I voted B. A could be my own rogedayn female! Or close. She sounds like fun. The world needs more drinking brawling women. Don't ask me why, though. o_O B I'm not sure why I don't like her... but I don't. Wong vibe, I guess. C is simply intriguing. I like how she looks, and even if there's a lot of catgirls around, I don't think that's much of a reason not to play one. The whole face paint and unusual upbringing makes her original, too. (Not to be mean, but any "because there's too many of them" votes don't really count since the OP specifically said they don't mind Miqo'te being popular...) D I don't feel anything special about, one way or the other. I guess he's too Generic Human Adventurer, in a way? At first glance, anyway. At least I don't get that same weird vibe as B. But he'd be my second choice for a least favorite.

We do. It's linked in my opening post and is stickied straight in the Welcome section which should be where newcomers go first. Also, for me it's not so much about giving a bad impression to newcomers.. anyone who comes here and is scared away by some disagreement should question their desire to be part of any community in the first place. However, us old timers find it annoying too. Of course we can just not read those threads, but as mentioned, it's a perfectly legitimate question. What is not legitimate is some of the answers given. nd we really don't need so many of those threads. I believe Kylin's idea is better than any ban AND better than doing nothing as well.

Was wondering if you'd post here eventually Kylin. I'm not too surprised you feel as I do, and am glad you didn't do anything in the end. If the poll is any good representation of th e RPC as a whole, it seems the majority either doesn't mind enough to want any radical actions toaken or is bluntly opposed to it. I do believe however, that merging any such thread would be a good idea. It would allow people to discuss AND still prevent these threads from cluttering the forums.

Well, the reason I'm pointing this out and asking people's opinions is I feel there's no discussion at all. The pros and cons have all been laid out a dozen times already and all that's really left is "this one is best" and "no, this one is best". Those are officially accompanied with a reason why it's "best" but it still boils down to a false concept of "best" and I find that annoying. Anyways, it's exactly 50/50 so far, with a majority of neutrals.. which is exactly what I expected. No surprise for me this time!

Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Asyria replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
Azyria being a vigilante, I could name a ton of characters that are valid inspirations, but I guess mostly Cybersix (though I like to compare with Batman cause it's funnier). Much like her, Azyria isn't all that infaillible, and leads a pretty modest normal life otherwise (as opposed to that of a millionaire). Jeanette draws a bit of inspiration from Lulu in FF X. She's tall and likes to dress in black and she does black magic (but possibly arcanist if I end up liking it). My roegadyn and hyur were really made up on the fly, though you could possibly draw a parallel between Agata and She-Hulk because they're both green and strong, but that's about it, or Fiona from Shrek because they're both green-skinned with red hair but that's it. It's not like I really thought about either of them when I created her. o_o -
Perspectives of Crystalline LS - Honest Feedback Sought
Asyria replied to Eva's topic in RP Discussion
People in any given LS can have different opinions and point of views. I think only one person from the LS posting for all of them is unrealistic and restrictive. -
*Peers closely.* I think I remember that name... o_o Welcome back, anyway!
-
Welcome in, FFFF (Fellow Fan of Final Fantasy)! The pie distributor should be along shortly.
-
Welcome in! Like others have said, don't worry about being new to it, we got tons of people of all levels of experience here. Plus, there's a mentorship program thing going where you can pair up with a willing experienced RPer to help you out with things, if you like.

