Good suggestion. I've done this for a while, more or less, and am just now ready to get back into it.

Idea: Rent the place! Easy way to ICly explain why different people claim it at different time! Plus, if conflict arise, everyone can take it IC and work something out IC. (owner derped and rented it to different people at the same time?)

Nel Celestine, I choose you! *tosses Miqo'teball*

Well they've known what Dungeons and Dragons (lol I typoed Dragnos ) is for a long time, at any rate.. Lodoss War was based on it. And .hack is all about RPing in a mmo, in a way.

Yay Canadialand!

Claiming land can be a source of big problems and drama in the worst case and a source of great fun and good RP in the best case. I would personally avoid it, but if you feel the benefits are worth the risks, go ahead.

Funny thing, I RPed Azyria has having a small smithy business with her sister in 1.0 in Ul'dah. I'm thinking the store would have survived all this time. Possibly even thrived what with the need for weapons and armors growing with the troubles about the war and Dalamud etc, though it would have remained a small business. Used to be part of the Silver Anvil, too. Will again if the planets and stars align properly, etc.

I've seen people who seriously believed RP meant Raid Progression... but I'm pretty sure YoshiP knows what RolePlaying is. Japan is not -that- different from America or Europe, after all.

The only thing I can say is that the whole instant travel thing has a little quirk to it that means it only works for people who travel a lot anyway. You can only instantly travel to an aetherite you've attuned with, meaning you must have travelled there before, be it on foot, chocobo, carriage or boat! So anyone who doesn't travel a lot (aka, most of the non-player population) would probably be pretty heavily into their culture.

I'm pretty sure I read that phase 4 is a new start. Did that change?

I believe you'll simply end up with two collector's copies of the game! o_O Better contact Squeenix, preferably on phone if you don't want to exchange emails for days. They'll be able to answer your questions better than any of us AND might be able to help you fix whatever might need fixing.

Good stuff there!

Characters:Azyria Ziada aka Blue Moon, Agata Blysstahlwyn (Amber, daughter of Steel Blossom), Jeanette Lenoire, and Helena Duval Primary character:Varies Linkshells: I'm all alone Primary RP linkshell: Aloneeeeee II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I have no idea. Depends how easily I can get back into it! Views on RP combat and injuries: I'm usually very wary of RP fighting. First, it takes a very long time to get through. Second, there's always a risk of power/meta/whatevergaming. I prefer PvP when available but when it's not, I'll want to take level etc. into account. I'm equal parts a gamer and a roleplayer and I firmly believe a character's stats are there to definie what a character can and cannot do. Just like pen&paper roleplaying, really. As far as injuries go, that's for each player to decide. I usually won't go with permanent injuries to my characters that would limit what I can do with my character in other RP, unless I feel like it. Besides, healing magic is there for a reason! Views on IC romance: This can be a whole lot of fun, but it carries the risk of the RP partner vanishing. To avoid this, RPing a character who's romantically involved and having their lover be an imaginary NPC can also be fun, but not quite as entertaining. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Pretty much the same as above! I remember playing Azyria's retainer as her sister (they worked a smithy together, she sold the goods Azyria made!) but having a PC relative is fun too. I've done it in other games, Views on lore: Lore is good, lore is gold. Bending lore is for the bold. What that means is Lore is important, but it can be bent to a degree. Tricky thing, though. Lore is important because it provides us all with something we can all relate to. It's the glue that binds us all together in RP. Without lore, we'd all be making stuff up and one RPer's ideas would clash with another's and it would be total chaos. However, one can bend the lore to fits one's RP. It's risky and tricky, but a bold RPer can get away with it as long as it doesn't directly clash with established Lore (that would be breaking, not bending). Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Not sure what to say... Say is normal speach, yell seems like more of a general map chat since it reaches irrealistically far for yelling and linkshell chat.. well that's all explained in the Lore. A linkshell is essentially a bunch of telepathy-enabling (or is it actually voiced?) linkpearls linked together, unless that changed? III. Other Info Country: Canada, eh Timezone: Eastern Contact info: PM here [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]

To be fair, the lady getting a job would likely help alleviate her being bored with less of a need for boyfriend attention. However, I'm gonna agree with Jonexe. MMO-overdose is pretty common. I will add that you should never play if you're not having fun (unless the alternative is just staring at the wall), so if you're not having fun with FF XIV, it's better to put it aside now during beta than after you paid for it and it's live.

Woaaaaa that's awesome! So you can basically spend the whole day crafting and getting rich if you want?
-
I played 1.0 and when I logged on my Miqo'te, I had the regular intro. O_O
-
At this time, it's kind of unimportant, since we only get to play on weekends... Phase 4 will set the standards, I guess. Also, there's a vote tomorrow for secondary RP server.
-
My roegirladyn alt will be a pugilist! Piracy is bad, but she still has that love of fighting and aventure from her pirate ancestors so she'll have travelled to Ul'dah for some good brawling fun.
-
Okay so my preexisting characters are indeed on Balmung now! And I rolled one on Gilgamesh. But now I won't get online again until Sunday >.>
-
I'm in a starting city =/= city I want to be in situation, myself... I want my keeper lancer in Ul'dah and my roegadyn pugilist in Limsa... T_T
-
Yep seems like Gilgamesh is the Phase 3 server... us old timers are on Balmung (YES, finally I'm in! Except I move tomorrow so right this moment is the only time I can play this weekend... ) and come launch I understand it will be Balmung and... whatever people vote on.

Oh my, you'd be surprised... ^^; I personally like for my character to be as close as possible to the one I went through so much trouble to get right in the creator, (and the whole what-you-see-is-what-you-get from miniature wargaming helps foster this) but at some point, imagination has to kick in. It's like voices. That is SO hard to describe and I have yet to play single mmo (with voices) where I feel the character's voice is right. Heck, even Neverwinter Nights 2 gave me trouble and they had like 2 dozen options.

I dunno about now but back in 1.0 they were actually pretty different! Seekers had shorter tails I think... and they had different colors to pick from with Seekers having brighter and Keepers darker colors, unsurprisingly. Whatever flies your airship though!

Mine still say Besaid o_o
