historical information, psychological discussions and sociology but there you go. -
"I'm bad and that's good, I will never be good and that's not bad..." Pretty self explanatory with title but I am looking for one person willing to play a bad guy for a plot I'm working on. The plot is not in full swing yet but I feel it's best to line up my ducks in a row first so I can hash it out with whoever decides to take the role. I would play it myself but since my character would be heavily involved in guiding the plot it makes it hard to take on the role without dual boxing. As a note, it goes without saying but this will more likely than not require a new character and player should accept that this will statistically not end well for said character. That being said below I included additional info: -nothing NC 17 but as this plot is due to contain mature content it is respectfully requested that only mature experienced players respond. -Nothing drama. Will require some coordination which needs a lot of communication, this can be complex enough without bringing baggage in with it. -Evening availability is requested, even better if Thurs and Fridays are open. -Character in mind is a red headed male hyur warrior type in mid to late 40's - character has redeeming traits or at least in the past has been known to be a good person. While this may currently not reflect the role I state this fact so it's aware I'm not looking for a cartoon Saturday morning evil, just someone who might have gone the wrong way at some point. If you are interested please let me know. We can talk and plot and hopefully we can make something awesome to be enjoyed.

My character Ellmida is a real beginner to music, she's someone who GT into it for ulterior motives and just decided she liked it. As for instruments I feel I'm a bit of an outlier on this as she plays the Hurdy-Gurdy which is a bit more obscure and tends to be harder to find music for. I'm trying multiple methods to get the sound and music across and if it's not a you tube video I will try my best to get the sound across in emotes. Because Ell's music is very personal a lot of the time I will use an already existing tune or sound then create my own lyrics but I am by no means great at this.

I don't know. I'm of the sentiment that it you play your character well, the race shouldn't matter. That you're playing a popular race should not factor into how others view your character anymore than if you chose to play something more obscure. It seems short sighted that anyone should make you feel like less of a person because of your character choice IMO

Ahch! Someone whose been role-playing as long as I have! I can relate, ooc drama sucks and I know I've had my own share of it but I'm grateful you chose to take the chance again. The thing I can tell you about my personal experience with this community is that everyone has been really nice and open hearted, sincerely so. You can also get by okay without a FC if you are so inclined, I've been untethered for 2 months out of indecisiveness and still am able to find RP really easily.

What do you suggest otherwise for people to do IC if they don't want to deal with people roleplaying NPCs? I think beyond flat out ignoring them, tell them to shove it OOC, there's very few legit IC options left to handle the situation beyond writing them off as insane. There's little to win here if people are not consenting to their roleplay. In your opinion you're rude if you try to handle it IC by writing them off as insane/drunk. If you ignore them, you're rude according to some. If you play along with them while you don't want to, the player who's approached doesn't think it's enjoyable roleplay and just wishes it didn't happen. If you retcon, you're being mean in some people's eyes as well. So what do you propose then? Because I really can't see any winners here if you don't want to roleplay with NPCs and they still insist onto RPing with/around you. I think if people told them (politely) OOC that they are not interested, and they stay around despite that, you are in your full right to just ignore or write the character off as insane at that point. Consent is the main key here. If I'm not interested in RPing with x person because of x reason (including them RPing a NPC), that's my full right to do such, and those of others as well. I guess I see open RP as an uncontrollable environment, like real life, where you aren't going to like or agree with everything everyone is doing around you. I don't have the automatic assumption that if a person plays X (whether X is a canon character, a White Mage/Dragoon/Fist of Rhalgr, voidsent/voidtouched, whatever) they're automatically going to suck and I'm not going to like it. I've met a lot of interesting characters with some really weird backgrounds and I'd kick myself in hindsight if I hadn't given them a chance. I've never had a canon rp-er shove themselves down my throat before like you have, but I think I would handle it in the same way I would an aggressive ERPer or someone behaving inappropriately. I'd probably just ignore them. I wouldn't try to bully their idea by going: get a load of this nutjob, though. I'm not sure where in my previous post I wrote that you /have/ to RP with them. If I made that statement, I apologize. I feel like I pissed you off and that wasn't my intention. Rereading this response and it doesn't look like anyone is angry, just trying to explain their point of view. That there is a disagreement on how certain rp preferences should be handled should not be interpreted as bullying. I think what people are trying to get across is that if they cannot wrap their heads around someone playing as an NPC they should not be forced to accept it into their rp just as those who like to rp outside basic lore should not be forced to adhere to a strict set of guidelines for what kind of character they can have. I think that's all anyone is really trying to say

