Ellie Posted June 26, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2013 This initiative has ended. This post is kept for archival purposes. -- FreelanceWizard We understand that impatience affects all of us from time to time, but we feel that it's important that you PLEASE READ THE FIRST POST (or at least skim it to make sure you've got the important stuff down). Hello and welcome to the RPC Mentorship Program. If you've been directed here, it's possible that you're new to roleplaying in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and you don't know necessarily where to start. Don't panic, we've all been there, and many of us have decided to volunteer as "mentors"; meaning someone who can work with you one-to-one to answer any questions or concerns you have, and help get you started. Sometimes, even if you're familiar with roleplaying in an MMO, it can be hard breaking into social circles if you don't really know anybody. So even if you don't need help figuring out how to make custom emotes, you could very much benefit from a mentor. Who knows, once you've been shown the ropes and you're comfortable and well integrated into the community, you can become a mentor yourself and help give other newbies a leg up. Getting started... We've asked our mentors to fill out a short form so that you can get an idea of who they are and what kind of help they can offer you. More information will be nested in a spoiler, should you need it. As you look over them, you'll want to keep in mind what you're looking for in a roleplay. Once you've decided who you want, click the link provided in the post to send them a PM and tell them about yourself and what you would like help with. It's possible that they might not agree that you are a good fit for them, in which case don't be discouraged, just come back to the thread and try another mentor. If you're having trouble making a decision, or if you've tried several and they've either declined to take you on or have become inactive and unresponsive, feel free to send me a PM and I'll be happy to help or even offer to mentor you myself. If you're too shy for even that, you may post in the thread and see if anyone's willing to swoop you up. Don't be shy if you can help it, though. Everyone here put their name forward because they want to help out newcomers like you. There's no need to be nervous or shy. Active Mentors Server: Gilgamesh Primary Linkshell: The Silver Anvil Characters: Yeldir Melfusor Style of Roleplay: Any. I like big social events and off color humor as much as serious and introspective storylines. You'll find me doing everything on Gilgamesh. Strongest Skills: Making game lore work for you, and not against you, figuring out plot twists months in advance (and writing to pre-emptively accomodate them), teaching the finer points social etiquette on roleplay servers. Hi! I've been roleplaying on and off for about fifteen years now, with a variety of characters. From my hilarious beginning in a Pokemon chat room, back when I was young and perky in the early 2000's, to the somber tale of self-discovery and ancient secrets that is Yeldir Melfusor's story. I can show you how to party, or how to write a lore-friendly story that draws on long forgotten quest text from 1.0. , Arc, jelrae Click here to send this mentor a PM! Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: The Knights of the Twelve Characters: Isielin Danar'i, Ioshi von Silver, Nica Locke Style of Roleplay: Forum, in-game, and Skype. Emotional, realistic RP with a healthy dash of comedy, action, drama, and (sometimes, depending on the character) romance. Strongest Skills: Writing. RP terminology and conventions. Giving constructive and positive feedback, and working well with others. Weakest Skills: Lore. If you want a lore-hound, seek another mentor =). I'm pretty good at finding out answers, and creating workarounds for fitting into the lore, but there are people out there far better at the lore aspect than me. You want a cheerleader in your corner. Someone who is happy to work with you, support you, and work hard to see you succeed! I have a lot of writing experience, in depth knowledge of what does and doesn't make a scene or character work, as well as a growing network of friends willing to help nurture your growth as well. Successful RP is all about confidence! With a little confidence, you and your characters will shine bright! Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: None, as of yet. Characters: Kaln Valstien Style of Roleplay: Medium/Heavy. Present tense. I find it flows best, talking about what your character is -doing- and -does-, rather than what they -did-. Strongest Skills: Description. I pride myself on the amount of detail I've been able to put into physical descriptions of characters, as well as my posts. I'm also fairly adept at writing in general.. Helping you figure out your style, personalities, the feel you want to give off with your posts. I've always looked at RP as writing a book, co-op style. I type fast, I don't think about what I'm posting, opting to just let it flow instead. I'll do just about any kind of roleplay.. It's more limited by player than style. Some people will have a vocabulary that annoys me. An example being.. Using 'slang' terms for words, instead of what they are. Ask for specifics, in that regard."]I've been RPing for in the area of 15 years, through various mediums. AOL chat rooms, muds, mucks (Text based games, no graphics at all), WoW, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate: London, various other games. Forums for various 'realms' such as the Elder Scrolls, D&D, World of Darkness, GaiaOnline back in the day.. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crimson Phoenix/Spectrum Guard/Night Shift Characters: Have a few but my main will be Kira Fia, a Keeper Miqo'te Style of Roleplay: I tend to be all over the map with RP, but always have strong stories and connections in my characters. Strongest Skills: While I'm still working on making sure I'm up-to-date on 1.0 I'm very strong in the lore of the Final Fantasy Universe at large, and have about 15 years of various RP experience, ranging from table top to LARP to MMO rp. There's tons I could put here but I'm a firm believer in having someone learn about my characters through interaction with them, so as not to run into accidental meta-ing or just confusion on what's known IC vs OOC. