There are already a few Guts-esque RPers on the server, we didn't need DRK to enable that.

Yeesh Leanne, take it easy. This now makes three bears I have to wrestle into submission before I can properly ask for her hand... -
balmung Drunken Miqo'te Vagrant in Desperate Need of Coin!
Edda replied to S'hai Nunh's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm pretty interested in this. Edda might have need of some more... subtle work, as it were. Could potentially have much more than 70k to offer as well, depending on how things go. -
I'd like for Benediction to like actually work more than 30% of the time, that would be nice.

So... her sister then? Crofte would probably be a therapist. She has a sister? Look buddy I don't watch MTV. But yeah sure. Any rich heiress (Kim Karshasibibble) - just no sex tapes.

Paris Hilton, only without the sex tape.

[SPOILERS not hidden in SPOILERS] 2.55 Before the Fall Part 2
Edda replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Honestly I was half-hoping that during that little council meeting Merlwyb was just going to whip her gun out and shoot him in the face for acting like such a whiny little ass. If any one character deserves to get their shit slapped in the MSQ, it's him. -
Localizing dialogue more naturally into English makes sense, and is quite necessary. Translations of Japanese that are too literal tend to sound awkward as all hell, so it doesn't bother me in most quests where the dialogue is vastly different from the text, but the point is still there. Keeper of the Lake was an interesting take, although from my point of view a bit overboard. It's one thing to give him character and make him sound ancient and majestic, but I think the localization went too far, and ended up muddling the significance of the scene by making him sound like an overly verbose, confusing asshole. HOWEVER. However. Differences in dialogue, however much or little is one thing on its own, and should be expected. Changing a scene, and the complete presentation of a character is another. There is literally no excuse for this. It's not something you can argue either by saying "well, characters like this tend not to exist in Western stuff!" or "it would be hard to localize!" because those are both retarded arguments. Observe. Haurchefant in English: aVlPvBW0UJ8 Haurchefant in Japanese: Jb716z1_8fk No idea what this is like in French or German, though I imagine it's closer to English. I feel bad for the people who watched in English, because they completely missed the presentation of what his character is clearly meant to be. Oh well.

I listen to it in Japanese just to see how different the text dialogue is from the actual spoken dialogue, and holy fuck is there an intense difference most of the time. THAT KEEPER OF THE LAKE DIALOGUE THOUGH.

My personal experiences. -
For instances like those, you'll be surprised at how many will jump to your aid if you simply say: "Free Soldiery." Throw that up in PF and all the spring water huntin' Zodiac Brave wannabes will come out of the woodwork.

How do you handle RP when it takes a bad direction?
Edda replied to Renata Turner's topic in RP Discussion
I usually just nope the fuck out of it any way I can IC, and then whisper the person and tell them to eat a dick. Bad example probably, but hey. Balmung's a big server, and chances are if they've been a creep to you, other people have had a similar experience. People like that will eventually run out of people to creep on, or get bored at some point. You've got nothing to lose. -
The How To Help Newbie RPers In Making Connections Forum
Edda replied to Tiergan's topic in RP Discussion
"Dangerous" in what way? Do you mean real harm is being inflicted upon the people who are at the brunt of these false promises? Dangerous in the sense that it can lead to misunderstandings, feeling personally attacked/ignored, anger, animosity, deliberate exclusion, hurt feelings, and frustration. I can't speak for anyone about such results, but I imagine this to be the case here. The severity of what happens to such players is entirely dependent on the situation, how sensitive they are, and how much they rely on RP for whatever social/emotional reasons they may have. -
balmung New to RP, looking for small interactions
Edda replied to Aris's topic in Chronicled Connections
I understand the shyness - I'm the exact same way. I'd love to have a chance to RP with you, just message me on here or in game whenever. -
Look at all the little posts just fly away into the aether, never to be seen again... Because if we've anything to learn about past arguments and hostilities, it's that deleting half the conversation will make the problem go away.

I fail to see what your picture and the first half of this paragraph have to do with anything. Is any of that stuff true? I don't know. Does anyone care? Definitely not. I may be a skimmer, but I'm quite confident of the fact that no one in this thread is accusing you of anything malicious. Quite the opposite, if anything. It seems to me you are missing the point of those who are airing their grievances with this kind of event. Most of the pressing problems have already been voiced, and I can't contribute much more in that regard, but I would urge you to at least consider what some people have presented to you. Of course, I would not expect their reasoning to keep you from holding your event. It is yours, and you can run it however you see fit. You seem to already have a good idea on how this event will go down, and while your confidence is inspiring, I can't help but wonder if that will be the case. I have literally no prior experience with RP aside from griefing on Moonguard before coming to Balmung, and I all I can think is that this is ultimately going to accomplish nothing - good or bad. Why not start building a directory of RP FCs on Balmung, even from those outside the RPC, instead? It will be just as, if not more so, accessible, and no one would have to be subjected to sit through two hours of pre-made macros to be a part of it.
-
I think your problem here is you are taking people's legitimate concerns as aggression, or attempts to stir up "drama." It is not unprecedented for people to voice their issues with an event in the thread for the event itself on the RPC. I understand your desire to not have this event taken in the wrong way. I understand that your intentions here are wholly good. However, stiffing legitimate discussion, even if it is not all positive, is no way to conduct an event. The issues people have raised with such an event are very reasonable. However, there seems to be little attempt on yours, or anyone else's parts, to address them, and instead dismissing them as paranoia, drama, or whatever else, is quite disheartening to see.

I can feel it in my bones... I know it's coming... SOON.

Edda has no relationships at all to speak of, so I'll use this post to dedicate this song to some very special people...! You knew it was coming. But you can't run, and you can't hide. And no matter how much you three run, even dance, around each other... It's the power of love that draws you back to each other. The endless push-and-pull of the cosmic energy of the universe... You hurt each other, you heal each other, you %@$& each other... What is this, if not the strongest bond that connects people? This song is dedicated to all those that feel some of that turbulence, some of that pain, some of that pleasure... But most of all, this song goes out to Ul'dahs Sexiest OT3... ...You know who you are. Hit it, George Michael! izGwDsrQ1eQ