I keep seeing people post this in every thread this is brought up. I find this reaction to be mean spirited and contemptuous. And it doesn't seem to be in the spirit of role play. It's weird where people draw the line between "okay, I'll pretend your character is/has this, but if you say they are/have this I'm going to be derisive and try to make you feel bad. I think Kilieit explained it best as to why it is a problem for most and why most people might react this way. It's not mean spirited so much as it is someone trying to find a way to accept that character without feeling they are being forced to accept someone's NPC RP as canon and then incorporate it into their RP.

Personally I was never really a fan of the tumbler blogs, though I know people who use them and are happy with it. Me I tend to orient more to story posts and I like to use the forums a lot for that reason, plus it's the easiest way for me to make connections outside of game. If you want to be able to share your character with more people you could post a link to your tumbler or check the calendar for events to bring her to.

balmung LF Contacts to be robbed.
Ellmida replied to So'tahzi Lharogo's topic in Chronicled Connections
Ell doesn't usually travel in a caravan, but she is constantly getting robbed whenever she's in Ul'dah, usually by light fingers. I don't know if that helps. -
Kumquat is a fruit....It's funny because it has a silly name. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumquat I will also accept an orange though

I don't have any references for my character readily available now, so can you just draw a singing kumquat in an opera house? Please and thank you! Edit: I realize that my avatar does in fact contain a reference picture....I still would like a singing kumquat though.

balmung LF some dastardly villains!
Ellmida replied to Sileas Bishop's topic in Chronicled Connections
Depending on what you have planned I could probably cook something up, Does it matter if the character is low lvl? I doubt I would have the effort to lvl Ell and a disposable bad guy. -
As a starting alone story or a book it would be an interesting concept I'd be interested in reading but for use in a role play environment I can't see it working out well. I can try to explain my opinion then you can decide if it's valid or not. Fantasy Worlds are just that, fantasy. The reason we get invested though is that these worlds adhere to their own set of rules to create believability. I'm not going to say you shouldn't try but the concept requires heavily bending or breaking the rules of the world then asking others to accept it. At that point other players must adjust their understanding of the world to make room for the changes. See, when players choose to adjust in order to conform specifically to your character ideal then it no longer becomes a part of their story, it almost entirely becomes your story. It's less fun to play if you if you find yourself becoming the side character to someone who was tailor made to be the hero under these adjusted rules. My suggestion is to try and find a compromise between what you want your character to be and what is more plausible lore wise. Maybe it's possible your character was the eldest survivor and took on that responsibility? Maybe he traveled off on his own and gained some followers? As for the shapeshifting, I don't know about that but I would look at the blue mage for something that runs close to your concept.

discussion The issue with choosing a race (Again)
Ellmida replied to Serene Lestrade's topic in Character Workshop
It might be a sociology thing. I've noticed that the style and the poses Elezen have seem to have that elegant unapproachable feel to them while Miqo'te generally appear more open and laid back. That being said I would not worry too much about it, historically I've rarely been approached for walk up RP and I'm usually the one initiating it, even in this game which has an overwhelming number of roleplayers I think every encounter has been my character running up to someone with a question or greeting and even in RL it's not usual to be approached by random strangers. My suggestion runs the same as everyone else, play the race you feel happy with and if you need consider the RP connections section. As an added note my character is pretty social and tends to approach anyone so if she runs into you it's very likely she will invade your bubble even if you're being standoffish. -
Battle Of the Bards! - (19/01/17) 6PM CST
Ellmida replied to Lilira Lira's topic in Chronicled Events
Signing up with Ellmida Westrose, inexperienced Hyur bard! -
Was hoping for advice, suggestions or recommendations on this. A large part of my character's backstory involves the calamity and it's the main reason why she travels so much, looking for her family. I'd like to have her former home set on or near carteneu but I am a bit lore blind at the moment. Would there have been civilization so close to the area before the calamity? Does anyone have any better suggestions where to set her origins from? For ic reasons I cannot do any of the major cities. Thanks in advance for any input!