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Freelancer -> No Linkshell Characters: Deirdre Ta'ea, Kohrae Crimsonscale Style of Roleplay: Lore heavy, but not bound with reasonable explanations. I prefer action orientated RP (sparring, conflict, fighting), but do not mind slower more casual interactions. I want creative RP where different things are happening with new ideas. Strongest Skills: Text-based sparring, Garlean born characters, characters not so sane and deception. A bit about myself: Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: Hirilonde Turuphant, Isilme Turuphant Style of Roleplay: Heavy Immersion. I tend to prefer to put as much of what I do into an RP context as possible. Doesn't mean I'll try and force RP on a mixed group however. Strongest Skills: I'm good at supporting the rp of others, and I think I'm a pretty decent 'proofer'. I have a few story ideas of my own, but mostly I'm out here to support and help the roleplay of others. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crimson Phoenix Characters: Nayade / Drake Blackwell Style of Roleplay: Casual Strongest Skills: Keeping reality and fantasy in their appropriate place. Maintaining a drama-free atmosphere. Click here to send this mentor a PM! Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Soliloquy/Blue Skies Characters: Main: Abaigeal Causland, Alts: Estelle Etoile, Kamaria Dia. Style of Roleplay: I pretty much RP everything and anything. From Light to dark, serious to comical...all of it! Strongest Skills: I would say my strongest skill is getting others to interact with each other. Spur of the moment RP! Random encounters! Making characters blossom into themselves. As for Lore, I know enough, and what I don't know I research! Alright~ Well,Here we go~! I am a 28 year old forum RP addict. Or maybe it's more Junkie? Same difference I suppose. Either way, I started off with AOL chats and moved to MSN email chats, and ended up in forum RP. This tends to be my specialty! I run two comic book based forums (one Marvel and one DC) and have played a wide range of characters to the irritating pipsqueak to the down trodden hero to the sultry villainess. So chaaaances are if you have questions on personalities or needing to figure out character I can HALP!! Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: Aysun Demiir Style of Roleplay: Heavy, immersive, "realistic." I am a reactive RPer, so I usually do not lead, or need, big storylines. I do all sorts of stuff IC though: adventure, tavern, one-on-one, and even things like raids and battlefield stuff when possible. Strongest Skills: Miqo'te lore, wiki set-up, journaling!, character development over time, making "common" interesting. x3 I go by "Aysun" online. I live in the central timezone with a job that requires me to be alive and at work by 7am, so I'm kinda an early-sleeper during the week, so keep that in mind if you want to chat! My Skype is "battakappu" or you can just send me a PM on here if it's easier. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: John Spiegel, Alex Silversheath (Spiegel) and "PROJECT JJRoeg" (a completely new character for me) Style of Roleplay: Pretty light-heart or comical at times. Can get really heavy/sad if a time calls for it but for the most part my main (JJ) is pretty much a real life digital Loony Toon while he slays dragons and behemoths and stuff. JJ, to most onlookers, is a man of horrible morals and choices. I'd like to think he has questionable morals and sometimes bad choices! Strongest Skills: I'm pretty good at just "going" with it and figuring something out along the way. I'm no lore-mongerer, but I stick to what I know. The kind of roleplaying I do as JJ is usually pretty reactionary as in I don't have many arcs in the works and tend to just go with the flow. As stated above, I'm all over the board when it comes to light-hearted to heavy RP. I enjoy it all. I even combine them at times! What fun! Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Wild Sky Characters: Tyriont Gaiadl, numerous others as members of the Phoenix Pirates (primarily Wandering Lion, Salaah Latifoh and Agile Wolf) Style of Roleplay: Light-hearted adventure. While I'm not adverse to more serious plots and like them sprinkled in, I prefer to keep things light these days. Ty and his crew are very much Robin Hood types of characters, intent upon helping the downtrodden while retaining their own freedom. Beyond that, heavy. I prefer sticking to the lore as closely as realistically possible and will probably be IC 99% of the time in public unless I'm doing something with non-RPers. Strongest Skills: Merging RL pirate Lore into Eorzean lore in a way that's consistent with the original story. Making a character be somewhat 'villainous' in certain lights while still being likable. Finding ways for characters from wildly differing backgrounds to interact. I really don't have much more to add, honestly. I roleplayed for many years in FFXI and do so on a regular basis in RL tabletop RPG settings. My attention is somewhat easily diverted, so as a mentor I'm well suited for someone who doesn't mind waiting a little bit if the needed response is fairly detailed. I reckon I'd best be set as a mentor to someone who wants to portray a more roguish type of character who wants to know ways to RP out consequences to their actions without spending half their playtime stuck in an IC jail, but while still not being lore-breaking or horribly unrealistic. Similarly, someone who wants to play a naval character might find me useful as I've got a lot of experience in that regard. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Corvus Cinis Characters: Alothia Starkwood, Lini Oakenwave Style of Roleplay: I'm about 50%-75% IC when I'm online, and enjoy all aspects of RP, from Slice-of-life, to Tavern, to Adventure Strongest Skills: I'm a first time RPer, so I can help you figure out how to get started if you're new to this. I'm also an English and Creative Writing teacher, so if you need help on how to write well, how to develop backstory, or how to improve basic things like emotes, etc, I'm your gal! I'm willing to mentor someone. I suppose I've pretty much taken Para under my wing if that counts. But if anyone else needs someone, I'd be more than happy to help~! Server: Gilgamesh Primary Linkshell: Facets of Eorzea Characters: Matillias Goldhammer Style of Roleplay: I would classify myself as heavy but... I fall into that space in between heavy and intermediate. I am also what I like to call a organic rper who tries to avoid scripting as much as possible. Strongest Skills: My strengths are building atypical characters with a free formed background from the lore provided for races and classes. However, I am not only limited to this, I like to give constructive criticism as well. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: The Blue Skies Adventuring Company Characters: Endemerrin Rosethorne, Rorolumu Nonolumu Style of Roleplay: I enjoy heavily immersing myself in the world of XIV. As such, I tend to stick as close to the lore as possible, though I'm completely on board with bending it within reason of the setting. I'm all about adventure. I do lead an adventuring company, after all~ Strongest Skills: I think you'd be hard pressed to find some one better versed in Garlean/Imperial lore, as well as the field of Magitek. Actually, I'm a lore nut in general. I don't think much lore has slipped between the fingers of Gospel and I. I'm also huge into endgame, and can assist with everything from rotations, to min-maxing, to fight mechanics themselves. I'm Merri. I've been with the RPC since well before XIV's original run had launched. Stuck through the game for the most part (Save for the rare occasional break here and there. Never going over a few weeks.) Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Corvus Cinis/Blue Skies Characters: Kassandra Dawn (will like to my wiki afterwork) Style of Roleplay: Moderate to Heavy Strongest Skills: I enjoy being a sounding board for ideas and helping others research anything they could possibly need for their characters. will move my stuff over here after work Server: Gilgamesh Primary Linkshell: Limitless Sky Characters: Amaare Margolis/Asambe Kyambe/Marques Varsonde Style of Roleplay: Heavy Strongest Skills: I am pretty good at finding obscure hard to find lore and making it work. Have a unconventional idea? Find me and we can figure out how to make it work and still have it based on lore. I will say that right now I am still learning the lore of FFXIV myself so we can learn it together! Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Rosa Characters: Sienna Skye Style of Roleplay: Heavy Strongest Skills: Hardcore Lore-researcher, and heavy into Endgame. Reliable regarding both RP and actual ingame content. Also good with assisting name creation and concept design. With 15+ years RP experience, I've been playing Final Fantasy XIV since Beta in 2010. The gameplay has changed a lot over the years, but the world itself and it's lore has only grown. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: None as of yet. Characters: L'yhta Mahre Style of Roleplay: I'm into immersive RP. I'm pretty much IC all the time unless otherwise noted. I like both adventure and tavern RP, but I also like my RP to be realistic, serious, and rooted in lore. That's not to say funny things can't happen, just that I don't treat RP as a trifle. Strongest Skills: Miqo'te and main scenario quest lore, small group RP, natural growth and development of a single character, the mechanics of online RP, and creating scenes where characters can interact. I also like to think I'm a passable writer. Server:Balmung Primary Linkshell:Unsung Heroes Characters:Elisea Renyven Style of Roleplay: All around healthy balance of roleplaying, favors more in character development, growth and story-arcs. I enjoy pretty much a variety of roleplaying aspects, one of my least favorite occupations in roleplay is tavern sitting but other than that. Otherwise, the skies the limit when it comes to roleplaying. Strongest Skills: I'm good at researching lore or trying to find answers. I'm always entirely into bouncing ideas back and forth, character concepts and studying a direction a character wants to go. I can offer input about 4-5 different characters if necessary to help someone select exactly what they want from a character. Brainstorming is the best thing I enjoy and theorycrafting. I been roleplaying for almost 20 years off and on through the world wide internet. I've been into MMORPGS since Ultima Online and IRC roleplaying was two of my big things. I'm pretty much a flexible person and I take immersion seriously when I'm in roleplay mode. When I'm not in roleplay mode, I still respect many guidelines as a roleplayer. I still use {{OOC}} brackets when talking to roleplayers even when I'm not roleplaying myself. I'm very big on storylines, I enjoy dming on the side and building up event ideas. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Misericorde Characters: Isaac Jacobi Style of Roleplay: I tend toward "adventure" RP, and I place a heavy emphasis on honesty of circumstance. Now. What do I mean by that? When I say "honesty of circumstance", I mean that I tend to apply as realistic a lens as possible to the setting, the people in it, and what's going on. On the lore end, I mean...they're the basic rules of the world we're all agreeing to play in, so naturally, I'm not against it being bent, but there are certainly lines that probably shouldn't be crossed. Strongest Skills: Realism, research, minutia, and horror. I'm pretty good at horror. I've been roleplaying for about 14 years, if that matters to anybody anywhere for any reason, and I've always had a predilection toward settings and characters that were as human and tangible as they could possibly be. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: Eva Ianeira Style of Roleplay: Immersive and serious, I tend to favor a realistic balance between tragedy and encouragement through my characters' back-stories and interactions with other characters. Strongest Skills: Healing, Religion pertaining to the Twelve, Duskwight Culture, Storytelling gatherings, putting together smaller gatherings (often tea parties) or one-on-one meetings, developing a dynamic character gradually and realistically over time, and emphasis on one character (instead of several alts) Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Blue Skies/Soliloquy Characters: Xenedra Ambreaus Style of Roleplay: A healthy mixture of Adventure and Tavern RP. I prefer action RP where stuff is HAPPENING! and we gotta DO something about it! I also prefer to avoid things that are generally considered lore breaking, but will usually let people push the boundaries if they have a solid explanation. I expect people to deal with consequences in RP. If you commit a crime in the middle of the street at high noon, you might go to jail, you know? Strongest Skills: RP involving performance, feminine boldness and secrets~ Also getting people sitting quietly in corners involved in what's going on! I have a working knowledge of the lore at large and the know-how to find out anything I'm missing. Yo yo! I'm Xenedra here on the forums, as well as in game, though I may play with an alt from time to time. The wiki for my dear main character Xene is here. I have a degree in computer art, as well as fine art, and I'm currently being a lazy house-wife as well as a freelance character designer/graphic artist. You can see some of my art here if you're interested :3. Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: Keisuna Hidae, Shiro Turuphant, Aria Veanysus, and Mei Thistlebranch Style of roleplay: Serious, with heavy immersion. I tend to keep things realistic, while still taking it to places that are unexpected and, at times, a bit disturbing. Strongest Skills: My best skills are in character creation, storytelling, making sure backstories are consistent, and I've got a fair grasp on the lore. Hello, I'm Ellie! I've been roleplaying for more than 15 years now, ever since I started with AD&D and freeform roleplay on IRC channels. I've been active in the greater Final Fantasy XIV roleplaying community for over a year now, and I love every minute of it. I can't say I'm a huge lore buff, but if you need help with your character, I have plenty of advice to offer. Click here to send this mentor a PM! My first MMO was Ultima Online, though I definitely never RP'd in it. I used to do all my RP exclusively on yahoo message boards... which I don't think exist anymore : P. That's an indicator of how long I've been RPing, maybe? Either way, I don't want to admit how long it's been! Many years after UO I played Final Fantasy XI. RP'd in that as well, for about 6 years, until XIV came out, then I swapped to that. In the interim between 1.0 and 2.0 I played Guild War 2, Aion, Ragnarok Online 2, and Tera... I pretty much NEED 2.0 release liiike yesterday. My main classes in 1.0 were bard, black mage, and monk. I'm involved in probably too many linkshells, but since I don't have a 9-5 job it hasn't been to difficult to keep up. I help as a sort of second in Blue Skies, from which I plan to get my adventuring fix, I run/help run Intermission, the OOC hub linkshell, and I'm the boss over at Soliloquy, the performing arts LS and tavern. I'm also involved in the FFXIV podcast over on Gamer Escape, Aetheryte Radio. I'm reeeeally excited to see all the new faces and open to helping out anyone who needs it . Drop me a PM or leave a post here if you're interested :> Click here to send this mentor a PM! About Eva The emphasis with Eva has been less on the specific lore itself - though the importance of such cannot be discounted. Instead as a character she is very highly attuned to other characters and interactions with them. As a character she has strong tendencies towards being a pacifist (which has been fun to RP during wartimes). She is very motherly, nurturing, kind, and protective of those close to her. Her areas of expertise are weaving and nursing (less a direct doctor role that some RPers take and more a sort of supporter of such with focus on providing comfort, care, a good bedside manner). She is also an extremely spiritual character, a fatalist, and puts devotion before most everything else. Eva's wiki page will be updated in the near future with a lot more information, but the link in my signature to her journals (which are extremely vast) may offer some insight into the character's thoughts and a glimpse at her motivations and interests. She is also duskwight elezen and some backstory we've concocted introduces a clan of these people. OOC I have been RPing for nearly 20 years in some form or another. I started out on a text-based game (MUD) called GemStone III (now GemStone IV) in which being in-character was mandatory. After playing that for several years I moved on to a few other games - none of which took much hold - before landing in the world of Final Fantasy XI. I played on the Gilgamesh server for several months but grew frustrated at the lack of RP until I heard about a group on the Sylph server. I scrapped that character and started fresh on Sylph and was part of a few RPLS's that had relatively brief and tumultuous existences before finally starting one up of my own. Over 8 years I RPed in Vana'diel, and I learned a great deal about RP, perspectives, managing disputes, creating entertaining and believable stories and characters with depth. Those of us who came from Sylph cannot deny that we dealt with a lot of drama there at various points over that time, and I like to think we handled things gracefully throughout most of it. We ended on a high note and disbanded shortly after news of FFXIV was announced. In Final Fantasy XIV, I have been around since the 1.0 alpha testing and have never quit nor taken any break from the game for more than a week or two. I have no interest in any other MMO's on the market and plan to be around for a long time to come. At the onset I did not wish to lead a linkshell again. I felt I would be more useful in an 'advisor' type role, and Eva was created to help facilitate this IC in tandem with OOC. I have belonged to a number of linkshells. I was an arbiter in TALE, I was a premier in Outer Heaven, a lieutenant in the Eorzean Guard, archonte in Everwatch, and most recently upon the disbandment of Everwatch I have decided to take up leadership again with Crystalline - which in 1.0 had no real purpose or mission, though this will be changing in ARR. How Eva will fare in-character as a character that was designed to be an advisor in the role of a leader will be interesting - and I think a lot of fun - to RP. I have met a lot of wonderful RPers with varying styles and techniques and preferences, and it has been a lot of fun so far, and looking forward to more! While the background may seem daunting to some, please understand that I very seldom hold any grand expectations for other RPers. I have said before a number of times that I would RP with most anyone. While I can be somewhat opinionated at times, I am tolerant and patient and love to hear other RPers talk about their characters, ideas for characters, event plans, and really just about anything pertaining to RP in FFXIV. I'm happy to mentor or help mentor anyone who would like to talk about RP and their/our characters. I do invest a lot of time and energy in establishing backstory, history, and plausible motivations for character behavior, though I admit some of this happens on the fly as well. I have strong opinions about the use of healing (both magical and mundane methods), as I do about the game's theological system. I do not possess the "alt-itis" that some RPers have. I have very seldom played more than one character in any game-type environment, investing all my energy into one character and making her as realistic and plausible. She