I'm all for having a hard time and incuding conflicts in stories (after all there's no heroes without conflicts!) but there's a limit to how much drama I can take. I've had friends whose characters had it hard and mine and others were helping them out... and things were starting to get better... but instead of giving everyone a break and leaving room for someone else to have some hardships, they just went batshit crazy with the horribles. I was like... nope. I'm out of this one. Then I rolled a new character. (this was on a nwn PW server, not in a mmo, so the playerbase was pretty damn limited) So, no happy ending is one thing... but never having any happy at all is just... not my thing.

Pretty sure everyone will respect whatever you decide, just as long as you clarify in advance. ^^ Only time I could see people being offended would be doing the run Ic and then later be told, after having RPed accordingly, that it wasn't supposed to be IC, so everything is now messed up! But that's easily avoided.

My Keeper Miqo'te lives in Ul'dah so she's isn't very tribal, especially when most other Miqo'te there are Seekers and it's such a big city with many different races present. On the other hand, she manages her business closely with her sister as a business partner so you could say she still has some tribal roots in that her family is very important to her. As others said, don't confuse tribal with savage, though!

Ok some tropes for Azyria... Cat Girl >.> Chaotic Good Type 4. She's a vigilante, after all! Action Girl duh Faux Action Girl Before she went vigilante, she got into a few scrapes and managed very well, which is part of where the whole vigilante idea came from. However, since putting on her mask and haunting the roofs of Ul'dah, she's been pretending in order to maintain her cover... Let's Get Dangerous could happen if civilian Azyria is caught in a bad situation and has no choice but to fight to the best of her abilities. Waif Fu with a spear Blades On A Stick are her Weapons Of Choice Heroic Resolve she got it Cool Mask for serious You Gotta Have Blue Hair she got that too And some for Agata... Destructive Saviour She'll put that rampaging monster down, but she'll rampage just as much as it would while doing so. >.> Boisterous Bruiser cause pirate-ish Roegadyn pugilist Amazonian Beauty all female Roegadyn should get this one, at least if they're fighter types Action Girl duh Lightning Bruiser Fast, strong AND tough. Her weakness is she's neither particularly smart or careful... Glory Seeker Blood Knight FF = Fighting Fun More another time, I guess! It's not about reducing a character to them, it's about having fun associating them to characters! That and it can help define a character and be a RP aid, just like archetypes, definining characteristics, and keywords in pen&paper RPGs. You don't have to participate if you don't like it, anyway. ^^:

So, Eva said we could do a thread trope but wouldn't take responsibility for wasting people's time... I'm totally willing to take responsibility for making fellow RPers waste hours and hours on this! On a more serious note, hunting for Tropes can actually help flesh out a character and can be a good RP aid. I'll do mine later.

RP is definitely supposed to be fun! The thing is that there are many ways to RP and many definitions of what RP is, and all those clashing views is what can make things difficult and why we can't always love each other and have fun. It's like.. if we both like sports but I hate football and love hockey and you hate hockey and love football.. we definitely can't have fun together then. ^^: What we CAN do however is be nice to each other, accept we have different interests and coexist. Now, back to RP. Let's take, for example, Tavern RP. Some love it, some hate it... Sure it's RP anyway, but it's not fun for everyone! We're all RPers but we're also all individuals and we need to accept that we're different from one another as well as similar. ^^

Oooooohhhhh okay, my bad. ^^; I thought you meant EU players would want a separate server for community reasons and that's contrary to what I've seen. But you were replying to my I'm-not-sure-why! Got it now. ^^ Heh, I remember the days of mmo's being sold in Us and EU versions and being forcefully split between the two and people on both sides raging about it.

I dunno about that, I've seen the lag issue come up all the time.. Lag is in fact the reason why we even have a 2nd data center now.

Folks are familiar with it from the events and where people went to mess around. Thing is Niklaus, no one will ever agree on one secondary server. Sadly, you will see probably 3 RP communities sprout up by the time its said and done, unless SE does a sudden turn about and even then, you will still have a mess. Everyone's frustrated, tired of the subject, I know from my viewpoint I went to Gilgamesh to check it out. If Balmung gets locked or full, then it's where a bunch of us will go. In the end, 2 months left and we may see more information that affects everyone. Till then, I guess its Gilga, Behemoth, Balmung and whatever EU folks decide. EU really don't need pick a server of their own since all the non-Japan servers are (stupidly enough) physically in Montreal anyway. It would only split the community further and people would have the same lag. I'm not sure why they even have EU-recommended servers when there's only one data center outside of Japan (better than none, but still).

Hi Heather! I'm an altaholic too! But with the whole you-can-level-all-the-jobs thing FF XIV has going on, it took me forever to roll a 2nd character. Also, I'm gonna have a pugilist pirate! Well not so much pirate because priacy is not all that cool these days, but still... perhaps privateer with a letter of marque from Limsa. That's all after she gets fame and fortune though.

You won't be exactly kicked off, it's just that all our characters will disappear. Except the Legacy ones.

Don't wanna burst the party ballons but, ironically, I don't think demonadrastos has any intention of participating here, having mentionned in the vote thread on the beta forum that there's no point in making an account here just to be able to vote and never participate. >.> Not that I'm spying but the name was hard to miss.

This reminds me of the SWTOR-RP main server vote. See, SWTOR had a pre-launch Guild thing going on. Guilds would be arbitrarily assigned to random servers of the selected type (RP-PvE, RP-PvP, PvE, or PvP) but there was a trick to it. Each guild could select one allied guild and one enemy guild, so many guilds that were outside of the SWTOR-RP community made a chain of guilds linked by being allies or enemies as a way to select their own main server. Meanwhile, and unaware, SWTOR-RP had all the guild leaders decide on how to select the community's main server and they decided it would be a vote. So people voted... and it turned out that the winning server was different than the one the Chained RP Guilds all ended up on! So naturally, some folks from the Chained RP Guilds came over and tried to "convince" the SWTOR-RP community to join their server and ignore their vote. And naturally, the SWTOR-RP folks said no way, we voted, we'll go where people voted to go. And then, as the imperials say sith happened. Drama! Hate mail! Threats and insults! Oh the humanity!

True story... I think it was the Goons, was it? Or some other group? Dunno about contingency... I know in the unlikely case a server is labelled RP, it becomes the serveur de choix but I don't think we have other plans?
