Lore panel answers

Recommended Posts

I updated my first post with the Q&A from Aetheryte Radio's Interview with Fernehalwes after the Lore Panel! If you're sad that your question didn't get answered on the lore panel! Do NOT miss this! Because Aetheryte Radio does a great job of going back and getting some of those tough questions answered!

Do the days of the week have names? Yes! What's the difference between Primals and Elder Primals? Yes! Is Eynzahr Slafyrsyn Sultana Nanamo's real father? Maybe!

Aetheryte Radio Interview

Do days of the week have names?

-yes, same as xi

Ascians in 2.0 same as 1.0?

-Ascians have ability to take over person body and control them. This was case with Travanchet. Travanchet was a real person but was taken over by an ascian.

Reaper?

-reaper can't talk about.

Primal vs Elder Primal?

-Length of Worship. how long have they been worshiped. you have someone worship you and you become that primal. you get power from prayer. so the belief that drives the beasttribes summons forth the primals. when you look at ifrit and titan they are considered very young. people haven't been believing in them as long as the Elder Primals. in the case of Odin, people worshipped him a looooooooooong time ago, but people stopped worshipping him, so he stopped coming about.

Ascian names borrowed from XII? Is there a deeper connection between Elder Primals and Ascians?

-FF is about borrowing and adjusting it for each game. the XIV game is made up of a lot of XII developers, so they borrowed heavily from the game. they loved the lore. XIV's ascian storyline is drawn heavily from XII. what we see in XIV may have strong connections to XII, but it might not be as deep a connection as we think.

In 1.0 CNJ had access to all six elements, but then THM came about.?

-We blew up and weren't able to put it back together and we cannot explain this. Some things you just don't explain and hope players don't notice. When we decided we needed to make the break between the elements, we had some say in which elements went which way.

All Six primals revealed, which one stopped Garleans?

-All six is not correct. More primals are coming. More primals are canon. Shiva is going to destroy our perceptions of what Primals are and their rules of primals are about to be... not tossed but spun out. Shiva will open up new gateway for new kinds of primals. Ferne cannot tell us which primal stopped the garleans. It's not going to be talked about for a long time, but eventually we will know. PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO IT

Officially, it's now the 7th Astral Era?

-Political thing. Five years ago, half the world was basically destroyed and it was only because Louisoux half-stopped things that people are even still around after the calamity. People still died, livelihoods were destroyed, lands were changed. NPC dialogue is now depressed and reflective of the Calamity. People in all of the nations are pretty much down. Big war with the Garleans, but now they are coming together and Grand Companies were formed. So Grand Company leaders were waiting for something good to happen. So once something did, they announced 7th Astral Era to boost their nation's morale. Purely political decision. So we are, YES, technically in the 7th Astral Era now, not Umbral.

Atomos? Labyrinth of the Ancients?

-Atomos kept getting pushed back. There are plans to have quest for Atomos. Void and rifts open between planes. Planes in constant state of flux, so when they get close sometimes tears occur naturally. But can be opened by magic or beasts. Atomos wants to consume aether, and he can sense rifts. When rifts happen, Atomos is first to go through and suck up as much aether as possible.

Lore about conflicts between Hyur and Elezen?

-Tension between races because bloody history between them. They never made up but put aside their issues. They don't really like each. They just put up with each other because common enemy. In beginning of the 6AE the Elezen migrated back in, then hyur migrated and tried to take Elezen lands. Clashing and moving apart - gets ingrained in their society. Lalafell will rise on occasion and attack other races, for example. In 3.0 we will have half-races. But they are treated different. Quest will come to explain.

Allag all hyur?

-You haven't seen all Allag.

Diabolos and Fenrir have always been big in FF past, but now they're only dungeon bosses?

-Can answer half. Can't answer Fenrir. When you defeat Diabolos, did you really defeat him? You should check out the scene after you defeat Diabolos...

What was the original plan for Dalamud?

-In the 1.0 storyline before Yoshida there was NO plan to bring down the moon. He looked up, saw the two moons that had always been there. Lambs of Dalamud came after hearing Yoshi's ideas for how to make 1.0 into 2.0. Allagans back in that time knew what Dalamud was for. They had the power to bring it back, but didn't want to obviously. Then the Calamity happened and people forgot. But the story gets passed down and corrupted until you get Lambs of Dalamud. They are driven by belief that Dalamud is strong, while Menphina is weak. Because that's what my father believed and my father's father. All the way back to ancient Allag. In Final Coil you get to see the FINAL CULMINATION of everything that came from BRING DOWN THE MOON.

Landmark names? There's a spire named after Dunstan?

-Dunstan was second in command of the Wood Wailers. In the final battle, he kicked some arse and earned his respect.

Teledji Adeledji connected to Ul bloodline?

-He is not part of Ul bloodline. he has different bloodline, but ferne can't talk about it yet. spoilers!

Rhotano Bloodcant? Referred to ancient seafarers language which might have been connected to a horn that the sahagin wanted...

-language is yes, sahagin based.

Is EYNZAHR SLAFYRSYN NANAMO'S FATHER???????

-there are a lot of Mistbeards... he runs off and hides his treasure. when one fades away, another pirate takes his place. Mistbeard legends go on forever. The fact that it is a rumor is how it's supposed to be. He refuses to say! DAMNIT FERNE WHYYYYY

Ixali have staves which have symbols of Llymlaen and Oschon? How does Garuda care?