embodies various strengths and weaknesses that I feel make her somewhat unique. I also prefer to RP in-game in a "realistic" manner rather than conveying character thoughts or feelings through emotes. I have always favored using facial expressions, emotes, and the character's words herself to convey her thoughts and feelings. The type of RPer who might be interested in having me as a mentor might be anyone regarded as a healer, anyone spiritual in nature, any duskwight elezen (though I admit Eva is RPed somewhat as an exception to the stereotype), or anyone who invests a lot of time into one character and values complexity, complication, realism, and "grit" - or that some stories do not always have a happy ending and dealing with loss, trauma, heartache, and betrayal is a very real part of life. I should also mention that I was endgame oriented in FFXI and was never one of those RPers that didn't understand how to play the game. I was a dragoon with a fully upgraded relic weapon, a good assortment of gear (I did not participate in /every/ facet of endgame), and usually led DD parses (yes as a loldrg, and prior to relic upgrade) and things like that. While I don't think I will be as crazy about the endgame scene this go-round, I do mean to take that facet of the game seriously as well. Though my primary reason for being here is - as it was in FFXI - for the RP. Endgame will always take a back seat to that, for me at least. I'm not sure what else I can add, and this has become long enough that I feel it best to put under a spoiler tag, but do feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions or would be interested in being mentored. Contact Info: Skype: Eva.Ianeira Gmail: eva.ianeira (at) gmail (dot) com PM's here on the RPC work great! I'm accustomed to working with a variety of character concepts, and no matter what it is you might need done, I will work with you for as long as it takes. My ultimate aim with this program is to help you get your character to where you want them to be. With that in mind: I'm not exactly cuddly. I believe you, the potential mentee, deserve honesty. Not derision. Those are totally different. I believe that every last individual here is capable of making and playing an exceptional character, and I will, naturally, try to hold you to the absolute highest standard that I can. Click here to send this mentor a PM! Some of my best memories was in SWG and a few other MMOS spending hours building up roleplaying events and then running all night roleplaying stories that really helped shape characters and the like. I am also someone that enjoys every aspect of a game to the maximum and I'm also rather social-able and try to make time for anyone who makes time to visit with me. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I've been RPing in MMOs since EverQuest (and RPing online since... well... Prodigy was available and MUSHes were still common ). I've got a lot of tabletop RPG experience as well. So, I know a bit about how to RP and how to build a believable character that works within the world's lore. I can also help with the mechanics of RP -- what's considerate to other players, how to handle situations of consent and in character consequences, how to run events, and the like. I played XIV briefly in 1.x, but quit quickly due to its massive issues. I've decided to come back for ARR, and I've decided to make keeping track of miqo'te and main scenario quest lore my hobbies. So, if you're interested in those things, feel free to shoot me a PM even if you don't want a mentor. As a mentor, I can offer you advice, adventure RP, and a character who'll try to drag you into RP events whenever possible. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I love to help people get into their characters, whether it's by asking questions, giving scenarios, or just advising on what might cause problems down the road (if there are any) when it comes to interactions with others. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I am a master at what I like to call "freeform" roleplay- improvisation non scripted storylines and full world rp. My motto is if it happens it happened. I don't do retcons as the show -must- go on! I am also an events master and have done lore based events to teach people lore in the other mmo's I've played. Last but not least I'm pretty skilled at making tavern rp not only great, but also being able to icly get tavern rp to lead to fantastic adventures outside of the tavern. Never turn down potential possibilities! In the past I've run or helped run two successful taverns/bars including getting a name to stick that is still being used to this day. Need any advice on running a tavern? I'm your man! *Even if I don't mentor you my characters are all pretty approachable so if you see any of them don't be afraid to engage them. I never ignore anyone and will rp with everyone. One of my constants is playing characters who have some sort of humorous aspect or way about them even when I play a snobbish character. I just enjoy entertaining people, making them laugh and providing the most fun rp experience we can have together. Free Company: None yet but looking Click here to send this mentor a PM! Click here to send this mentor a PM! In-character I play a former Garlean (nationality only, not military) who migrated to Eorzea at a young age due to certain circumstances. He's an adventurer at his core, but also a talented Magitek engineer with almost two decades of daily experience under his belt. He's incredibly optimistic about everything he does, and will drag just about anyone off on a grand adventure if they show even the faintest hint of interest in the idea. Even after five years in stasis after the battle of Carteneau's end, he's already eager and excited to take in everything new Eorzea has to offer. You can find out more about him here if that suits your fancy. Whenever I do find myself in-character, I'm always there 100%. Immersion is a big thing for me, so I do my best to just dig in as best as I can. I'm open to most things, though, and will work with pretty much anyone to get something going so long as I'm comfortable with it. In-game I'm very much into PvE and will most likely be heavy into PvP come 2.0 launch. I'm a min-maxer for the most part. I like making my character as efficient as possible. As far as 1.0 goes, I had every disciple of war and magic to 50, as well as all seven jobs fully unlocked. I never got heavy into crafting or gathering, and as such my only 50 crafting discipline was Armorer. I more or less completed everything the game had to offer in terms of endgame, sans Ifrit Extreme and Van Darnus Hard Mode. While I never finished my first relic, I got pretty close. I'm also absolutely obsessed with the lore of XIV, and have pretty much crammed as much of it into my head as I possibly could. If there's a question about Eorzea, I'll either have it tucked away in my head, in one of my many text files, or at my fingertips with a proper search. Naturally, I'm going to be busy with quite a few things come the launch of ARR, but even during 1.0 I did my best to make time to help out anyone who asked. I plan to carry over that mindset to 2.0. So, if anyone feels courageous enough, grab my tail and hold on tight. It'l be a wild ride for sure. