  1. Answers! (Just keep in mind, when it comes to RP, there's no wrong answer, just opinions... but when opinions are shared by the majority, it then becomes convention. ^^: ) 1- Do whatever is most fun. If forgetting IC would lead to fun RP, do that. If forgetting would get in the way of RP, then ask. I don't think there's any convention about this... Though some strict pen&paper dungeon masters from the 80's might disagree... "If you forgot then your character forgot!" 2- Whatever! It's different for each person, really. Some will say focus on background, as the past determines the present... but I prefer to focus on the mechanical side first, decide what I want to play, then I build the background to explain how the character got there. You have to find what's most natural to you. 3- It's probably easier to not explain anything... but it's not as much fun and doesn't feel as fulfilling as having a story to tell, I think. Depends on what you enjoy and what's more important to you. To tell stories or to get into the action? 4- I do believe bells is hours yes... And I remember malms are a unit of distance. There might be a lexicon somewhere... maybe on the Lodestone? I dunno. o_o Need to look into that myself. 5- I try to avoid ever giving any specific time, instead using terms like "tomorrow evening" because in-game time and RL time don't change at the same speed, plus the player I'm RPing with might be in a different timezone! If there is a Server Time, I use that. Of course if I have to see something like "meet back here in two hours" then yes I can just call them bells instead. 6- What do you mean? 7- Unless your character is really harsh, I'd say it's not necessary. If you're not sure, you can always tell them, if only for your own sake. 8- Voice chat? Who he hell voice-RP's? o_o No it's absolutely not necessary. Now some guilds in some mmo's rquire it for raids or pvp and I can understand it, but even for those, I don,t use it and it's never hindered me. 9- I always do the emote. Whether or not I also give the money is something I check OOC with the player. 10- Chocolate. Some people prefer to always walk when seeking RP, as an indicator of that, but walking is slow so I always run unless I'm RPing at the time. ^^;
  2. Yep she is! It's that one wooden mask you could craft early in the game. If you give me your email, I can send the pic. ^^ Look at the wiki once it's linked in my sig.
  3. Hi fellow FFT person and welcome back to you too! And yes, thanks for the email, good point. I wouldn't be here if not for them. I hope there's only one RP server so we don't have to pick one, last time was a bit of a mess, though we also had fun moments (like when we all started doing "vote for X server" posters).
  4. Well it -is- headlines.. but in artistic form? I was gonna edit my above post to say I like it because I happen to be one who doesn't go much on Lodestone and such, so it's an easy source of information for me. ^^ Also, it's now midnight EST and therefore Feb 3rd. I caught up!
  5. It's still Feb 2nd here... you're from the future! Also, 8bit Theatre got me used to calling FF I characters by their class names, so can't help you there... though Fighter having red hair makes me think of Renaise and I'm sure we got a white-haired Elezen somewhere who could lend his name to Red Mage. *nods* I also want to say that I tend to hire characters representing my friends in FF Tactics, just because I can give them the right zodiac sign. I'm that bad. ^^:
  6. Flowers everywhere! Seriously, I,m loving this, it's so bright and colorful.
  7. Don't leave me out! I have a full size black&white pic I can send over, or you can just go with my avatar pic since you mentioned just doing heads anyway. ^^
  8. Yep first is French. And... I didn't know but I expected it! o_o I mean they've been pretty fair with the playerbase so far, what with letting people play for free for a while after admitting they messed up so I would have been pretty surprised if they didn't respect CE buyers.
  9. *waves* Everyone remembers the avatar more. Is Noelle even still around much? And yeah I've seen Renaise in Secret World (of course as a Templar, they're red). He's even online on the TSW-RP site as I type this.
  10. OMG, I just realized who you are after looking at old PM's. Hi! And I do remember you too Tadir, Eva and Avelyne! Thanks! I also remember Renaise, who I've spotted in a couple other mmo's since. And... I still have that Hiname missing milk carton pic I made back then when she vanished... and the silly pic I made to entice people to vote for the Mysidia server... Oh the memories!
  11. Good to see some other old names. ^^
  12. I'm not makin plans just yet, I'll try to get into beta first and what's changed and if I want to start paying for this again. I'm playing a few games already but I got collector's FF XIV back then and... then... *sniff* So if it proves worthy, then I'll make plans! I only had two characters though so probly gonna keep them. Keeping my blue-haired Miqo'te for sure anyway. She was my trademark. But I don't know -what- I'll do with her.
  13. Hi! <---- Look here! Recognize that?
  14. Heya So I played the game when it came out, was very much into it, and then.... yeah. ARR looks promising though and I applied for beta, so I thought I'd poke my head back in here as well. EDIT (For those who don't know/remember me) Hi! I'm Asyria and my main is/was Azyria, a blue-haired Miqo'te masked vigilante. Original character story here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=610 --MMORPG background Oh my.. I've played most sub-based MMO's except the first handful like Everquest, Ultima Online and DAOC, I missed those. Started with WoW and went on to try out or beta test well over a dozen titles. --RP experience Make-believe aside, I believe I started rleplaying at age 13 in pen&paper... then there were LARPS and finally online RP. I am very experienced but it's been mostly casual, I'm not one to write novels (I tried though, in my first language, but English is my 2nd, which makes it even harder ^^; ). --Character ideas/info See above link! --How did you learn about the coalition? Back before the first version of the game came out, I googled for FF XIV RP. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? I used to say Heavy or Med-Heavy but I don't care about those RP categories anymore since it means different things to different people. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I'm French Canadian and I love macaronis. o_o For the Emperor!
