Thank you for doing that, it's a wonderful idea!

I'm sorry it didn't work out, I appreciate your efforts though.

Unfortunate but understandable. I'm grateful that I came across this website and I appreciate the work that went into it. The community here was always welcoming, respectful and helpful. I hope the friendships formed here continue and that the spirit of this community lives on through other platforms as well as FFXIV itself. Take care everyone, my thanks and best wishes to you all.

That's great to hear! I hope you continue to have rich and inspiring RP interactions in FFXIV and beyond. It's a wonderful thing to create such an experience with others and see things come together like that. ^.^ And having overcome the anxiety you felt before you now know with certainty you can do it again.

Hello, Maeroj, welcome to the website! Feelings of uncertainty, anxiety and doubt are understandable and quite normal when starting out. In fact, your experience is even shared by some who have been RPing for a long time. Are you able to RP more with the people you know irl? That can go a long way to helping iron out any anxiety as you learn more about RPing and exploring the various ways to approach RP events. There's nothing wrong with RPing a character who's unkind, but doing so can be very difficult since the natural response from another character is to simply interact with a more pleasant character. May I suggest developing a separate character with a friendlier disposition? A more inviting character should make it easier to establish lasting interactions and connections with other characters. When your confidence is built up, and you're comfortable with the flow of RP in general, you could revisit your present character. Something else to consider are your character's traits, strengths and goals. Having a solid understanding of who your character is and what they hope to achieve can help quite a lot when conversations come up. This could also help colour the reason for your character attending a given event. It's sort of like a drama class exercise. What is my character's motivation, what is my character's disposition and how do those influence their present circumstance? Here's an example. Let's say I'm RPing a lumberjack who's been inspired by the heroics of others to do his part in defending the realm. We'll call him Fred. Now, Fred can't just join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and defend the world immediately, so we have a dream for him to work towards. What can help him get there? Being a local guard would help him earn some experience. So his short term goal is to join the Yellow Jackets. So right away we have a character who is decently strong, good with an axe, is very accomplished in a gathering profession and wants to gain experience in guard duties. When at an RP event these can serve as talking points, especially when interacting with a character who has a related background or goals. Working for the Yellow Jackets isn't his dream job but a means to realizing that dream. So if Fred strikes up a conversation with a character who works for a security Free Company he could apply for that instead of the Yellow Jackets. This would also open the door for plenty of RP opportunities in the future. Let's say that during a certain RP event Fred only meets up with characters who are interested in making fancy designer shoes, he could still ask people what they think about the Yellow Jackets. Does the average citizen have concerns about corruption among the Yellow Jackets? Or poor leadership? Does it take too long for them to show up at the scene of a crime? Fred could gather such feedback and either choose to get his guard duty experience elsewhere or vow to help improve the Yellow Jackets. By having a few ideas in mind for your character you can better aim their comments and thoughts when RPing. Speaking of thoughts, you can type out what your character is thinking without them saying it. This is useful when RPing a character who isn't very forthcoming or has something to hide. It allows us to share the story of our characters without the character giving themselves away. A Garlean spy, for example, will have thoughts about their mission, but won't actually admit to any of it. I apologize for the length of my reply but you posed some fair and universal concerns that many of us have had at some point. I know what it's like to feel discouraged or to get writer's block. I hope you find renewed inspiration for your character and RPing in general.

I think wowspremium is expressing the idea that spreading oneself thin over too many video games can take the joy out of it. I've heard similar statements from others who prefer to focus on one game at a time until they've completed it, especially story driven games. Some streamers take a similar approach where they specialize in one video game and even adopt its design elements into their stream branding when allowed. I must confess, I'm a 'jack of all trades, master of none' gamer with several games on the go at any given time. ^ ^; I thoroughly enjoy the games I play though and FFXIV is designed with flexibility in mind. FFXIV even promotes other video games with cross over events. That being said, I think I understand where wowspremium is coming from, and others who take a more focused approach to their gaming. And if it makes them happier, then so much the better.