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I am going to start this off with two disclaimers that will affect me being your mentor. :chocobo: 1. I am lazy with lore even though I love learning it. If I haven't needed to know it yet I probably won't but that doesn't mean I am not unwilling to help you (the student) with finding and learning said lore since I do love learning it. 2. There are much better mentors out there for you. I will not lie. Many others are far more adept then I at FFXIV lore, character types, etc. but i am reaching out to help people who may be intimidated by such folks, prefer not to be just dictated at (not saying all do but you get what I mean), and to generally be warm friendly face to those who are lost and confused about FFXIV: ARR. I've been rping for about 5 years but just recently started to really...delve into it you can say. I am used to rping in MMOs and in things like DnD environments and I have never done scripted roleplay. Not once! I am into what I like to call living world roleplay where I don't script anything unless the character ICly plans to script an event. So...everything is chaos and butterflies with my rp you could say except often the butterflies are like that episode of fringe (not really). :chocobo: One thing I should mention is I was most recently a student under a mentor! Yes, under the fabulous Kassandra Dawn and she really helped me get my feet wet. So! I am still "young" enough to remember that weak legged fawn stage so if that helps (which I hope it does) feel free to reach out! :chocobo: I think that's all i should put here because I am terrible at this sort of thing. :chocobo: OHH OHH! One last thing, well two actually. :chocobo: I am planning on mainly rping Hyur and Roe which means my lore knowledge is majorly limited to that, not that I am not willing to learn more in order to help out a student or whatever I should call the people being mentored. So if you are looking for someone to help with those it might be good to come to me, but if you liked my sales pitch, come to me anyway Secondly, you must always put a chocobo in your posts. Everytime a chocobo is posted an angel get its wings! :chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo: Though in all seriousness I tend to prefer serious rp to light hearted so this is where I will be focusing on making myself better and I would love to help others who strive to meet this endeavor themselves for sometimes we go in looking for help but instead end up helping the helpers. I think we should all strive to do our best and that we are never done learning and I would be pleased as a kitten with a saucer of milk if you choose me to help you get started in this new setting. Click here to send this mentor a PM! If you're interested in pairing up with me, go ahead and shoot me a PM. ^^ A little bit about me: I'm Alothia, or Aly if you prefer. I'm a 29 year old high school English and Creative Writing teacher. I'm I new person to RP and MMOs with this game. I didn't actually start RPing until about 2 or 3 months after launch, and I was swept away with it. The community was great and continues to be great. As far as my RP philosophy goes, I believe that everyone has a place in the RP community, and I try to do my darndest to interact with every character at least one point in time. As far as what I offer to the mentoring table, I feel that I can help provide you with an understanding of the community and how it works, how to get involved in the RP community, and how to start creating a character and fitting them into the world, as I had to do all of this when I started this game. If you need anything at all, even if that doesn't mean being my minion, I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have. You can catch me on Skype: AlySedai I'm usually invisible, but don't hesitate to send me a message anyway. Anywho, I don't mind having more mentees, so if you're still looking, hit me up. I'm happy to take on a few more~! Click here to send this mentor a PM! A quick summary of Tyriont the character, since it could be relevant - Pirate, 'Chaotic Good' type, robs from those he sees as deserving it and distributes to the poor of Limsa Lominsa after taking his crew's share. Charming and flirtatious, horrendously overconfident and nowhere near as awesome as he thinks he is. Click here to send this mentor a PM! Click here to send this mentor a PM! I've been RPing online for about eight years, and have seen many facets of RP on XIV over the last three years (I joined during the first open beta and never left--I'm a glutton for punishment..). My style varies depending on the situation, from simple speech to longer, detailed emotes. My preferences when it comes to RP are pretty simple. I believe a great RPer works within the lore we are given, rather than trying to find loopholes or pushing it to the breaking point. I believe that "common" does not mean "boring." I prefer realistic, gritty RP that is emotional over epic storylines. I love helping people flesh out their characters by brainstorming with them and providing feedback and ideas where I can based on what I know and what I have seen in the past. I have a couple mentees that are more like friends now, so I'm anxious to take on a couple more! Click here to send this mentor a PM! Here in the realm of FFXIV: You'll find me as Abai. She is kind of a fun character that likes to draw others in and because of her nature most find it easy to interact with. Well what does that have to do with me and mentoring? Welp! Everything. It's sometimes easiest to immerse yourself in something if the character too can be a guide or a tool. Abai is rather patient and motherly at times.(When people aren't turning her into a pile of blush). Which if you are new to RP she can help be a spring board. I too am a pretty patient person andhave no problem taking anyone who wants to either become fully immersed in the RP or just wants a little help figuring out their character. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I've been roleplaying for years, since way back in Final Fantasy XI. With Crystalline no less. That doesn't mean I haven't run with other groups. The characters I tend to play tend to be hopeless Paladins. Not always NICE, but very much Lawful Good, and they generally just want to make the world a better place, and that means helping others. I've also done a fair bit of writing, and I'm generally a good sounding board for ideas, as well as pretty good at coming up with filler ideas to bridge concepts. Mostly, any RPer needs others to roleplay with, and the more people I can rp with and get involved in the stories of, the better. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I play Deirdre Ta'ea as my main and Kohrae Crimsonscale as my alt. IRL I am a Canadian 23 year old female, Executive Director of Learning Technologies for Alberta Health Services. I've been roleplaying on and off since I was about 13 through various mediums in personally created worlds and stories as well as various game worlds. As far as FFXIV goes, I've been roleplaying since 1.0 closed beta onward with a very established main character. I have also held officership with The Eorzean Guard and Everwatch shells, and been a member of Sanctus Refero, Aes Sedai Tower/Corvus Cinis, Blue Skies, and a variety of OOC end game linkshells. ICly I specialize in the RP mechanics of combat, I have spent a lot of time sparring with others inside and outside of FFXIV, and I've also taught many people new to the tedious ways of RP sparring different methods of dealing with the interaction, as well as possible fallout's. As well, I have a deep knowledge of Garlean characters and Lore, as my main character is a Garlean, and I would love to assist anyone considering or having troubles developing a character from The Empire. I am very deeply seeded in the Lore, but it it my personal view that there is a certain amount of proper flexibility, when done correctly. Detailed interactions are also extremely important to me. OOCly I currently run the OOC Skype chatroom created for everyone, as well as the OOC Mumble Server and I organize IC events randomly, including cannon/non-cannon RP sessions while the game is down. When it is up I have also participated in the creation of many IC events including storytelling and training exercises. I am extremely active in the wiki. I take pride in it, it's important to me. It's a hobby. If you're interested in maybe sharing my passion, hit me up. I'll help out in any and every way I can. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I also tend to stick to neutral and good alignments. No villains please. I know how to write a good villain, but don't have the heart to RP one, and thats an important distinction. My characters tend to have good intentions, even if its self-centered good. Click here to send this mentor a PM! I've made a special study of lore relating to the mysterious relationship between the lost empire of Allag, Mor Dhona, Sharlayan, the Primals, and the mysterious Ascians. Ohh, you can bet your sweet Lalafell arse that they're all related, and poised to raise calamity that makes Bahamut toasting the canopy off The Black Shroud seem disinteresting by comparison. 2.0 will be a wild ride, and I can help you write your way into it. I've also written a manual on roleplay etiquette and troll disarmament strategies. Ellie Posted July 18, 2013 Author Share #2 Posted July 18, 2013 For our mentors... First of all, it's awesome that you're considering being a mentor! Everyone knows how awkward it can be to jump into a community that's just full of people, and not know where to go or who to talk to, and the fact that you're willing to help is part of the reason this community is so great. Here are some of the basic guidelines... You're not here to recruit new members into your linkshell. Feel free to recommend it if they don't have a preference, but don't try to pressure them if they don't want to join your linkshell. Ideally you should try to help them find a linkshell that they'd want to be in. Being a mentor is not a position of authority. You're not getting deputized here, you're volunteering to help those who need it. Please be courteous. This should go without saying, but do try to keep your mentee's needs in mind. Try to give them as much one-on-one time as you can. Please let us know when you take on a new mentee. In order to make sure we don't let newcomers fall by the wayside, we'll want to keep tabs on who has a mentor and who doesn't. Feel free to PM me or any of the other moderators. If you can no longer dedicate time to mentoring, or if you've got as many mentees as you can handle, please tell us. Again, please tell either me or any of the other moderators and we'll move you to the "Temporarily Unavailable" section. No sense having you on the active mentor's list if you're not looking for mentees. Now that we have that out of the way, all that's left is to get your form filled out and posted in the thread. In this way, we can help streamline the process by putting the important information at the forefront while still allowing you to express what you're about in detail should they want to learn more. In order to keep things short and easy to read, we must ask that you keep the "Characters", "Style of Roleplay" and "Strongest Skills" answers short and to the point. Try to stay around 200 characters for each answer, or 600 characters combined. If you need more room to explain, expound upon it in the spoiler. Server: On what server will you spend most of your time? Primary Linkshell: What is your primary linkshell? Characters: Either list your characters here with links to their wiki pages or write a short description of what kind of characters you play. Style of Roleplay: Do you enjoy a lot of immersion? Do you prefer light hearted romps over deeply involved and possibly darker roleplay? Strongest Skills: Are you a lore nut? Do you know a lot about how to make believable characters? What kind of knowledge can you offer your mentees? This is where people will look when they want more information about you. This is where you can go into as much detail as you like, no character limits or anything, but do keep in mind the attention span of your readers. You can find the code for the form below, just copy and paste it into your post and fill it out. Xenedra Posted July 22, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Blue Skies/Soliloquy Characters: Xenedra Ambreaus Style of Roleplay: A healthy mixture of Adventure and Tavern RP. Drop me a PM or leave a post here if you're interested :> Link to comment