  15. It is in fact very much on topic, since the botch or HQ seems to be considered scams. I strongly disagree with that and am concerned as a crafter that someone would be willing to put my name on a scammer list due to different personal opinions. However, I'll simply avoid trading anything else than gil with anyone I don't feel I can trust. Scamming goes both ways, and so does slandering.
  16. And that's why I'm against Scammer lists. Because it's a matter of personal opinion. Also, I didn't "ignore" anything but most of you seem to "ignore" what I've been saying.
  17. It all goes down to two situations... And I'm not sure which you're all talking about but I think you all misunderstood what I said. Situation A: Crafter's mats. The buyer pays gil. The crafter makes the item. If the item IS better then itis WORTH more. Simple, reasonable, logical. Calling it a scam is BS. As I said above however, an honorable crafter will offer the HQ item for a higher price AND offer to make another non-HQ item at the agreed price. If they're out of mats, tough luck... Keep in mind the Crafter gains nothing if they don't make the sale due to the item becoming too expensive. And if they do make the sale, then the buuyer paid more but also GOT more. Advice: If you want to avoid surprises, ask the crafter to not make it HQ (spamming rapid will avoid it). Situation B: Buyer's mats. The buyer pays by providing the mats (usually +tip). The crafter makes the item. - If the item is HQ, too bad for the crafter. He can make gil off his own stuff, but this item doesn't belong to him since the materials didn't. - If the crafter fails, too bad for the buyer. The crafter gains nothing by failing voluntarily since the mats are spent, so calling it a scam is BS. Advice: give the Tip once the item is completed. It seems to me like you're disagreeing with what I said about Situation A when you have Situation B in mind.
  18. This will always happen. As I crafter, what I do is I make the time first, then exchange it for payment. I generally only take mats from friends to make stuff with, not strangers, because with friends, if I fail, we can always get to an arrangement. I only stuff I already made or know without a doubt I can make for strangers. Now the HQ item issue... there is nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with asking a significantly higher price. It IS significantly better and so is worth more. No scam there. However! The crafter, in all fairness, should always offer the option of making another item, without getting that Quality too high (Rapid spam) and sell it at the originally agreed price. As for a scammer list... Meh, go for it if you want. I personally don't care. Half of it would end up being slander and rumors sooner or later. I prefer to simply trade completed items for payment in one trade, it's pretty scam-proof. If I am to give mats for someone to craft something with, I'll seek friends/shell-mates.
  19. Awww dammit, forgot it was tonight... got something planned IRL.
  20. Can't really help you on the motivation side.. I have mine but that doesn't mean it will work for you. I just enjoy myself. About crafting though.. your understanding seems a bit messed up. ^^; Not only you can, but you should do crafting leves right from the moment you got a crafting tool. They provide the mats for it (sometimes, you get them right awat, but some time you must travel and get them from the NPC who wants the stuff), and the reward you with more mats most of the time. As for getting gold however, I have two advices. First, do leves. As soon as you feel ready, try moving to a higher level camp to do the leves there. Big gil income. Second, sell stuff. Shards and crystals are always in high demand. Even if you don't craft, have a look at crafting recipes to know who needs what, do some shopping and see what is worth what. 300 a shard is way above what it usually sells for and moko grass seems very very common. If you want to sell fire shards, stick around smiths and offer them at 100g a piece, they should vanish very fast. If you really want to sell shards though, go for wind shards. Everyone loves wind shards.
  21. This sounds like a pretty safe method yes. Personally, I'm more of a risk-taker and I don't like the idea of Waiting until its white since the more you wait the more durability you lose.
  22. So, some of you might have noticed that crafting is HARD, especially once you reach around Rank 10+ and you try some of the recipes that you -should- be able to do. thing is, I'm under the impression that the more you rank up, the more you need those up-to-date tool and crafting clothes to compensate for the difficulty of recipes (and don't forget that facilities buff!). Good tools are expensive however, especially now when only the most devoted players can make them. Right now, a Rank 12 Blacksmith hammer costs between 60k and 80k at least. I had a talk with Soi Fon, one of the more advanced (and certainly one of the more social) crafters on Besaid and I asked them the question that's been boggling me for some time: since all the crafters require something more advanced in order to craft tools, how did the first one to get far enough to do it managed to do it? Soi Fon's answer was : lots of patience. So there you have it. Either spill the gil and equip yourselves, or be prepared to rank up slowly with leves and lower crafting recipes until you can tackle the harder ones without those hard-to-get tools and eventually you will succeed. Also keep in mind that, as time goes, more and more people will be able to make those tools, the Offer will get closer and closer to meeting the Demand, and prices will simply have to lower. Right now, things are expensive only because they are rare.