I believe so. Also, I apologize for not being clearer with my reply. My suggestion was intended to help in the event that you wish to create additional RP characters.

Welcome back to FFXIV, VagabondExplorer! Balmung and Mateus are sometimes open for new character creation during slower activity in the day. So from about 4am EST onwards you could check the Server Status page to see if those servers are accepting new characters. Another option is after server maintenance, such as today. When the servers come back up the game population will be low, so it's possible new character creation will be available on Balmung and Mateus.

Welcome to the RPC, Happy-Sqweb, I'm glad you could join us. I'm sorry that things went so bad with your former friends. If at all possible I hope your friendships will be reconciled someday. In the meantime I wish you all the best as you explore the world of RPing, make new friends and create new memories. You have the right idea, take your time as you play through the Main Story Quest. And by all means take advantage of the supplementary lore content in the side quests. The game is bursting with world building information in every job, profession, item and ingredient. I hope you have a wonderful time as you develop your character and engage with the community.

Vikohla = Adventurer fangirl and dorky mechanic who attempts to compensate her lack of aether manipulation with scientific concoctions and gizmos. Phane = Bombastic, eclectic supporting character from a Bollywood musical who literally weaponizes showbiz illusionism in her ceaseless bid for adoration and her insatiable appetite for mischief. Joribri = Basically a cliché super ninja like the old Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden games, with the Garlean Empire providing the mech fights, big city street battles and firearms that are somehow outclassed by swords.

https://phalloria.carrd.co Known by many names Madame Pholnaset is a trickster, street performer, shady merchant and con artist. Her masterful use of illusion magic, slight-of-hand and glamours help keep this roguish mage one step ahead of those who suspect her of foul play. Tight-lipped about her origins, abilities and loyalties her presence has become something of an enduring mystery as some swear they've seen her or even met her before in areas she vehemently denies treading. Is this ruby-tongued vagrant a threat or just a simple hustler trying to get by? It's possible that even she doesn't know for certain.

My character Phane developed a custom style of mage combat focused on weaponized illusionism. She even went so far as to title herself a Purple Mage. Being all mysterious is jolly good fun for her, but could be worrisome for other RPers. So I decided to document the job with a reference sheet of sorts, complete with the many flaws and limitations of the job. -

This is intended to be an action shot of a Purple Mage in combat. -

Phane, also known as Madame Pholnaset, tends to pop up in various places selling teas with beneficial effects and offering black market Leves to aspiring adventurers. She's the founder, proprietor and sole representative of Tea Leves: Herbs & Heroics. Her herbal and alchemy products usually cause little controversy, however, her work as a self-proclaimed "independent Leve broker" isn't appreciated by actual Levemetes. -
Ky Yevon has the right of it. As I type this the Mateus server is available for character creation.

Hiya Saahs, it's nice to meet you as well! Welcome to the website!

Welcome aboard, La Pluma! I hope you find what you're looking for as you explore RPing in FFXIV.

From the album: Guises of a Kitsch Con Artist
This duplicitous aetherologist has studied many professions in order to accurately imitate them when acting on stage or getting into mischief. In truth she's only truly excelled in botany, chemistry, sowing and performance combat such as Bard and Dancer. She appears to actually be giving the job of Sage a serious try, though it's hard to imagine one so inherently selfish progressing very far in such a selfless role. And the fact that she plans to have hers shaped like maracas does nothing to inspire confidence. -
Hello and welcome, BunBunniecakes! I can relate to feeling shy when joining a new community. In fact, it's still something I struggle with. ^ ^ I hope you meet plenty of friendly RPers and become more comfortable with each RP interaction.

Welcome to the website, Blze! I think it's cool when RPers bring in their characters from other games to see how they evolve and react in a different setting. I hope you have a delightful experience RPing in FFXIV and that your charming bard finds a place in the world of Hydaelyn.

Welcome aboard Koroshiya! Your Viera character looks really good ^.^

Welcome aboard, Seja! Your character sounds wonderful! I hope you find a place for her unfolding story in the FFXIV community. o/