Eva Posted July 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: Eva Ianeira Style of Roleplay: Immersive and serious, I tend to favor a realistic balance between tragedy and encouragement through my characters' back-stories and interactions with other characters. Strongest Skills: Healing, Religion pertaining to the Twelve, Duskwight Culture, Storytelling gatherings, putting together smaller gatherings (often tea parties) or one-on-one meetings, developing a dynamic character gradually and realistically over time, and emphasis on one character (instead of several alts) About Eva The emphasis with Eva has been less on the specific lore itself - though the importance of such cannot be discounted. Shuck Posted July 22, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Misericorde Characters: Isaac Jacobi Style of Roleplay: I tend toward "adventure" RP, and I place a heavy emphasis on honesty of circumstance. A bit more on what I might offer you: While I don't obsess over hoarding bits and pieces of lore, I'm more than happy to help you find whatever it is I don't immediately know. Elisea Renyven Posted July 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 22, 2013 Server:Balmung Primary Linkshell:Unsung Heroes Characters:Elisea Renyven Style of Roleplay: All around healthy balance of roleplaying, favors more in character development, growth and story-arcs. Link to comment
FreelanceWizard Posted July 22, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Mysterium, the Ivory Tower Characters: L'yhta Mahre Style of Roleplay: I'm into immersive RP. Link to comment
Sienna Posted July 22, 2013 Share #8 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Rosa Characters: Sienna Skye Style of Roleplay: Heavy Strongest Skills: Hardcore Lore-researcher, and heavy into Endgame. Reliable regarding both RP and actual ingame content. Also good with assisting name creation and concept design. With 15+ years RP experience, I've been playing Final Fantasy XIV since Beta in 2010. The gameplay has changed a lot over the years, but the world itself and it's lore has only grown. I love to help people get into their characters, whether it's by asking questions, giving scenarios, or just advising on what might cause problems down the road (if there are any) when it comes to interactions with others. 1 Link to comment
Gideon Aryeh Posted July 22, 2013 Share #9 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Gilgamesh Primary Linkshell: Limitless Sky Characters: Amaare Margolis/Asambe Kyambe/Marques Varsonde Style of Roleplay: Heavy Strongest Skills: I am pretty good at finding obscure hard to find lore and making it work. Have a unconventional idea? Find me and we can figure out how to make it work and still have it based on lore. I will say that right now I am still learning the lore of FFXIV myself so we can learn it together! Free Company: None yet but looking Link to comment

Merri Posted July 22, 2013 Share #11 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: The Blue Skies Adventuring Company Characters: Endemerrin Rosethorne, Rorolumu Nonolumu Style of Roleplay: I enjoy heavily immersing myself in the world of XIV. Never going over a few weeks.) In-character I play a former Garlean (nationality only, not military) who migrated to Eorzea at a young age due to certain circumstances. Link to comment
Bauldric Posted July 22, 2013 Share #12 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Gilgamesh Primary Linkshell: Facets of Eorzea Characters: Matillias Goldhammer Style of Roleplay: I would classify myself as heavy but... :chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo: /end Wait...nooo...I want to add more....but I won't for the reader's sanity. And no, I am not serious in this part of the ad. I mean, I have to give you an idea of the insanity you will be working with. :chocobo: Though in all seriousness I tend to prefer serious rp to light hearted so this is where I will be focusing on making myself better and I would love to help others who strive to meet this endeavor themselves for sometimes we go in looking for help but instead end up helping the helpers. I think we should all strive to do our best and that we are never done learning and I would be pleased as a kitten with a saucer of milk if you choose me to help you get started in this new setting. Alothia Posted July 22, 2013 Share #13 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Corvus Cinis Characters: Alothia Starkwood, Lini Oakenwave Style of Roleplay: I'm about 50%-75% IC when I'm online, and enjoy all aspects of RP, from Slice-of-life, to Tavern, to Adventure Strongest Skills: I'm a first time RPer, so I can help you figure out how to get started if you're new to this. Link to comment
Tyriont Posted July 22, 2013 Share #14 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Wild Sky Characters: Tyriont Gaiadl, numerous others as members of the Phoenix Pirates (primarily Wandering Lion, Salaah Latifoh and Agile Wolf) Style of Roleplay: Light-hearted adventure. Link to comment
John Spiegel Posted July 22, 2013 Share #15 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: John Spiegel, Alex Silversheath (Spiegel) and "PROJECT JJRoeg" (a completely new character for me) Style of Roleplay: Pretty light-heart or comical at times. What fun! Link to comment
Ellie Posted July 22, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted July 22, 2013 First post has been updated. Just a reminder for our Mentors, please try to make sure that the last three fields on your short form are around 200 characters or less (or 600 combined). Also, feel free to post a link to the Mentor Program in welcome threads if it seems like the new member might benefit from it! Link to comment
Aysun Posted July 22, 2013 Share #17 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: Aysun Demiir Style of Roleplay: Heavy, immersive, "realistic." I am a reactive RPer, so I usually do not lead, or need, big storylines. Link to comment
Abaigeal Posted July 22, 2013 Share #18 Posted July 22, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Soliloquy/Blue Skies Characters: Main: Abaigeal Causland, Alts: Estelle Etoile, Kamaria Dia. Link to comment

Isilme Posted July 24, 2013 Share #20 Posted July 24, 2013 Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Crystalline Characters: Hirilonde Turuphant, Isilme Turuphant Style of Roleplay: Heavy Immersion. Link to comment
