Rhea Zaheela, an artist from Balmung, is organizing a special giveaway and as I'm the one responsible of this (as it's my challenge for her) I will assist her on this task (♥).

 

 

Theme !

With the incoming Astrologean class, Rhea will draw up a set of tarot cards using characters in the game, so we figured that we may as well make it a contest.

 

Seeing the examples above, you’ll notice that there are 19 cards not drawn out, well that’s where the rest of you come in. Whether not you roleplay or not, are from Balmung, Leviathan, Fairy, or whatever, if you have a character and are interested, throw in your name and “win” the chance to have your character used in one of the cards.

 

Additionally, if you have some sort of preference to which card you wish to have your image used in, include it in a post/ask entry. You can list up to 3, and if you like, give us a reason why you think they’d be a good fit for the card (it doesn’t have to be an exact fit, but remember, tarot cards do have reverse meanings too).

•    Magician: Nako lives for the pursuit of knowledge and Aetherial Power. Death: Nako's current story is all about change, letting go of his current job to embrace new ventures, it also fits him with his mask and shapeshifting. the reverse also works given he is haunted about his past work, and can't let go of that life compeltely. All of which fits the Death card quite nicely

Reason for Card choice (recommended): Dogberry's motivators come from disaster and dealing with abrupt change. He hangs on to the past to the detriment of his present and future.

• Reason for Card choice (recommended):  Eva was originally created with this tarot card in mind several years ago.  Eva is a mother of twin babies, maternal towards her friends and colleagues, nurturing, and exhibits all the qualities that this card is supposed to embody including the bosomy depiction its form often takes.  That also takes into account some of the more sexual traits the card identifies with (however this is not publicly flaunted as such).  I don't feel any other card suits her quite so well as the Empress, but alternatives would be The High Priestess to a lesser degree (though it appears taken) or Temperence (to a far lesser degree).

Reason for Card choice (recommended): Faye is a natural leader with an ambition that won't cease until she is on top of the world. She likes to take charge, ever confident and even a bit narcissistic. The favorite pet name has lover has given her is "Princess."

• Character main class/job/role (Optional): Alchemist/Scientist/Geometry User (ACN but focused heavvvilllyy on math, and less so on magic or summons)

• Reason for Card choice (recommended): Titor is a very intricate character. The first two cards, the Hanged Man and Death, are quite representative of his physical being. Titor has sickle-cell anemia, which often causes him great amounts of pain. He is trying as an alchemist to try to find a cure for it, but so far has only figured out ways to manage it, but it still causes a variety of issues. He works with the Flames and is quite self-sacrificing on that manner. The words for the Hanged Man on the wikipedia seemed to describe him. Passive, confirming, acceptance. He tries to remain optimistic about the health he had been given, but it is very hard, and he has mostly become melancholic about it. He knows he will die at a young age, no matter if he stays out of battle or not.
   
  He has also been in numerous situations of being a PoW/captured/tortured for the Flames. One time even having been taken to Garlemald. He tries to put others before himself, stepping in the way so that he may be taken instead of others. However the amount of carelessness that he has received from those he protects and stands for has, on the most lowest level of his mind, been taking a corrupted seed. Thus the slight implications of traitor on the card may be a bit symbolic of his own questions of his loyalty to the Flames and Eorzea. While he may never actually defect or become a traitor, somewhere deep inside his mind is that thought.
   
  For the World, this one has much less physical/social interpretation of him, but instead dives deep into his math savant-ism. The world is cosmic unity, connectedness. Titor has a much different connection the world than say, a conjurer or one who focuses in on nature. Titor is able to see the underlying algorithms of reality. Math, physics, chemistry. His understanding for the minutiae of the system that makes up reality gives him deep insight into the inner-workings of mathematical phenomena. Thus his connection with space-time through mathematics.

Reason for Card choice (recommended): Her morals are often considered questionable by others and she lives by her own rules for the most part. Advice she gives sometimes has seeds in self service and greed, rather than what is actually good and right for the situation. She's a terribly lusty creature, though recently her lust has been focused on only one target. When she wants something, she'll stop at nothing to get it, using anything from theft to charm to secure whatever it may be. She's often materialistic and selfish, except in the case of closer friends and is prone to addictions such as alcohol. If pushed in just the right way, she could easily be convinced to go "dark side," most likely do to a lack of "good" morals and hopeless attitude in emotionally stressful situations due to oppression in her youth. Much of what she does is simply to amuse herself, playing with others, making them blush and/or getting a rise out of them being amongst her favorite endeavors.

Class/Job/Role: Rogue and Captain of the Arcadia(IC)/Ninja(OOC)

Card: Judgement 

Reason for choice: As a former slave turned Captain of the very ship he was held upon, Gil is a perfect representation of renewal and new beginnings. Of course he also 'passed judgement' on the previous Captain with a kitchen knife at the age of nine so....hm. Gil has a strong love of the sea and sees her as a detached judge jury and executioner of all who dare to traverse her. He lives his life by her leave and believes that we each take responsibility for our actions the moment we bring them into the world and we had best be ready for the consequences. Unfortunately for most he is not all that fond of forgiveness.

Reason for Card choice (recommended): If there is one thing that Adeya is it’s determined (or stubborn, depending on how you look at it). Once she has a goal in mind she will not stop until she gets it; for instance, she has devoted her life to trying to learn everything she can about arcanima, despite having to essentially teach herself the basics. While on the one hand she’s very disciplined, she can also be rather single-minded and has a lot of trouble walking away from something she’s committed to, sometimes even if doing so would be in her best interest. In addition, while she does value honor and pride (particularly pride), she can also be ruthless towards things that stand in her way, especially if she’s convinced it’s for the greater good i.e. “the ends justify the means”.

Reason for Card choice (recommended): I think The Star card represents one of her key virtues that drives her current arc: her ability to hope and see goodness in others. This may have gotten her into more trouble than not, but she fiercely holds onto her optimism. The Strength card can also easily represent her: compassionate, gentle, and perseverance. The Temperance card could also work, because she began as an idealistic young woman, and through her past and current trials, she is learning the balance her morals with pragmatism. Perhaps after her current arc is over, she will also learn the true meaning of healing.

Reason for Card choice (recommended): On the one half, the Strength Tarot represents Edgar's difficulties with his inferior aspects. Edgar struggles daily with trying to keep his emotions in check. He has a lot of bitterness and anger that he, for the most part, keeps to himself, allowing it to build up into a fire that, when unleashed, is like the beast depicted in the Strength tarot; wild and untamed, fierce and destructive. The tale of him and Delial is the best analogue to this, one of him going from lust to obsession and vengeance, until Delial finally called him on it, telling him he was becoming like his late, madman father.

 

 

On the other half, the Strength tarot represents Edgar's inner power, his conviction and determination that ultimately have been a gateway to his worldly persona and overall intelligence. When given time to achieve inner silence, Edgar, more often than not, comes to conclusions that others cannot. With Strength comes wisdom, and with wisdom, comes the ability to endure great suffering, and torment.

 

 

The main theme of Edgar's tale is that "Bad things happen to good people", and through great suffering and torment Edgar has experienced both the base and reverse of the Strength Arcana.