Perspectives of Crystalline LS - Honest Feedback Sought
Asyria replied to Eva's topic in RP Discussion
I'm popular. I'm not in Crystalline. Gasp! Seriously though, and even if I'm repeating myself here... this kinda thing is perfectly natural. I understand wanting to clarify, but I doubt it's going to change much. Those who have a neutral or good opinion of Crystalline will simply be puzzled or unaffected, while those who have a bad opinions will see this as an attempt to "defend" the LS or FC or whatever it is, therefore "proving" their opinion. Only a minority might change their mind. A little. Human nature, folks! P.S. I never understood the whole "insular is bad" thing. People have been forming guilds in mmo since it's ben possible to do so, just as people have been getting together in groups of friends since friendship was a thing. Again, human nature. We're social creatures, but we're also picky and prefer to stick with people who are like us in some ways. Why ELSE would we bother with LS in the first place? Yes, there is value in RPing outside etc. but not all the time, otherwise might as well go solo and just RP with whoever is around at any time. -
Welcome in! Interesting concept indeed. For soem reason Final Fantasy never felt like bad guy-friendly, so to speak... but it can certainly work. Somehow it reminds me of the Claymore main characters. Wonder if the cruel mistress has a deeply hidden sweet spot?

Wow, what an emotionally evocative piece. It must have been incredible to hear that everywhere. Just listening to it now gave me a sense of dread, even despair. And now I feel bad for having stopped playing before that. o_O
-
Heh, don't feel too bad about Legacy players stuck on Balmung. Some of us are rerolling on Gilg and others are simply rolling alts there so we still have choices.
-
I know and in fact said so myself.. but I also said that the results of this poll could give the moderators some insight on what people think/want. ^^ Anyways, it's definitely not as bad as it could be, I just think it's not helping anyone, polite or no. Locking could be a bit much, but seeing how many people are tired enough of it to want them locked could be enough. And hey if there's more No than Yes, I'll just leave it be and stick to encouraging newcomers to try out both. And yes, everyone has a right to their opinion, it's just the whole "jumping newcomers and pulling them to one server by saying it's better than the other" thing that I feel is bad for everyone.
-
Controversial poll, go! Since talk of a vote for a non-Legacy server, a number of threads have been popping here and there about the good and bad sides of Legacy and non-Legacy. That's pretty normal and expected. What's less normal and expected is that now that the vote is behind us and we have two official (well official for the RPC, still non official for Squeenix) servers, people still fight over which is "best". Every time a new player comes around and asks, you see people trying to pull them one side or the other. There is no flaming per se, it remains civil, but it does however paint a false impression to the newcomers with expressions such as "is clearly better", "obviously", and "it's no choice at all", just to name a few. I feel that this little infighting is harmful to our community. I also believe that those pulling others one way or the other might have no bad intentions and only seek to make their chosen server better, mind you. I also believe, people are right in claiming their right for healthy debates but I think we are past that at this point as those "debates" have come down to politely waged poaching wars. So the question is this. Considering we already have a good sticky post in the Welcome Desk to describe server options, should we "ban" further Gilgamesh vs Balmung discussion? By "ban" I mean like.. locking them with a link to the above-mentioned post whenever they happen. I put the actual question in bold, but please make sure to read the whole post before you vote. I'd ask to simply vote and not use this thread for yet another debate on Gilg vs Balm but.. yeah, right. P.S. I obviously have no authority here, but I see these debates keep showing up and more people growing tired of them, so I thought it was worth asking. The results might surprise us and give the RPC staff some insight?

Welcome in! Very cool comic there. o_o Want more! As for the Calamity... I don't know about a specific date. All I know is "5 years ago" relative to ARR time.