balmung looking for nomad rpers ♠ shroud ♠ keepers & more!
Ellmida replied to Parzival Baur's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm not sure my character fits the criteria but she does spend a lot of time in the wilderness due to lack of funds, not actually having a home and frequency of travel.(she's on the road a lot). So if you don't mind a ginger midlander stopping by now and then I'd be happy to participate. -
I have the same dream, I’m standing in front of a housewhile the skies burn above and a man whose face I don’t remember comforts me and tells me to wait before turning his back on me and running into the chaos. I call out, but he doesn’t seem to hear me and I’m left alone. I know the man in my dreams is my father and he’s gone to look for my brother. The dream always ends with him leaving and in reality I only obey him for so long until I too have to go. I like to think that dreams are memories, even the sillyones that don’t look like they should make sense and the bad ones we don’t like to remember. It’s nice to imagine that we might have been birds once or sailed through clouds of fresh cream on seas of chocolate and then things seem less terrifying. In one of my favorite dreams I see my mother singing, my memories tell me this is common and why I knowhow music should sound. I like to think she must have been a great singer once to have the kind of voice of my memories, but she gave it all up for us. My papa is always lifting me up and I have memories of big strong hands and red hair like mine with dreams filled with laughter, both of me and my brothers. Sometimes I wish I could remember the faces, but I feel blessed that the dreams are always of happy memories. It will be eightyears since my search began, but I’m not discouraged, I know that I just need to look in different places. This will be my first week in Gridania and everything’sbegun on a positive foot, I think it’s important to get to know the local people, you never know what you might learn and it’s always nice to get interesting insight on how things are going in the area, sometimes I think I sleep outside too much so this week I plan to change that! Gridania is a city in a forest so it’s much less of a shock than you would think for me, after all I only have to look out a window and feel right at home, plus the local Archer’s Guild has given me so many great pointers that I think my skills have even improved! No more hungry nights for Ell that’ for sure! No one I asked so far can tell me if they’ve seen the personI describe to them, which is not always new and it just means I there’s one more place I can cross off the map. I try to be as descriptive as possible when I can, red hair, a big sword and strong arms with a soft voice. I know what I have is not much to go on so think I would be a lot more worried if there were too many sightings, this is really why I stopped including the others, turns out they look like a lot of otherpeople, so sorry brother! Sorry mom! Ipromise I’ve not given up yet! I thought it would be nice to lend a hand while I’m here andjust jeep asking around, after all everyone has been so nice so far and there’s too many people to cross off in one day, plus it gets exhausting when you have to follow every lead. Still, it’s important to be thorough!

I think everyone's pretty much said it perfectly so there's not a lot I have to add and may get a little beyond what answers you are looking for. Also feel free to disagree, these are opinions that I have developed overtime and results may vary. I think with both your concepts you may be too focused on what the character is and not as focused on how you plan to play the character, this could significantly help with your decision. When it comes to character creation I try to go for the K.I.S.S. method because putting too much focus on what you want the character to be can sacrifice playability. In books and games you're creating something that's static to that reality, you are moving to an ending that you planned out, what you throw at the character is something you know fits with the concept. Because role play is more fluid and depends on other player contributions it's important to have a concept that can roll a little with the punches, focusing too much on one static idea can become nigh unplayable over time when you have exhausted the number of stories you can tell or the concepts you designed no longer make sense, It literally becomes evolve or die. Something that has worked really well for me is once I come up with a concept I immediately try to break it, basically poking as many holes as possible before I start playing and see if the character can survive beyond the original idea.
