Hi, Mr. Bond. I DO want you to talk, not to die. But then, I'm no doctor.

Dear Momoni First of all, welcome! I tried to PM this to you, but you have it disabled so meh. You probably don't feel very welcome so far, but you didn't post in the welcome forum either so that probably didn't help. Now, I'm going to be bluntly honest but you seem to be that way too so you can probably understand it. I mean, I was once called passionate because of posts like yours, too. o_O I still have some PM's from that time in my inbox... See, I don't think anyone is confusing you with someone else. The fact is there is only two threads you posted in. This voting one and the Gilgamesh one. I checked before I started typing to make SURE I'm not mistaken. Most times you posted, you made demands and seemed to believe people were being unfair and elitist. Whether or not your concerns are valid, the way you presented them more or less invalidated them in other people's eyes and made you look demanding and agressive. The fact that those are your only posts sp far and there was no attempt by you to say hello and participatein the community otherwise than by arguing about the whole server thing hasn't been helping either. What I'm trying to say is as far as first impressions go, yours got pretty messed up. As for what you said about breeding elitism and dissonance... that might be true in some cases, but it's also perfectly natural. No matter what, people WILL split it, form exclusive little groups, gather in cliques... it's human nature. People in general and RPers in particular are social creatures but very exclusive ones as well. In nearly 10 years of online roleplaying and another 10 of pen&paper, there isn't a single instance where I didn't witness that (I remember in my school ther was like 10 AD&D players and we managed to form separate cliques cause we didn't like each other's playstyles...) Anyways, I hope you stick around to see the RPC's good side, which should start to be more apparent once this voting business is over and things settle down a bit. o_O I'm all for continuing this conversation if you like but please enable PM's and use that if you'd like, we should probably let this thread breathe a little. Sorry Kylin, you said to move along, but I was trying to PM this and couldn't just give up after taking the time to type all this stuff. ^^; Trickery The way I see it, RPC can't be cohesive without attempting to get all members on the same server or servers and it can't do that without voting. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. ^^;

There was ample warning about the vote. And the reason why it's closed to non-RPC folks... is what Aysun said. And why would RPC members hold a vote including everyone else not in it? It's like Canadians voting for the U.S.A. president. Sure we all live in North America but it wouldn't make sense! The RPC supports its members, not the whole FF XIV community at large. Besides, everyone would rather play with their friends and acquaintances rather than with strangers, no? We could have waited to get more members, but people wanted an early vote due to phase 4 coming fast and phase 4 characters staying around for launch. As I said before though, this whole thing is just for people to know what name to click on to play with other RPers. That's really all there is to it. People love to have a say though, it's perfectly natural. I'm just weird in that I rather a server be arbitrarily chosen just so I know where to roll. o_O

Family members who went away but you stayed behind.

Hmmm.. most MMO's work that way but most MMO's also don't have an iconic adventurer party who's directly involved in everything major going on in the story. Still, everything Black said makes sense so I'm gonna abide but his opinion unless in-game stuffs says otherwise. -

I dunno, the Warriors of Light was the name given to the 4 heroes in Final Fantasy, it's a pretty iconic name for an adventuring party. Couldn't find anything about it for FF XIV though, aside from how CE owners get a Warrior of Light hat or something. I'd still say it sounds more like C, though. KKhaze'to would know his sibblings and recognize them but wouldn't know they were actually at the battle and would wonder wtf they were doing for the past 5 years. -
The reason membership was closed is to prevent people from joining just to vote and alter the votes of people who have been showing some degree of interest and participation in the community so far. I don't think votes going on elsewhere would or should affect the RPC's results. Of course, people are still free to go wherever they like so if those other folks voting end up on a different server than us, people may go there, too. Of course, we'd all like to have the most RPers together in the same spot, but at the same time, there's different communities who work in different ways and we can'T forcefully bring everyone together. ^^;

People's memories (and not just those whoever was there, but EVERYONE... this mean the innkeepers in the main towns too!) of what exactly happened and who the Warriors of Light were are all confused and hazy and, essentially, not there. I'm pretty sure everyone's memories of everything else (anything not related to Dalamud or the WoL) is alright. The Warriors of Light however are those NPC guys in the intro, not the PC's, I think. Could be wrong, but that's what I gather from what little beta I managed to play last Friday. -
1- Nope! That was for the 1.0 vote when there was a Mysidia server. 2- Maybe! 3- That's what the Wildcard vote is for.

