Possible Rise in Harassment/Grief of RPers?

Recommended Posts

I haven't noticed anything but I haven't chilled in the Quicksand in quite some time (mostly been wanting to get 50 Warrior out of the way so I can start building up a decent RP set). There's the usual stuff going on in Ul'dah and it took me maybe a week after I joined the game to notice so it's not really a new development.

Then again I'm way too girly for my class apparently ;P

Perhaps it's not the upstanding citizens that bring them to Ul'dah but instead the hot bar maid!  Totally that. Sorry guys, I didn't mean it!

I say we take over Gridania, have parties under the bridges.

*Becomes traffic control and diverts more RP'ers to Limsa and Gridania*

Besides, at least pirates/Limsa folk are more honest and open with their intentions, unlike Ul'dah where they seem to be very sneaky-sneaky, under-the-table, twiddling their thumbs and hoping to kidnap you into their slave/prostitution ring.

At least when a pirate catcalls you, you can tell them to fuck-off. :D

Problem is not Ul'Dah.

It has never been Ul'Dah.

I would track down that post that Osric put up somewhere sometime ago about all the great things about RP in Ul'Dah.

I love RP in Ul'Dah. I love the setting. The clear divide in politics, the architectural layout, Law enforcement LSs, everything.

This thread is about Harassment and Griefers but people jump on the opportunity to go "let's leave Ul'Dah!" That isn't the solution. Create RP that draws people to other cities. Don't bash Ul'Dah to get people there.

I RP wherever the story takes me. I've gone to Gridania and Limsa. And likely will go there again. But let the RP draw people there, not bashing a great setting. (this isn't directed at anyone, it's just a trend I've noticed in multiple threads)

And... this really doesn't have anything to do with Griefers and Harrassment so... um, my contribution/take on it is: I blacklist quickly.

There. :)

You can create the best RP ever in either Limsa or Gridania, but if nobody's there to see it there's no real point. It has to be good and it has to be consistent. It'd be cool if all three cities were good hubs, and quite frankly I much prefer the Wench to the Quicksand in terms of NPC atmosphere (although it may just be attachment to the first adventurers' alehouse I encountered due to Kellach starting in Limsa)

Then again there's no point leaving Ul'dah to begin with - Where there is RP, there will be griefing/trolling/what have you. All you'd be doing is displacing the "problem".

I haven't really noticed any more trolls or harassment than usual. The biggest burst of that was, of course, at launch. After that, I imagine all the trolls got banned and learned their lesson or ragequit, quit for unrelated reasons, or got bored and realized they have other things to do and too many RPers in the game to possibly troll them all. Since shortly after launched the amount of trolls seemed to decline and has gone on pretty steadily since then from what I've seen.

I've noticed a bit of a rise in harassment and griefing over the past few months, I'm not particularly fond of it myself and it does get quite irritating not being able to use a part of Ul'dah to RP in as it's been completely cordoned off and taken over. I personally just use a blacklist on sight approach to the situation. Heavy handed but it works rather well.

In regards of some of the harassment coming from members of TGCid I'd like to put this out there - Our FC has a zero-tolerance policy of harassing others. A fair few of us in the FC's ranks RP and none of us condone this sort of behaviour.

If there's any further harassment from TGCid members I would like you to take screenshots of their behaviour and either contact me on these forums or in game so I can carry this forward. If I'm unreachable you can also contact Pescarus Haustier in game to discuss it (one of our officers) or Baerys Heiral (our FC master).

My condolences to anyone who's been negatively affected by members of our FC or had their RP interrupted by it. Rest assured I'll be making sure this is taken up internally so this hopefully doesn't happen again.

First I want to apologize to TGCid and its members. When I FC-name-dropped it wasn't to point fingers at the FC and its members to name them as griefers or harassers but to pinpoint where some have mentioned the area they were getting issues in. I seem to have caused an issue where very likely there is none at all. For that, I deeply apologize.

I, myself, have personally not received any type of the behavior being talked about in this thread but I also hand out blacklisting liberally.

Don't worry about it, no harm done by it!

My stance still stand though, if any harassment does come from any of our members please screenshot what happens and inform myself or one of the people I mentioned in my previous post. RP is supposed to be a fun time for everyone involved but if I have to make sure the hammer is cracked out when people are rude and uncouth then I shall do just that.

As for all these things though - Blacklists work wonders and I can only encourage their use.

I, like many others here, just blacklist pretty much everyone. I may be a bit too liberal about handing them out. If I see someone with a blatant anime name--as in named after a character in an anime, I blacklist them. I do this because those characters are not part of this world, don't belong, and it can ruin any sort of immersion to see them trying to be played. Same if I see any pop culture exact/hybrid names and characters from games/movies/whatever.. If someone dances on my table, emote spams, whatever--blacklist. Then I just ignore their presence and forget about them entirely. :)

There's no such thing as "ruining my immersion." There are going to be people who give their characters names that don't 100% fit in with the game world. There are going to be pop culture references and non-RPers. It's one of the things I learned in about 1996 on the text-based game that springboarded me into the world of online RP - people are people, and not all of them are going to fit neatly into the perfect little world I've created in my head. You learn to filter 'em out. That's Roleplaying 101.

I can assure you I am well versed filtering them out. But depending on how bad they irk me, I'm also fond of just ignoring them altogether so that I don't have to be bothered with more spam filling up my screen while I'm trying to read!

He speaks the truth, I try to troll on him all the time. He keeps turning me down. Someday, Senpai will notice me. T^T

Though, in all seriousness, it seems the suggestions are all well. As it has been showing through the posts here, it's quite apparent most people mean no harm. Everyone just has to respect that we're all going to have to co-exist, and find ways to share and manage, and deal with each problem case as it arises.

...clearly, we all just need to hug more. Amirite?

It's usually role-players themselves who cause trouble for other role-players. Most of the people who don't role-play tend to leave us be. There's a few exceptions here and there but I'm not led to believe that there's been a rise in the amount of harassment aimed at our kind.

Then again I've long since developed the ability to filter out the sort of players that I'm not interested in interacting with. This is a skill that I urge every role-player to develop as it really makes things a lot more tolerable and fun.

I'd love to know exactly what you mean by this.

I've never found Ul'dah Rp to be clique-y. In fact, I've found it much harder to get into plots outside of Ul'dah than inside.

There honestly has been a slight rise. We had to lock our our FC house because of trolls. It sucks and is a shame.

On a sadder note, I'm sad I have never RPed with you Kage. I use to see you waddle around (lalafell) and say to myself, "Hey that guy right there? He deserves to be tackled by a drunk bard who thinks he might have a pot of gold."

T_T I'm sorry to hear that you've had to lock your FC house.

Also, I'm also sorry to usually never be the one to initiate a hello or RP with you or any others here. My mind usually goes "OMG THEY'RE FROM RPC I WANT TO RP WITH THEM"

And then it spirals into "ohgodohgodohgod the ANXIETY" and I crawl into my shell and wonder why I'm scurred. >.>;

And now I'm not a little lalafell who claims his rail spot. In fact MULTIPLE LALAFELL TOOK IT OVER AND HERE KAGE IS NOT ONE NOW. MIIINE. IT WAS MINE FIRST /wineandcheeseplz

I guess I'm going to have a drunk Pyra yank on your tail and say, "When does the candy come out?"
