'Pologies for any inconvenience (And also buttluck.)

Recommended Posts

anybody who was on Balmung in the QS within the last 20 minutes or so was probably subjected to Flynt's OOC buttluck extravaganza, in which I ran around touching the butts of a multitude of characters in search for the luckiest butt in the Quicksand, in which I concluded that:

  • Seekers of the Sun have the worst buttluck
  • Aya Foxheart has a one charge 900+ buttluck.
  • Tesla the catte has the best buttluck, resulting in over 4 +900 rolls.
  • Highlanders have the second worst buttluck.
  • Aaron Frostfart has pretty good buttluck.

Thank you for your involuntary participation and I apologize for flooding the chat with butt emotes and /randoms. My only intention was to garner a few cheap laughs for anybody feeling a bit down through the use of toilet humor, and don't wanna hamper any RP's going on with my shenanigans, again, sorry ^^

Love y'all

Sounds like you were engaged in some good natured trolling. I for one often find that stuff rather whimsical. I had someone run up to me during rps, slap me, slap the person I was rping with, slap their chocobo, then run off into a FATE.

It was in the middle of Nowhere, Shroudsville, and tickled me so pink I had to call an ooc time out to get the snerks worked out of my system.

Pfft yeah I just happen to get carried away in the endless flow of stupidity and sometime people don't quite grasp the intended nature of the ooc shenanigans, in which I highlight here in apology to those who may have been inconvenienced. It's normal, and simply forgot to think about it beforehand :P

I'm with Coat on this. The Quicksand is one of those places where you see a lot of trolling going on (whether intentional or not), and a lot of it's in the form of spamming random emotes like this. It's already hard enough to follow things in the QS when it's crowded because of how quickly chat scrolls by. Adding a bunch of random emotes only amplifies this and makes it harder for other people to RP.

I, and a lot of people I know, manage this by the diligent use of our blacklists. At best, doing this sort of thing can get you the sort of reputation you don't want. At worst, you're cutting yourself off from future RP.

Ah, the classic "Sorry for being a stupid asshole" post. We've all written one of those before, amirite?

At least you noticed and seem to genuinely realize that what you did wasn't cool in a public space. Take whatever lumps you get from this on the chin and move along.

I know you're not everyone's cup of tea, but I give you the benefit of the doubt. You've always responded pretty respectably to me ICly when I ask you to cut out some of your more zany antics. I hope people here will realize that.

Golden rules I wish to bring to bring up in light of this thread:

1) Don't be a dick.

2) If you must be a dick, acknowledge you're a dick.

3) If you acknowledge you're a dick, don't bitch if people treat you like one.

The secrets to a happy internet life.

I agree with the posters above. While I haven't exactly seen how this "trolling" looked like or what you were exactly doing, it's never a good idea to flood an already crowded and popular RP area with... something that's not RP. It's not really cool, you know? While I understand that you just wanted to have some fun, I think it's a better idea to just do it in the circle of your friends, since you'll always end up being a nuissance to some and I doubt that you want to end up on some blacklists, like people mentioned.

I fail to see the need to make a thread on the RPC for this, as it is clearly more of an advertisement for your antics than an actual apology. If you were truly sorry, you would have not done it in the first place, and I like to think that you would know better. The Quicksand is already frequented enough by skill and emote spamming trolls - we do not need more of them. Whether or not you had good intentions is irrelevant: it is disruptive, rude and childish.

There is a very large gap between using humor to make people smile, and acting silly for the sake of attention. Perhaps I should not be so surprised that you confused the two, but it is still quite discouraging to see. I will not chide you and tell you to not do it again, because quite frankly, after seeing this thread, I'm sure you will. You are free to behave however you wish. However, spamming emotes in an already congested RP area will quickly get you blacklisted by a large number of players - permanently or not. So long as you are aware of this, and continue to behave as such, then I should hope you would not be surprised to find yourself in a place where not many people would want to RP with you.

I wouldn't bother making an apology thread next time this happens, of course, because we already know that you're not.

Hummmm, I dunno, sometimes it's nice to see people being silly. If it's interrupting mah flow, I just temp block.

But sometimes it's just like dat ass.

I'm mostly a super srs rper, anyone who's rped with me knows it's a lot of grungy dirty sloppy icky mess where no one wins and everything is dingy and shit, but sometimes you just need the stupid slapstick idiocy to reset. I've never seen anything wrong with ignoring rp that's messing with your jive, but I dunno, it'd be boring if no one broke the mold every now and again. At least for me. As long as everyone is willing to accept that not everyone is going to be ok with their rp, who am I to say what people can and can't do for fun?

