  1. Quests There's the Storyline quests, which you have every 10 levels. There's Guildleves which you can do 8 of every 48 hours. When done, you go exchange then, and you are able to exchange up to 4 that you've done for a single new one with improved reward. All guildleves are interchangeable like that. You can switch from battle leves to field leves, and the crafting leves are another story, as those are Local Guildleves, while the other types are Regional Guildleves. Guildleves are always found at the Inn, it seems. Crafting The Beta sites has some basic recipes listed in the Player Guide. Other than that, the players are expected to find out by themselves by trial and error what works and what doesn't, making crafting significantly harder but also significantly more rewarding (being the first crafter to figure out how to create The Mighty Sword of Pwning would be awesome, I suspect). Some Crafting Databases are linked here: http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1085 Armor Shops I don't remember any from Closed Beta, they might have added some in Open but I only been in Ul'dah so far in Open and I gave the appropriate information in this thread: http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1339 Other than that, try the Market Wards.
  2. You don't join them.. you.. err... do quests for them.. I think.. and you earn guild Marks.. with which you buy stuff exclusive to their guild. Sorry, I don't really know the details, as I haven't seen any of those guild quests or guild marks so far. o_O It's all still very mysterious to me.
  3. "NEEEEERRRRRRRRDS!!" That's what I mean.^^;
  4. Ul'dah Ruby Road Exchange: Even MORE food, but also armors of various sorts, gladius and axe (and food), and leatherworker materials.
  5. The router port forwarding thing worked like MAGIC!
  6. You could always ask those folks who actually interviewed SE representatives? ^^
  7. I'm simply sick of the complaints and no, they are not always constructive. Some are, perhaps more of them on the RPC forums than in other places, but I simply don't see it as constructive when it's performance-related and we all knew beforehand that the game would be very demanding. While I do feel some regret in that my tone might be perceived as aggressive, I feel the same aggression coming from people who seem to expel their frustrations through negative criticism so I can't honestly say I'm sorry for taking the same tone. What my honesty allows me to do however is apologizing for said tone making my posts not so enjoyable to read. So, I'm sorry. I hope however that people would realize that incessant whining is also very much not enjoyable to read. And please don't give me the "you don't have to read it" argument, because I do have to read it in order to realize what it's about. Of course the thread title might have given a hint, but do impressions have to be negative? No, they do not. In fact I'm happy to have seen a lot of positive comments on the RPC forums in general, but when the negativity trickles in, it makes me want to scream. Really, if it is bad enough that you only have negative comments, don't play it. I stopped playing WoW for that reason. Loved it for a while, then I realized I had more negative stuff than positive stuff to say about it, so I quit.
  8. We've certainly nothing to lose by it. Perhaps we should form a petition. Petitions usually seem a bit torch and pitchforky... perhaps a community representative and representative of this forum could contact them on our behest? I feel that this last suggestion would be taken more seriously. A representative of the RPC talking to a representative is SE... just seems fitting.
  9. Starting characters are just that: starting characters. It's sad for those of you who want to RP the big veterans and heroes, but all you have to do is take a step back, and take the first few levels as your character's beginning. This, to me, is also part of respecting the lore. Nobody starts as The Guy who's Gonna Save The World. We all start as a fresh adventurer in a world FULL of adventurers, some of them pretty bad-ass, but most being nubcakes. That certainly justify the NPC's attitude toward "yet another adventurer" and it also justifies the number of player characters in the world. Among all the mmorpg's I played, FF XIV is among those who most believably introduce new characters into the world, with consideration given to the number of characters running around. The worse I played had to be AoC. I'm split about Fallen Earth... they get you to be THE clone who blew up the Dam, which is stupid since everyone goes through that... but afterwards, you're a clone among many, which makes immersion pretty easy. It's like they went from the worse to the best in 15 minutes of play. As for the recent computers running the game on medium setting at best and it being ugly... what? I run it on medium and it's absolutely gorgeous. Better than any mmo I've seen. We must not have the same perception of beauty. More important than opinions however is the fact that SE created a Next Generation game and in that, they most certainly have been successful. Either way, A positive review was asked for, I gave one. Why bring it down? Like we needed more whining. >.>
  10. I rather it be tied to demons and witchraft than to geeks and nerds. I remember back in highschool there was a handful of guys who were playing some D&D in a classroom during lunchtime... at some point, hundreds of skaters and other stupid kids decided it was "gay" or some other brainless idea, and wanted to gank them. >.> There were 6 police cars in the schoolyard, as the police station was barely a minute away and the rumors has spread about the whole thing.