Perspectives of Crystalline LS - Honest Feedback Sought
Asyria replied to Eva's topic in RP Discussion
SO.. I know Crystalline exists, cause I see the name around on the forum. I never really looked into it (or any other LS aside from Silver Anvil which I was part of in 1.0) so I don't know anything about it. I wasn't aware of any rumor or anything about it either. I know there's a bunch of Crystalline members on the forums who speak their minds but looking at how I speak mine, I'm not gonna judge any FC or LS based on how outspoken its members are, or what their opinions are. o_O Also, even though some of the RPC staff is in Crystalline, the idea that it owns the RPC made me laugh. We all own the RPC. Kylin created it and is admin-ing it, because someone has to, and the moderators are moderating because someone has to. Eva, there will always be rumors about this or that, wanting to clarify things is fine, but don't take it too seriously. If people believe enough in a rumor to spread it, they're not very likely to believe whoever the rumor's about anyway. Oh and as far as being temp closed and insular goes... I remember Balthazar's Favor back then... Taking only 2-3 members at a time to make sure it's all friendly and close-knit rather than take a ton of people and nobody knows each other. Wonder what people would say about it now. -
I see two ways of going at this. 1- Free Company. Much as described, with household employees etc. 2- Linkshell. Extended family keeping in touch through linkpearls. My own elezen lady, Jeanette Lenoire, is already committed to a marvelous crafting FC on Gilgamesh but having her part of a type 2 house thing would be cool and open more RP opportunities. If you go with a Free Company though, I'll have to bow out. Of course, you could still do the extended family thing as a FC or the whole crafting thing with guards, etc. as a Linkshell, but I think a Free Company would really benefit that concept more. LS are only chat channels, after.

Forget all the arguments. Balmung and Gilgamesh are both gonna rock because we all want them both to. Yes Balmung might have more people (at launch), but Gil is gonna have more enthusiasm (because people not only want a fresh start but also a great fresh start). So it's really just a choice between established awesome and fresh awesome.

So much good stuff! And now of course I want to play Xenogears again... But I gotta agree Lren goes with everything if that's his theme. O_O And wow such an epic version too!
-
That reminds me I should do banners for mine... but I got like... 4 characters right now. T_T Anyways, it's not very hard. Just a bit of photoshopping. Like copy/paste through layers, add text box, that kinda stuff. Some people can do more though!

My Roegadyn is an overly cheerful cute and brash Sea Wolf "gladiator" (as in she fights for gil and glory, her actual class is Pugilist). *nods* Okay so she's not really -that- cheerful, she just likes to have fun. And fun often implies a brawl. Her mother was one of those very few Sea Wolves who were still going with the old Roegadyn pirate lifestyle and her father was a fisherman with more heart and bravery then most and he stole the mother's heart and took the lady pirate out of piracy and into settling down. So my Roegirl ended up raised a decent person but her mother's stories gave her a real thirst for adventure and loot. Before going out to the sea or something, though, she went to Ul'dah to master brawling. Also, I'm partial to the OP's 2nd character concept because I'll always be partial to pirates. *nods* Pirates! We put the Arr! in FF XIV ARR.
-
I'd think the refugees would have gone wherever suits them best, but I'd need a map to see what options they might have had. ^^; Even so, If we assume Ul'dah was closest and so got more than most, anyone going -there- could then have taken a ferry or airship to someplace else. In other words, I don't really know. ^^: But I'd say it mostly depends how much one is willing and able to travel.

Metrics is all 10's so it's easier to convert between mm, cm, dm, m and km... I find inches and feet and miles weird because the numbers just seem a bit random. ^^; Anyays 1" = 2.5cm so 1' = 12" = 30cm so 6' = 160cm = 1.8m As far as my characters go... My Legacy characters I really don't remember so I didn't vote. I think my Miqo'te was rather short. My Roegadyn girl is at like 80. And my Elezen I believe I set at 70 or 75.
-
Totally am! Though way back when I first roll my Keeper, they said Z's were common and I don't remember anything about super-short names.. so I ended up with Azyria Ziada. My Sea Wolf is going full viking style as Agata Blysstahlwyn (Amber, Daughter of Steel Blossom, who was evidently a warrior of some sort). My Elezen is going Frenchy-style like all Elezen as Jeanette Lenoire (french for Jeannette the black... "le" is actually a "male" pronoun cause we French-speaking folks put genders on everything, but I thought Lanoire didn't sound quite as good). My Hyur Midlander, who I still don't know for sure if I'm gonna play her is Helena Duval, which I guess is Hyur-ish enough. (Interestingly, "du val" is French for "of the dale" or "from the dale")