Cuz, you know, given a chance there's some people out there who would happily get rid of every single rper on the server. *shrugs*

edit - Edda has a good point though. The apology on here is pretty pointless. This is one of those things where I'd apologize to anyone who approached you on it, or those who you saw were rping who might've felt like you were trolling them.

From what the OP has wrote, though, it wasn't RP but more of a series of shenanigans/trolling. I'm quite sure that people wouldn't mind that much a character that randomly goes about and spouts silly things from now and then, to liven the place up, but going about and spamming random emotes... isn't exactly the way to do it, I think.

is rp to me. Stupid rp, yeah. Spammy rp, yeah. Maybe mostly ooc rp, yeah, but still rp. It's like dragon-catgirl-demon-whatever rp -- not my thing. I'd probably block and ignore. But y'know, if that's their thing, whatever -- they can do whateeeever they want. As long as they don't get butthurt when people don't want to play with them, it's cool. (much in the same way that I accept that not everyone likes my rp or wants to rp with me -- different strokes and all that)

Well, he wasn't really interacting with anyone, though he was getting his share of OOC yucking being expressed!  I just ignored him, as I usually do to the myriad of trolls in the Quick Sand.  Normally I'd have black listed him too, but I was feeling lenient since the crowd was definitely encouraging him :-X

I'd still say its unwelcome behavior in the Quick Sand.  I like a little silly fun, but not when its so spammy in a place where spamminess can be really frustrating.  Just imagine how people new to FF RP would view the situation - that's kind of how I try to look at things.

Edit: I'll just note that I generally have a very little patience for trolling the Quick Sand. Its one of my usual RP spots (obvs!) and its hard enough to keep up; its just behavior that I think is really discouraging for the people trying to RP and have a little fun there. It tends to earn a black-list from me almost instantaneously, and permanently.

While I do get the point you're dragging across, I don't exactly agree with most of it or even see that it fits. Behaviour like that loosely hangs on the balance of lolling and honestly, I don't want to feel forced to blacklist someone just because he went on a random... goofball spree. Especially if the person is a roleplayer. It just gives out a bad impression and you know the first ones are the most difficult to erase.

We're playing with other people, so we should be aware of that all the time. As I said and as many have said before, QS is quite the busy place so blurping out emotes that aren't RP, ergo do not contribute to the RP scene in any way is counter-productive and even... just bad. As I said before, it's best if you do these sort of things somewhere else and prefferably in the closed groups of friends (God knows I've goofed around with my friends a lot of times in wow, but we never went on to disturb someone's RP). I also agree with Edda's point that the thread doesn't do much help. It seems to me as if you were trying to see how the community would respond so you knew if you could try something like this again. I dunno. Maybe I'm being too vindicative at this point.

To me rp is playing someone/something other than yourself in a public place, hopefully in an interactive manner, but not always.

One thing to note is that Balmung isn't officially a role-playing server. So role-play etiquette is pretty much limited to 'vigilante' enforcement.

With that said, however, I think it's fair to expect role-players to be considerate of those around them especially if they're presently in a location known as an attractive hub for role-players.

I'm sure most of us - myself included - like to have a bit of OOC silliness from time to time. I think it's best to keep such things out of the public eye though or at least away from areas where people are trying to get some role-play started.

I have seen so many things in QS....parades of people walking loops through Ul'dah and through the QS. I have seen OOC conversations that include "LOL that sux, yo." "xD" and other things similar. The place is a hodgepodge of players. Crafters at the leve desk; new players running in and out talking to Momodi; rp'ers; erpers; and just people there take in the scene. While spammy....buttluck (LOL) seems relatively harmless in the grand scheme of things. :)

I guess to me I have a kneejerk reaction because I've been in places before where I was sidelined because my style of rp didn't fit into the meta. I just... man, he'll self correct if the people he wants to play with no longer wish to play with him, but I dunno. Like I said, I enjoy a little bit of stupid every now and again. I know maybe this seems like a silly place to be all high horse blah blah blah, but... prior bad experiences on my end. It's one thing if it's a niche community where there's rules everyone has to follow, but on places like mmos, it's a self regulation thing. If people want to conform to the community and rp with a majority of people, they'll find the hard edges of peoples' tolerance by who is and isn't willing to rp with them.

Mebbe this is too out of context, I dunno. But to me it's just like... if I was there and I didn't like it, and I knew he was a mostly serious rper, I'd either just ignore or blacklist, and let him do his thang. He's welcome to his silly.