  11. Well, they said it, if they are going to do anything at all, they need to know what our needs are... Perhaps the RPC should contact SE directly in light of this interview?
  12. My favorite is definitely Limsa. "A sight for me sore eyes!" >.> It really is beautiful and it has PIRATES! However organized mafia-type crime fits a lot more a vigilante concept than a bunch of pirates fighting each other with the musketeer knights trying to keep the peace in between. Then again, it depends whether I go more batman or more zorro. >.> Dammit, now I'm unsure again! Help!
  13. Woot, Quebec! I live in one of MANY Saint-SomeGuyOrGirl type towns. We apparently had a lot of saints founding villages back in the days. o_O
  14. Just so you know, the storyline quests continue every 10 ranks (1, 10, 20, etc.). So, yes, it most certainly doesn't end. Aha! That's good to know! My answers to your sister, with all due respect. 1 and 4: Learn and adapt. I come from WoW and it took me a mere 2 days to find myself perfectly comfortable with the default settings, using keyboard alone. They're not working on mouse, because the mouse is kinda useless. Every hardcore mmo player will tell you that. I used to hear it all the time in WoW and I always stubbornly stuck to using the mouse... In FF XIV, I barely spare it a glance. 2- Upgrade your computer, that's all there is to it, really. You can't blame the game for being slow if your specs do not match up to the recommend ones. 3- Yes, yes it is. We all agree, here. 5- That was a mistake on their part. We all agree again. They opened the floodgates and weren't prepared for it. This doesn't actually say anything about release, though, as they are pretty quick in putting more servers online. 6- If you have a good enough computer, the game plays as good as you can hope for, even better considering that "it's only beta" and all that stuff. I barely find any lag, except in the most populated area, but this is something that happens even in mmorpgs that have had years or refining. The graphics are beautiful, the details are breathtaking, you can even see every piece of equipment on your character, down to jewelry! The UI is extremely simple and easy to navigate, it's just -different- than what us westerners are used to and some people have this retarded idea that different makes bad. It's as simple as hitting the Home key to call the menu, and navigate it with the arrow keys. Combat is smooth, no boring auto-attack, leaving the player fully in control of the action, and it's just the right pace. No button-mashing and no crawling either, like we seen in early videos that leaked on youtube. The only thing to slow you down in a little is a Stamina gauge but it fills rather fast. Gathering and Crafting all are their own mini-games, which is much enjoyable and a lot less boring than just clicking and waiting forever for that progression bar to move (ugh!), again putting the player in control and involved. All in all, the immersion is fantastic and the only time you're not actively doing anything is when you autorun or read stuff. I should add that if you've never seen this kind of actually positive review, you probably spent a LOT of time on those websites I tend to avoid like the plague because they are so full of negativity. 7. I assume you meant FF XI, not IX? In that case, if you think it needs fixed, perhaps it was simply not your kind of game. I understand, it didn't seem to be mine either, so I didn't play it. Simple as that.
  15. I see a Sailor Moon! And other great pics, one of which looks particularly creepy!
  16. Holy Moogle, that is nice! So now some big SE heads are aware of our community, of our choice of server and think the idea of putting a RP label on Besaid could be a good idea! Here's to hoping they remember to tell their pals at SE about it.
  17. I was definitely told there's a key you can hit to switch at the time of casting. I just can't for the life of me remember which one, and I don't play caster much, so I can't really help more than that. I know Stoneskin has a ridiculous AoE range, though. Cast it near an aetheryte in a camp, where 3 dozen people are hanging around and easily half of them will get the buff.
  18. My own thoughts have all been expressed here. One thing I'd add is that I get that feeling that SE, much unlike most companies these days, do not want to do everything possible to make the game easier for us. For the japanese in general, a game -should- be challenging, or at least that's what I perceive from them. Remember back when we got the first final Fantasy games over in America? How ridiculously easy and simple Final Fantasy II US was compared to Final Fantasy IV? A lot of gamers these days simply can't stomach anything more complicated than mashing their iwin key or, for the more hardcore gamers, looking on the interwebs for the best strategy and applying it blindly. I'm pretty happy with how things are right now. As for content, I get the feeling it's simply not there because it's beta. Either that, or we'll just have to look for quests, by talking to NPC's. Quest givers don't have big exclamation points over their heads, so I get the feeling it's a matter of looking around and talking to people. Just look at how the first storyline quest "ends". I only completed the one form Limsa Lominsa so far but it definitely doesn't "end". There is SO much mysteries yet unsolved once you've done the chain, it's simply impossible that there isn't anything else, later.
  19. Yeah that's why I didn't turn them off though I was very tempted to. ^^;