So true! Also, yo mama so fat she looks like a Gobbue. >.> <.< Come on, you know we needed one of those! o_o

Toxicity in gaming. What I expected: But yeah, I never did raids despite all my years of mmo because I was cared of raid drama. My roomie's raiding nights were like a bad drama show with people yelling all the time (he used ventrilo on speakers, no headphones...) and on top of that he kept telling me all about it because he needed to let it out I guess. So yeah, that scared me too much and I never tried raiding. EDIT: Fixed typo Also I did try once and it was good, no bitching no complaining, even though we wipe. But that was ONE guild in ONE game and only after a LOT of hesitation. Never tried again despite it being a good experience. Didn't want to spoil it with bad ones.

Allow me a moment of srs bizness here. I've been talking about how not cool it was for newcomer to basically act like Isilme did (except more serious and less intense), so to be fair things out I have to say, don't poke too much fun at those who are worried about joining an old server. I, for one, love to beta mmo's and join at launch so I'm not behind, so I understand the concern and making fun like this might seem a little bit elitist.. though I'm pretty sure it's not meant to actually mock or offend anyone except those who are being aggressive about it, I guess :evil: . Moving along, now. ^^;

Then you didn't read it close enough. >u> Hey, gimme a chance, english is 2nd language, I don't catch all the subtlez all the time! (which also means you shouldn't look for any subtlez in my post cause there rarely ever is any o_o). Also I misread that all-important second-to-last one. Gotta admit, though... Onion Helms are overpowered.

I'm not European but I'm off work for several months still I think so my afternoons (your evenings) are still free for a while.

So, I read everything and not sure if troll, joking, or actually serious. o_o

Post all sorts of FF-related songs! Surely you guys know Hyadain? (ironically, that's an ice spell in Dai No Daiboken, a manga based on Dragon Warrior games... but he does FF songs ) ze_L_ICcDQI C8vz186pjY0 Bw9nhpZc2x8 Wish that last one was english subbed. O_O

You know I might just roll my roegirladyn alt in that secondary server, just to have different people to play with. ^^
-
Well, there's trolls and there's worried people... Like I said I understand the feeling on both sides, having been on both sides, and like I said elsewhere, the whole higher level people being around is a legitimate worry... but it would become a legitimate worry pretty fast on a new server as well. Besides, a server with older characters around isn't all bad. It means the lower level areas will be less overcrowded. What's important however is to remain friendly. Heh, that's kinda funny coming from me, I used to pick fights a lot on forum and in chat... because I felt very strongly about the community AND because I of RL issues bothering me more than I was willing to admit. Things change, though!

All I know is elezen of both subraces have Frenchesque names, but I don't know about their surnames. Probably Frenchesque too?
-
So I tried to be nice and welcoming but perhaps being blunt is what is needed to make things clear. I see people coming here, making a few agressive posts and passing judgements without even trying to be friendly and say hello. If I join a comunity, I come in with a friendly smile and try to fit in, not with weapons in hand demanding people bend over for me. Please folks, for the love of Moogles everywhere, TRY to understand that you're joining a COMMUNITY, and act like such.

Omg I remember the whole Balthier server thing! And of course, my counter! And wow, the data centers are in MONTREAL? O_O That's just over the bridge from where I live. I'm gonna go invade and take over all the servers. ^^ In all seriousness now, we've been seeing a lot of worried newcomers, lately... While I understand how you all feel, I would like to remind everyone that the RPC is for ALL RPers on ALL servers! Like Kylin said somewhere, the ONLY reason we're even voting is that the big majority of RPers prefer having a server where (labeled on not) where we can congregate, as it makes it easier for us to find RP. It's what people want! The primary server (Balmung, as voted in 1.0) and secondary server (as being voted on now) are just a matter of telling people where there are the most RPers, to our knowledge, to those who care about this (people ask all the time). For obvious reasons, and as mentioned somewhere by Kylin, this forum isn't gonna have a subforum for every single server, only for those with a good amount of RPC members (so Balmung and whatever will win this vote, I guess). Even if your server doesn't have it's own subforum, the RPC will still support you! Just be aware that if there isn't a subforum for it, it means there was never enough RPC members playing there to warrant one so the usefulness of said support might be limited... but that's a matter of circumstances, not choice.

Omg there we go with the server vote pics again! Oh the memories...
-
That reminds me... Back in 1.0 there was those "streets" or "halls" or whatever for the market where we put our retainers and we could just leave them in the open or rent an actual stall, which I thought was pretty cool. I read something about there being an Auction House though. So do we still get to set up shop in places or anything?
-
Just to clarify... People who plan on going to Balmung shouldn't vote on this right?
