Seriphyn Posted April 25, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2016 Although this could be a private message, I thought to make a thread about it so others with the same question might be able to see! Do you save your absolutely wonderful lore posts (like the latest one regarding 1.0 towns) to a document file anywhere? I'm sure you have enough information to singlehandedly make your own fan wiki! I think it would be awesome if there was a repository for all your lore dumps. Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted April 25, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2016 Okay, but I was more asking along the lines of an easy-to-access compilation, even a wiki, not mining through countless posts to find exactly what I want? I believe she and Nero were working on one, but no such grand lore compilation of all Sounsyy posts exists. You could make one? Or is Sounsyy supposed to sift through all her posts to spoonfeed people? But a thread like this is also one of the reasons Sounsyy had asked staff not to have a dedicated lore board. She's not the only people capable of posting cited lore. And being expected to do big writeups on stuff is basically work. Unpaid work at that. Mod Note: A post has been removed. Please try to avoid being condescending. Link to comment
Shoshopu Posted April 25, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 25, 2016 I've been thinking a lot lately about it, actually-- about actually using the lore section of the RPC wiki and making some pages for the Jobs and the like, and if Sounsyy would be okay if I basically sifted through her posts and cited them (and her own citations of course), because they're always so thorough!... I intended to send her a PM about it or something once I figured out exactly how I wanted to ask it but this thread happened first Aside from being hung up on how I wanted to phrase my PM to her down to the letter before actually sitting down to type it (and that's why I have a hard time reaching out to people orz), I also have a lot on my plate both RP-wise and IRL and I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to finish what I started once I started it. But I guess wikis are supposed to be collaborative anyway, right? Maybe once I (or someone else) started something other people would jump in too? I'm sorry, this post was very scattered and stream-of-consciousness style, my brain is just fried from work today and seeing this thread made me want to convey my thoughts anyway Link to comment

(any user can technically do that too, so feel free to make links to any pages that should exist, so that they have markers to be fleshed out) Oh, good, I didn't know there were already pages for them! So that's a bit already done. Thank you. Specifically I was concerned with digging through Sounsyy's posts, and how she'd want to be credited for compiling the information in the first place- after all I figured I'd only be converting what she'd already compiled into wiki pages, you feel me? That's what I was gonna PM her about (but now it's out here so <_>) Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted April 25, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 25, 2016 stuff lol, just PM her. ...or put a citation and a link to the forums/other sources for where it came from? Link to comment
Valence Posted April 25, 2016 Share #7 Posted April 25, 2016 The thing I have been recently very interested in since I'm starting to be pretty lore ready otherwise (I learn fast), is in all those ingame items basically. I'm trying to read all the descriptions, but there is so many that you can't just not forget everything about each of them most of the times... And i'm not sure what could be done regarding them... But I feel like most of the Eorzean everyday lore bits are hidden there. Like, for example, traditional foods for a lot of races. Link to comment
ExAtomos Posted April 25, 2016 Share #8 Posted April 25, 2016 I've always wondered how the lore-pros even remember all these tidbits of info. Do you guys write them down as you come across them in game so that you remember them later or are you just blessed with THAT amazing a memory? I know some pieces are only gotten from non-repeatable text dialogs, so I've always wondered... Link to comment

I know some pieces are only gotten from non-repeatable text dialogs, so I've always wondered... I have my own collection of lore-links that I've saved away, and also a good deal of links to un-official/fan write-up's of the lore. On top of that, I meticulously screenshot every little in-game lore-tidbit I can, because I like to be able to back up my claims whenever I explain anything. You can see some of those screenshots here: http://imgur.com/a/tdL9G (I've been meaning to put them into categories. Work in progress.) Overall, I mostly rely on my memory, I find lore super interesting and certain details have stuck really well. That said, I don't know everything, so I also end up asking from time to time ^^ Link to comment
Kage Posted April 25, 2016 Share #10 Posted April 25, 2016 There is someone who has collected a bunch of the items into a google docs encyclopedia of sorts not unlike Anonymoose's Bestiary codex thing Encyclopaedia of Eorzea though I am not sure how updated it is. User is AstoriaHollow.tumblr.com. Here's the RPC post for it. Link to comment

Has fan-lore ever accidentally bled into the public's consciousness to where people think it's actual game lore? Yes. But calling it out would be against policy, so I can't really go far into it. One of the more common ones is people substituting "cycles" for "years." I don't think the game's ever shown anything to allow/disallow it, but that's the first off the top of my head. I'm pretty sure "cycles" to mean "years" is one. I mean, cycles are used in Eorzean time terminology a lot, but usually in terms of "how many times does the elemental wheel spin during a day? during a month?" I've never heard a NPC use it to mean a year, and neither does this article use it for specifically a year. EDIT: Shitballs, you guys type really fast >_o I'm not sure where "bells" came from, either, but it's used frequently. While "cycles" to mean "years" isn't referenced in the link above, "bells" to mean "hours" is. Maybe it's a 1.0 thing, maybe NPCs occasionally use it. I'm pretty sure I've seen NPCs use the term. Seriphyn Posted April 25, 2016 Author Share #17 Posted April 25, 2016 Well, gee, perhaps a collaborative effort for an RPC lore wiki might be an idea? Could this be integrated into the current wiki? Perhaps we could all make a Skype group for coordinating these efforts. I'll think of it more when I get home from work. Link to comment

It's already integrated into the current wiki. It's been there gathering dust because nobody used it. Work's a little too busy to sift through the announcement posts and site suggestion posts, but the Lore Workspace on the RPC wiki has been there for over a year. It can be found on the left sidebar, where it says "Lore." Or here. https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Category:Lore Link to comment