-Garuda doesn't care. Ixal are crazy compared to Amaljaa who are more advanced and sylphs who are down to earth. Ixal are crazy and hate everyone. They kill their enemies and take their things. They loot them, and that's why they have those staves.

Origin of how Faeries became Scholar's fairies?

-While they are taxonomy of Elementals, they were made by Scholars. They were created by Scholars out of the power of the elementals.

Amberscale Rock and the story of the boy and the boy of the dragon?

-It is not THE dragon from the Boy and Dragon Gay. You will learn more about dragons in 2.4.

In the most recent dungeons (SV hard) there are thaumaturges who turn themselves into dragons. Is it permanent, is it temp?

-PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO IT. We lay down tons of hints because we know what it's going to culminate into. Foreshadowing is a really cool thing.

Allag have spacefaring technology, but what destroyed them was an earthquake. How? Are there spaceships still out there?

-/laughs suspiciously. There aren't a lot of spaceships, similar to real life. They were very technologically advanced and in their hubris they reached too high. But most people were down on hydaelyn listening to ipods. Allagan tomestones = canon USB. But yes, they did have spaceships. Did one or two get away? /shrug.

-There are always people out there who read their history and realize the destruction comes in a cycle. These archons become legends, but they're just people. They get agrandized over time in legend as being people of the Gods and such.

Lots of Data logs, like sightseeing and minions? Are more coming?

-You're safe making your own beastiary. Until we get the okay for an in-game library...

Is Stallman dead?

-NO! (yussssssssssssssssssssssss) So much love for Stallman! Ferne says he will bring Stallman back.

Everything seems to be connecting to Dravanians now! Did the Sharlayans chose to settle there because of Dravanians?

-No, they're not as close as the map makes it seem. Sharlayans weren't in danger. But even now, they've left Sharlayan anyways and gone back to Island Sharlayan. The Sharlayans came to Eorzea to study us. They are a city-state of knowledge. They send people back to catalog. There was some connection between Sharlayan and Dravania, but not that big. Sharlayan city-state was just an outpost.

Other curse words related to twelve?

-Matron's Teats! What a bounty indeed! We have a teen rating, but we have colorful language descriptors. We use british swears because they're less of a curse word to america. We're always trying to push the boundaries, ie nueker.

-Ixals have super high pitched voices. Think Chamberlain from Dark Crystal.

-david bowie's package traumatizes fernehalwes.

Wait so Telediji is not from the Ul but is he still considered "royalty"? SPOILERS?

IS HE FROM thE SIL?

I don't think "Prince" in the context of Ul'dah means a direct relative of the sovereign (child, sibling, uncle etc). In this context it is "Merchant prince", I think.

The most adorable uprising!

I don't think they've ever said the soulstone actually makes you a White Mage.  Yeah, it serves an in-game mechanic, but in the storyline itself, the soulstone is not what makes you a White Mage.  It simply tells Raya-O that A-Towa has chosen you as his successor.

I think what they meant in the answer is that the Elementals granting permission of Succor is not the only source of White Magic. ...since White Magic doesn't imply healing or being "good"

^This.

I personally hate the use of soul stones in the game world for this very reason: the moment they showed up I just knew people were going to use them in RP like "henshin-devices" that immediately upon finding grant you magical superpowers...

On a lighter note, though, I'm glad to have more answers about fairies! I always wondered what exactly they were and now it's good to know (though I do want more details about them)

I tend to agree with this except when it comes to Scholar. But Scholar lore is so afterthoughty and wonky I don't even know why I try sometimes. ;_;

Faeries that accompany Scholars? What are they?

-fall into same category as Sprites, Elementals. Elementals rule Black Shroud and out. Sprites and Faes are lesser elementals. Draw from aether in the world for power.

Wow they actually answered my question. Seems like Faeries and Carbuncles are much more alike being that they are crafted, however Faeries draw from the world's aether to maintain their physical manifestation.

Since Scholars crafted Faeries I wonder if the art of their creation will be unearthed so that more and more faeries will be brought into the world. Though I wonder if faeries are bound to the Scholar like a blood-pact or if they are bound to a Scholar's soul crystal sorta like a lich or homunculus. Since the Faerie you get in the quests was "sleeping" in the soul crystal and Surito Cartio couldn't use it due to his mutated aetheric resonance, it may in fact be a bit of both.

Mmm

A: We know Teledji Adeledji has a connection to the royal blood line, hes a prince. But is he connected to Nanamos blodline?

MCKF: No he’s not. I can tell you he’s not part of the Ul bloodline.

A: So we’ll just keep speculating on that in the forums them!

So Koji Fox specifically says that Telediji is -not- part of the Ul line but he doesn't say "no he's not royalty".

I hope it comes out in 2.4 T_T;

With this revelation, I'm secretly hoping Teledji is a Sil Prince. That would make a choice storyline.

I wish they'd elaborate a little on the whole thing about Elezen having "slightly extended" lifespans. As in, how much is "slightly." Because until I'm told otherwise, I'm not playing the whole stereotypical "fantasy elf" age dealio. Yvelont's just 30. 30! And looks it!

I wouldn't say it is all that much more. He says that they're all essentially the same so I'd say 10-20 more unless I read it wrong

Well if Alphinaud and Alisaie are 16, but look 10-12-ish that gives us a bit of frame of reference as to how Elezen age. They clearly mature slower but not that slow, so it definitely can't be more than 10-20 years longer than the average non-Elezen.
